  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the 1960"s man was to supposed to ride in a rocket 200,000+ miles away from earth. But yet they could not even go 6 miles deep in the ocean.

How Deep Has Man Gone in the Ocean? - The Institute for Environmental Research and Education
The deepest that a human has ventured into the ocean is 10,925 meters (35,843 feet), achieved by Victor Vescovo in the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench. This solo dive, conducted in 2019, surpasses previous records and highlights the incredible engineering feats required to withstand the immense pressure of the deepest ocean environments.

Jesus & Social Justice

Of course, one's free will may be constrained but never eliminated. For example, coercion may require the commission of an act but such an act is done unwillingly. Fear and seduction may also mitigate the will but the virtues of courage and temperance are available to overcome those constraints. Who do we honor -- heroes or cowards?
By acknowledging that some will be heroes and some will be cowards, you're essentially saying the same thing that Bèlla has been saying.

Charlie Kirk's Opinions Didn't Deserve Him Being Murdered

Next, you speak of “Christian nationalism”. I imagine we don’t agree on what that is, but if I think about the words, then a) Am I a Christian? Yes. b) Do I love my nation(country)? Yes. In that sense we might agree that I am a “Christian nationalist”.
Christian nationalism has been defined, it is not an abstract (and wiki) . It is a concept that is controversial even among the heterodox. Marrying of an evangelical protestant faith construct with right wing politics is not something someone unknowing (as you admitted) should endorse lightly.
Being partisan is easy. Being fair to your enemies is not.
Your series of three posts have shown you are partisan.

(truncated)
My earlier points.. ..you may disagree with them, you can't refute them, either.
I disagree with some of your points and see more than one point to quibble.
One of which is the notion that, "the second amendment was not written and agreed upon out of safety concerns, but out of the overriding concern that a government can tyrannize its own people."
The very text of the 2nd Amendment refutes that notion. The 2nd Amendment was written an adpoted as " being necessary to the security of a free State, " not opposition to it. It was the opposition to a standing army, and the absence of a standing army when the 2nd Amendment was written and adopted that was the overriding concern that a government can tyrannize its own people. Having an armed citizenry was the compromise. The armed citizenry militia were there to protect the government in the absence of a state military.

Another point I would quibble is your notion that placing limits on unfettered gun ownership is an all or nothing proposal.
There are plenty of us in the middle of the extremes of today's "do nothing" conservatism to that of the left which would make all guns illegal.
I would not favor outlawing gun-ownership, but I would favor stricter background checks, red-flag laws, registration, licensing and insurance of weapons. None of which would result in the trite platitude of only outlaws having guns.

OUTGOING Bp. Garcia of Monterey suppresses the 17 year long TLM community

Do you have any evidence AT ALL that it might be the case?

Not possible to have both, eh? Because TLM bad? Because Texas A&M is a secular college? Note that these students could not have the TLM offered at the Catholic Student Center, though they first asked for it there, so they tried to have it elsewhere.

Or can't be celebrated. This new bishop has the authority to make such bad decisions. To make decisions harmful to his flock. To earn a 'Millstone Award' if he so desires. That's between him and God.

Very heavy handed. Yup, the bishop has the authority to shut it all down. His wisdom is in question, not his authority.

Texas is a VERY BIG STATE if you've never been there. How does a student, maybe with no car at college, drive all the way to what could be the other end of the state to attend a TLM?

This URL indicates that the TLM is offered at the cathedral in Austin. How many hours before this new bishop shuts that down?
You're the one who posted their reason for becoming Catholics.

You posted;
"Wherein it stated that "For many of Juventutem members who are converts, the unbroken tradition of the Catholic Church is the very reason they became Catholic.""

I responded to this statement, but if the article means something other, than post it.

Another look at the moon landing.

Talk about the height of visual blindness. Science has brought about generations of visual blind people with their science lies, about the moon being 200,000+ miles out in a made up outer space.

When God has stated and has give us visual truth to His word. With the visual truth in actual real life,. of the moon being place in the raqia (sky) above the earth, to give light to the earth.

But yet!
Only science blinded people see a moon that is 200,000+mile out in the darkness of space. When they see a moon out in daylight during the daytime.

