  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here’s the No. 1 fallacy on eternal security

Man became guilty of Adam's sin by imputation (Ro 5:17), just as he became righteous by imputation of Christ's righteousness (Ro 5:18-19).
Claire, as intelligent as you are you nonetheless seem to go out of your way to avoid logic and truth here. Consider the whole chapter, the whole letter, together. Humanity became truly guilty of possessing that sin, meaning they was as distanced from God as Adam now was in Adam's fallen state and so all men became truly and unavoidably and personally sinners, unrighteous, as a result. We all possess the same "problem" as Adam had and news stories attest to this fact daily. Jesus came to rectify that situation, to make us truly and personally righteous, as were were created to be as he reconciles us with God, restoring that state of justice, marked by communion with God, that we were created for.

Awake Or Asleep?

I feel we would get a more complete understanding of what The Bible intended for us to understand when we include all the scriptures we can find on that Bible topic.

Someone please give me a scripture that seems to explain all people automatically after death get everlasting life in heaven or hell?

The 2025 Government Shutdown Thread

Trump is using the extortion tactics. Saying he may close democratic agencies. Those agencies are funded by Congress and for all Americans.
It is quite amusing to see Trump’s actions portrayed as extortion when it is the Democrats that gave him the power to make those cuts by trying to use extortion themselves to get their way.

The Schumer Shutdown

Well, no, they technically didn't.
Uh yeah they did. The Democrats voted not to. Thats how it works. The democrats knew the Reblicans werent going to give them 2 trillion dollars. They acted like children saying if you don't give me what I want I'm going home. This is the Drmocrats fault. Plain and simple.

Here’s the No. 1 fallacy on eternal security

Setting James against Paul (Eph 2:8-9) is never the correct way to understand Scripture.
God does not contradict himself in his holy word (2 Tim 3:16).
Yes, that's the point, Paul and James don't conflict.
That's the cart before the horse.
It's the verses that give us correct understanding, not our "understanding" that gives the verses correct meaning.
Um...we must understand the verses in order to know what they mean. Pretty simple. That's why people often disagree on the meaning of verses to begin with- because they fail to understand them.
And the verses are clear that salvation is by faith alone, not by faith's necessary works (Eph 2:8-9).
The bible is quite clear that no sinners enter heaven and that we must make effort to be free from sin (holy). Reconcile those passages and you'll better understand the Christian faith, and the role of faith. And, no, being good is not guaranteed to believers, the regenerate.-the will is continously involved until the day we die in choosing good, in remaining in Him, IOW. Again, being justifed is totally inseparable from being made just. And so, the directives given in the following passage remains totally unchanged under the new covenant:

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy

and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Faith is the vehicle, the means, that God uses to get us there, to establish us in that place of justice/righteousness so that we can obey as we are meant to.

FBI cuts ties with Anti-Defamation League after rightwing criticism that ADL declared that Turning Point USA had a history of "bigoted statements"

I'd like to know what statements they found that were "bigoted" but I'm also not liking how they're glorifying Kirk like he's Jesus #2. I read a headline the other day they want to put Kirks face on MONEY.... This is going seriously too overboard.

Elon Musk says he canceled his Netflix account — and urges his followers to as well

Per my previous post, it sounds like it's no so much that it's depicting any acts of that nature, but rather some of the underlying themes.

In the case of this show, one of the central themes is that the trans boy left home and cut off family ties due to them not being adequately supportive (hence the reason they're living in some sort of haunted amusement park to begin with)... At which point, their sidekick is a BIPOC autistic lesbian named Norma who has a crush on a Muslim girl. Throughout the show, Barney (trans boy) is also gay in addition, and has another boy who is the target of his crush.
(and no, that's not meant to be an over-the-top facetious exaggeration, that's actually the backdrop from what I'm reading)

Are those necessarily the themes that need to be present to that degree in shows intended for a Y7 audience?

