DETROIT (OSV News) — It was a project a long time in the making, but motorists driving into downtown Detroit on Gratiot Avenue might notice a new mural in Eastern Market that pays tribute to St. Joseph the Worker.

The building-size mural of St. Joseph, working as a carpenter with a market in the background, is the newest addition of a series of murals that mark Detroit’s Eastern Market, one of the largest farmers markets in the Midwest.

The mural is the product of a four-year, $20,000 campaign by parishioners from nearby St. Joseph Shrine, who wanted to commission a mural of their patron saint to tie the parish to the surrounding community.

“Eastern Market has for decades now been a cultural center of the city, known for its street art and murals,” said Daniel Egan, the St. Joseph Shrine parishioner who first envisioned and organized the mural effort.

Biblically speaking, what is the “confession of our hope”? It is not just a verbal profession of faith in Jesus. For what does it teach us in 1 John 1-3?


So, faith in Jesus Christ is not lip service only. By God-persuaded and God-gifted and God-honoring faith in Jesus Christ we must die with Christ to sin and walk with him in surrender to his will and purpose for our lives, in walks of obedience to his commands, by the Spirit, in the power of God, in practice. Then, as those who, by faith in Jesus, have died with him to sin, who are daily putting sin to death in our lives, by the Spirit, and who are walking in obedience to his commands, in practice, in the power of God, we are to be encouraging one another in our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord in doing the will of God he has for our lives. This is the purpose of our gatherings, as the body of Christ, which includes exhortations against being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin and against falling for the devil’s traps.

For, as the body of Christ, when we gather together on any days of the week, at any time of day or night, in any appropriate location, we are all to have a part. The Spirit has gifted us all with spiritual gifts which we are to be using to minister to the rest of the body of Christ. And God has assigned each one of us specific roles (body parts, ministries) within the body of Christ which we are to be walking in, by the Spirit, for the encouragement and betterment of the body of Christ in our spiritual walks of faith in Christ.

And we are to be speaking the truth, in love, one to the other, and we are to be exposing and refuting the lies of the enemy which are coming against the truth. We are to be warning against the cunning and craftiness of some people in their deceitful schemes, so that none of us falls prey to falling for false gospels, not of God. We are to be stirring up one another to love and good works, and addressing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and teaching and admonishing one another in the wisdom of God.

We should not gather together just to listen to a praise band play and sing and to listen to one or more preachers preach a sermon, which may or may not be of God under the leading of the Holy Spirit. For all of us are to be ministers of Christ and of his gospel, and as the body of Christ we all have a part in ministering to the body of Christ. And we will grow together to maturity in our walks of faith in Christ when each part does its work. We all have something to contribute, if we are walking in obedience to our Lord.

Nonetheless, within the gatherings of the church there must be men of God who fulfill the biblical requirements of overseer (elder, deacon, pastor) who are spiritually preparing the people for the work of the ministry, and who are providing opportunities for them, within the gatherings, to use their spiritual gifts in their assigned (by God) body parts. Women are not to be in authority over men, though, unless there are not any biblically qualified men to fill the position. But God’s sons and daughters will prophesy (preach, proclaim the word of the Lord), so we should let the qualified minister in their gifts.

I post on all kinds of timely subjects, illegal immigrants are in the national spotlight. The establishment (including the major media) actively makes an effort to downplay the illegal violent crime, referring to a "dad" rather than a human trafficker or wife beater. The Democrats often would not track crimes by illegals, thus they can take the reported crime by illegals (a fraction of what occurs) and claim illegals commit less crimes than the rest of the population. Their base seems to be easily misled. But enough finally realized at least some of the truth and thus Trump was elected.

Elon Musk has fathered fourteen children with four women, none of whom he married. It is relevant to consider what the New Testament might say about this situation. Notably, this behavior is receiving considerable cultural attention among conservatives. This suggests that some modern conservatives, who claim to follow the teachings of Jesus, may be diverging from Jesus’s teachings in favor of Elon Musk's worldview. This shift is indeed unfortunate.

I've been contemplating this subject a lot lately. Pertinent to your observations, I believe, is one very profound sentence in Scripture:

"And there shall be no more curse..."

What staggering implications! In God's Heavenly Kingdom:

New bodies that never decay - no threat of disease or malfunction. No warranties necessary - built to operate at prime efficiency forever. Perfect health always - boggles the mind!

Speaking of which - minds that can ponder and reason and learn and create and contemplate *anything* without having to be on guard anymore to take any thought captive - let 'em run free!

Souls (as you say) incorruptible - in which there will be no sin - nor will there be any sin or temptation surrounding us to threaten - as we are not only united to the Father and the Lamb in our being (a reality now in our spirit beings) - but also by virtue that we will be eternally in His very presence - on His throne- in ALL of His glory!

Perfect unity amongst the family of God - loving each other without reservation.

No enemy present - period. The war is over.

Surrounded by a creation that likewise is no longer subject to death and decay: flowers and leaves that don't eventually wither, mold doesn't strangle, animals no longer prone to disease or presumably predation, pure water never bittered by bacteria... a creation that no longer groans because the sons of God have been revealed.