Water and metabolism of humans

The gastric acid is water solution. Additionally, water helps gut bacteria to multiply and metabolize food which helps in digestion. In basic terms, water not only helps but essential part of digestion process.

But if you're asking if you need to drink insane amounts of water to get proper digestion, you won't get one answer to that.

While doctors say you need to drink 2 liters of water a day. Scholarly research articles in NIH PubMed will tell you that humans can healthily adapt to much lower quantities of daily hydration without any ill effect and these adaptations can be passed down to offspring.

My dad drank less than 1 glass of water each day. I drink even less and only 1/4 glass if I didn't exercise. With exercise, the quantity can range from 1/2 glass to 1 glass of water each day.

I get most of the needed fluids from food and sweet beverages which is not a lot. My total fluid intake would be 2.5 to 3 glasses each day even when accounting for exercise and even when I'm already drinking whenever I feel thirsty. It's very little but I experience no issues with digestion and my metabolic efficiency is at athletic levels.

I don't recommend this practice. We're just quite adapted to very little water intake.
I have kidney issues so I drank a large amount of water daily.

The Digital Crucifixion of Christianity Altman’s algorithms are annihilating faith.

It's going to be indispensable for Catholic families to have access to trusted Catholic media like Formed and Open Light (every parish should have a subscription). Also access to Ignatius Study Bible, Catechisms, Church Fathers including hard copies to be able to turn the darn phone off once in a while. :)

There is a new app starting October 7 that is geared toward Traditional Catholics...

3 dead, 8 injured in shooting at American Fish Company in Southport, NC

Ex-Marine Allegedly Behind Southport Bar Boat Massacre That Left 3 Dead, 8 Hurt

Authorities have identified the alleged shooter as Sean William DeBevoise, a 40-year-old former Marine who legally changed his name to Nigel Max Edge. DeBevoise once lived in Oak Island, North Carolina, and served in Iraq, where he reportedly sustained traumatic injuries, including a suspected gunshot wound to the head in 2006.

After his injuries, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and experienced bouts of disorganised thinking. Public records and online postings show a man increasingly consumed by conspiracy theories. He repeatedly claimed he was being targeted by what he described as a 'white supremacist LGBTQ paedophile ring.'

He filed a string of lawsuits and penned erratic Facebook posts railing against perceived enemies.

In 2012, he accompanied country singer Kellie Pickler to the CMT Awards.

Nigel Max Edge, faces:

3 counts of First-Degree Murder

5 counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder

5 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

According to court documents, he used a short barrel AR rifle, with suppressor, folding stock and scope.

Does "equality" even matter to Jesus?

I think making an issue about equality is itself an ideology. It implies that there is such a political entity that can be defined in one way or another and thats the problem. That it can be subjectively defined which will end up never being a unified meaning or representation.

The fundemental problem I think is the basis being a subjective determination rather than one beyond human subjective determinations. Like we can determine that gravity is a law of nature regardless of subjective beliefs about gravity.

We use to as a society and nation have this transcedent yet lawful truth principle as the basis for human worth. Which is that we were made in Gods image and endowed with natural inalienable God given rights that could not be taken away by individual, group or State actors no matter what.

Not because we belongs to a certain identity group like ethnic, race, gender or sex. But simply for being human. For being a sovereign and divine individual child of God. This looked past identity and the only qualification was simply being born a human.

It took us a while to realise this and it became the basis for national Declarations and Human Rights. But then the world ideologues decided to take God out of the equation. Which then brought it back to humans being the gods in determining human worth. Now we have culture wars over how we should value humans based on the color or their skin, sex, a growing list of genders and all sorts of other markers.

A constant fight over the truth. When you take God out of the equation thats what we are left with human gods fighting over who holds the truth of morality and human worth according to many differing beliefs and ideologies. Well actually two main ones. One with God and one without.

This morning study on Colossians and the Gospel

@Soyeong and @Studyman the context starts in chapter one.

