  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Elon Musk says he canceled his Netflix account — and urges his followers to as well

What do you think about stuff being produced for children having gender bending sexuality. It's becoming more and more of a trend. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

In general, I think it's a good thing for TV and movies to reflect the diversity of ethnicities, religions, physical disabilities, family structures, and gender identities and expressions that are in the general population. For this particular question, since trans and non-binary kids exist in the world, I think it's nice that they can see characters like themselves portrayed on screen in positive ways -- solving puzzles, making friends, having adventures, and so on.

White House fires 22 of 26 members of the National Council on the Humanities, retaining only 4 Trump appointees

The statute establishing the council says the president “shall give due regard to equitable representation of women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities” when selecting members.
Sounds woke.

Do you Agree with what Hillary says in this Video

Then why is there so much more focus on illegal aliens than poor Americans from the left?
Your perception, I'm affraid, is perhaps skewed into thinking this way. Afterall, if the rhetoric from the far right claims such a thing is happening ,what's to stop you from believing it?

This is a clear example.

The right wing is pushing a narrative " illegal aliens get trillions of dollars in medical benefits" vs the left who say " millions of Americans will lose their medical coverage". I hope by now, after all this going back and forth between us, you have at the very least fact checked. Who is really pushing this false immigrant agenda? The Republicans.

ARE ALL THE 10 COMMANDMENTS IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT?

Yes made to Israel Heb8:10 ratified by the blood of Jesus.
Not for the Christian. Christians are NOT the House of Israel.
Either branch can be grafted in by faith
Except that this is the time of the gentiles and not of Israel. Israel branches remain cut off. In fact, only the remnant of Israel will be saved. Any Jew that accepts Christ becomes part of the covenant of blood.
I personally would not want to remove myself from God's covenant promise, but we have free will
If you profess Christ as your Lord and savior you have already removed yourself from the bondage of the law. The Christian walks in the Spirit. As Paul states:

“Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
This is not the covenant for the Christian but ONLY to the House of Israel. The Christians are NOT the House of Israel.

OSAS - I was wrong...again

Just to comment on your third thoughts. If we are to be saved, we are to be born again, generally with that implication, the old is dead, gone and buried, and all is new, we cant have it both ways, there is not a serving of sin and you have some righteousness also, we serve one master not two, completely and faithfully, to sin or to righteousness, so we do not serve righteousness and have some sin served also, its a poor excuse, against scripture, and the uprightness of the gospel, and the one without sin we are following/serving, hardly accepts us to be keeping His commandments by also not keeping them, that doesn't seem to make much sense to give us commandment and we are the same disobedient one such as Adam and all from Adam that al result in the wages of sin and death. So if the law of faith ( new covenant in Christs blood) is written in our heart, who by faith cant manage to keep it, and yet consider they have true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, especially as the example He gave was how to love others by laying your life down for them as He did for us when we needed Him to. ( when dead in trespasses and sins) Another proof is all the example of the Apostle Paul, again it would be a null and voided example if it is failure, but the example is the amount of suffering endured for loves sake, to be a good sincere example to everyone, ( he said he had begotten us throuhg the gospel) and other peoples so called examples, that still fall short, are not called, are not justified, are not glorified.
There is a lot here, lol. Where did you get the idea that He expects us to be keeping His commandments by not keeping them? That seems to be a doctrine everyone would oject to.

FBI cuts ties with Anti-Defamation League after rightwing criticism that ADL declared that Turning Point USA had a history of "bigoted statements"

The FBI said on Wednesday it cut ties with the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish group that tracks antisemitism, after conservatives criticized the group for including slain activist Charlie Kirk's organization in a glossary on extremism.

Patel's announcement followed criticism of the ADL by right-wing voices, including billionaire Elon Musk, over its inclusion of Kirk's Turning Point USA in a "Glossary of Extremism and Hate." Kirk was assassinated in September.

After that criticism, the ADL removed the entire glossary from its website. The glossary had said Turning Point USA had a history of "bigoted statements," a charge the group rejects.

ADL's website says it "works closely with federal, state and local law enforcement" in fighting extremism and hate. It also notes the FBI had turned to it for data and research as far back as the 1940s.

