  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump’s FBI Moves to Criminally Charge Major Climate Groups

Thank neo-liberalism. Governments have gradually withdrawn from providing social services and encouraged private agencies to take up the gap. If they'd stuck with keeping these in house, they'd have more control over the funds. Mind you, they'd also have to be more accountable to voters for how they're used, which governments don't like.
...but to hedge that a bit, it's also fair to point out that government is one of those entities where "they don't know what they don't know", and the reason they outsourced some of that stuff to the private sector is because specialized focus that you find the private sector often exceeds the capabilities of government, which is focused on a bunch of different things at once.

For instance, a professional roofing company that does roofs all day, every day, and nothing but roofs, it going to know more about roofing (the best way to do things, the "gotchas", etc...) than a congressional housing subcommittee who operates at the 10,000ft view and has 20 other things on their plate to review.

I think neoliberalism is okay if used properly and not used for "advancing one's own personal agenda".

Government is one entity, and no one entity is going to be the best at everything...the old saying about "jack of all trades, king of none"

But what we see currently isn't even remotely an attempt to find the best stewards of money in term of accomplishing meaningful tasks.

When the Department of NIH is handing over millions of dollars to, what equates to, an LGBTQ social club because they just so happen to keep a bowl of condoms at the front desk people can grab, and have 5 or 6 dusty old pamphlets about the risks of unprotected sex on the counter...that's really a bastardization of the concept of public-private partnerships that were envisioned. That's just some government employees with an ideological leaning handing out money to go to their ally groups.

If god were not sovereign

So there was a video on YouTube that I saw recently that raised a really good theological point that I wanted to share with the Christian forums. It was entitled 10 ways Christians make their lives miserable without even realizing it and one of the reasons on the list was when we deny God's Sovereignty. I mean, think about it.

if our God is not Sovereign than we have no guarantee of our salvation because Jesus's death wouldn't of had infinite value. I mean think about it. If God is not sovereign than Jesus basically died for nothing but because God is sovereign we know that our salvation is guaranteed because an all sovereign God bought that salvation for us. Also if God were not sovereign there would be no guarantee of the promise of eternal life. God couldn't deliver on that promise because something somewhere, would and could fall again. But because God is sovereign if God declares there will never he another fall than there never again will be one. No fall = guarantee of an eternal salvation.

If our God is not sovereign we would live in constant fear of the unknown. Unknown if we would lose our jobs, our health, our lives, our spouses, our children, ...etc. But because we know that God is completely sovereign we know that when these things happen we know that they are part of a bigger picture in the story of God's will. Death and tragedy happens in this world for a reason and it all happens under God's mighty hand nothing happens outside of God's sovereign control. This brings peace to the followers of God. As Ji Packer would say it frightens the Godless but stabilizes the saints.

If our God were not sovereign there would be no way for the world to exist as it does. There's no way that atoms could function perfectly, cells perfectly, bacteria, DNA, grass, Nature ...etc without God being in complete control. If God isn't sovereign the world would be in chaos.

So yeah if your god isn't sovereign than it would cause you to be miserable because you'd never be sure of our salvation, you'd never be sure that ultimately all things would work out for good, you'd never be sure that the world wouldn't implode in on itself... I mean praise God that he is completely sovereign over all things!
I don't know anyone who believes God isn't sovereign, if they believe in God at all.

RFK wants to ban Riboflavin, and other "chemicals" he can't pronounce, from foods

One man's meat is another man's poison.
Strange but timely word association with a government official white paper published around 1948 . It has "disappeared" from all the internet resources (it was available until about 15 years ago).

High court judge caught falsely charging Christians with blasphemy in entrapment ring resigns

LAHORE, Pakistan — A high court judge in Pakistan resigned last week after a media report exposed his alleged close ties with a criminal gang falsely charging Christians and others with blasphemy, sources said.

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on March 6 sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari citing “personal reasons” for stepping down and requesting its immediate acceptance. He was appointed as an LHC judge in November 2016.

Several lawyers, including Christian attorneys involved in defending persons accused of blasphemy, expressed relief at the judge’s resignation as they shared with Christian Daily InternationalMorning Star News how he pressured them during cases.

Musk Says That He is no Responsible for Cutting Federal Jobs

Musk also recently re-tweeted that Hitler didn't murder millions, his public sector workers did.

Musk, who has over 219 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, retweeted a post saying Soviet revolutionary Joseph Stalin, former Chinese Communist Party chairman Mao Zedong and Hitler—whose regime under his direction orchestrated the Holocaust—did not murder millions of people, “Their public sector workers did.”

Seems he's following the same logic as his recent re-tweet.

I don't know if he is trying to be funny, or if the is really just that socially unaware, or if he is just very mentally unwell person. That tweet is just sick.

Christians decry plan in India for death penalty for conversions

Looking into it, it seems that the conversions that are illegal are what are regarded as forced conversions--in other words, it criminalizes forcing someone to convert, or doing so in fraudulent means. As this article explains:

The law in Madhya Pradesh has a provision to punish those found guilty of illegal conversion with up to 10 years imprisonment and a hefty fine. The law covers religious conversions through fraudulent means, like the pretext of marriage, misrepresentation, use of threat or force, influence, and coercion.

