Addictions

Addictions and compulsive behaviors: Alcohol, drugs, pornography, masturbation, lust, fornication, gambling, gluttony, lying, procrastination, evil video games, homosexuality, bisexual, lesbian, etc.

Do these weaknesses prevent you from being born of the Spirit?

No. The LORD looks at the heart.

Do most Christians struggle with porn?

I think so, The Gospel Coalition:

Once you have been born of the Spirit, will you be free from these addictions?

Yes, in some cases, but not in every case. This world is a testing ground.

What should you do?

  1. Admit that there is sin involved.
  2. Pray for deliverance.
  3. When you sin, confess it to God.
  4. Confess it with a mature Christian whom you trust. You are accountable to him. Choose someone from your local area whom you can meet face-to-face.
  5. Join a church support group if available.
What should you not do?

  1. Don't tell your conscience that it is okay to practice this sin.
  2. Don't plan to sin and confess later.
  3. Don't condemn yourself even if you had planned to sin.
Focus on the grace of God (2 Corinthians 12:9). Have a humble repentant attitude. Addiction impacts the brain on many levels. It may take many years before you are completely free from it. Hopefully, you will experience improvement yearly (Romans 7:15-19). In the meantime, practice How to get closer to God and grow in faith.
Ooh, I made a post on this very topic. But yes, we must try to avoid our vices, as stated in Ephesians 5:15-21.

Ephesians 5:15-21 (ESV): "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ."

To avoid addictions, Christians are called to "be filled with the Spirit" and to seek God's guidance and wisdom in all areas of their lives. This may involve setting boundaries around our use of technology, media, and relationships, as well as seeking out supportive communities and accountability partners. Ultimately, the goal is to use our time and energy in ways that honor God and bring life and joy to ourselves and others.

Are you standing with The Chosen One?

I think this is much better
View attachment 350264

(Context: Eberhard Bethge was a student, close friend and confidant of Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer; after Bonhoeffer's death in a Nazi prison camp, it was due to the tireless work of Bethge that the world came to learn Bonhoeffer's writings, including his seminal work Cost of Discipleship; Bonhoeffer's life, work, and legacy is due to Bethge refusing to let Bonhoeffer's name and memory die in a Nazi prison camp).

I first read the following passage back in 2006, and it has been stuck in my mind ever since. And I am constantly, consistently reminded of it and the warning it contains.

"While the Bethges loved being in New York, they also appreciated the generosity and hospitality of many other smaller centres around the country. One such place was Lynchburg College in Virginia, where they were both honoured with doctorates. Staying in Lynchburg, the headquarters of Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell, also provided an opportunity for them to experience the heartbeat of American fundamentalism. The Bethges were particularly bothered by what they experienced when they visited Falwell's church because so much that was referred to as "American Christianity'" reminded them of aspects of the German Christianity of the 1930s. Eberhard later wrote,

'As we entered the foyer, an usher stepped forward and gave me two badges to fasten to my lapel: the one on the left said, Jesus First and on the right, one with an American flag ... I could not help but think myself in Germany in 1933 . . . Of course, Christ, but a German Christ; of course, "Jesus First", but an American Jesus! And so to the long history of faith and its executors another chapter is being added of a mixed image of Christ, of another syncretism on the American model, undisturbed by any knowledge of that centuries-long and sad history. ' Bethge added some remarks that have an uncanny contemporary ring to them: 'The disturbing fact is this new element, the battle for a "Christian nation" against humanism. The flag has always been in the churches, but now it has come to represent the new threat of binding the political structure to an ideology, which models a whole new educational system, and a new kind of representation in Washington, and a newly interpreted Constitution.'

For Bethge, who had a great love for the United States and the democratic vision of its Founding Fathers, and who enjoyed visiting there, these signs were disturbing. He could only hope that they would not develop along the lines he feared they might.

The Saints, Lovers Of Truth

John's teaching here begins with the spirit of truth, and we should also...

2 John 1:2 For the truth's sake, which abides in us, and shall be with us forever.

The spirit of truth gives us the power to discern the love found in Christ alone

1 John 4:6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us.
By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Jesus identifies the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth

John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth;
for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak;
and He will tell you things to come.

The Spirit of truth turns those who continue walking in error away from us.
They cannot abide in truth.

