CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a memorandum this week laying out several directives by which the U.S. Department of Justice aims to enact President Donald Trump's executive order protecting children from chemical castration and surgical mutilation.
"Pursuant to the President's directive, I am issuing the following guidance to all Department of Justice employees to enforce rigorous protections and hold accountable those who prey on vulnerable children and their parents," Bondi wrote in the memo titled "Preventing the Mutilation of American Children."
The memo went on to direct the enforcement of "laws outlawing female genital mutilation" and the investigation of "violations of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and False Claims Act" regarding the long-term side effects of chemical and surgical mutilations.

At least where I am.
“Where I am” is the lobby of the Vatican press office, which seems to be struggling a bit under the sheer volume of journalists trying to collect their accreditation.
It is a delightfully simple system. A modest-sized folding table with several hundred passes laid out in a rough approximation of alphabetical order, which a cleric in a brown leather jacket sifts through balefully, asking you to stop if you see your name. Eventually, someone loses patience and cuts the line to start rifling through the cards themselves and then Babel breaks loose before order’s resemblance is restored.

But not so many popes ago, such an announcement by an American president would have been unthinkable. For most of its history, the U.S. government sent no one to the funeral of the bishop of Rome.
In 1867, after decades of a formal U.S. presence in Rome, Congress voted to cut off funding for a diplomatic delegation to the Holy See, at a time when anti-Catholic sentiment was running high in the United States.

“Conclave” was a surprise hit upon its theatrical release last October. And following the April 21 death of Pope Francis, the film, now on streaming platforms, has attracted a new wave of interest from viewers, with streaming rates of the film reportedly tripling in the days since the pope’s death was announced.
Directed by Edward Berger and based on a 2016 novel, the film is a character-driven story focusing on several of the Church’s cardinals as they elect a new pope — with plenty of political jockeying and intrigue, ideological clashes, and dramatic turns throughout. The film garnered eight Academy Award nominations this spring, winning one for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Even before its release, “Conclave” garnered heavy criticism from Catholics who decried the film’s twist ending — which, spoiler alert, sees a biological woman inadvertently elected pope — as well as the film’s depiction of the various ideologies of the cardinals, especially the obvious lionization of characters who espouse views contrary to the Church’s teaching.
Beyond those criticisms, anyone using the film to educate themselves on how the actual conclave process will work in the coming weeks will find that the film contains a couple of key inaccuracies — but not everything in the film is fiction.

Pope Francis’ tomb is made of Ligurian (Italian) marble with the sole inscription “FRANCISCUS” and a reproduction of his pectoral cross, according to new details released by the Vatican.
The burial place is located in the niche of the side aisle, between the Pauline Chapel (Chapel of Our Lady of Health of the Roman People) and the Sforza Chapel in St. Mary Major Basilica. It is also located near the altar dedicated to St. Francis.
Work to receive Pope Francis’ coffin began a few days ago, fulfilling the pontiff’s wish for a simple burial in this church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Court sides with parents, says Scottish schools can't have all gender-neutral bathrooms

Scottish schools have been ordered to provide gender-segregated toilets following a case brought by concerned parents against Scottish Borders Council (SBC).
The recently opened Earlston Primary School in the Scottish Borders only included gender-neutral toilets on the premises.
An initial complaint by Sean Stratford and Leigh Hurley, whose son was formerly a student there, was rejected.

In a rare victory for Israel in the international arena, the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Appeals Chamber unanimously ordered a lower chamber to re-examine Israel’s arguments disputing the court’s jurisdiction over the country.
Last November, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant “for crimes against humanity and war crimes” allegedly committed during the Gaza War.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar praised the ICC's decision: “We said it from the start: The International Criminal Court in The Hague (ICC) doesn't have, and never had jurisdiction to issue arrest warrants against Israel's Prime Minister and its former Minister of Defense.”

On the eve of the funeral Mass for Pope Francis, the coffin in which his body was placed immediately after his death will be sealed shut during a special ceremony held in the Vatican Basilica, known in Latin as De capsæ obseratione. Before the Funeral Mass takes place on Saturday morning, the cardinal-camerlengo will come to St. Peter’s on Friday night with representatives of the various ranks of the College of Cardinals (cardinal-bishop, cardinal-priest, and cardinal-deacon) and certain other dignitaries from Vatican City State, including the Vatican’s own canons and confessors, and the late pope’s relatives. The camerlengo will preside over the ceremony, which has three particularly noteworthy elements: the reading of a Rogito or deed of the deceased pope’s life and work, the placing of a purse of coins struck during the years of his pontificate into the coffin and the veiling of the face of the deceased pontiff.
