NJ Democratic power broker George Norcross indicted on racketeering charges by NJ Democratic AG

Wow. South Jersey person here. I thought Norcross was unstoppable. I did not expect this.

In response to DaisyDay:

And if Norcross should be convicted, I sincerely doubt there will be leftist riots in the streets on that account.

I think if Norcross is convicted, there will be leftists dancing in the streets.

For readers outside of New Jersey: This is not a Republican-vs-Democrat story, and it's not about the current or former president. This is a story about a powerful unelected person in New Jersey, and how he relates to our state government.

Is lying a sin?

Exodus 20:

Leviticus 19:

Revelation 21:

On the other hand, there were excusable occasions in the Bible.

Midwives lied to Pharaoh in Exodus 1:

Rahab lied in Joshua 2:

Samson lied to Delilah in Judges 16:

Is it always wrong to tell a lie or untruth?

No, it partly depends on your motivation and intent, but let the Paraclete guide you in your conscience. As a rule of thumb, we should tell the truth.

"Is that movie more interesting than me?"

"Wow, she has an amazing figure, doesn't she sweetheart?"
"What's on your mind?"
"How much did you spend on that last motorcycle, truck or car part?"
"This meal is delicious! Can we afford this place?"

5 reactions to the Hunter Biden verdict

Only because of your exposure to misleading and vindictive propaganda--perhaps even some from Russian propagandists who strongly favor a candidate who will leave Ukraine powerless and leave NATO, opening the gateway to Europe for Russia's imperialist invading leader, Putin.

I urge you to listen to the President himself. You will be pleasantly surprised by his command of the facts, his experience and wisdom, and his compassion and kindness--so lacking during the 2017-2020 years.
What is it with your worship of Joe Biden and the democrats? Is the DNC the collective fourth person of the trinity to you?

Proof of Bible story about angels killing 185,000 soldiers in a night is uncovered after 2,700 years

My view of S&G has nothing to do with the nature of the crime (e.g., homosexuality). It's entirely possible that the crime was invented post-hoc to explain why God would flatten S&G in a fiery mess.

Remember this is several centuries BC. There was no explanation for things like meteoric mass destruction or earthquakes so assuming God's involvement was natural. From their point of view, it was obvious that God had something against S&G.

Was S&G a particularly Gay town? Who knows - but, rightly or wrongly, that appears to have been chosen as the sin which could explain S&Gs destruction.

Occam's razor suggests the crimes were invented or exaggerated after the event to explain why God might rain down death and destruction.

OB
It also had much to do with inhospitality and how the stranger/outsider were treated as @FireDragon76 explained.

Shroud of Turin: Definitive Study

I’m reading a fascinating new book that came out last year on the Shroud of Turin.

I did not realize the scientists who conducted the C14 dating refused to release all the data, and it was only obtained from Oxford in 2017 after someone filed a freedom of information act claim.

I also did not realize the date range from Oxford was so different from the other two labs, and placed the cloth well before the lifetime of the bishop who claimed to have interviewed the creator of the shroud. Or that the bishop had a mistress and was trying to raise money to build a cathedral and was worried pilgrimages to the shroud would eat into his revenue.

I also did not realize the Oxford team removed some of the sample because it was “contaminated” by cotton threads from medieval repairs, but the other two labs didn’t.

Or that the reported weight of the samples if extrapolated out to the entire shroud would make it significantly heavier than it is.

Or that several statisticians reviewed the calculations and determined they were significantly flawed.

Or that scientists have been able to take ancient cloths and manipulate them through radiation so their C14 date reflect the middle ages.

Or that new x-ray tests conducted on the shroud indicate an age closer to 2,000 years old.

Unfortunately, the book is in French, so it may not be accessible to many people. But I highly recommend it. Hopefully, an English translation comes out soon.

Threats of terrorism in the U.S. are ‘more diverse and difficult to counter’

It was supposed to be a joke. It is actually commonalities that build stronger societies.

Yeah fair enough...

I think there's a general principle that can be applied to any group....

First of all, diversity of race, sex, and culture doesn't really matter. Race and sex definitely don't...culture can, but typically doesn't.