There is a hope, a joyful expectation that has been laid up in Heaven for us. vs 5. Which we heard in the truth of the Gospel. This joyful expectation is present with us to walk worthy of the Lord. Bearing fruit in every good work. And Increasing in the recognition of God. Being endued~ in all power, in accord with the mightiness of His *glory, into all endurance and patience with joy. Giving thanks to the Father. The One who has made and continues to make us competent, partakers of the inheritance of the saints, in light. Rescuing us out of the power of darkness. Transferring us into the kingdom of His Son of His love. In Whom we have deliverance, the remission, removal of the sins through His blood that are past. And through him all things consist, are held together, including us. For in Him we live, move and have our being. For we are Reconciled in the body of His flesh through His death to present us holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight through His resurrection: IF WE CONTINUE in the faith grounded and settled and not moved away from the hope (expectation) of the gospel. The expectation laid up in heaven for us. The mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope, expectation of glory, the MYSTERY to which Paul speaks. Which we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect, Holy, unblameable and unreprovable in and through Christ Jesus. Being rescued from the power of darkness being translated into the Kingdom, the Body of Christ, the Temple of God. Wherein we labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in us mightily.

That our hearts be comforted, knitted together in love. In full assurance of the understanding and the acknowledgment of the Mystery of God which is Christ in you the hope. joyful expectation of His glory. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge so we are not beguiled by enticing words and that we remain steadfast in in the faith of Christ Jesus. In that we whom have received Christ, Christ in you, so walk ye in Him.

Rooted and built up in Him. Established in the faith. Rescued from the power of darkness. Translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son. Made competent to present us Holy, unblamable and unreprovable in His sight.

Therefore Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments, the first principles of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And we are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also we are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him being dead in our sins and the uncircumcision of our flesh, hath he quickened together with him, therefore we walk in newness of life. Wherein we labour, striving according to his working, which works in us mightily. Being endued with all power in accordance with the mightiness of His Glory in Christ Jesus.

Having been forgiven all trespasses; having made peace through the blood of his cross, reconciling all things unto himself the deliverance, the remission, removal of the sins through His blood. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances, the certificate of indebtedness. What we owed because of our sin according to the hand writing of ordinances, the certificate of indebtedness that Moses penned due to our sin. For this is that which was against us. And is that which was contrary to us. This He took out of the way, nailing it to his cross. Spoiling THESE principalities, that which was first established and it's power nailing it to the cross. Making a show of them openly. Therefore, because of what was just said, let no man, judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath, these which are of those handwriting of ordinances. That which was written because of our sin and therefore done away with at the cross. For we have been forgiven of all our trespasses. For they were a shadow of things to come, but the body, the church (vs.1:18,24) is of Christ.

Political Pawns

This bombshell report is something that all of us ought to read.
On January 6, 2021, President Trump was in the White House. Every cabinet member serving on that day had been appointed by President Trump, including then-FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Are you suggesting that all of the political appointees in the Trump administration utilized the FBI for political purposes on January 6, 2021?

Has Kirk's Death Prompted You?

Nobody did.

Good to know. It helps to explain what you mean by things when they indicate they don't have a clue what you're talking about.

As a besides, the definition I use for the term "following" politics is the definition that's been in use my entire life in the political arena. It helps to use terms the same way everyone else does to start with.

How Is One’s Name Written in the Book of Life?

So, in 2 Perter 2: 18-22 what holy commandment did the person turn from to again become polluted (a sinner)? What did God do to the person?
At the start of the chapter, Peter discusses false prophets and teachers who have never truly accepted Christ. Though they know Christ, his teachings, the gospel, and the path to salvation, they have not welcomed Christ into their hearts. Paul also wrote about false teacher and false prophet in his latter. These people “Know” God all to well, they “Know “ the way to salvation but they are never saved.

Hebrew 6: 4-8 is another example of these kind of people.

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[c] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. 7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. 8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Many people “know/enlighten” God and understand the path to eternity, yet have never truly accepted Christ. I am sure you know such person in your life, I am praying for two such individuals—family friends who grew up in Christian homes, know scripture, and understand the reasons for Christ’s sacrifice and salvation, but have never genuinely accepted Christ and now no longer believe in God.

Helping at church.

Most churches are terrible today.

My advice is that if you feel worse and not better after going to a certain church - stop going there.

Encountering God in liturgy and Sacrament is deeply important for many Christians, especially those of us who hang out in the STR-Anglican forum.

Obviously, it would be better if you could have liturgy and Sacrament AND a friendly Christian community in a parish, but sometimes it's hard to find all of that in the same place.
