  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The LORD said to Jeremiah: “Take from MY HAND this cup of the wine of wrath"

Jeremiah 25:

15 This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from My hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it. 16 And they will drink and stagger and go out of their minds, because of the sword that I will send among them.”
17 So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the nations drink from it, each one to whom the LORD had sent me
Was there a physical cup present when Jeremiah spoke these words?

I don't think so. Jeremiah 25:

17So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent me drink it: 18Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin and an object of horror and scorn, a curse c —as they are today; 19Pharaoh king of Egypt, his attendants, his officials and all his people, 20and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz; all the kings of the Philistines (those of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod); 21Edom, Moab and Ammon; 22 all the kings of Tyre and Sidon; the kings of the coastlands across the sea; 23Dedan, Tema, Buz and all who are in distant places; 24 all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the foreign people who live in the wilderness; 25all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media; 26and all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak will drink it too.
Logistically speaking, Jeremiah couldn't accomplish all these things by running around physically.

Does Jeremiah physically visit the nations and hand them the cup of God's wrath?

I doubt it. The passage was a vision and symbolic.

Get the Facts: Project 2025

Thank you for setting the record straight.

My point about this - is that it is "Heritage Foundation" rather than "Donald Trump's Agenda 47".

As a private group - Heritage can have any agenda that they wish. Trump cannot be held accountable for everything that someone who is not a Democrat - says or promotes or does. We are seeing a lot of "marketing gimmicks" by those groups opposing Trump these days.
Actually, the document seems like a tamer, more subdued and politically correct version of what he says at rallies and speeches. Believe it or not, Project 2025 would be a marginal improvement from Trump.

Fully 60% of the words in this Sunday’s Gospel are Jesus warning of harsh, dire consequences for sin — but take hope...

The Gospel for the 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B, shows Jesus denouncing sin in the strongest possible terms. It’s no wonder: The world has been destroyed by sin and the Church has been shipwrecked by it — in fact, by men and women who were taught to sin as children.

But Jesus also gives a giant promise of hope for our future.

Fully 60% of the words in this Sunday’s Gospel passage are Jesus warning of harsh, dire consequences for sin.

Jesus says, “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna.” He says the same thing about your feet and your eyes.

This is Semitic hyperbole; it doesn’t mean you should literally maim yourself. But it does mean that it is better to be a blind quadruple-amputee than to be committed to sin. It also means that you should eliminate anything in your life that draws you toward sin, be it your laptop, liquor, or your lifestyle — your friends, pass-times, or secret addictions.

Doctors amputate a limb in order to save the body. We have to amputate sin to save our soul. But we often do the opposite: We amputate our soul to save our sin.

Jesus describes where that will lead us — “to be thrown into Gehenna, where ‘the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’” This is hell, which as described by Jesus Christ is a place where we are tortured from within, as if by a worm eating our soul, and tormented from outside, as if by fire that scorches us without burning us up, forever.

Harris vows to keep Biden's border crackdown: "The United States is a sovereign nation" "Those who cross our borders unlawfully will be apprehended an

We already have "rules", immigration law/policies in place .... the Biden administration did not and does not follow them, so why should we believe they will enforce any future immigration policies? She is putting forth ideas .. not actual policy.
In what way is the Biden administration not following immigration law? You put for this "example":
In January 2023, Biden announced a humanitarian parole program to increase the admission of immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, while also announcing that his administration would crack down on those who fail to use the plan's legal pathway and strengthen border security.
Is humanitarian parole not a feature of US immigration law?

Which Kamala are we voting for?

What possible reason would a Biden , Harris DOJ have for having non-citizens on voter rolls? This is the Kamala low information voters are voting for. DOJ sues Alabama, state's top election official for allegedly purging noncitizen voters too close to election
You read the article, but yet you missed two important items:

"alleging that they had removed voters who had previously been issued noncitizen identification numbers from its election rolls too close to election day." (Federal law prevents broad removals/purges within 90 days of an election.)

"The DOJ also alleged that Allen's removal of voter registration also impacted natural-born citizens who were incorrectly identified as potential noncitizens."

In addition to all of this being in the FoxNews article, you can also find it in the DOJ press release:

Justice Department Sues Alabama for Violating Federal Law’s Prohibition on Systematic Efforts to Remove Voters Within 90 Days of an Election

The Justice Department announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against the State of Alabama and the Alabama Secretary of State to challenge a systematic State program aimed at removing voters from its election rolls too close to the Nov. 5 general election, in violation of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA).