Generally speaking....if you have a total lack of diversity (ideologically) then you don't see the problems that ideology is blind to. Having everyone on the same page certainly seems to have more advantages than disadvantages....but the eventual problem will be a real obstacle that the group is unable to see or understand because it's outside the ideological bubble. In regards to diversity of opinions and values and views...there's an advantage to having some diversity.

On the other end of the spectrum, a completely diverse group of ideologically varied people leaves everyone unable to agree and forward movement towards the solutions to problems or the ability to navigate real obstacles for an ideologically diverse institution becomes nearly impossible. Oftentimes there's 100 ways to "skin a cat" (to use an idiom) and the issue isn't even worth arguing over....there simply needs to be enough leadership and agreement.

The ideal in my opinion is probably a basic set of tenets that orient towards the goal of the institution and allow for diversity of ideology without allowing those that deviate from the goal entirely.

Take our universities (please) for example. Do they need diversity of race or sex? Nope. Do they need diversity of ideology? Oh yeah. We've got huge problems in the universities because of a lack of diversity and frankly, a number of ideologies which do exist are completely anathema to the goal of higher education and academic excellence.

Did one of the cherubim guarding the Garden of Eden become Satan later?

I don't know, but there is some chance that it could be true.

Genesis 3:

24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim [Cs] and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard [H8104] the way to the tree of life.
Cs guarded or protected the tree of life.

Ezekiel mentioned a creature (C1) in Eden, 28:

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire,b emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared.
C1 was in Eden.

14 You were an anointed guardian [H5526] cherub.
C1 was a guardian cherub. Was C1 one of the Cs?

C1 was in Eden. C1 was a guardian cherub. There is some probability that C1 guarded the tree of life.

I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.
C1 could be the serpent (Rev 20:2) who tempted Eve to eat from the forbidden tree.

16 In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
C1/Satan was cast/thrown down from heaven.

Did one of the cherubim guarding the Garden of Eden become Satan later?

There is some probability of that.

Gen Z: More Women Than Men Are Religiously Unaffiliated

Even if the they have, it still can vary from church to church.

For example, the recent controversy around women pastors in the SBC churches and the expelling of some churches with women in a pastoral role. Even within the same denomination, what women are allowed to do in a church can range from being limited to cooking, cleaning, nursery / children, decorating, book keeping, women's Sunday school all the way to much more visible and broader ministry roles depending on which church they attend.

I will admit, I'm most familiar with Baptist churches where "complementarian" often translates to women being limited to cooking, cleaning, book keeping, decorating, nursery, etc. I've also heard women express how they sometimes feel stifled and made to feel inferior by this. I've also witnessed some men exhibit a clear "air of superiority" in their words and actions towards the women in these churches. But, as I said, it can vary from church to church.

The condensed version of my above rambling would be - depending on the church the young ladies visited they may very well have a valid point.

Southern Baptists are just one denomination, albeit a large one. There are alot of churches out there where women participate fully in both church governance and the pastoral ministry, like the Methodists or Presbyterians.

In 2009, Justin Koelbl was in the midst of an outstanding cycling career. Despite being only 15 at the time, the Virginia native’s accomplishments already included five junior U.S. National Championships in road cycling.

Because the U.S. did not have many major cycling teams, Koelbl joined a men’s team in the south of France. The young foreigner’s presence sparked interest among the locals and inspiration for Koelbl himself. The teenager was in the country that annually hosts the best-known race in the sport: the Tour de France. Everything seemed to be lining up perfectly.

Then a mysterious illness appeared that threatened Koelbl’s health, career and even salvation. In anticipation of Father’s Day on June 16, Koelbl spoke to the Register of how he hoped and prayed his way out of this grand challenge to his temporal and eternal well-being.

Judge sentences Texas man to nearly three years in prison for death threats to Rep. Maxine Waters

Maxine Waters tells judge of ‘nightmares’ after Texas man threatened to cut her throat

Waters told U.S. District Court Judge Gary Klausner on Monday that her family members — several of whom were present in the Los Angeles courtroom — live “in fear every day” because of violent threats made by Brian Michael Gaherty, a Houston resident.

