  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Village changed by the Word. Pastor under pressure. Blasphemy law used to arrest Christians.

Entire Village Changed by God's Word

[13] prayers in [2] nations have been posted for Musa.
Musa (the man in the middle) studies the Bible with Saad and a local pastor.
As Musa was serving as an imam in his village in East Africa, he kept hearing about his son, Saad, preaching the gospel throughout the village. Saad's bold witness angered other local Muslim leaders, who warned Musa to stop Saad from evangelizing. Though Musa didn't find any fault with his son's evangelistic activities, he decided to confront Saad about them. But when Musa went to Saad, something surprising happened. Saad was studying the Bible with his pastor, and Musa watched and listened as Saad and the pastor discussed different verses. "He was so impressed at what he was hearing," a front-line worker said. Freed Pastor Still Under Pressure

[6] prayers in [1] nation have been posted for Pastor John.
Pastor John Cao was released from prison in March 2024 but continues to face persecution.
Pastor John Cao served as a missionary in Myanmar's Wa State, transforming lives by building schools and working to fight poverty and drug addiction. On March 5, 2017, Chinese authorities intercepted Cao, resulting in a seven-year prison sentence. He was released on March 4, 2024. Cao continues to face restrictions on his freedom and movement by Chinese authorities, including video monitoring, forced "re-education," and refusal to issue him an ID card, which prevents him from medical care, even when he suffered a life-threatening bout of coronavirus. Oppressive Blasphemy Law Used to Arrest More Christians

[6] prayers in [1] nation have been posted for Pakastani Christians.
Pakastani Christians stand amid the rubble of a church destroyed by a mob of Muslims.
Pakistan's blasphemy laws continue to be a tool for persecution of our Pakistan Christian family members. "Every week we have at least one case of Christians being wrongly accused," a front-line worker said. Two 18-year-old boys, Tabish and Kalu, were accused of cutting up parts of the Quran and using the fragments as confetti during a festival in August. The boys are now in hiding. A pastor's son was also accused of participating and was arrested, but police released him after realizing he wasn't at the event. Two Christian sisters, Sonia and Samia, were also charged with blasphemy in August for allegedly throwing parts of the Quran into the trash. Read More.

Donald Trump picks Susie Wiles to be chief of staff

Well it seems like she has experience dealing with difficult, opinionated, egotistical people.
I imagine trying to organize a very elderly man will be a challenge.
I wish her well.
She is not working for Biden...

Isaiah 54:1-55:5 and 1 Peter 3:18-22

ISAIAH 54:1-55:5

The Children of Yisrael are compared to the “sands of the sea” the “dust of the earth” and the “Stars of heaven” The prophet Yeshayahu in these verses is comforting Israel that they will be blessed, with descendants, even though at the time they might be going through some rough times, always, when people go away from the LORD and follow other gods, then judgment will follow, and suffering will follow, however, YHVH will never reject his people…and…He will increase their numbers.

Despite HaSatan trying to wipe the Jewish people from existence through the Holocaust, pogroms, etc. The people will continue to exist. Why is Israel compared to the “sands of the sea?” because who can count every grain of sand? Why is Israel compared to the “dust of the earth?” One walks on the dust and Israel has been trampled on, like dust, but dust is enduring. Leave a car outside in the desert, in the dust, for perhaps one hundred years. In the end, the car will no longer exist, it will have been wasted away, yet the dust will continue to exist, forever.

Why “the stars of heaven?” because Israel will “shine” like the stars, because, the Mashiach came from Israel, and He shines, as everlasting light. Israel will be a light to the nations and will teach the nations of ONE GOD “Echad”

MATTHEW 3:1-4:25; 1 PETER 3:18-22

Yochanan the Baptizer is in Jordan, baptizing the people, getting them ready to meet their Messiah, his cousin, his LORD. We need to get our hearts and minds right. A need to change is necessary to leave the lost world behind and embrace the things of the LORD.

Yeshua is baptized, goes into the wilderness, fasts for 40 days, getting ready for his ministry and teaching, healing, and finally, dying for our sins. 40 is the number for testing and judgment. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of Adonai”. Yes, physical food is necessary, and it feeds the physical body, yet the WORD of God feeds our spirit man/woman. There needs to be a balance between the two. Adonai gave us good, healthy, kosher food, and HIS WORD, which is the living manna.

Yeshua visited Capernaum. I have been there, and the synagogue that Yeshua visited is still there. Although it was torn down and rebuilt a few times, the floor is the same. It was an honor to physically “walk” where Yeshua walked and taught Torah. The remains of Peter’s house are also there. Let’s walk the way Yeshua walked, let’s keep on preparing our hearts, minds, and our lives. The Kingdom of Heaven IS here, it IS at hand. The “Kingdom of God” is HIS activity here on earth.