1 John 2:
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us,
they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made
manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it,
and that no lie is of the truth.

Those who love the truth will abide in fellowship, so that we can love each other as we have been loved.
The love of the truth removes the burden from God's commandments.
The character of those who reject the gospel testifies to the spirit of truth or error.
Grace and truth enable the human heart to receive the Love of God.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Once received, we still must obey the command to "love each other,
even as I have loved you".

Sharing love, how could that ever be grievous?
Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Who is our neighbor? James3:9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.

What about James 2? yeah James 2:10...

James 2:10 "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." James 2 works salvationist love parroting James 2:14-26 but they never talk about James 2:10. If they are correct an James 2 is about works salvation then they better keep the entire law perfectly! otherwise they break all of it. the reality is James 2 is about having a profitable faith before men, not before God. works justify us before men, not God. Man can only see your works, so if you have no works, your faith is not profitable to others, it is dead. but it still exists and will save you if you trust in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation, Jesus paid it all to be saved.

Titus 3:5-8 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

See how there is a distinction between being saved (faith alone, vs. doing works that are profitable unto man)

Romans 4:2-8 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

see that Romans 4 clearly tells us that Abraham was justified by works before man, when he offered Isaac on the alter, and he hath whereof to glory before man, but not before God. Don't let James 2ers take 14-26 out of context to teach a false gospel. there are dozens of verses saying salvation is faith alone without any works. Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

This why you read cover to cover and do not let people fool you or hit you with these verses that are ripped out of context. trust the clear promises that God has made, like John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
True righteousness doesn't come from the law, but from God on the basis of faith (Phil 3:9). And as we're given that gift of righteousness, we're enjoined to act upon it, to walk by the Spirit, under grace, IOW.

Man is still obligated to be righteous under the New Covenant, but not based on the law which is only a reflection of and a testimony to righteousness, an external show of it at best. God wants the real thing for and from us and only He can give that to us. Then, in union with Him, we perform works such as those mentioned in Eph 2:10 or the works done by the sheep for the least of these in Matthew 25 or obeying the commandments as per Matt 19:17 or Rom 13:10 or just doing good as per Rom 2:7. These are works of love, not of the law.

The only thing that counts is faith working through love. Gal 5:16

The 2020 presidential election , a different perspective.

Right, more into reality......

With their 72 genders
And their realistic view of the world we live in. Good job. I think you're starting to get it and what in the world is 72 genders? That's really weird. I think there are only two and another group that believes they are "gender fluid" but where do 72 genders come from? Are you ok? Do you need help?

Judges 13:2-15 and Luke 13:1-14:35 (HafTarah and Brit HaDasha for "Nasso"

JUDGES 13:2-25

The story of Shimshon (Samson) starts here, full of promise, but Samson chooses the flesh and not the spirit. He was a Nazarite who broke all the Nazarite vows and, in the end, lost his sight and his physical strength, yet, Adonai still used him to take vengeance upon the Philistines.

We see a God of mercy who showed mercy again unto this wayward judge, returned to him his strength, punished the Philistines, and then took him home to glory. Perhaps he would have lived many more years had he honored his Nazarite vows, and had honored God. When we look at our own lives, are we bent more toward the flesh or toward the Spirit?

I think that there are many "Samsons" today, members of God's family. They have been chosen for a certain role, yet they look at the world and get involved in the things of the world instead of keeping their eyes on God and His WORD. Yes, God still loves them, but according to how they sow, they will also reap.

The enemy captured Samson, using a deceitful woman who gave him a "close shave." He ended up in chains yet brought down the Temple of Dagon killing more enemies of Israel than in his whole life. Carnal believers can end up in spiritual chains by the enemy when they wander away from God's will for their lives. Spiritual chains might be depression, loss of joy, feelings of guilt, anger, etc...Maybe I'm speaking to some of you who are reading this right now. Yet we can return to the LORD. God showed mercy to Samson, and gave him back his strength which brought the "House Down"
The LORD can bring us back to our "first love" if we so desire it.

We don't hear of believers taking a Nazarite vow today. Yet one can choose to serve wholeheartedly the LORD with all that he or she has. Now, if the believer wishes to abstain from wine, grapes, etc..like the Nazarites did in the past, that is an individual decision. Whatever the decision, the believer should be faithful in serving the LORD.

