  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Spanish diocese cancels parish prep course for blessing irregular couples

The Diocese of Huelva in Spain has “prohibited and disavowed” a planned preparation course for the “blessing of same-sex couples or couples in an irregular situation” that was to be held at one of its parishes. The diocese said it learned about the course through the media.

In a brief statement, the diocese explained that “this way of accompanying Christian faithful who are in such situations does not correspond with the teaching of Pope Francis nor with the pastoral practice of the Church.”

The text concludes by stating that “the Diocese of Huelva provides pastoral accompaniment for all people, offering opportunities for listening, formation, and growth in faith and always in accordance with the teachings of the Church.”

St. Paul Parish, the planned venue for the course, has canceled the event. On its website, the original information was replaced with a message stating: “For reasons beyond our control, we have to cancel this accompaniment.”

Former Tenth Presbyterian pastor deposed, suspended from Lord’s Supper following sexual abuse investigation

The Philadelphia Presbytery has deposed Tenth Presbyterian Church Senior Pastor Liam Goligher from ministry and indefinitely suspended him from the Lord’s Supper following his guilty plea to multiple charges, including adult clergy sexual abuse.

In a statement released after its Jan. 18 meeting, the presbytery announced the disciplinary actions it enacted followed judicial proceedings initiated in March 2024 after an investigation into Goligher’s conduct.

“In the case of the Presbyterian Church in America v Liam Goligher, Liam Goligher pleaded guilty to the charges of Lying, Conduct Unbecoming of a Pastor and Elder, Harsh and Uncharitable Treatment of Colleagues and Subordinates and Spiritual Abuse and Adult Clergy Sexual Abuse. After considering the nature of Liam Goligher’s confession and indications of repentance, the Ad Hoc Judicial Commission ruling on this case inflicted the censures of deposition from office and indefinite suspension from the Lord’s Supper,” the presbytery said, according to Advocacy from the Presbyterian Pew.

Steven Nelson, convicted of killing pastor inside church, to be executed after failed appeals

Some 13 years after he was sentenced to death for the grisly murder of Texas Rev. Clint Dobson inside his church in 2011, Steven Nelson maintains his innocence and said the late pastor's church rejected his efforts to contact Dobson's family days before he is scheduled to die by lethal injection Wednesday.

"My foundation might have been cracked 13 years ago but my foundation is whole now. I'm not the monster they say that I am," Nelson said in an interview with NewsNation's Ashleigh Banfield.

Nelson was convicted of suffocating Dobson in March 2011 when the pastor was just 28, according to The Associated Press. He also reportedly beat Dobson's 69-year-old secretary, Judy Elliot, so badly that she suffered memory problems and a broken jaw. Prosecutors painted him as a "predator" who forced Dobson and Elliott to tie each other up before they were suffocated and battered.

Mayburg Pennsylvania

Hey has anyone here ever been to Mayburg, PA? It is a tiny town in the middle of the Allegheny national forest, I love it there! It is in a very remote area, it has a population of like 300 in the summer and 30 in the winter, it is like a different planet. Alot of people have summer homes there, alot of my family live there in the summer. The only store in town is the gas station. Alot of people come down there to go fishing on the Mayburg bridge, that is the only thing to do there, my family does that too.

San Francisco must rehire Christian employees fired for refusing COVID shot: court

Good!

People have the right to make their own medical decisions! They shouldn’t be discriminated against for that!
I agree but they don't have the right to infect others. I side with SF on the issue, only because of the extreme national emergency that we faced during the pandemic but I'm glad the fired employees are being rehired now that the danger has subsided.

No one should be forced to make medical decisions unless another emergency appears.

Gabbard approved by Intelligence Committee, one step closer to confirmation

CV NEWS FEED // In what has been described as a major momentum shift, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is now on the precipice of being confirmed as the next Director of National Intelligence (DNI) after the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence voted 9-8 Tuesday to advance her to a full Senate vote. The vote fell along party lines.

During a confirmation hearing last week, Gabbard spoke against intelligence operatives surveilling American Catholic parishes, referencing a controversial FBI memo leaked in 2023 which targeted both “radical traditional” and “mainline” Catholics as potential threats.