1 PETER 3:18-22;

Peter writes about Messiah, giving up his life for us all, to bring us to Elohim. But since Messiah Yeshua is part of Elohim, did “Elohim die for Elohim?” In a way, we can say yes. He left His glory on high to come to earth and live as a man, to die as a man, to suffer as a man, a man who is still G-d. Yeshua called upon his “Father” who is Elohim, and Yeshua is known as “The Son” “Yeshua Ben Elohim” who was also known as “Yeshua Ben Yosef” as he was raised and known legally as “The Son of Yosef” yet He was and IS, still very God.

Kefa the Talmid continues to state that Yeshua descended into the heart of the earth, and he preached to the “spirits” in Sheol. But who are these “spirits?” We could include all who perished during the time of the flood, who were disobedient, and thus perished, their bodies being consumed by the floodwaters and probably by sharks. I imagine there were many Megalodons (giant sharks) in the waters of the flood just awaiting “MANwiches!”

It was too late for these souls to be saved, yet Yeshua also preached to the spirits in “Paradise” the region of Sheol where the righteous awaited Mashiach, from righteous Abel to the thief on the cross (and all in between) He came to set “captives free” even though paradise was a pleasant waiting place (I imagine) it could not compare to the New Jerusalem, where they all are now.

“8 were saved through water” Those were Noah, his wife (Na ’amah, daughter of Enoch) his three sons and their wives. They all had a “new beginning” (8) and we also are saved through the “Living Water” who is Yeshua.

When we are saved, we go through water baptism, which identifies us with Yeshua, “death and rebirth” yet as Kefa says, it does not get rid of the filth of the flesh, but of a newness of spirit. Our flesh will always be sinful, and will, at times, be attracted to sin. That is why “flesh” can not inherit heaven. Our bodies of flesh will wear out and cease to function after “x” number of years, yet we will receive new bodies, and our souls and spirit will be with the LORD!

Our flesh is and always will be sinful flesh, yet we will have a “good conscience toward Elohim” Let us be content with a good conscience, and try to bring the flesh under control.

Off topic but I mentioned Hildegard of Bingen in my post #3 above. She was an unusual lady with enormous talent and who kept herself very busy.

Amongst other things she was a music composer. Quoting the summary for the following YouTube link, this is one example of her medieval songs.

St. Stanislav Girls’ Choir of the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium is among the best European choirs led by charismatic conductor Helena Fojkar Zupančič.

Christians urged to look through 'lens of Scripture' to combat antisemitism, defend Jews

Following the recent shooting of a Jewish man walking to his synagogue in Chicago, Illinois, and a surge in antisemitic incidents, a ministry focused on sharing the Gospel with Jewish communities is stepping up to equip Christians with tools to support God’s chosen people.

Chosen People Ministries will host its Summit on Opposing Antisemitism on Friday at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. The event will offer attendees a biblical perspective on antisemitism, drawing from Psalm 83, which calls for God’s judgment on those seeking Israel’s destruction. Attendees will also be able to participate in workshops designed to deepen their understanding of ways to support their Jewish neighbors.

Many attendees already recognize the importance of God’s promise to Israel and are familiar with the Israeli-Palestinianconflict, says Mitch Glaser, president and CEO of Chosen People Ministries. However, Glaser noted that the event is an opportunity to "reaffirm" their understanding of these topics.

Catholics need to live differently, and prepare to pay the cost of our resistance...

As Christians, we can’t avoid political engagement. It’s a duty of our citizenship. More importantly, we have a Gospel obligation to be a leaven for good in society. Politics involves the acquisition and use of power, and power always has a moral dimension. And law always embodies someone’s idea of right and wrong.
Exactly. And as far as this statement relates to Catholicism, I wish the Catholic hierarchy, for all its clear statements condemning abortion in general, would tell politicians specifically that you can't promote abortion via legislation even if you claim to be against it privately. It puts priests in a difficult position because ultimately the priest is responsible if he gives the Eucharist to a politician he knows is in a state of mortal sin.

The go-to Catholic posture in this country, especially over the last 60 years, has been assimilation and cooperation with the surrounding culture. In assimilating, we’ve been digested by the culture we were meant to evangelize. Too often, our distinct Catholic convictions, along with our sense of mission, have been bleached away. The cost of that strategy was most painfully obvious, and resented by many faithful Catholics, when our churches closed during the 2020 COVID hysteria while abortion mills and liquor stores stayed open.

I was thankful for the SSPX chapel that stayed open while the diocesan parishes were closed, but nothing has shaken my faith more than the rush from Catholics and Protestants to shut down their churches indefinitely, replacing church and fellowship with watching a video at home on the couch (I wasn't paying attention to Orthodoxy at that time, but from what I'm told the Orthodox churches in my area stayed open). That singular move was incredibly harmful to a huge number of people's faith, and I know people who to this day haven't rejoined a church in person and choose to watch the services at home.

One thing I admired about the broader Catholic response though was that the bishops remained firm that sacraments can't be administered over the phone or over a video call, despite many people pushing for that to change.