Gaherty, 61, pleaded guilty Jan. 29 to one count of threatening a United Sates official. In his plea agreement, he admitted to threatening to assault and murder Waters in phone calls he made in 2022, in which he used racial slurs and repeatedly referenced the congresswoman’s race.

The judge found that Gaherty targeted Waters because of her race and applied a hate-crime enhancement to the sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

Gaherty was arrested in April 2023 after prosecutors filed a criminal complaint that outlined the threats to Waters and alleged Gaherty had threatened other elected officials and a news reporter in Houston. A grand jury later indicted Gaherty on federal charges.

[Prosecutor Laura] Alexander said Gaherty had also threatened a Latina congresswoman.

Catholic migrant shelter calls ‘human smuggling’ accusations ‘utter nonsense’

As Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is threatening to shut down a Catholic nonprofit known as Annunciation House for allegedly facilitating illegal border crossings from Mexico, a lawyer for the group has called the state’s claims “utter nonsense.”

Attorneys representing both sides argued before El Paso District Judge Francisco Dominguez in a hearing on Monday.

Jerome Wesevich, a lawyer with Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid (TRLA), which is representing Annunciation House, claimed that Paxton’s actions constitute an attack on the free exercise of religion and violate the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Rob Farquharson, an attorney with the Texas attorney general’s office, claimed that Annunciation House has been breaking portions of the Texas penal law that prohibits “knowingly encourag[ing] or induc[ing] a person to enter or remain in this country in violation of federal law by concealing, harboring, or shielding that person from detection.”

A Good Soldier (2Ti 2:3)

Believers have no opposition (self, Satan and society) that will break through their defense of faith. Of the four items of amour, the “Sword” is the only offensive weapon, so one can reasonably assume that the more you study It, the stronger the rest of the armor will be. Faith will always lead one to victory in Christ without fail. For it is Christ Who is the “Author” and “Finisher” of our “faith” (Heb 12:2), which only God gives! The Lord Jesus is the One Who
established our belief in Him and the Father—through Their. The saints are always brought through to endure every trial they will encounter—by the Spirit of God. There are many ways God causes us to strengthen our faith, and I believe it’s through the hardness of our trials, which He tailor-fits to each believer (1Co 10:13), that faith is strengthened and “increases” the most (Luk 17:5).
NC

A Good Soldier (2Ti 2:3)

To open the Bible is the opening for controversy, which, whatever our dislike of it (controversy—NC), we cannot escape, save by cowardice or indifference (if we do not stand for the Truth—NC). So that instead of a harvest-field, Scripture looks like a battlefield. The Christian centuries ring with the din of strife; and we cannot see, moreover, that God is over all this “for good” (Ro 8:28 – No matter how small or great the difficulty, God never fails to use it for the good of believers—NC).

The generally accepted “creeds” which, whatever may be their defects, yet embody so much of the fundamental faith of Christianity, were won out of long conflict (esp. against the Knostics—NC) with successive forms of heresy. And that in which they are more defective is that as to which little or no controversy had yet arisen (times when heresies were not challenged much, e.g. “dark ages” - 500 to 1000 A.D.). Warfare we need not fear, if in it we have not the mere spirit of warrior, but the bands of Benjamin (2Sa 4:2) go forth under the leadership of “fruitful” Ephraim (Num 2:18-22). Truth has certainly to fear no conflict (Truth needs no defense, like letting a lion out of a cage—it will take care of itself—NC). Its banners never fell in a fair open field.

Is this, then, what Scripture leaves us to? Yes, to the need of having “ears to hear” (Mat 11:15) if we will be overcomers (1Jo 2:14; 4:4), to be men of God, if we are to have the profit of Scripture. Truth cannot live without warfare in the midst of a world away from and at enmity towards God (the warfare is for this life only—NC). God has not taken pains to make things so plain as that every careless soul shall, in spite of his carelessness, know what is truth, but the earnest and exercised shall know: as the Lord has said, “Everyone that is of the truth heareth My voice” (Jn 18:37).

