14 Be willing to accept those who still have doubts about what believers can do. And don’t argue with them about their different ideas. 2 Some people believe they can eat any kind of food, but those who have doubts eat only vegetables. 3 Those who know they can eat any kind of food must not feel that they are better than those who eat only vegetables. And those who eat only vegetables must not decide that those who eat all foods are wrong. God has accepted them. 4 You cannot judge the servants of someone else. Their own master decides if they are doing right or wrong. And the Lord’s servants will be right, because the Lord is able to make them right.

Before the flood it is possible some people only ate vegetables. Beef Jerky has been found in Archeological sites that could predate Noah --- I do not know for sure.

I understand modern butchery to be a straightforward, secular process.

Gentiles have no spiritual obligation to eat kosher, but I take it as worthwhile health advice, like hand-washing & male circumcision.

In the days when that was written, it was common for leftover meat from animals that were sacrificed in Roman temples to be sold in the marketplace. In an effort to avoid the sin of eating food sacrificed to idols, some Christians went vegetarian. Others were not as extreme in their avoidance. Paul was writing against division over this.

That is true. I am also looking at the principle that text gives us.

Isaiah 25:6
God’s Banquet for His Servants

The Lord All-Powerful will give a feast for all the people on this mountain. At the feast, there will be the best foods and wines. The meat will be good and tender, the wine pure and clear.

Yes, meat offered to idols is still present today. Most lamb you find in the USA is Halal, meaning an Islamic priest has prayed over and dedicated the lamb to the god of Islam (an idol) before slaughtering it. Halal certified meat is building a presence in the world marketplace, particularly lamb.

Kosher meat also counts as Halal, though not the other way around.

My prayer over a meal trumps how it was prepared.

BEFORE MEALS:
O Christ our God, bless the food, drink, and fellowship of Thy servants, for Thou art holy always, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

AFTER MEALS:
We give thanks to Thee, O Christ our God, that Thou hast satisfied us with Thy earthly blessings; deprive us not also of Thy Heavenly Kingdom. As Thou didst come to Thy disciples and didst grant them peace; so come to us and save us, O Savior.

Can you imagine going to your local Burger King, ordering a whopper and fries and when the person hands you the tray says, here you go Sir have a nice day, and oh, by the way the meat you are going to consume in a moment has been slain and sacrificed to an idol ^_^

Would you eat it or not eat it because of that persons conscience if they did not know you or that you were a christian?

Or would you toss it (demand your money back) and go to Wendys and be sure to use the drive thru from then on? ^_^

To the OP would seem so, I would always jokingly say that Cain was the first vegetarian (because he would bring the fruits of the ground) whereas Abel brought the choicest part of the firstlings of his flock. But on second thought, maybe Abel was the vegetarian (offering God the first of the fat of the flock) whereas Cain was really the carnivore (but the one holding back on the good offering) that should be offered to God (and trying to pass the vegies off as a decent offering to God).

I do not know if those pyramids were built before or after the flood.

The Jews "were required" to eat meat as part of their worship service in the case of Passover and the Priests were required to do it in some cases with sin offerings -

Lev 10:16
16 But Moses searched carefully for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned! So he was angry with Aaron’s surviving sons Eleazar and Ithamar, saying, 17 “Why did you not eat the sin offering at the holy place? For it is most holy, and He gave it to you to take away the guilt of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the Lord. 18 Behold, since its blood had not been brought inside, into the sanctuary, you certainly should have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I commanded!”

the issue with "no meat' was a gentile one. Pagan gentiles newly turned to Christianity were afraid of meat that may have been offered to idols. Paul calls them "weak" but is also careful not to offend them

====================

1 Cor 8
4 Therefore, concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, 6 yet for us there is only one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

7 However, not all people have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 Now food will not bring us close to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat. 9 But take care that this freedom of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if someone sees you, the one who has knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will his conscience, if he is weak, not be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols? 11 For through your knowledge the one who is weak is ruined, the brother or sister for whose sake Christ died. 12 And so, by sinning against the brothers and sisters and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to sin.

It is a thing for sure - I have been to certain restaurants and homes of Hindu friends - it is "a thing".

Acts 15 says this
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials: 29 that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from acts of sexual immorality; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell.”

Unless you kill the animal yourself, there's no way for you to know for sure whether or not an animal has been sacrificed to idols, prayed over or offered to a false god. Which begs the question... Is it just crazy talk or conspiracy theory to think that Satan has a system in place to feed defiled meat to the masses without their knowledge? I'm not saying it's true, I'm just throwing it out there. If, in fact, it were true, or there was a possibility of it being true, would that be enough to stop Christians from eating meat?

Abstaining from meats unto idols and fornication is shown in Acts in respects to the Gentiles here

Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

Acts 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

The eating things sacrficed unto idols is memtioned by Jesus in Revelation here (along with fornication) again here

Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Whereas Paul seems to be addressing these concerns here

1Cr 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.....

He downplays that an idol is anything at all (and that there is no other God but one (I cut it there) because it talked elsewhere how had winked at peoples ignorance in times past concerning idolatry (In Acts 17:30) but was calling all men to repent of these sorts of things and Paul speaks of those not having this knowledge and some still have a conscience of the idol unto that hour in Pauls present time

1Cr 8: 7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol ((((unto this hour)))) eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

Paul does at least bring in "unto this hour" just as it speaks elsewhere of His sprinkling them with clean water and cleansing them from their idols (speaking to the conscience). They were still were deemed as necessary by the Holy Ghost in Acts 15:28 because of these current practices.

In Chapter 10 even Paul says this

1Cr 10:25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:

1Cr 10:27 If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.

Dont ask dont tell policy ^_^

1Cr 10:28 But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

1Cr 10:29 Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

And not your own conscience but of the other, in both cases (whether in an idols temple) or at a feast it speaks of the conscience of the other (not yours) who knows better that idols are nothing and dont raise those sorts of questions, but how peoples consciences will judge your freedom.

Just buy take out, dont risk it ^_^

That sounds good to me

My husband just hits the grocery store, once and awhile he will hit the butcher but thats quite aways from us. We were thinking of buying a half a cow, cut down trips to the store.

Or just shoot squirrels at the bird feeder and try something new, I never tried squirrel.

You might also try rat. I had it in VietNam and it was delicious. Friends tell me that squirrel is similar as they are both in the rodent family. If you do try rat don't get them from the city because you don't know what they have been eating. The ones we ate were from the rice fields and were free range, as they say. BTW, although my friend there is not a Christian he never offered any of the meat we ate to any idols. That is not their culture, although on the Lunar New Year they kill a fresh rooster and prepare it as the main dish for a banquet for their ancestors. They allow the ancestors about an hour to dine and then collect the leftovers and eat them. The ancestors have amazingly light appetites. If some of the food does get eaten during the ancestors' banquet then they know they have a serious vermin problem. The Vietnamese people are very pragmatic folks.

Thats too funny! ^_^^_^^_^

Thats a great idea to take up free ranging rats for consumption. I'll try anything once (except bugs) but I did post some bug eating videos in another forum. I just won't be able to get past the "crunch and crackling" of the exoskeleton. I'll have to stick with making earth worm jerky, people are really creative.

I gotta get me a good Venezuelan cook book since our way of eating will be very likely be changing in the not too distant future.^_^

Hope you are doing well bbbbbbb. Good to see you after so many years:groupray:
