  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Google Admits To Censoring Under Pressure From Biden Administration

I don't have a problem with a president putting pressure to stop health misinformation during a health crisis. Just as it's not okay to shout "fire" in a theater or "bomb" in a plane, free speech ends when you're endangering others.

I also don't have a problem with accounts being restored after the crisis has passed.

Take a stand on political violence

Just another mentally ill Liberal who thinks killing people is the solution.

The Two-Decade Red State Murder Problem (January 27 2023)
-
collected homicide data from 2000 through 2020 for all 50 states from the Center of Disease Control Wonder’s National Center for Health Statistics Mortality Data. Data is based on death certificates collected by state registries and provided to the National Vital Statistics System.

1) The murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Donald Trump has exceeded the murder rate in the 25 states that voted for Joe Biden in every year from 2000 to 2020.

2)-Over this 21-year span, this Red State murder gap has steadily widened from a low of 9% more per capita red state murders in 2003 and 2004 to 44% more per capita red state murders in 2019, before settling back to 43% in 2020.

3) Altogether, the per capita Red State murder rate was 23% higher than the Blue State murder rate when all 21 years were combined.

4) If Blue State murder rates were as high as Red State murder rates, Biden-voting states would have suffered over 45,000 more murders between 2000 and 2020.

5) Even when murders in the largest cities in red states are removed, overall murder rates in Trump-voting states were 12% higher than Biden-voting states across this 21-year period and were higher in 18 of the 21 years observed.

6) Despite evidence to the contrary, Republicans have made crime a major selling point over the past several elections. In 2020 and 2022, they ran ads accusing Democratic candidates of wanting to “defund the police”– a position held by only a handful of fringe Democratic officeholders!

7) In October 2022, one-quarter of ads from Republican candidates and PACs focused on crime. Republican-aligned Fox News aired, on average, 141 segments on crime across weekdays in the two months leading up to the midterms. In the week after the midterm, their coverage of violent crime dropped by 50%.

8) In March of 2022, we released a report that found murder rates in 2020 were 40% higher in Trump-voting states than Biden-voting states.

FACTORS THAT ACCOUNT FOR THIS DISCREPANCY IN HOMICIDES BETWEEN FLUE AND RED STATES

GUNS- estimated that gun ownership rates are as much as twice as high in a typical red state than a typical blue state
- 79% of all homicides are committed with a firearm

POVERTY - studies have found a correlation between poverty and violent crime.
- Red states tend to have higher rates of poverty rates than Blue states.

EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT - Those

Kimmel is Back

Jimmy Kimmel Did Not Say Exactly What You Think He Said

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel doesn’t actually say “this kid” was “one of them.” You could read it a different way: Robinson wasn’t MAGA, and therefore MAGA is out there trying to characterize him as something else. Or even: Who knows if Robinson was or wasn’t MAGA, either way MAGA is trying to score points based on his politics.

Kimmel himself would seem to be of this opinion. In Hollywood Reporter‘s latest story detailing how the suspension went down behind the scenes, Kimmel is said to have been “defending what he said [as] being grossly mischaracterized by a certain group of people.”
No, he doesn’t actually say it, he implies it.

Left-Wing Terrorism Is on the Rise

. This extraordinary drop-off is too recent to allow for any definitive explanations—and the number of terror incidents often fluctuates over short periods—but Trump’s reelection could be a key factor. His victory deflated election conspiracies that had once motivated many extremists.

Let's focus on this part. They are working with a relatively small window of time, with a relatively limited dataset, to support their implied claims.

He said the shooter was MAGA.

Has Kirk's Death Prompted You?

I wouldn't mind it if the whole country were Christian.
If Christians could agree on what that would mean and still not make non Christians feel second class. Of course it would be unconstitutional.
I guess we have veered off topic a little into politics. Though I do not mind talking about politics, the original question was, has the Charlie Kirk death encouraged you to be more outspoken?
As I said, it encouraged me to be a better listener. That is counter cultural and really quite a challenge since we have been groomed to proclaim our opinions as facts, hear only what we want to hear, double down and think the worst of those who do not share our views and beliefs.