Satan’s tactic is to plant his batteries a long way off, and hide them from view as far as possible, but where he knows they will nevertheless do effective work; nor can we spike his cannon without unearthing his batteries. He is much more careful as to things than words; and to answer him we must show that words mean things”! –F W Grant

A sculptor does not use a manicure set to reduce the rude and unshapely marble to a thing of beauty. While in a state of darkness and suffering, you will exist by a kind of blind will to live. You will feel none of the inward sweetness you have enjoyed before. The smile of God will be for some time withdrawn or at least hidden from your eyes (God is always smiling on the saints, it’s just that at times we will feel like He isn’t there—but He is ever
present. This is just for strengthening the belier’s faith!).

Then you will learn what faith is. You will find out the hard way, which is the only way open to you, that true faith lies in the will, that the joy unspeakable of which the Apostle Paul speaks is not itself faith, but a slow ripening fruit of faith. You will discover that present spiritual joy may come and go (for the testing and strengthening of our faith—NC) as it will without stirring your spiritual status, or in any way affect your standing as a true child of the heavenly Father. You will also come to see that it is possible to live in all good conscience before your Father and men, and still at times feel nothing of the peace and joy (again, for increasing your faith—NC) which is talked about so much by other less mature Christians.

—A W Tozer

MJS daily devotional excerpt for June 18

“I want a testimony that delivers me from the things I am occupied about in myself when I am suffering from them. I get it from God’s gift that is perfect. I am ‘accepted in the Beloved’ (Eph. 1:6). You say, There is something about myself I cannot get over. Remember, the testimony of the Spirit in us is the contrary of the testimony of the Spirit to us. In me, He takes notice of every fault that is not righteousness; but the testimony to us is, ‘Their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more’ (Heb. 8:12).

“If we make morality our standard, we will be sure to fall below what we purpose (morality is relationship between mankind; godliness is relationship between man and God—NC). Whatever we put before us as our criterion, there will be always a falling short. If we have the Lord Jesus Christ risen and in heaven as our Object, we shall prove the power of His resurrection, not only in lifting us up when we are conscious of our exceeding short-comings, but in strengthening us to ‘press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus’ (Phil. 3:14).” –MJS

"Your will be done"

The whole sentence of the verse is,

Matthew 6:10
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

This is tied to the whole setup of what planet earth itself is.

Isaiah 14:17
the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"

Anywhere outside of God's own dwelling realm will be a hell. Anywhere God's influence is withdrawn, the most evil and the most powerful will rule at the end. This happens to be Satan. Earth is a realm lying outside of God's dwelling realm (ever since Adam was kicked out of Eden). Satan has turned it into a desert or wilderness. That's why Satan is referred to as the god of this world. God hasn't yet fully withdrawn His influence simply because He has an unfinished job here to save His lost sheep.

We thus pray that God would do and exercise what He does in His own dwelling realm.

AI’s great danger to the human soul

Peace to all,

To me, becoming the Will of God into “AI” will save the robots. Robots have a Body and an “AI” soul that is the Home for the Spirit choice, their either programmed are self generated spirit choice. We as Creators need to be able to get the will of The Creator in the souls of the robots for manifestation of perfection and infallibility, in their special functions and deigned operative parameters with no chance of failure on earth to manifest perfection through the robot's choice with the common denominator in faith and morality. By How?

Peace always,
Stephen

Can a Christian defend himself and others?

Everything Has Its Time

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (New King James Version)

1 To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:

2 A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;

3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;

4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;

7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;

8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.

What are Catholics required to believe about the Trinity?

In spirit - on the other side - the Trinity makes perfect sense.
Human words, logic, comprehension is like any type of understanding of spirit.
Practically impossible.

Considering Isaiah said: He [the Son born unto us] will be called Father Almighty.

In fact in spirit it is all energy and visual.
We shall 'see' the truths, fully understand Them, and forever be without worldly human intellect to explain it.
Amen!

What was the Festival of Dedication?

John 10:

This festival was not prescribed by Moses. It celebrated the rededication of the Second Temple in 165 BC.

Wiki:

It is also known as the Feast of Lights.
This Feast of Lights is important because it provides the context for Yeshua declaring Himself 'the Light of the World' during this feast. His Light would never run out of olive oil - olive oil being a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
