  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The pogrom goes on.

It goes on despite not knowing what Leo XIV has in mind.

The OUTGOING/GONE Bishop Garcia of Monterey (California) is terminating the TLM that has been going on for 17 years. Yes, “out”. Bp. Daniel Garcia was named Bishop of Austin on 2 July 2025, but he has still been running Monterey. Figure that out.

He was installed by Francis in Monterey in 2018. He was named by Leo XIV to Austin on 2 July 2025 and he was installed in Austin on 18 September 2025…. four days after he signed this letter.

On 19 September, Bishop Slawomir Szkredka was named Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Monterey in California.

Now he shuts down the TLM? Before a new bishop can be appointed to Monterey who might want to make his own decisions?

Continued below.

I thought he might have been the 'retiring' bishop of Monterey, but no, he's still climbing the ranks. He must think the pogrom in his old diocese will earn him points for further promotion. Does he know something we don't know?

I wonder what his connection is to Cupich and McElroy and McCarrick et all?

I wonder if he will go to Austin and do the same thing?

Waiting for the shoe to drop in my own diocese with a newly installed 'Francis' pope. So far nothing.

Bishop Garcia Ended TLM in Monterrey & Just Now at Texas A&M University

Probably because the TLM was being celebrated at Texas A&M U, and the Bishop
wants the ordinary format to be used there being there are more Catholics who are
used to the Novus Ordo in the vernacular.

I read the article posted by Michie, with the headline in the article;

New TLM Suppression: Diocese of Austin axes scheduled Latin Mass at Texas A&M University

This is what I commented on.

This is what I commented on.
Wherein it stated that "For many of Juventutem members who are converts, the unbroken tradition of the Catholic Church is the very reason they became Catholic."

So it is a kick in the teeth for these students.

So, they became Catholic for the culture of the TLM rather than faith in Christ? I hope this isn't the case.

Texas A&M is a secular college with a diverse Catholic population and the ordinary is the format that should be used,
not the extra-ordinary.

All we can do is humbly submit to the rightful authority of the Bishop who decides when and where the TLM can
be celebrated.

Here's another article on it;

FYI, the TLM is still allowed in Texas;

Do you have any evidence AT ALL that it might be the case?

Not possible to have both, eh? Because TLM bad? Because Texas A&M is a secular college? Note that these students could not have the TLM offered at the Catholic Student Center, though they first asked for it there, so they tried to have it elsewhere.
All we can do is humbly submit to the rightful authority of the Bishop who decides when and where the TLM can

Or can't be celebrated. This new bishop has the authority to make such bad decisions. To make decisions harmful to his flock. To earn a 'Millstone Award' if he so desires. That's between him and God.
Here's another article on it;

Very heavy handed. Yup, the bishop has the authority to shut it all down. His wisdom is in question, not his authority.
FYI, the TLM is still allowed in Texas;
Texas is a VERY BIG STATE if you've never been there. How does a student, maybe with no car at college, drive all the way to what could be the other end of the state to attend a TLM?
This URL indicates that the TLM is offered at the cathedral in Austin. How many hours before this new bishop shuts that down?

You're the one who posted their reason for becoming Catholics.

You posted;
"Wherein it stated that "For many of Juventutem members who are converts, the unbroken tradition of the Catholic Church is the very reason they became Catholic.""

I responded to this statement, but if the article means something other, than post it.

You are the one who said "... they became Catholic for the culture of the TLM rather than faith in Christ". You posited it as a question, granted, but you implied they became Catholic for the wrong reason.

Now you double down on it. Do you believe them to have indeed joined the Catholic Church for something other than Christ? Do you have any real evidence of that other than your misreading of the article? Talk about bad faith.

It was a question, not a statement. Notice the ? at the end of the sentence.

Thank you for admitting that you have no basis in fact for questioning the motivation of these students for becoming Catholic.
