  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How did Paul deliver people to Satan?

Paul singled out a man having sex with his father's wife in 1C 5:

4 When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5 you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
  1. Do it with the power of our Lord Jesus.
  2. Deliver him to Satan.
  3. Hopefully, he would learn the lesson and repent.
Another example in 1T 1:

18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Hymenaeus and Alexander were once in the faith, but they failed to hold on to it.

How exactly did Paul go about delivering or handing people over to satan?

Excommunicate them. This would remove them from the fellowship and protection of the church.

How would Satan deal with them in such a way for the destruction of their flesh or so that they may learn not to blaspheme?

They went back into the realm of the world. Satan was the ruler of this world. If they still had some conscience left, the pain and the destructive consequences of sin could serve as a wake-up call, leading them to recognize their need for repentance and reconciliation with God. He might remember the good old days when he had fellowship with God and with the church.

Episcopal Church leader says migrants, trans individuals at 'center of the Gospel story'

Indeed, most parishes are pretty much orthodox, even those with relatively liberal clergy. I object strongly on scriptural and patristic theological grounds to statements made by some of your hierarchs and some of your clergy but I still love the Episcopal Church and pray for its wellbeing.
Amen!

'A clear, national standard': NCAA bans male athletes from competing in women's sports

National Collegiate Athletics Association has unveiled a new policy prohibiting trans-identified male athletes from competing in women's sports amid the Trump administration's crackdown on gender ideology.

NCAA, a major organization that oversees collegiate athletics in the United States, announced in a statement Thursday that it is changing its participation policy for trans-identified student-athletes. The move follows President Donald Trump's new executive order vowing to cut off federal funds to schools that allow males who identify as female to participate on women's sports teams.

The new policy prohibits males from competing in women's sports.

Illinois Gov. Pritzker: No Welcome Mat for pardoned rioters

Pardoned insurrectionists aren't a protected class.
And one cannot be pardoned without having been found "guilty."
I'm glad you finally concur about Fauci, members of the Biden crime family, and the J6 investigators, and the killer of Ashli Babbitt.

Is the Bible to be read literally or figuratively?

Revelation 13:1 And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads.

How do you understand the above?
To understand the text, we must look at the context, grammar used, and literacy. We must also compare with other scripture, as Scripture is interpreted with Scripture.

Book of Revelation is good to compare with Daniel (and Zechariah - the revelation of OT). Both Daniel and John saw political systems and leaders that they described using the term "Beast". John sees this beast coming up "out of the sea." John called it a beast because It comes up out of the sea of "nations". This beast has to do with the powers of this earth opposed to Christendom

Now compare with Daniel. In Daniel Chapter 7, the prophet records a dream that he had in which he saw the rise and fall of four gentile world empires.. Each was characterized as a beast coming from the sea of nations.

The 'heads' show dominion. 'Horns' show power, like you have the little horn in the book of Daniel chapter 7

'ten' compare that with 'ten kings who will arise from that kingdom' from Daniel 7:24. So we know then that this has something to do with world government and rulers of that.

I believe this "ten" here is the ten common market nations which were formed from the old Roman empire.
The old Roman empire has been reestablished in the ten common market nations. The sad thing is, that it appears, the power that this group has is from the evil one. It is not difficult to understand where their power comes from.

"Upon his heads the name of blasphemy". This beast has the ten horns of power.

This is the personification of what Satan does with this world power.

The personification of evil when it takes over governments and people who are heads of these governments.

The Orthodox View on Fasting

By the way, I just posted a liturgical question related very loosely related to this in The Ancient Way forum, which I thought I’d link to here in the event any Eastern Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic members who are familiar with the Triodion and the Pentecostarion might see it: Is Flowery Triodion a misnomer for the Pentecostarion?

For those curious, in Lent we use a hymnal called the Triodion because at Matins, during weekdays, a hymn we sing at Matins and other services throughout the year called the Canon, which can have as many as nine Odes, usually only consists of three (although one of them, Ode 2, only really appears in Lent, at Matins on Monday and in other penitential canons such as the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete (which is not used at Matins but is typically sung as a supplemental service, often in the fifth week of Lent). The Pentecostarion, the hymnal which replaces the Triodion starting just before Midnight on Pascha (the Feast of the Resurrection, also known as Easter Sunday) is known in the Slavic languages by the lovely name “Flowery Triodion” but it just occurred to me, I can’t think of any Canons in it with only three odes! However I could well be missing something, as it is vast; my physical copy by St. John of Kronstadt Press is a gorgeous folio-sized volume which is one of the most beautiful books in my liturgical library (the Liturgikon from New Skete Monastery is also really beautiful, as is the ROCOR sluzbenik (liturgikon) containing the most accurate text of the Byzantine* version of the rarely celebrated Divine Liturgy of St. James and the very rarely celebrated Presanctified Liturgy of St. James (which differs from the Presanctified Liturgy of St. Gregory the Dialogist, known to Catholics as Pope St. Gregory the Great, in that it is not a vesperal liturgy).

* The Syriac Orthodox also use the Divine Liturgy of St. James, which has a privileged position in the Syriac Orthodox liturgy, being required by the rubrics for many occasions, and which is also the longest of their liturgies although unfortunately lately there has been a trend in many places of using just one of their 86 liturgies, that of Mar Dionysius Bar Salibi, on all occasions, because it is the shortest. The only thing the Maronite Catholics have done right since Vatican II is to keep six of their traditional liturgies alive by cycling through them seasonally, but the obliteration of so much of the beautiful flowery prose typical of the West Syriac liturgies (much of which predates their schism with the Syriac Orthodox) and the loss of interesting liturgies like that of Peter (Sharar) and worse yet, the almost universal replacement of the traditional a capella hymnody with bombastic pop orchestrations, causes me to regard the Maronite liturgy as the one that is presently in the worst condition of any Eastern liturgical rite.