I typically tend to look at it through the lens of a spectrum of
"show where a character happens to be LGBT" <-> "show where LGBT-related material seems to be a central theme and drives main storylines"

Based on the reviews I'm reading of the show (both the positive and negative ones), this show sounds like it could be a little more towards the latter.
It happens. I used to love Captain Planet when I was little not realizing it was just flat out preaching environmentalism to a young audience.

For what it’s worth, I’m terrible at recycling to this day so maybe preachy cartoons aren’t the most effective method of indoctrination.

Are infants guilty because of Adam's sin?

Spiritual death is the result of sin. Physical death is natural, since mankind was barred from the tree of life. Don't get physical and spiritual death mixed up. Paul is talking about spiritual death in this whole argument from ch. 3 to 8. Infants who die in infancy are welcome in heaven because they have not corrupted themselves, thus they are innocent. Again, the "imputed sin" argument is unconvincing.
"Convincing" is not the criteria for God's truth in Ro 5:14, 17, 18-19, where
all those of Adam are condemned by the sin of Adam imputed to them (Ro 5:14, 17), just as
all those of Christ are redeemed by the righteousness of Christ imputed to them (Ro 5:18-19).
Ok, so you don't interpret it literally. You think it's figurative language. That's your prerogative. But again, it's an argument based on the premise of imputed sin. I'm trying to find out what Paul's meaning is, as opposed to what people think he meant.
Study Ro 5:14, 17 (which imputed sin, v.17, is the pattern, v.14, for the imputed righteousness of the one to come; i.e., Jesus of Nazareth).
Those that are by nature objects of God's wrath are those walking according to the sons of disobedience.
It is our nature (with which we are born) that makes us "objects of God's wrath" (Eph 2:3); i.e., "by nature, objects of wrath."
All the sons of Adam are sons of disobedience through their inherited fallen sinful nature.
How can an infant who has not even had a chance to commit sin be included in this wrath?
Why would an infant rattlesnake in my backyard where my children play, which snake doesn't even have rattlers yet, be killed by me?
Again, the "imputed sin" argument requires that you assume it to be true. Honestly, I don't really want to continue a debate with you, since you aren't using accepted methods of exegesis. And don't say I'm not either, because I'm the one asking the question - I WANT to believe, but can't, if the argument is not convincing.
It's not God's job to convince you, it's your job to believe God in his word written.
And that belief/faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit (Php 1:29, 2 Pe 1:1, Ac 13:48, 18:27, Ro 12:3).

President Trump Signs Executive Order to Defund NPR and PBS

So your problem isn’t public funding, it’s the level of government at which something is being funded?
We all complain about various things that our tax dollars are spent on. But with more local control over local things each community can decide what they value and want. At the federal level we don't. I have little to no control of how my tax dollars are spent. When we got a big upgrade to our local library the voters had to approve it because their local taxes had to go up.

You can't be surprised that I disagree on how a lot of our federal dollars are spent. With local control there are far greater controls on the money. Most towns and cities are limited on their resources and have to go to their citizens ask for more and get the votes. Not so with the feds. They can over spend like mad with no consequence.

I want better controls on our spending. Dont spend money on stuff that isnt needed. Like PBS. PBS can exist without federal money. They just have to change their way of doing things.

Is this appropriate? Reading material

Working on it my friend ,Working on it......
Well I hope you're working in the right way, with the right intention and methods, seeking earnestly for what is True. Many are not, and their efforts can bear no fruit. Some are, and they will succeed. It is not easy, but it is easier than the alternative which is impossible.
Mt 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
Mt 7:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Here’s the No. 1 fallacy on eternal security

Man became guilty of Adam's sin by imputation (Ro 5:17), just as he became righteous by imputation of Christ's righteousness (Ro 5:18-19).
Also and may be an important part, verse 19 is also in regards to many being made sinners, as it was not just an imputation of sin from Adams disobedience to God, but it was also sinning as an example, likewise verse 19 also reveals that the obedience of Christ made many righteous. ( again as it is a parallel it is not only an imputation of sin as you are saying, it is also the opposite to how many wee sinners, to now be righteous. ( doing righteousness, or being sinners did not mean they did sin. ) Also some of Romans 8 for an extra reference.

Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were MADE SINNERS, so by the obedience of one shall many be MADE RIGHTEOUS.

Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Is AI making the human race dumber?

Maybe that's the case in engineering or other fields, but in my experiences in biology it's not. The lead author is usually the person who came up with the research idea, developed the proposal, secured the funding, hired the staff, oversaw the research, conducted the analyses, and led the development of the manuscript. I consider all of that to be "real work".
I'm glad to read that.

Do you Agree with what Hillary says in this Video

Voter registration changes, 2023–2025

Data from an August 2025 New York Times analysis shows the following registration changes, based on a comparison between the 2020 and 2024 election periods:
  • Democrats: A net loss of 2.1 million registered voters.
  • Republicans: A gain of 2.4 million registered voters.
I think this says a lot. Democrats are losing a ton of voters and people are continuing to leave the democrat party and it's over issues like health care for illegals. They used to be a party for the people, now they're a party for gain and power. And I'm talking about the elected officials, not the standard, average democrat and I think that's why so many are leaving the party in general.

When you have problems in cities of poor camps and their solution is just to bus the poor to various different states instead of housing them, and when you have a drug problem in your cities that the main stream news isn't reporting on and it takes youtubers to point it out with video evidence, and again, their solution is just to bus them to different states for them to deal with, and then slam your fist on a podium and pretend you have a bleeding heart for the illegals in this country, it also comes off disingenuous. I think a lot of people are seeing through the lies and dog and pony show in general and they're losing people even now.

To the people who back up their stance on poor illegals while ignoring the serious problems in America, regardless if you're a democrat or republican (as I've also heard republicans say they want health care for illegals -.-) it is absolutely selective concern. How are we supposed to care for millions of people while our dollar is crumbling, and food and healthcare in general is getting absurd to afford? Where is this extra cash supposed to come from when we can't even help our own people?

In 2024, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the United States reached 771,480, an 18% increase from 2023. What about them? Look at how high that number is, that's insane! We need to fix America before we can start handing out free anything for anyone else.

Charlie Kirk on Mary

I confess that I had never heard of Charlie Kirk prior to his death and even now do not know much about him. What I find curious and perplexing regarding the life and death of Mr. Kirk is that he is being marketed by the Far Right as a martyr not only of political freedom of speech but of (Protestant) Christianity. From what I know, he was, assuredly, a Catholic Christian who made lengthy speeches supporting the Far Right political narrative which is tinged with elements of Christianity. That he was a martyr of any sort is open to debate and I would be quite dumbfounded if he were to be declared a Catholic saint.

Continued Discussion about dogs in our sleeping beds

It says not to lie with an animal as with a woman. I think this means not to sexually join with an animal. It does not mean never to have an animal lying near to you.

This is unhealthy and filthy.
Well, in case the animal has not been kept clean and sanitary . . . it would be. But if you keep your animal healthy and clean, then it is ok.

What I would be more concerned about is if we make too much of an animal. I have seen how very cute creatures can be mainly about their own selves. But they can be idolized, maybe because it is easier to get along with them and to control them . . . versus learning . . . discovering . . . how to live in a close relationship with a human.

Being made to feel good with an animal is not necessarily the same as deeply being strong in Jesus so we can't be hurt >

"and who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?" (1 Peter 3:13)

Federal drug prosecutions fall to lowest level in decades as Trump shifts focus to deportations

Imagine that. Diverting federal resources from illegal drug investigations will naturally lead to less prosecutions. It will be interesting to see the annual data for 2025...
On the other hand, deporting people who commit less crime, leaves a population that commits more crime, the rates of crime will go up, just based on that.
Winning.

Multiple victims in Michigan church shooting; church on fire

….neo nazis aren’t what i ever look up since they’re awful….no further comment
Yes they are and its too bad we can't just arrest and lock them up just for being one. Far too many of these groups are violent and use violent rhetoric. Get rid them I say. If you belong to a known violent group you dont deserve to be in a free society to perpetuate violence.