Everything we do or say will be an act of worship to our God. Everything.

It's endless, isn't it? Truly impossible to imagine. Bring it on!

Most Christians KNOW this, but do they believe and live it?

I wonder, because I’ve seen one Christ Follower after another fight tooth and nail to stay in this foreign land REGARDLESS of their quality of life!

Me . . . I’m looking forward to The Kingdom! I don’t have a ‘death wish’ but I also, at 71, will not do chemo or radiation in the event I get cancer!

I MAY try holistic depending on the circumstances, but just keep me as comfortable as possible and honor the DNR!

Unfortunately for you, Jesus disagrees with you. . .he is my authority.

Jesus believed the OT was the "word of God" in every detail (Jn 10:35, Lk 11:28, 5:1),
that it was the truth of God vested with the authority of God and backed by the power of God (Mt 5:17-19).
He treated arguments from Scripture as having clinching force. When he said, "It is written," that was final. There was no appeal against Scripture, for "the scripture cannot be broken." (Mt 4:5, Mt 4:7, Mt 4:10, Jn 10:35). God's word holds good forever.
He constantly scolded the Jews for their ignorance and neglect of Scripture: "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures?". . ."Have you not read. . .?". . ."Go and learn what this means. . ." (Mk 12:24, Mt 12:3, Mt 12:5, Mt 19:4, Mt 21:16, Mt 21:42,
Mt 9:13).

Likewise, Jesus himself submitted to the OT as the word of God:
he lived a life of obedience to Scripture (Lk 4:17-21, Mt 8:16-17, Mt 11:2-5),
and then he died in obedience to Scripture (Lk 18:31, Mk 8:31, Mk 9:31, Mk 10:33-34, Mt 26:24, Lk 22:37, Mt 26:53-56),
when he arose, he explained who he was by the Scriptures (Lk 24:44-47, Lk 24:27),
he presented himself to the Jews as the fulfiller of Scripture (Jn 5:39-40, Jn 5:46-47).

Belief in the authority and truth of the OT as the word of God was the foundation of Jesus' whole ministry.

And it is that word of God which presents eternal life. . .it's your choice at your own peril to believe it or not.

There are preachers, and there are preachers. Some of them are genuine in terms of preaching the Word of God and the Word of God through Jesus, and some are just in it for their own personal gain with no benefit to those who have congregated to listen to him, followed by paying exorbitant dues or passing the plate around.

Consider this Verse in the Bible: “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith...” Some may think this passage is found in the New Testament. They may believe that those who go to church take a risk in not hearing what the true Word of God is. For that reason, those who may believe this will tell us there’s no need for churches if our faith in God is strong. But how do you get there if your knowledge of God is limited to begin with? It is in a church, with an upstanding preacher, that people can learn through the sermons what God expects from us. You cannot see the light if you’re not focused on the right direction in which to look.

As for the above Verse, it is found not in the NT; it is in the OT, namely Habakkuk 2:4. So, deception has been found not just in those who preach in church, it was found in those who are prominent in the synagogues.

There are passages in the NT that addresses renegade preachers and the like. Jesus in Mark 12:38–40 says, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” Talk about puffed-up souls!

Of course there are other ways of learning to have faith in God. People who live in developed countries can easily get hold of a Bible and start to read it. At first glance there may seem to be ambiguities and Passages that go unexplained. But consider that the words in the Bible, particularly in the NT, that were spoken to the people on the Mount. If they, most of whom did not get fancy educations, could understand those words enough to be followers of Jesus, how much more difficult can it be for people who read the Bible today, to understand it?

On the other hand, a place of worship with an upright preacher can be useful in providing feedback amongst socializations among people in the congregation, for those who want feedback of their understanding of having faith in God through Jesus and applying it.

7. THE GIFT OF PROPHESYING

A. DEFINITION - The gift of prophesying is inspirational utterance in a known language which the one giving the utterance and the audience understands. The Hebrew word for prophecy means: "To flow forth or to spring forth." It also carries the same thought of bubbling forth like a fountain, or “To tumble forth." The Greek word for prophecy means to "speak for another." The term “prophecy” here can be easily misunderstood since it is used both generically in our bible as well as specifically. The definition provided here is for the “specific” gift of prophesying.

B. APPLICATION - The utterance of this gift can be discerned from three possible spiritual sources through a believer:

1) The Holy Spirit - The corporate ministry gift of prophesying is uttered by The Holy Spirit unto the assembly, and will always come in the limited framework of “Edification, Encouragement, and Comfort” as defined in 1Cor 14:3. These three attributes of this ministry will always be contained together in a message from The Holy Spirit, the crowning achievement being the Holy Spirit’s peace and comfort with the message. It is always given in the spirit of love to edify the assembly rather than condemn or tear it down. The message can be poetic, and elevated beyond the natural gift of speech, having a tangible Spiritual edification on the inside of the believer’s spirit during the message.