During the same hearing, Gabbard also decried U.S. intelligence operations that she said led to the persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses but only Miriam was punished

Numbers 12:

1 Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses
criticized
וַתְּדַבֵּ֨ר (wat·tə·ḏab·bêr)
Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Consecutive imperfect - third person feminine singular Strong's 1696: To arrange, to speak, to subdue

Moses' older sister and brother spoke against Moses but the verb is feminine singular.

because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. 2 And they said, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?”
Miriam was a prophetess and the leading woman of the Israelites. She felt the responsibility to speak up against Moses marrying a Gentile woman. But God had other ideas.

10 When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.
But only Miriam was punished. Why?

Keil and Delitzsch explained:

Miriam was the instigator of the open rebellion, as we may see both from the fact that her name stands before that of Aaron, and also from the use of the feminine תּדבּר [H1696] in Numbers 12:1. Aaron followed her, being no more able to resist the suggestions of his sister, than he had formerly been to resist the desire of the people for a golden idol (Exodus 32).
Fearing that God might punish him too, Aaron was quick to repent:

11And Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, do not punish us because we have done foolishly and have sinned. 12Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes out of his mother’s womb.” 13And Moses cried to the LORD, “O God, please heal her—please.”
Once again, Moses came to the rescue, pleading for his sister.

14But the LORD said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut outside the camp seven days, and after that she may be brought in again.” 15So Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days, and the people did not set out on the march till Miriam was brought in again.
Miriam had learned her lesson.

Liberal media's lies to protect Biden were even worse than you think

Mind-blowing, but it really just confirms what we knew all along: Joe was sitting a room somewhere, playing with blocks and watching episodes of My Little Pony while somebody else (God knows who) was actually running the country.

I think about this every time one of the legacy media talking heads start in on how Elon Musk has power in the government but was not elected by the people. After four years of having a figurehead President, they still have no shame about the double speak they employ.

At least 10 killed in worst mass shooting in Sweden's history: police

At least 10 people were killed in a school shooting in Sweden on Tuesday, with police officers confirming the suspected gunman also died after carrying out what is being described as the worst mass shooting ever to happen in the European country.

Authorities said the shooting took place at an adult education center in the city of Örebro, about 125 miles west of Stockholm, where multiple schools share the same campus, the BBC reports.

Police said officers were first alerted around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, triggering a large-scale response that involved sealing off the area and instructing people to take shelter.

Earthly and heavenly marriages

In terms of typology, Genesis 2 describes an earthly type of marriage:

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Revelation 19 expresses a spiritual reality:

7 Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
This is the true heavenly type.

Both show intimacy and oneness as explained by Jesus in John 17:

21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.
When God created Adam and Eve and the covenant of marriage between the two, did He already have the marriage between Christ and the Church in mind?

Yes, since the mind of God transcends time. Marriage was created as a type of heavenly oneness. The marriage relationship, from its inception, was designed to be a living metaphor for the profound spiritual intimacy between Christ and His people.

John N. Oswalt, NIVAC or NIV Application Commentary on Isaiah 14 and the Underworld

1 Samuel 28:3-15 NRSV
[3] Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. Saul had expelled the mediums and the wizards from the land. [4] The Philistines assembled, and came and encamped at Shunem. Saul gathered all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa. [5] When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly. [6] When Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, not by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets. [7] Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, so that I may go to her and inquire of her.” His servants said to him, “There is a medium at Endor.” [8] So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes and went there, he and two men with him. They came to the woman by night. And he said, “Consult a spirit for me, and bring up for me the one whom I name to you.” [9] The woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the wizards from the land. Why then are you laying a snare for my life to bring about my death?” [10] But Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.” [11] Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” He answered, “Bring up Samuel for me.” [12] When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!” [13] The king said to her, “Have no fear; what do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a divine being coming up out of the ground.” [14] He said to her, “What is his appearance?” She said, “An old man is coming up; he is wrapped in a robe.” So Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and did obeisance. [15] Then Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul answered, “I am in great distress, for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams; so I have summoned you to tell me what I should do.”

Job 10:20-22 NRSV
[20] Are not the days of my life few? Let me alone, that I may find a little comfort [21] before I go, never to return, to the land of gloom and deep darkness, [22] the land of gloom and chaos, where light is like darkness.”

Isaiah 14:9-15 NRSV
[9] Sheol beneath is stirred up to meet you when you come; it rouses the shades to greet you, all who were leaders of the earth; it raises from their thrones all who were kings of the nations. [10] All of them will speak and say to you: “You too have become as weak as we! You have become like us!” [11] Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, and the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering. [12] How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! [13] You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; [14] I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.” [15] But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the Pit.