There is a difference between a "Nazarite" and a "Nazarene" A Nazarene is someone from the town of Nazareth. Like Yeshua, who was known as a "Notzri" (Nazarene) even though he was born in "Beit-Lechem" (Bethlehem) he was raised in Nazareth. It is interesting that "Christians" were known as "Notzrim" (those who follow the Nazarene) The word "Nazareth" or "Natz'rat" comes from "Netzer" (Branch) (Isaiah 11:1)

LUKE 13:1-14:35

We do not know when this particular fig tree in this story was planted, but, according to the keeper of the fig tree, it should have started producing fruit three years prior. Yet the keeper of the vineyard told the owner, “Let’s use some fertilizer, then see what happens” All believers in a way are like fruit trees, we must bear fruit, by sharing, teaching God’s word to others, using our spiritual gifts, yet at times, we might need some “fertilizer” perhaps some more individual study in the WORD, a “pep” talk through a counselor or a pastor/rabbi, or just an encouraging word by another brother or sister in Messiah Yeshua.

Remember, the fruit is our “good works” which the tree produces, and the “fertilizer” can be the understanding and wisdom that comes from studying God’s Word.

All believers need time to grow and mature. One cannot expect to start producing fruit immediately, however, some born-again believers DO start producing fruit very soon. They may start passing out gospel tracts, share their testimony, etc. "Producing fruit" is a life-long commitment. At times, we may not be aware of the "fruit" we are producing until we are ushered into the "World To Come" Then, the LORD will reveal to us that "hidden" fruit.

Don't give up, continue the good work, plant the seed and the SON will shine upon the seed.

Face To Face

Genesis 32:30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel:
“For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

After wrestling with an angel all night, Jacob experiences being “caught up” by the Spirit.
My Life is preserved =Nephesh Natsal.
Nephesh is most frequently translated soul.
Barak YHVH nephesh=Psalm 103. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Natsal is most frequently translated delivered.

Shamar Nephesh Natsal= Psalm 25:20. O keep my soul and deliver me.
Natsal literally means to be snatched up and carried away from danger.

The Lord Our Deliverer gives us this assurance.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father,
who has given them to Me, is greater than all;
and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. John 10

When the scribes translated Genesis 32:30 into Greek in the Septuagint, ‘my life is preserved’
is rendered sozo ego psuche. In apostolic writings, which is translated as‘saved my soul’;
or ‘my life is made whole’.

To come face to face with God is to ‘experience’ salvation and remission from sin.
Luke 1:77 To give ‘knowledge of salvation’ to His people by the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Remission of sin is deliverance from the carnal nature.
O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God,
but with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,
but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. To be carnally minded is death,
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;
for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then,
those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8.

To ‘experience’ the ‘knowledge of salvation’ brings clarity to Romans 7, to enjoy the ‘Spirit of Liberty’
in the remission of sin described in Romans 8.

To come face to face with God is to be enraptured.

I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—
whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—
such a one was caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man—whether in the body or
out of the body, I do not know, God knows— how he was caught up into Paradise and heard
inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 2 Corinthians 12

This being ‘caught up’ in Greek: harpazo; is used to describe the experience of Philip.
Acts 8:39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away,
so the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

And ultimately, by Paul in
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel,
and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and
remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And thus, we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The ultimate personal experience in devotion to the Lord is face to face.
Hebrew: pahneem pahneem; Greek: prosopon pros prosopon.

When there is a prophet I reveal Myself to in a vision; I speak to him in a dream.
Not so with My servant Moses. He is faithful in all My house, I speak with him face to face,
plainly and not in riddles. Numbers 12

Faithful to The House of God

Hebrews 3:5, 6. And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony
of those things which would be spoken, but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house
we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

Come Before His Face=Come into His Presence

Hebrews 4 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.

Growing In Grace from The Glory
1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part, but then I shall know even as also I am known.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed (metamorpho=transfigured) into the same image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

A Friend of God

Exodus 33:11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.

You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants,
for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends,
for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 15

“Hang him on that.”

These verses came to mind from what I am "seeing", yesterday.

Genesis 11:3-7
3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

Sounds like the people who invaded the North American continent.