The Justice Department’s review found that both native-born and naturalized U.S. citizens have received letters stating that their voter record has been made inactive and that they have been placed on a path for removal from Alabama’s statewide voter registration list

The secret to a long life.

I think extreme longevity is mainly due to genetics. Plenty of people who were vegans and exercised a lot etc, died in their 80s. Whereas others who lead an average lifestyle made it into their 90s and 100s.

One woman named Jeanne Calment who lived to be 122, smoked most of her life and imbibed to the end

images

I remember her because of a story I read. In France there's a custom that if you agree to take care of an elderly person, you inherit all their stuff. A man made this deal with her when she was in her 90s, and she outlived him. His children had to continue caring for her.
She ate 2 pounds of chocolate per week and apparently had only one drop of wine and one cigarette per day.

It’s mind boggling.

Sadly she outlived her children.

Donald Trump Says God Saved Him. He Can Repay God by Defending Life.

COMMENTARY: If the Republican presidential candidate truly believes that God twice spared him from assassination, he has a moral duty to oppose abortion.

“God has now spared my life … not once, but twice.”

So said Donald Trump this week, reflecting on the failure of two would-be assassins to kill him. The first attempt on his life, in July, came within millimeters of killing the former president. The second attempt, earlier this month, was disrupted by law enforcement before the shooter could pull the trigger. These brushes with death have left the president — and millions of voters — with the firm belief that God himself intervened. As the Trump said last week, “God has now spared my life … not once, but twice.”

Unsurprisingly, the media has jumped on anyone who holds this view, belittling Christians for believing that God intervenes in the world, much less on behalf of Donald Trump. But the criticism isn’t fair. God works in mysterious ways, so it’s fair to wonder if he intervened to let Trump fulfill some larger plan. At the same time, God hasn’t told us what that plan is. Until we get some revelation from heaven, those of us on earth will struggle to discern God’s will.

That duty of discernment now falls to Trump himself. If he honestly thinks God saved him, he should be asking a simple question: What does God want me to do in return?

Continued below.
Paul tells us that God “works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Eph. 1:11). All things are subject to God's immediate control. All things happen according to His eternal purpose ... whether through intervention or not.

According to His eternal purpose ... we are not privy to knowing if/when He directly intervenes or when He allows things to happen ... (play out without intervening). It's something we simply do not know. He is all knowing ... not us.

Regardless of how something happens ... doesn't matter ... God is in control and one day He is going to right all wrongs. We rest in that.

His ways are higher .... eternal purposes.

Did God intervene with Trump? Maybe ... maybe not .... we do not know.

This setup of screenshot accountability software and Mobile Device Management software on Android is working really effectively for me.

I wanted to share that this setup of Mobile Device Management software and screenshot accountability software on a Samsung Galaxy phone is working very effectively at preventing me from viewing inappropriate content. I installed Truple which takes screenshots of my phone and shares them with accountability partners. The software is explained at www.truple.io. Knowing that my friends can see screenshots of my phone prevents me from making unwise content decisions. I am also using the Manage Engine Mobile Device Management (MDM) software to block recovery functions that can either disable the screenshot accountability software or erase the software installed on the device. Even though I posted on this forum about a technical problem that may have been caused by the MDM software, I wanted to explain that I am very satisfied with the software setup on my Galaxy phone, and this is keeping me on the right track with my device.

I also have found that this setup with Android give me more freedom. Previously on iPhone, I had YouTube, Facebook, and search engines blocked because I couldn't find a reliable screenshot accountability solution. Because Apple wants to protect people's privacy, they see Truple as spyware and won't allow it in their App Store.