Ezekiel 32:17-32 NRSV
[17] In the twelfth year, in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: [18] Mortal, wail over the hordes of Egypt, and send them down, with Egypt and the daughters of majestic nations, to the world below, with those who go down to the Pit. [19] “Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down! Be laid to rest with the uncircumcised!” [20] They shall fall among those who are killed by the sword. Egypt has been handed over to the sword; carry away both it and its hordes. [21] The mighty chiefs shall speak of them, with their helpers, out of the midst of Sheol: “They have come down, they lie still, the uncircumcised, killed by the sword.”

Jonah 2:2-6 NIV
[2] He said: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. [3] You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. [4] I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ [5] The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. [6] To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit.

Numbers 16:31-34 NIV
[31] As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart [32] and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. [33] They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. [34] At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, “The earth is going to swallow us too!”

Psalms 88:3-12 NRSV
[3] For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol. [4] I am counted among those who go down to the Pit; I am like those who have no help, [5] like those forsaken among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand. [6] You have put me in the depths of the Pit, in the regions dark and deep. [7] Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. Selah [8] You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a thing of horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape; [9] my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call on you, O Lord; I spread out my hands to you. [10] Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the shades rise up to praise you? Selah [11] Is your steadfast love declared in the grave, or your faithfulness in Abaddon? [12] Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your saving help in the land of forgetfulness?

It's pretty clear that the Bible describes an underworld and I'm sorry if you have a problem with the Bible @CoreyD. Yes, these spirits may be later destroyed or ressurected. But it is still a fact of scripture that a spiritual afterlife is described, living on after death, albeit typically in what is understood to be poetry.

I am not sure why these passages are complicated for you. They're pretty plain and straightforward. But if you have some questions that you'd like to wrestle with, feel free to ask. Otherwise, only you can resolve these theological conflicts that you're facing with what scripture says.

From gardening raspberries as a child to sharing jambalaya in retirement, Sandy Hanson’s life reflects faith-filled flavor.

Recipe: JambalayaServes 4 to 6

“Riceland is the brand of rice grown in Eastern Arkansas,” says Sandy. “I preferred long-grain — not as sticky as medium-grain rice,” she noted, adding, “For a Lenten meal, substitute 4 tablespoons of butter for sausage and add cooked or canned shrimp instead of meat.”

8 ounces small link sausages, sliced
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
1 clove garlic, peeled and chopped
1 quart chicken or beef bouillon
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 cup raw rice
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1/2 to 1 1/2 to 1 cup cut-up cooked chicken
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt to taste
In a large soup kettle, brown sausage until almost done. Add onion and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in bouillon, thyme, and parsley. Heat to boiling and add rice. Reduce heat and simmer until rice is tender. Add ham, chicken, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Cook for 5 to 10 more minutes, stirring well. Serve hot.

Couple sue Vatican Bank after they were fired for getting married

I know where I work, a leader cannot be in a relationship with someone under them. They have to be transferred to a different store if that occurs. It's a conflict of interest.

There are laws for a reason.
That was the policy at a company I worked for. In fact, the CEO and VP were let go because they were in a
relationship, which is prohibited. They got caught synchronizing their business trips together of which the
company paid for.

Acceptance among their colleagues

This prayer request is in conjunction or is associated with prayer request posted January 20, 2025. As I stated in that request I do struggle with social anxiety and being rather reserved and whereas being reserved should not be a sort of taboo in a extrovert world there seems to be a negative stigma with being reserved, not being intelligent or having any positive attributes.

I would ask for divine guidance and wisdom for as embark on a new job opportunity. Pray to heart with peace and assurance, . I ask the strength to overcome their social anxieties and to be a light in the workplace.

I ask for prayers for favor and acceptance among their colleagues, allowing to build meaningful relationships and be a positive influence to be an instrument of GOD's love and grace, bringing peace and joy to those that are encountered each day.

To excel in the new role and line of work, and to be a testament to GOD's goodness and faithfulness. To be Provided with the knowledge and understanding required to perform their duties with excellence.

A special request for the salvation of their co-workers. Use as a vessel to share your love and truth, and may there be a mighty revival in this workplace. Declare that the atmosphere will shift from one of indifference to one of faith and unity under your presence.