The Native Americans did not name the land they were in. They had names of their tribes but the Israelis did as well. They lived in tents and always on the move. They didn't have a king as the Israelis used to be before they had kings.

And then the people who conquered their lands used bricks instead of stone. They built cities and skyscrapers that reached to the heavens. They spoke in one language and made a name for themselves (USA).

That's history repeating and the Israelis went through similar periods with the Babylonians and Persians.

Which book of the New Testament would you choose to do a "discipleship" bible study class on?

We are nominating a book to study from chapter to chapter in a new discipleship class in my local church. We can choose any book. Which one would be ideal to pick to focus on discipleship or perhaps covering a range of topics on discipleship?

Bonus question - what is discipleship? Which book is best to learn this from in new testament?
The word 'disciples' appears an approx equal number of time in Matthew and John.
My emphasis is on the "red letter" content of both. I prefer to begin in John for
similar reasons as stated above by others, but especially chapters 13-17,
from the washing of feet, to the bearing of fruit...and particularly the preparation
for receiving the Holy Spirit and the Lord's amazing prayer to His Father. in ch. 17.
Matthew 5-7, also mentioned often above can follow immediately, or
interspersed with John.
Matthew 18 is so critical to understanding the role of the Church in
fulfilling the Gospel, and the apostolic doctrines puts the same
emphasis on fellowship among the brethren beloved, so as to
understand Christ's repeated exhortation "to abide", repeated in 1 John.

Another Biden false claim exposed:

I'd like to see the entire statement. In the quote in the OP article, he says "we were there." "We" could quite reasonably refer to "his administration," in which case, he would be correct. Secretary Buttigieg was onsite the same day.
Matter of semantics and words. That’s all.

Trump Considers Replacing Income Tax with Tariffs

Trump's reported tariff proposal would cause chaos and be a gift to the rich

Adam Hersh, a senior economist with Economic Policy Institute Action, likened the tariff idea “to dropping a nuclear bomb on a hurricane.” It makes no sense and it would be incredibly destructive.

STOP GIVING HIM IDEAS!

As Hersh explained, to make up for the roughly $4.2 trillion in revenue generated through income taxes, the across-the-board tariffs would have to be somewhere around 120% or 130% on incoming goods. In other words, consumers would effectively have to pay an additional sales tax of up to 130% on any imported item. And that’s assuming that demand for imports remains constant. In reality, demand for imported goods would decline, meaning tariffs would need to be even higher to offset the elimination of the income tax.

Wisconsin Republicans block PFAS cleanup until polluters are granted immunity

Maybe I’m dense, why is a job that is subsidized a few million dollars…? bad? (Odd, I cannot find DuPont” at your link), but obviously the company will have to be built form the ground-up, the subsidy goes toward the building of physical areas…if one needs to look at these costs on a “per job” basis, by all means go right ahead.
Government making capitalism easier is a “good thing”, right?
The problem is that not all companies receive subsidies. So that brings us further and further from capitalism because capitalism allows the market to decide not government.

Dupont itself is one of those that seems to be escaping from paying full clean up or health costs. How DuPont may avoid paying to clean up a toxic "forever chemical"

Missing Monarchy

Luciano Anastasi published a review of Missing Monarchy on Medieval History.

“Through a meticulously argued discourse, Smith challenges the prevailing misconceptions and romanticized visions of democracy that dominate contemporary American thought..."Missing Monarchy" is both scholarly and provocative, filled with extensive references to historical sources and modern analyses. Smith's arguments are well-researched and compellingly presented, making the book a significant contribution to political and historical discourse...It is a thoughtful, well-argued, and timely critique of democracy through the lens of historical monarchy, providing a fresh perspective on what governance could look like if informed by the past. The book is recommended for those interested in political theory, history, and critiques of modern governance systems.”
Medieval History – Missing Monarchy: Correcting Misconceptions About The Middle Ages, Medieval Kingship, Democracy, And Liberty

Who raised Jesus from the dead?

According to Paul in Galatians 1:

1 Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead.
According to Jesus in John 2:

19 Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.
Jesus was the man/God divine mystery. The above verses are consistent with the divine mystery expressed in John 10:

30 I and the Father are one.
Romans 8:

11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Acts 5:

30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.
Who raised Christ from the dead?

Father, Son, Spirit, and God. I'd count it part of the divine personal mystery.