Scientific American endorses Kamala Harris

since this post has triggered a sequence of claims that are difficult to parse, I am commenting on this post directly rather than #126.
You said:”Seems reasonable to acknowledge that Donald Trump and his allies are opposed to scientific evidence, higher education and public spending on research.” That is a broad sweeping statement! But we can break it down.
OK, let's...
1. All claims about climate change are NOT settled science.
The construction of this as "all claims" provides escape, but it does not confront the reality of the situation. The *major* conclusions of climate science are accepted (settled if you like) by the vast majority of those working in the field of climatology. Climate change is not a hoax as Trump or his allies often claim.
2. All information put out by the medical community particularly as related to Covid was not all accurate.
Again, the absolutist formulation -- "all information" and "all accurate" distorts the record. Is this choice deliberate? With less time to check results and conclusions, the fraction of less accurate information was higher than is usual, but the vast majority was presented with the best available information at the time. Some of those claims have been resolved in different directions after the fact, but that is how science works. Trump's allies have pushed (and continue to push) false and often dangerous claims relating to COVID in defiance of evidence. Oddly, Trump is *less* prone to this because he was both briefed on the best information of the moment in the peak of the crisis while President and he rightly takes nominal credit for some government accomplishments which his allies decry.
3. The majority of higher learning institutions are absolutely brainwashing centers.
Neither relevant nor true.
4. Much of public education is teaching crap not suitable for children.
Neither relevant nor true.
So yes you made a broad sweeping accusation against Trump and his allies.
"sweeping accusations" that shorten the conversation and avoid pedantic conversations, but yet, on the whole, correct.

God's power in this age.

1 Kings 8:10-12

10 It happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
Surely, you don't think bowing down to God, is being knocked off your feet... especially nowhere similar to being knocked backwards down several concrete steps.

John 18
4 So Jesus, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, went forth and *said to them, “Whom do you seek?” 5 They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He *said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. 6 So when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
You are not quoting that scripture to say when unbelievers tremble in fear, and fall down, the holy spirit would have done that, are you?

"They drew back and fell to the ground". The men were so terrified, some probably wet their pants, out of fear. The Bible does not say the holy spirit knocked them off their feet.

I read you though, so I'll leave you to it, Carl. Enjoy.

Do You Have an Immortal Soul?

Woody Allen once said, “I don’t want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve immortality through not dying.” Since not dying isn’t an option, Allen advised, “Don’t think of death as an end, but think of it more as a very effective way of cutting down on your expenses.” What (else) happens to you after you die? Nothing? Forever? Or is there life after death? Such questions can be considered both theologically and philosophically.

A theological way to answer the question about life after death is to consider another question: Is Jesus trustworthy? Jesus taught that this life is not the only life—that death destroys the body but does not destroy the soul. As they were both dying on Roman crosses, Jesus told the good thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Indeed, Jesus spoke of heaven and hell on many occasions. So, if Jesus is trustworthy, eternal life is a reality.

C.S. Lewis thought life after death was not just a matter of revelation but also of reason. Lewis wrote, “If we really are the product of a materialistic universe, why don’t you feel at home in a world where we die and disintegrate? Do fish complain of the sea for being wet? Or if they did, would that not strongly suggest that they were once not purely aquatic creatures? Why are we continually shocked and repulsed by death, unless indeed something in us is not temporal.” Lewis held that philosophy, not just theology, points to life after death.

The Sign of the Red Dragon in Heaven

Because the timing of Revelation 12:1’s sign of the woman giving birth and the sign of the red dragon in heaven is so poorly understood, let’s look at why Revelation 12 is occurring at the 7th Trumpet, in sequence, as one would naturally read it right after Revelation 11. It is not taking place suddenly two thousand years ago - it is taking place at the time of the arrival of the kingdom of heaven, the founding of Zion.

Revelation 12:1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. 3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it.

To establish that the Revelation 12:1 sign of the woman giving birth and the sign of the red dragon in heaven is continuing the narrative sequence on from Revelation 11, we need to look at the Old Testament. This sign of the red dragon in heaven (Rev 12:3) is present in Isaiah 30:6 as the ‘flying fiery serpent’.

Isaiah 30: 1 “Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; 2 who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. 4 For though his officials are at Zoan and his envoys reach Hanes, 5 everyone comes to shame through a people that cannot profit them, that brings neither help nor profit, but shame and disgrace.”
6 An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the adder and the flying fiery serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them. 7 Egypt’s help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her “Rahab who sits still.” 8 And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever.

We know from Hebrews 2:4 that God bears ‘witness’ by signs and wonders. This ‘witness’ in Isaiah 30:8 is a sign to Israel that records the ‘travel’ of ‘Judea’ into spiritual Egypt. The Negeb region is in southern Judea whereby one would travel to get to Egypt. A portion of ‘Israel’ is trying to ‘return to Egypt’, the place that God had rescued them from. The ‘oracle’ (often translated here as ‘burden’ in which there is a play on words between the donkey’s burden of the goods being borne and the burden of prophecy - i.e. the ‘oracle’) is that on this journey to Egypt they would encounter: 1) lions, 2) adders, and 3) the ‘flying fiery serpent’.