Thank you in advance for any and all prayers. Blessing be upon you!
I prayed for your requests. But, may I caution you on what seems to be your zeal to get converts in your workplace.

Bear in mind that Messiah said that few would make it to heaven. Statistically, that means most of your coworkers will never receive salvation. That is sad. But I didn’t say it, he did

We are also told to be discreet in evil times. Of course, these are very evil times. There are many people who hate the gospel, who even hate the Lord. They would resent you trying to bring them into the fold, and maybe even hate you for it and try to make trouble for you.

The apostles fished all night and couldn’t find anything until the Messiah told them where to throw their nets.

Please ask him always to let you know if where and how to throw your net, for any at all.

Shout for Joy in The Lord

“Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.” (Psalms 33:1-5 ESV)

How can we, as the people of God today, who are living righteously, according to his commands, and in his power, “shout for joy in the Lord”? Does it have to be a loud shout verbally with our lips to where it shakes the foundations of buildings? Or can it be spoken softly with no noise but with the same power and strength? And what is the point of this shout? Is it to draw attention to ourselves, or is it to give honor and glory to God?

And if we have joy in the Lord, what should that joy be about? It should be about him, right? It should be about who he was and is and his character and his plan and purpose for our lives, and about what Jesus did for us in giving his life up for us on that cross to put our sins to death with him. We should be verbalizing where others can hear us our joy in the Lord and in our salvation from sin, how he rescued us from our slavery to sin.

But it doesn’t stop there. He didn’t just rescue us from our addiction to sin, but he gave us new lives in Christ Jesus to now be lived for his glory and purposes, according to his expressed will for our lives written down for us in the Scriptures. We should be sharing with the people the joy that we have in Christ Jesus because of the change God has brought about in our hearts and minds and behaviors in making us new creations in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Now, not all of us play musical instruments. I can kind of play the piano just a very little bit, well enough to plunk out a tune or to write a song, but not well enough to play in front of other people. Singing was my gift. But we don’t have to be gifted musically at all to give praise to our Lord. We can praise and thank him with what we say or write, but mainly we praise him by how we live our lives in walks of obedience to his commands.

For we can perform all kinds of “songs and dances,” supposedly to the Lord, but if our hearts are not surrendered to the Lord to do his will for our lives, then it is just noise. We who profess faith in Jesus Christ, that he is our Lord, must be people who are living uprightly and righteously, in the power of God, who are walking in obedience to his commands, living the life he has for us to live. And that is the greatest “shout out” to the Lord there is.

For the Lord loves righteousness and justice. And we should, too, which should be evident by how we live our lives, day in and day out. Because the Lord and his word are upright, so should we be in how we live. Because the work of the Lord is done in faithfulness, so should our work be done. As God is, in his righteousness and purity, so should our lives be. We should be people of God who live godly, upright, and morally pure lives to his glory.

That really is the best “shout out” in joy to the Lord that we can make. For words can be cheap if they are not followed up with actions. Our lives and how we live them are the strongest testimony to what we really believe about the Lord and if truly our joy is in him. But this does not mean that we neglect speaking the truth of God’s word to people, too. We need to be sharing the truth of the gospel with the people for their salvation from sin, so that they can now live for the Lord in walks of obedience to him.

[Matt 5:13-16; Matt 28:18-20; Jn 4:31-38; Jn 13:13-17; Jn 14:12; Acts 1:8; Acts 26:18; Rom 10:14-15; Eph 5:11-14; 1 Pet 2:9,21; 1 John 2:6]

Songs in the Night

An Original Work / December 18, 2013
Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 NIV ‘84

Lord, I praise You forevermore.
You, my Savior, I now adore.
Hope in heaven awaiting me,
Because You died at Calvary.

I have been forgiven,
And I’m bound for heaven.
Jesus set me free from
All my sin, I say.
I will praise Him always!

Lord, I love You for all You’ve done:
Overcame death, my vict’ry won!
Jesus saved me, and now I’m free!
I rejoice in His love for me.

I will walk in vict’ry!
My sin is but hist’ry!
I am free to please Him
With my life today.
I will love Him always!

Lord, I thank You for giving me
A new life bought at Calvary.
Loving Jesus, I meet with Him.
Tender mercies now flow within.

Lord, I am so thankful;
Through my Lord, I’m able
To sit at His table;
Fellowship with Him.
I will thank Him always!
