  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump to sign executive order directing AG to prosecute flag desecration

Makes me wonder, did any country have term limits before the United States?

Which country was the first kind of depends on how you define it, but there were appear to have been countries prior to the United States that had term limits. Though when the first term limits in the United States were depends, again, on exactly how you define them. Are we counting term limits under the Articles of Confederation? Do state restrictions count or does it have to be something on the national level?

Australia is a small country. But I'd consider us great. I can list all the reasons why. And I can list all our faults as well.

Russia is a strong country. And in some aspects I'd consider them great. But...well you know the situation.

The US is a powerful country. And you have a lot to be proud about. But you are being run by a small minded man. In the eyes of the world your reputation is being trashed. I don't consider you as being great at this time.

You're like an old friend who is being led astray. I sincerely hope that you recover.
And all I am saying is that American greatness is what made America big, powerful, and the richest if I may add. That is an inconvenient truth.

I Remember...

Cutting board is harder than one might think. Have to measure, cut, plane, glue, clamp, sand and stain.
Thank you. I'd forgotten all that. You've rekindled a badly needed sense of accomplishment in me. :D
I'd make fun of them, but I'm still wearing some of the same shirts...
Another True Confession: just a couple years ago, I threw away a shirt I wore in junior high. Yes I did grow to be a man, but I guess the fabric just stretched a lot. I just wore it to go jogging. The shirt was celebrating the CB radio, with a bunch of phrases like "breaker 1-9" and "10-4 good buddy". I still have a portable, hand-held CB radio that I got back then. The unit was like a big walkie talkie that you plugged in to your car's cigarette lighter charger. The antenna had a magnetic base so you could place it or remove from your car's roof easily.

Anybody remember the CB radio craze of the mid-70's? Anybody remember cars with cigarette lighters and ashtrays?

If it’s any consolation, Trump won’t be around forever. We have term limits. Not to mention, he’s elderly.

Idolatry

Yes, I am arguing the affirmative and I will prove not only that idolatry was condemned by the ancient church
Easy argument to win here, since we're all in agreement o that point. But if you enjoy "preaching to the choir", go for it.
but also it is as we see in the second commandment- made things that are venerated.
Like the Cross of Christ?
Now my opponents are going to get desperate
I'm fairly frothing at the mouth even now.
, engage personal attacks
Hmmm... OK, You're literally Hitler.
and perhaps even deliberately tell lies.
I'm 6'3 and classically handsome.
Why? Becuase they are here to defend their church
My church is red hot, your church ain't diddly squat!
. I am here to defend the faith, one true faith.
I 've waiting for you to make that startling revelation.
There has already been a bogus term introduced - “icon”
OK, I admit it - I made that word up myself.
. An icon is an idol.
Well, I reckon if you say so then there's an end of it.
The people who attempt to make a (false) distinction between idol and icon are simply trying to justify their error and sin.
Yep, no question about it. And also in a vicious attempt to discredit a gallant defenddr og the faith (that would be you, of course).
Next witness)
"Your honor, I move that this case be dismissed on the grounds of the Sanity Clause!
Motion denied! Everybody knows there ain't no Sanity Clause!"
Justin martyr. Credited as the first Christian apologist defines idolatry as “set in shrines and called Gods”.
Right. And afaik, no, there are no icons or statuary claiming to be images of God, or any collectively caled "gods:". Do you know of any?
So something that is made and venerated.
That ain't what he saidc, is it? That's just what you happen to believe, worth the price charged.

So you wiffed that one. Any more you'd care to try?

DOGE Uploaded Americans’ Social Security Data to the Cloud

What happens when 19 year olds are running the show...

The U.S. DOGE Service uploaded a copy of Americans’ Social Security data to the digital cloud, risking the security of critical personal information for more than 300 million people, a whistleblower in the agency alleged.

Chief Data Officer Charles Borges raised concerns that DOGE staffers bypassed safeguards, circumvented a court order and created a copy of the Social Security Administration’s entire collection of data on the U.S. public on the cloud. Borges said the SSA had no oversight of who had access to the file.

Trump hiding heavily-bruised hand with makeup

Right, but there's a difference between "rivals" (whose opinions they don't value) not liking a person, and their own ardent supporters losing respect for them from seeing them inebriated.

I had a former boss who like that...would refuse to "let his hair down" (even at office parties) out of fear that someone may not view him as "in complete control of all things, at all times"
Ahhh, gotcha!

Can you imagine love in heaven?

You can imagine it? Emotionally?

Do you ever experience this love here on earth?

I did once have a dream that made me feel this type of love. Or at least I think it did. I was even able to emotionally recollect it for a time... until sadly it gradually drifted away and started feeling like the same old suffering/pain context love I always feel.

but your not talking about God, the same love you always feel.’ I feel it sometimes when my heart opens up if I let it. I also know I’m loved because of what Jesus did. I have internalized it. I love Him when I obey and feel pretty good about that.

but I just feel like I would be all enraptured and overwhelmed by His perfect light. You can give any power to God. He has it. I feel what it would be to be the opposite of myself. Perfect no inhibitions. Me in the background. We will have bodies so an element of perfect self. Unimaginable really, but perfect balance poise and well being. Not like life here at all. Not even an erring thought just yes Jesus yes.

No, she's saying if a flag is being used in one context - racism, then reasonable people would not want to be associated with it being used in that way.

But if we beat England in the cricket and someone is waving an Australian flag at the ground then I'll get involved and there'll be selfies.

Same flag. Different context. Different reactions.
What if an Australian vet is putting up a flag pole in their front lawn?

No. Being the biggest and strongest is a product of greatness. In other words, we are not great because we are big and strong. We are big and strong because of our greatness.
Well, allrighty. You are great because you are big and strong. And you are big and strong because of your greatness.

That must make sense to someone.

I Remember...

The only thing I remember making in shop was a wooden kitchen cutting board. If you had made your post a month ago, I could've told you I still had it because I did.
Cutting board is harder than one might think. Have to measure, cut, plane, glue, clamp, sand and stain. Everyone in my class had to make a bench. It cost $1.00 for the wood if you used pine and for a $1.25 you could get the oak. After a half century all those who had the foresight to buy oak, still have the lopsided, asymmetrical, dented and scratched bench taking up valuable space. I'd make fun of them, but I'm still wearing some of the same shirts...

A conversation about unity.

In John 17 we read that the visible unity of believers draws the unsaved to Jesus.

This is "first Love" spoken by John in Rev 2.

Sadly this is rare in churches as the cost of allowing Jesus to impact our lives and institutions to that end is too high.

Equality among the saints and unity go hand in hand but we have relegated the early chapters of Acts to the 'too hard' basket.

'Viva Christo Rey' with Rick Thomas, back in the 60's was a good example of such a return to Unity, Equality and Love.

@Tropical Wilds' statement removes it from context-dependence.

Is that how you determine greatness? By being bigger and stronger? Well, allrighty then.
No. Being the biggest and strongest is a product of greatness. In other words, we are not great because we are big and strong. We are big and strong because of our greatness.