Lyrics

You've got my attention
There's no need to hurt your self this way
You think no one will notice you're feeling
When you cry yourself to sleep

You feel stuck on the outside looking inside
Wishing this life wasn't your life
And you think you're damaged way beyond repair
Well you're not so far that I can't get to where you are

You wish you were someone else
Every night you fall to pieces
Knowing you can't save yourself
I can see you, I can hear you
There's a place where the broken go
There's a room full of second chances
You're not stranded on your own
You're not invisible

I'm ready to listen
There's no need to hold it all inside
The smallest whisper
I hear it when your strength has all but died
I need you to believe me, can you trust me
That what you see, is not what I see
The reflection in the mirror's telling lies
Cause nothing you have done could change how much I love you

You're not invisible
I can see you as you're falling on your knees
You're not invisible to Me

I will not sit silently by as you mock and curse my God
Stand against Him, you will be brought down

Here I come, I'm 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up
Here we come now, we're 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up
Here I come, I'm 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up
Here we come now, we're 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up now

You bark accusations that paralyze my brothers in fear
Only a small spark starts a unquenchable fire

Here I come, I'm 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up
Here we come now, we're 'bout to rise up
With all of my people, we're 'bout to rise up

Are you for us, or for our adversaries? NO

Good OP! I love the answer, "No", there. One might well infer from the fact the man standing before him wouldn't have been there if God did not have a reason for the encounter. The fact that Joshua asked the wrong question is almost humorous, except that we do worse. Joshua's thinking seems, at least, to be for the sake of Israel, and not so much for himself, yet, even then he asked it from the wrong point-of-view. This life is about God, and not about us or anything else in his creation —not even about the things that God loves.

JD Vance Response to Mark Cuban: ‘Insulting to My Wife,’ Melania Trump, Lara Trump and All Women Supporting Trump

If you want to see an interesting visual, check the results by counties. Even in the states won by Harris, most of the counties are red except for a few states in the North East. If someone did a colour map of the USA election results by county, close to 90% would be red.
Nothing unusual about that.

Does John's "last hour" imply old earth?

Since, 2000 years ago, Apostle John wrote "it is the last hour", maybe Earth is, in fact, 4.5 billion years old, which makes 2000 years only an hour on that scale? That would simultaneously address two questions:

a) Question about apparent contradiction between Bible and archeology: it would say it doesn't contradict it since Bible preaches old Earth too
The Bible does not preach "old Earth". The language is very clear that from the instant that God made the first matter, time, energy, He created all the rest in six real, physical days. From there, it is easy to track, and I have, the birth and death records of the first 22 generations bring us from the day of Creation (3904BC) to the year 1709BC (when Reuben was born). (Send me your email by PM and I can email you the Excel spreadsheet into which I put all my research).

The idea that archeology and the Bible are contradictory is absurd. People's misunderstanding of what they find archeologically is to blame for the apparent contradiction. "Answers in Genesis" has some great videos that explain things like the Mt St. Helen's eruption that made a mini-grand canyon in less than a week (indicating that the Grand Canyon was probably also carved in less than a week), the formation of coal beds at the bottom of a lake near Mt St. Helen's in only 20 years, the formation of separate forests of trees stratified by species at the bottom of that same lake similar to the petrified forest, etc.
b) Question about why Jesus didn't come the way John expected Him too: it would answer by saying that 2000 years "is", in fact, an hour on that time scale
Jesus didn't return the way John, and many of the other Apostles also, expected Him to because they misunderstood His meaning. Jesus told them He was coming back, but He didn't tell them when. So they expected Him to return within their generation. This is not new. Many times in Scripture we see people expecting God to do things quickly, but He takes His time. Abraham is a good example in that God made a promise to give him a son from whom many nations of peoples would come. He was about 85 years old when God made that promise, but Isaac was not born until Abraham was 100 years old.
Of course it doesn't answer everything completely: we still have to deal with Old Testament that adds to 6 thousand years. But there we can employ some gap theories.
There are no gaps to theorize over. We can trace the age of the Earth from Creation to Joseph. And then we can link Joseph to the Pharaoh he served under (the famine starting in the year 1668BC). And from there we can count the years to present day.

Christ is the Transcendence of Political Ideology

if He came back tomorrow many of us would persecute Him again just like two thousand years ago.
Who, specifically, is the "us" in that sentence.
Christ offers a way that goes beyond the divisions of Left and Right wing.
I agree.
The path through the narrow gate is to take up your cross and follow Him.
Incorrect. The path through the narrow gate is Christ crucified and resurrected; his work, not our works.
It’s to struggle up the hill. It’s to not love the world (1 John 2:15-17) and pray without ceasing for those in the world and for yourself. It’s a path of repentance, a total change of one’s heart, to be born again into a totally new person by divine grace. One doesn’t have to be a monk to follow this.
All of which is red herring.

Having a scripturally-informed political point of view and living according to that position with integrity is not mutually exclusive of a life in Christ here on earth. Being in the world but not of the world does not preclude political agency.