On the face of this, this law doesn't seem unreasonable, though it also seems like it could be easily abused. But even if the law isn't abused, the death penalty for this seems astoundingly harsh.

Chuck Schumer will vote to keep government open: 'For Donald Trump, a shutdown would be a gift'

Schumer said, 'For Donald Trump, a shutdown would be a gift'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says he will vote to keep the government open, warning that a shutdown has worse consequences for Americans and would only empower President Donald Trump and Elon Musk further.

"I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country to minimize the harms to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down," Schumer said while speaking on the Senate floor on Thursday.

The Democratic leader rattled off a list of reasons he disagrees with the House-passed stopgap spending bill, but added, "I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option."

Episcopal bishop denounces Trump's attempt to deport Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil

An Episcopal Church bishop has denounced the Trump administration's attempt to deport a Palestinian activist tied to an organization that supports terrorist attacks against Israel.

Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student at Columbia University known for his anti-Israel political activism, was detained by federal authorities last Saturday and is facing possible deportation, drawing protests.

Bishop Matthew Heyd of the Episcopal Diocese of New York said in a statement posted to Facebook earlier this week that his regional body "rejects the detention and threat of deportation of Mahmoud Khalil."

How many undocumented immigrants are here in the U.S., actually?

The 11 million estimate has floated around for a long time and seems broadly accurate, but does seem a little stale and grandfathered into conventional wisdom. Just recently here, someone quoted some think tank data...

This implies 27% of the 47.8 million are illegal immigrants, or 12.9 million.
I'll buy that.

Hamas claims it’s ready to release US-Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, 4 bodies for increased prisoner release

The Hamas terrorist organization announced on Friday that it is willing to agree to a deal that would see the release of American-Israeli IDF soldier Edan Alexander (20) and four bodies of deceased hostages — all of whom held dual citizenship.

In his first reaction just hours before the start of the Jewish Sabbath, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) indirectly rejected the ostensible offer.

The statement affirmed that Israel had accepted the latest proposal by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, while Hamas insisted on its demands and continued with psychological warfare.

A Rabbi Like No Other

Zecharya 8:1-23 (CJSB)
1 A message came from Adonai-Tzva’ot: 2 “Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘I am extremely jealous on Tziyon’s behalf, and I am jealous for her with great fury.’ 3 Adonai says, ‘I am returning to Tziyon, and I will live in Yerushalayim. Then Yerushalayim will be called Truth City, Adonai-Tzva’ot’s Mountain, the Mountain of the Holy One. 4 Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘Old men and old women will once again sit in the open places of Yerushalayim, each one with his cane in his hand, because of their great age. 5 The city’s open places will also be full of boys and girls playing there.’ 6 Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘This may seem amazing to the survivors in those days, but must it also seem amazing to me?’ says Adonai-Tzva’ot. 7 Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘I will save my people from lands east and west; 8 I will bring them back, and they will live in Yerushalayim. They will be my people; and I will be their God, with faithfulness and justice.’
9 “Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘Take courage, you who are hearing only now, in these days, these words spoken by the prophets when the foundation was being laid for rebuilding the temple, the house of Adonai-Tzva’ot. 10 For prior to that time, there were wages neither for people nor for animals; moreover, it was unsafe for anyone to go out or come in, because of the enemy; for I set all people each against the other. 11 But from now on, I will not treat the remnant of this people as I did before,’ says Adonai-Tzva’ot. 12 ‘Now they will sow in peace, the vine will give its fruit, the ground will produce its yield, the sky will give its dew, and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. 13 House of Y’hudah and house of Isra’el, just as you were formerly a curse among the nations, so now I will save you; and you will be a blessing. Don’t be afraid, but take courage!’
14 “For Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘Just as I resolved to do you harm when your forefathers provoked me,’ Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘and I did not relent; 15 so now, I resolve to do good to Yerushalayim and to the house of Y’hudah. Don’t be afraid! 16 These are the things you are to do: speak the truth to each other; in your courts, administer justice that is true and conducive to peace; 17 don’t plot harm against each other; and don’t love perjury; for all these are things I hate,’ says Adonai.”
18 This word of Adonai-Tzva’ot came to me: 19 “Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘The fast days of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months are to become times of joy, gladness and cheer for the house of Y’hudah. Therefore, love truth and peace.’
20 “Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘In the future, peoples and inhabitants of many cities will come; 21 the inhabitants of one city will travel to another and say, “We must go to ask Adonai’s favor and consult Adonai-Tzva’ot. I’ll go too.” 22 Yes, many peoples and powerful nations will come to consult Adonai-Tzva’ot in Yerushalayim and to ask Adonai’s favor.’
23 Adonai-Tzva’ot says, ‘When that time comes, ten men will take hold — speaking all the languages of the nations — will grab hold of the cloak of a Jew and say, “We want to go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.”’”

What events (signs) do you anticipate will usher this in (verse 23) when non-Jewish nations will no longer be anti-Israel, but instead pro-Israel turning their hearts to God? For example is the following before or after Zecharya 8:7-8 ...

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (CJB)
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a rousing cry, with a call from one of the ruling angels, and with God’s shofar; those who died united with the Messiah will be the first to rise; 17 then we who are left still alive will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we will always be with the Lord.