The Desperate Mullahs of Iran

What seems to be missing in this thread is the Iranian Shi'ite view of Islamic eschatology. When the Shah was overthrown in 1979 there was immense anticipation that the long-prophesied caliphate centered in Tehran would be established encompassing the entire world leading to the imminent return of Mohammed in glory, preceded by Jesus. That was the primary impetus for the failed Iran/Iraq war. As time has gone on, however, none of these prophecies have come to pass; rather, Iran has steadily become a pariah nation with increasingly dire living conditions for the common people. At this point in time there is simmering discontent with occasional outburst as in the widespread rejection of women's headcoverings which are brutally repressed by an increasingly desperate political/religious bureaucracy. As with Mr. Putin and his quagmire in Ukraine, desperate times are leading to increasingly desperate measures. Having failed to "persuade" the Sunni regime in Iraq to submit to the Shi'ite caliphate in Tehran, Iran turned its attention to the perpetual bogeyman of Islam - Jews and the Jewish state. The Q'ran is quite explicit about the extermination of the Jews by the divinely led Muslims, such that Iranian mullahs determined that the rapid elimination of Israel via its allies in Syria and Palestine, would fulfill the long-expected prophecies. This is not happening; rather, Isreal seems to have the upper hand at this point against Islamic terrorism.

Islamic caliphates, of course, are nothing new at all and there have been many over the centuries of Islamic history, most of which have used varying forms of eschatological arguments to provide a theological motivation for their existence and aggression against enemies, both real and perceived.

Trump sends troops to the 'warzone' of Portland...

‘War-ravaged’ Portland hits back on Trump — with crochet, chicken costumes and farmers markets

It started Saturday when President Trump suddenly announced that he was sending the National Guard to “war-ravaged” Portland — where a small group of demonstrators have been staging a monthslong protest at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building south of downtown.

Oregon officials have pushed back forcefully, flooding their own social media with images of colorful cafe tables, sun-drenched farmers markets, rose gardens in full bloom and parks bursting with children, families and frolicking dogs. Officials would prefer the city be known for its Portlandia vibe, and are begging residents to stay peaceful and not give the Trump administration a protest spectacle.

“We need federal help to renew our infrastructure, and build affordable housing, to help clean our rivers and plant trees,” said Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on his social media. “Instead of help, they’re sending armored vehicles and masked men.”

All across the city this week, residents echoed similar themes.

“Nothing is happening here. This is a gorgeous, peaceful city,” said Hannah O’Malley, who was snacking on french fries at a table with a view of the Willamette River outside the Portland Sports Bar and Grill.

The restaurant was just a few blocks from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building where the ongoing demonstration has become the latest focus of the president’s ire against the city.

On Monday afternoon, a group of about 40 people including grandmothers, parents and their children, and a man in a chicken costume, held flowers and signs. A few yelled abuse through a metal gate at ICE officers standing in the driveway.

Many residents said they think the president may be confusing what is happening in Portland now with a period in 2020 in which the city was briefly convulsed over Black Live Matter protests.

She and other residents said they have noticed that clips of the riots and other violence from 2020 have recently been recirculating on social media and even some cable news shows.

As night fell, the retired women and children who had been protesting outside the ICE facility went home, and more and more younger people began to take their places.

By 10 p.m., law enforcement was massed on the roof of the ICE building in tactical gear. Black-clad protesters — watched over by local television reporters and some independent media — played cat and mouse with the officers, stepping toward the building only to be repelled by rounds of pepper balls.

[At one point] a group of officers burst out of a van and appeared to detain one of the protesters. Then the officers dispersed, and the standoff resumed.

Around the corner, a couple with gray hair sporting sleek rain jackets walked their little dog along the street. If they were concerned about the made-for-video drama that was playing out a few yards away, they didn’t show it. They just continued to walk their dog.

On Wednesday morning, the president weighed in again, writing on Truth Social, “Conditions continue to deteriorate into lawless mayhem.”