Is AI making the human race dumber?

My experience is the spread of AI-generate search results and summaries are INCREASING the amount of work I have perform in order to locate and read reliable information.

I recently disabled AI-generated search results in Firefox, but I've not done the same in Chrome. The difference in terms of being able to find what information I want, and the speed at which I can do so, is night and day.

The biggest thing with AI has been reading a lot of "wait, what?" statements. I'll look at an AI generated summary and find something total incongruous, out of place or obviously in error. So I'll check the data point, statement of fact or whatever and find that roughly 2 out of 3 times it will be wrong (or in error in some other fashion, like being years out of date).

However, I've got nearly 20 years of experience in my subject area. It's going to be so hard for people without that expertise to parse what's real and what's not.

Three ICE detainees shot, 2 dead, at ICE facility in Dallas; suspected shooter committed suicide.

I (and we on the left) don’t own the violent actions of whatever random nut decides to take the law into their own hands.
That is the best response I have heard from you in many a moons. And, I totally agree with you. There are people who align with either side of the political spectrum and think that killing someone is the answer to solving our differences. It just escalates them. These killers do not represent those of either party. They are extremely misguided individuals who need professional psychological help to bring there thinking down many notches.

Why are the church as a whole silent about spiritual warfare?

The pastor said he could see into the spirit
people say lots of stuff.

If i was leader of a church i would not be able to speak of such things publically, unless the matter concerned the entire church. (which would be rare)
when i see something affecting an individual, that is only between them, myself, and God, and possibly their parents if they are under the age of 13.

This is the scariest verse in the bible for believers

Sadly, throughout my entire life, it seems that a very large majority of believers think that the time to be quiet is ongoing. They will only speak up inside the church.

Yes, the command is to go into the World.

How we do this is up for discussion.

However according to John 17 it is when the world sees the unity among believers that they will be drawn to Christ.

Such a unity to be visible to the world must be a healthy family or community of believers.

Almost all of church activities are in buildings instead of where they might be visible to all.

Worship in the town square might be a good move.

We used to do street drama to convey the Gospel...

Is AI making the human race dumber?

First of all is the Flynn effect where IQ has gradually increased over the past century due to various factors such as education and improved nutrition but has plateaued since around 2010.

IQTrends.jpg

While this predates the AI revolution latest studies studies indicate an anti-Flynn effect may now be in effect with IQ scores falling.
A reason for this is an over reliance on AI resulting in diminished skills for independent problem solving.

Light weight report.

Heavier academic paper.

Why are the church as a whole silent about spiritual warfare?

If this thread is any indication there are some within the flock who enjoy discussing demons, exorcists and the like. The lack of similar discourse within the church doesn’t mean they’re ignorant or the members are oblivious. Oftentimes it’s a reflection of maturity and conversations are had as needed. They don’t sit around discussing the devil or spiritual battles as a norm.

~bella
I've always had some interest in the matter because as children my parents read the entire bible chapters at a time at the dinner table every night. Then at age 7 a spirit tells me there is a generational curse on my grandparents family. But i had no concept come to mind at all, to pray against it until 17 years later. Listening to Russ Dizdar on Coast to Coast Am in my teenage years was interesting, he seemed legit to me.

I recall an exchanged with the forum member Abitter01, and he made the statement to the effect of: there are no "real" books on spiritual warfare. I mentioned this at my local church during a meeting and someone told me afterwards: what amounts to "i'm sure you know the reason why. its because you have to be led of the Spirit to do it."

So basically, and this is also inline with my own experience of witnessing just about every single person i've interacted with on reddit who has any kind of substantially accurate and personal spiritual warfare going on between them and other persons... they always delete their posts and accounts. In other words, the risk of Collateral damage from people attempting to solve their own, and other people's problems through spiritual warfare on their own authority is too high, for God to permit people to write what amounts to "how to" manuals.

Quiet witness without proclamation will never be enough on its own, because faith comes by hearing the Word

Sometime this is a still small voice.

Faith comes from hearing the Word of Christ.

This is not always a loud proclamation.