Help I need someone to save me from the devil with prayer!

God gives gifts without repentance. Some use their gifts for God and others for the devil. Some switch it around both ways. I started out demonic and switched to Jesus. So first you need to confess all the things you did wrong in the misuse of your gift. if you have not already done so. If you think you need it you can try some self deliverance or maybe find someone that is experienced in this area. Here is a prayer/confession that I skimmed over that should be helpful. Praying for Deliverance and Protection God bless and of course never give up. I pray you have some boldness and wisdom in God and stay away and are delivered from all things that take you away from God.

Is Flowery Triodion a misnomer for the Pentecostarion?

I can’t think of any days in the Pentecostarion off the top of my head when there are only three canons, whereas this is de rigeur in the Lenten Triodion, so I am curious, was the Slavonic name “Flowery Triodion” not intended to be literal, in contrast to the Lenten Triodion? Or am I overlooking something? Even in Bright Week where the Paschal Hours (1st, 3rd, 6th, 9th) are in highly abbreviated form, the Matins seem to have many odes.

Also I seem to recall reading somewhere of two-ode canons in the Octoechos, but have never seen any; has anyone ever heard of a canon with fewer than three odes?

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, age-lasting life...

Peace in Christ.

We are to come out from among the man-based churches and have nothing to do with them so that His glory light will shine forth from us to the people in the outside darkness who will then see the light and come to us.

They…the man-based churches…will not believe in what they will hear and will persecute us with a “fiery trail” of those who will hear and believe.

This is the “holy” ( to be separate for our sanctification) commandment that is delivered for us to do. We must come out from among them and be separate and not be attached to them (the unclean) so that He will receive us. What communion does light have with darkness?

2Co 6:14-18 KJV
(14) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
(15) And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
(16) And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

(18) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Do not then think it “strange” concerning their fiery trial (by those we leave behind in the man-based churches) that will come to try us. Do not think it a "strange thing" that is happening to you for everyone who will leave them behind shall suffer their persecutions.

1Pe 4:12-14 KJV
(12) Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

We are then made partakers of Christ’s sufferings when we do not return evil for their evil speaking of us for leaving them.

We are to rejoice instead so that when His GLORY shall be revealed upon us, then we shall be glad with exceeding joy.

(13) But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

(14) If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

When Christ shall appear (shine in our mortal bodies), then we shall also appear (shine) with Him in glory towards the people of the outside world who are sitting in darkness.

Col 3:4 KJV
(4) When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

When we leave our church families behind for His sake and the gospel's, we shall receive persecution from them...but we will receive again all of those things we left behind....and shall receive an AGE-LASTING life NOW in this current age.

Mar 10:29-30
(29) And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

"in the world to come eternal life" = in the age the coming age-lasting life. In other words, we are to expect to lay hold of an age-lasting life NOW in this age.

(30) But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life .

By our patient continuance in well doing (in the face of persecutions), we seek for glory and honor and immortality....an age-lasting life NOW in this mortal body.

Rom 2:7 KJV
(7) To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Do not lose heart when they will persecute you for leaving their churches. After you have done the will of God, you will receive the promise: an age-lasting life, glory and honor. This is a NOW thing. Christ shall appear in your mortal body. His glory will shine in you. For yet a little while, He that is coming (in our flesh) shall arrive and will not delay. The glory of God and the light of Christ shall appear upon you...and you will joy exceedingly when it appears.

Heb 10:35-37 KJV
(35) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
(36) For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

(37) For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Amazon ends 4-year ban on Ryan Anderson's book criticizing transgender ideology

I have been sensing a change in the air with organisations winding back some of the woke restrictions that have been imposed in recent years. Is there some cultural change coming.

People seem more willing to speak the truth or speak how they naturally do rather than monitoring their language. Some are coming out relieved saying they have been under restrictions to follow woke ideology.

I think this is the beginning of a cultural change, a reset. Even a paradigm shift. Very interesting times now in the world at the moment and we could also see a change in world politics. This has been coming for a while.

Not just in the US but throughout all Left leaning governments as the chaos of their ideology is being felt. People are rejecting it and all these big businesses are jumping off the Woke train as they also see the tide is turning.

Elizabeth Warren Received Donations From Big Pharma

That's for a judge to decide. But then again, it makes you wonder why Trump hired a corrupt lawyer.
It is the job of an attorney to lie and cover the crimes committed by your employer, even under oath. That's Mob Law 101.

To be fair, all Trump's crimes were committed when he was still a Democrat.

[For Jan 6] He was sentenced to 37 months in prison and three years of supervised release in connection to the Capitol Breach last month.

[He earned his nickname for throwing lumber at police on Jan 6]

Fallacies and the Ethical Application of "fault"

I'm a huge consumer of music. And, like you, I could spend (and have spent) hours in that mode.
Yes and a good place is on this forum in the music threads. Both Christain and secular music. I often go there when I need a music fix.
Sometimes, I wish I had continued my attempt to take up guitar. But alas the world of Philosophy and Theology calls me more, so I content myself with listening to what others produce. That's my therapy, too.
Me too, I have heard the new Bob Dylan movie is good.
