CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Candlelight illuminated St. Peter’s Basilica during the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday where Pope Francis’ homily, read on his behalf, proclaimed the resurrection of Christ as “the definitive turning point in human history.”
“It falls to us to proclaim this Easter hope, this ‘turning point’ where darkness becomes light,” the pope wrote in the homily, delivered by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, dean of the College of Cardinals.
“The risen Christ … is the hope that does not fade. He is the love that accompanies us and sustains us,” he said. “He is the future of history, the ultimate destination towards which we walk, to be welcomed into that new life in which the Lord himself will wipe away all our tears and ‘death, mourning and crying and pain will be no more.’”

Alex the Great, a therapy bunny

This was a fun news article that fits into springtime.
There is a video in the article of of him driving his miniature truck. He is a handsome fellow.
Alex The Great is a 4-year-old, 28-pound rabbit from San Francisco who has built fame as a spokesrabbit for pet products — as well as an in-demand therapy bunny. He is highly recognizable as he travels in an adapted miniature Mercedes truck that he can control with his foot. His other ride is his stroller with colorful LED lights on the front that spell out his name.

Those feelings are natural to feel when being mistreated.
But to harbor those feelings in our heart, or act negatively on those feelings, would be sin.
(And frankly, harboring feelings of hatred in our heart makes us more spiritually susceptible to the attacks of the enemy.)
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells us to love (agape) our enemies. Agape love is the highest form of love.
From the Catholic Dictionary:
AGAPE
The most distinctively Christian form of love. Used by Christ to describe the love among the persons of the Trinity, it is also the love He commanded His followers to have for one another (John 13:34-35). It is totally selfless love, which seeks not one's own advantage but only to benefit or share with another.
How do we do this Divine kind of love towards someone who is hurting us?
We do it by surrendering our lives to God, and asking Him to do it.
Something I try to remember:
When God commands us to do something, He does so intending to provide the supernatural ability to obey Him.
... But first, we do need to surrender our lives to Him, so that He can freely work thru us to accomplish His purposes.
Please note: I do not advise for anyone to stay in an abusive, destructive situation. But if/when there appears to be 'no way out' for the moment, then surrender to God and trust in Him is the way 'through' it.

As Easter approaches, the question of how to pick a Confirmation saint comes up often in our work. How does one go about selecting a saint to formally identify with? For some, the nervousness over picking a Confirmation saint can come from not knowing much about the saints; for others who know a lot about saints, the difficulty can come from narrowing the choice down to a single person! And there are often lots of questions about the purpose of picking a saint, and what it means. Practically speaking, the name of the saint you pick will be pronounced over you when you are confirmed. But in the long term, that saint is meant to be a heavenly friend and mentor; someone you can look to for a holy example, and ask for prayer along the way.

Maybe we should call it Great and Good and Holy Friday
I’ve variously seen it called among the Orthodox Holy Saturday and also Great and Holy Saturday (since some refer to every day in Holy Week as Great and Holy, which works for me), and of course it was historically called, and is referred to still be some Anglicans, as Easter Even. The Copts call today Bright Saturday, but for the Eastern Orthodox Bright Saturday refers to next Saturday, the Saturday before Antipascha (also known as St. Thomas Sunday or in the West, as Low Sunday, I like to joke perhaps because of the low church attendance typical on the Sunday following Easter, but in the East Antipascha is still a big deal because it is on that day the Scripture of the interaction of St. Thomas with our Lord is read, as in the West, but that’s particularly important in terms of confirmation of the event. Also in both East and West, red vestments occasionally appear on Antipascha, except among some Slavonic churches where they are de rigeur throughout the Pentecostarion (Eastertide).
Everything said in this post about the Eastern Orthodox also applies to the Byzantine Rite Catholics.

The Mystery of Holy Saturday tells us is that God himself marched through the gate of death, releasing us from a state of bondage we were never created to have to endure.
What is faith? Is there a sentence around somewhere that will summarize it for us? That was the question a young German priest and professor by the name of Joseph Ratzinger put to his students back in the summer of 1967. The result was a series of lectures that became Introduction To Christianity, a work so captivating that on the strength of its argument a future saint by the name of Pope Paul VI practically made him a bishop on the spot, setting in motion a series of elevations that would eventuate in his becoming pope.
While I can’t speak for others about the impact the book had on their lives, I will say that it certainly produced a great sea change in my own. It moved me to take up the serious study of Catholic theology, which, for all the money I have not made doing it, has nevertheless brought me no end of enrichment and joy. What was it that so endeared me to the book, and to its author? Oddly enough, it was single section, consisting of only eight pages, in which he describes the event of Christ’s Descent into Hell, arguably the deepest and darkest mystery of faith, located right at the heart of the Creed.

Register Radio host Matthew Bunson, vice president and editorial director of EWTN News, was recently joined by Dominican Sister Mary Madeline Todd, of the Congregation of St. Cecilia, who serves as assistant professor of theology at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tennessee, to discuss the print feature in the April 6, 2025, issue of the Register and featured online here.
“We chose some of the artwork of the notable French artist Jacques Tissot, who died in 1902, and his extraordinary collection of paintings on ‘The Life of Christ.’ He was known for his paintings of European high society, especially during the latter part of the 19th century.
However, in 1885, he experienced a very profound religious conversion at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris — inspiring him to focus his work on the sacred, notably the life of Christ,” Bunson explained of the Register’s coverage. “His series of more than 350 illustrations were bought by the Brooklyn Museum in 1900.”

Migrant Crossings Through Panama’s Darien Gap Have Fallen by 99 Percent Since Trump Took Office

The number of migrants crossing the Darien Gap had already fallen from 37,166 in February 2024 to 4,849 in December 2024. An 87% drop in crossings during the Biden administration. So from February 2024 through February of 2025, less than 13% of the 99% drop in migrant crossings occurred since Trump became president.