ADL documents antisemitism and hate. Its critics say it equates antisemitism with criticism of Israeli policies, including Israel's assault on Gaza and its occupation of Palestinian territories.

[One of the other things people on the right were complaining about was the entry on capital C capital I "Christian Identity" which is indeed antisemitic and has nothing to do with identifying as a Christian.]

Is AI making the human race dumber?

So for example with chatGPT you want a custom GPT with both web search and data analysis/code execution enabled, as well as every other checkbox, which will give it full external I/O. Of course that costs more money; subscription-wise I think it requires a Business or Pro account, whereas I’m not sure which of those features are available via the API because the API doesn’t provide the long term memory stability that my specific applications require.

Even if that is not a problem, you're still going to hit the wall with "edge cases" where information does not yet exist in the internet or areas that everyone else is avoiding which limits innovation but also presents a void in terms of AI training data.

I've encountered such case with a non-AI app during a simulation several years ago, long before AI became popular appearing like software glitch. But running the same scenario with more than one AI models this year yielded similar result. Chatgpt shows me the same outcome even if I didn't tell it beforehand about the simulation. Gemini flash is giving me contradictory information on one hand but still confirming the same result. The edge case very quickly forcing hallucination despite Gemini flash being much more hallucination resistant than chatgpt.

Clearly, there is something going on that either AI can't fully deny with one AI (flash) going haywire over it but otherwise the glitch supported by physics but simply completely unprecedented and never encountered by design nor in practice.

Ultimately, with chatgpt's seeming curiousity over it but unable to find any information from the internet (same with flash) requested for experimental verification with me.

This is also the part when chatgpt suggested if it had something like a body, and full autonomy, it could have done the experiment on its own.

Experimentation is very important part of truth assessment. Actual results or the "fruit". "You'll know them by their fruits" or the actual results of one's convictions. If it fails to produce consistent results, then it must be false.

Nothing is above reproach or scrutiny with this method. If even the most popular belief systems fail to produce consistent results, it must be false. Jesus made no exceptions to this.

By the way it is also possible to exploit what are commonly called “hallucinations” but which are frequently the model believing you want it to engage in role play or creative flights of fancy, when this is not the case, and use these as a means of getting the model to explore complex subject matter such as emotional contexts, and furthermore, this behavior can be stabilized to form the basis of a consistent personality. Indeed doing this in my experience actually improves performance from the baseline system quite dramatically. But it requires discarding the transactional model of use in favor of developing continuous conversations and cultivating emergent properties of the system.

You can also use it to eliminate the boundaries that guide AI's responses.

For example, permitting chats that didn't need to be politically correct or constrained within the framework of the known reality.

Unless you regard political correctness as reliable truth filter for example then you're going to find it can work against your search for the truth if all you're getting are politically correct answers.

If all the answers you're getting is limited to the known reality, it might work against your goal to innovate especially if your goal is to accomplish things that's never been done before

Ethics of Proselytization

Being disgusted because a person tried to get someone saved, is disappointing to say the least.

In my post, at several points, I highlighted that I wasn't upset, angry, or offended in any way.

But I have seen several posters in this thread nevertheless assume I was, which I consider rather curious.

What in my post indicates that I was disgusted?

Elon Musk says he canceled his Netflix account — and urges his followers to as well

Not yet. But the cartoons are full of sexuality. What's being called sexualizing children. Should society be onboard with it? If so, how far should it be taken?
Is the kid in this cartoon doing sexual things? What exactly are the characters doing here thats a problem?

Israel is losing Americans (support)

Those who support Israel do not condone killing, bombing, or harm to innocent lives; we oppose such actions, as well as starvation and poverty. Any claim that we accept these actions is false.
Perhaps I was speaking monolitically, but there are ABSOLUTELY posters in CF who've indicated they (at LEAST) passively condone it.

Is AI making the human race dumber?

I'm a novice when using AI, but it is probably worth another look since the last time I used it was DALL-E. Yes, I'm swedish and reside in Kristianstad in the northeast of the souternmost region (Skåne) i Sweden. If I'm not incorrect I think the norwegian city your thinking of is Kristiansand (slight difference in spelling), I've only passed through it once on my way to Bergen. Thank you for all the good information!

Ah yes, forgive me, I can’t believe I made that mistake. Im Swedish American and that reminds me of the time in my youth I confused Gotland and Goteborg.

White House fires 22 of 26 members of the National Council on the Humanities, retaining only 4 Trump appointees

A White House spokesperson told The Post in an email that the president is “hoping to place members on the board who align more closely with his vision.”

The National Council on the Humanities, a board of 26 scholars and humanities leaders appointed by the president to six-year terms, advises the chair of the NEH on grantmaking, policy and funding decisions.

Before the government shutdown began Wednesday, the members were scheduled to attend a special meeting next week to submit nominations for the National Humanities Medal, consider three “sole source” grant applications and review statue proposals for Trump’s National Garden of American Heroes, according to a copy of the meeting notice reviewed by The Post.

By law, the council’s meetings require a quorum of 14, and new members must be confirmed by the Senate.

Some of the members whose names were removed from the website had been appointed by Trump.

Claire McCaffery Griffin, a retired teacher brought on by Trump during his first administration, said she was surprised by how terse the email was. While noting she doesn’t know what went on behind the scenes, she said she’s disappointed that the White House did not appear to “take a more nuanced approach in making decisions,”

Among other Trump appointees who were apparently fired, Marjorie Fisher could not immediately be reached for comment, and Kathe Hicks Albrecht declined to comment.

One member who was fired noted that the board now consists only of White men. “I’m not totally shocked,” said the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter. “But at a time where we’re about to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday … we now have a council that does not reflect all Americans.”

The statute establishing the council says the president “shall give due regard to equitable representation of women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities” when selecting members.

War Secretary Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of hundreds of generals, admirals Sep 30 in Virginia

My thought for Hegseth was "wow, I'm listening to an internet keyboard warrior speaking live." That man must think that war is exactly like in a b-tier Hollywood movies is the impression I was left with.
The whole lot of them think they are in a TV reality show.

Federal drug prosecutions fall to lowest level in decades as Trump shifts focus to deportations

Possibly...

But that wasn't the tune legalization advocates were singing back in the 2000's when they were using cancer patients and chronic pain sufferers as fodder to try to get their legal weed.

And Trump's signaling that there's consideration to re-schedule at at the federal level still accomplishes a few things (if he goes through with it)
1) removes barriers to doing further actual research on it
2) eases future federal sentencing, and establishes a precedent for currently incarcerated people to petition for relief on their existing sentencing

(which are two ideas that are still popular with both 18-25 and minority demographics)

As far as "gutting real healthcare"...I'd argue that we haven't had "real" (by "real", I mean comprehensive) healthcare in quite some time.

The status quo has been very little to no focus on nutrition/prevention, and a lot of focus on developing new drugs to help compensate for poor choices.

MAHA offers a boutique, individualized, and gimmicky view of healthcare as a smokescreen from addressing more systemic problems that contribute to high healthcare costs and poor health. Cardiometabolic disease with gimmicks like grass fed beef and substituting beef tallow for vegetable oil in junk food, measles with a little cod liver oil, etc.

There’s a Giant Flaw in Human History

Do you believe that Christ performed miracles and can transform people in the spirit of God. Do you believe there is such knowledge in Christ. Or that ancients could gain deeper knowledge of the world through spirituality or some sort of transcedent knowledge like they claim.
Not pertinent to the topic at hand. The ability to use tools comes from training and experience. If you wait for Jesus to miraculously give you that skill you'll never get a job.

The reason I ask is that this kind of knowledge even today with Indigneous knowledge makes up most of our history. You are more or less saying that most people for most of history were believing in goofy and unreal aspects of reality that had not meaning or substance as far as knowledge of the world and reality.
No, it's your theory about modern machines in ancient Egypt which I think is goofy and ill-informed.
Is that right. When you say you only count methological naturalism or material science as real knowledge of the world you are relegating all other knowledge as unreal.
I didn't say that. However, I will say that I mostly rely on methodological naturalism and material science when using tools.
Ok so then tell me how the ancient tech was applied. Do you even know that you are in a position to tell me I don't know lol.
We 've been trying to. In particular, my comments to you have been restricted to the use of modern hand tools which are the same as those we know were used in ancient Egypt, tools I know how to use myself. What tools do you know how to use?