2) The human spirit - Prophesying that is uttered from the human spirit in the assembly is unable to edify and minister unto our spirit on the inside since it does not originate from The Holy Spirit. It can possibly be negative and critical, but mostly just dry of spiritual edification. It can also be presented in the form of a lie like a false sense of security or peace, as was depicted in the 28th Chapter of Jeremiah, where Hananiah the Prophet of GOD spoke peace and was condemned by Jeremiah the Prophet for falsely attributing his words as GOD’s words. The LORD judged his false words as teaching rebellion unto the people against The LORD, and condemned and killed His own Prophet.

3) evil spirit(s) - Prophesying that is uttered by an evil spirit(s) is subtle, deceptive, manipulative, and the opposite to the character and nature of GOD. It tries to manipulate individuals/churches to make hasty decisions, thereby causing wrong choices that take people or the church out of the will of GOD. It will be tangibly felt as a wrong check by The Holy Spirit inside of our spirit when it is being spoken. A biblical example of this can be seen in the 2nd chapter of Jeremiah where GOD says His prophets “prophesied by Baal” instead of by His Spirit.

C. METHODS - This gift can be manifested in 2 ways through a believer:

1) Corporately - The gift is yielded to The Holy Spirit’s promptings, and operated by His utterance in human languages unto the assembly in a designated ministry. The message will be limited to “Edification, Exhortation, and Comfort” just as Paul defined in 1st Corinthians.

The gift can also be used corporately to an individual. The Encouragement portion of the gift can be used by The Holy Spirit to confirm to a believer what was already revealed to them by The Holy Spirit beforehand, and establish and strengthen their walk with Jesus. This is done before the assembly and judged by the assembly.

2) Personally - This gift can be stepped out in personal faith and operated by the believer’s human spirit for personal edification similar to the gift of tongues. This personal use of the gift by our human spirit can sometimes be wrongly operated in the assembly by a young or misguided believer, and cause much grief and division in the body of Christ, since normally the message is expected to be inspired from The Holy Spirit when uttered in the assembly. It can be one of the most abused gifts of the nine by Spirit-filled believers if it is allowed to be used wrongfully in this sort of manner.

They are all His. Division is between this world and the Kingdom, not between nations

The New Evangelisation has been a complete non-event, so I have no idea what planet Goh is on.

PF's death was anything but a "shock". 88 is a very respectable age, and it would have been astonishing if he had lasted much longer. Old men die, whether they are Popes or not. The only question was whether he would be as long-lived as a his predecessor.

It could lead to despair, if we are not aware of the hope we have with God's power with God caring and working for us. Still hope would be misplaced if we do not care for seeking and doing God's will, where it is possible for us, in Christ.

The context of the book of Hebrews was mainly, I believe, to help the Hebrew Christians to transition from the Old Covenant God had with his people Israel (Jews only) to the New Covenant God has with his people Israel (Jew and Gentile by faith in Jesus Christ), his church, his body. Under the Old Covenant they went to a physical temple where there were priests who interceded for them, where only the high priest, once a year, I believe, could enter into God’s holy presence in the Holy of Holies, behind a curtain.

But in Jesus’ death on that cross, that curtain that stood between God and humans was torn in two, representing that, by way of the cross, and by faith in Jesus Christ, we who believe in Jesus with God-honoring and God-gifted and God-persuaded faith in him can now enter into the presence of God without having to go through a human priest. Jesus Christ is now our great high priest over the house of God, which is no longer a physical building, but a spiritual building with us as the living stones and Jesus as the cornerstone.

Therefore, we are to be those who, by faith in Christ, approach God with sincere hearts in full assurance of faith. And this faith comes from God, it is authored by Jesus Christ (God), it is gifted to us by God, it is not of our own doing, but it is persuaded of God as to his righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to die with Christ to sin and to walk with him in submission to his will, in obedience to his commands. So, by faith, we die to sin and we now walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands.

And if we hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, this is not about just making a verbal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and then assuring ourselves that we are now children of God, born of the Spirit, forgiven of our sins, with heaven guaranteed us when we die. For we are saved out of our slavery (bondage, addiction) to sin so that we will now follow our Lord in obedience. But if sin is our practice, and not obedience to God, we do not have salvation from sin and we will not inherit eternal life.

Yes, God is faithful to all his promises. But all of his promises have conditions which we must adhere to in order to be able to claim those promises for ourselves. And among those conditions are many “IF” clauses, like if we do this or that, then this is true. So if we die with Christ to sin, not just once, but in daily practice, and if we follow him in obedience to his commands, in practice, then we have the promise of salvation and eternal life with God. But if sin is our practice and not obedience, it’s a no go.

examples of the current president making promises that were unbelievable. I would
assert that if Christians would read from a broad number of news sources, THEN it is
impossible to miss the dozens of examples in which the current president has made
promises/claims, that cannot be believed.

Two Christian organizations have asked a federal court to rule against former Equal Employment Opportunity Commission member Jocelyn Samuels, a Democrat who is suing after being fired by President Donald Trump, arguing that her support for employment gender identity and abortion mandates violated their religious freedom.

On Thursday, the Christian Employers Alliance and Choices Pregnancy Centers of Greater Phoenix, Inc. filed a motion to intervene in Samuel's reinstatement suit. They are being represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom.

"The Court should not assess Samuels' removal's validity without hearing from the very employers that the removal seeks to protect," the brief says.