We see these spiritual signs in each of the three woes of Revelation (the 5th, 6th & 7th Trumpet, respectively). The term, ‘woe,’ here is defined as pain for those who do not look to God for help with their problems and instead look to those that will not help them (ie Egypt).

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!
Revelation 8:13 Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”

Again, in Isaiah 30:6, we saw the lion, adder (snake), and flying fiery serpent.

Isa 30:6 An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the adder and the flying fiery serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them.

In Revelation, we see that the locusts of the 1st Woe (the 5th Trumpet) have ‘lion’s teeth’ (Rev 9:8) (correlating to the lions), the horses of the 2nd Woe (the 6th Trumpet) have ‘tails like serpents with heads’ (Rev 9:19) (correlating to the adders/ serpents), and at the 3rd woe (the 7th Trumpet) we see the ‘flying fiery serpent’ which correlates to the ‘sign of the red dragon in heaven’ (Rev 12:3).

Rev 9:7 In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, 8 their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like lions’ teeth; 9 they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle.
and
Rev 9:18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.
and
Rev 12:3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it.

In the last sign, the Greek here for ‘red dragon’ is ‘pyrros drakon’. ‘Drakon’ means ‘dragon’ which means a ‘serpent’. ‘Pyrros’ means ‘fire-like’ or ‘fiery red’. When Isaiah says that the ‘fiery serpent’ is ‘flying’, it is ‘in the sky’. The Greek word for ‘heaven’ (‘ourano’) can either mean spiritual heaven or the skies above. So when Revelation 12:3 says, ‘a great red dragon appeared in the sky’ as a ‘sign’, we can directly point to it being the same sign in the heavens as Isaiah’s ‘flying fiery serpent’ because it is a witness (and thus a sign) forever (Isa 30:8) (Heb 2:4) - a 'flying' (in the sky) 'fiery' (red) 'serpent' (dragon).

As Isaiah 14 is dealing with the wicked king of Babylon (the angel Lucifer/ Morning Star), it makes sense then that when the king of Babylon breaks the covenant and calls himself God at the 7th Trumpet (Dan 9:27), it is described in the same terms as Satan being thrown down in Revelation 12. When Satan/ Lucifer breaks the covenant, he ‘goes into heaven to be like God’ from which he is cast down into the earth.

Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O day star, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the ground, O destroyer of nations. 13 You said in your heart: “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of assembly, in the far reaches of the north. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15 But you will be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
And
Rev 12:7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Remember that the term, ‘star’, can mean an angel which is where we get the idea of ‘Lucifer’ (the King of Babylon) being an angel (‘Lucifer’ is just a different translation of ‘day star, son of the dawn/ morning’). In Hebrew, the term for ‘fiery serpents’ is ‘seraphim’, which in other contexts is left untranslated as ‘seraphim’ and it means a type of angel as in Isaiah 6:1-7.

When we look further at Isaiah 14, we see another reference to the ‘flying fiery serpent’. This time it is in conjunction with a reference to Isaiah 7 and 8’s beginning of the kingdom of heaven where the poor find pasture and safety. This is why the Revelation 12:1 sign of the woman in heaven giving birth is so intricately linked to the sign of the red dragon in heaven in Revelation 12:3 – they are both occurring at the 7th Trumpet which is the beginning of the kingdom of heaven on earth, the founding of Zion.

Isaiah 14:29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken. For a viper will spring from the root of the snake, and a flying fiery serpent from its egg. 30 Then the firstborn of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root by famine, and your remnant will be slain. 31 Wail, O gate! Cry out, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! For a cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there are no stragglers in its ranks. 32 What answer will be given to the envoys of that nation? “The LORD has founded Zion, where His afflicted people will find refuge.”

The idea here is that the firstborn of the poor will find pasture and it is directly connected to the Isaiah 7-8 sign of Immanuel we saw with Revelation 12’s woman giving birth. Because the ‘poor find pasture’, then the child gets to eat ‘curds and honey’ due to herd animals having more pasture and bees taking over the post-war landscape. Let’s look at these passages again.

Isaiah 7:10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. 16 For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted. 17 The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—the king of Assyria!”
18 In that day the Lord will whistle for the fly that is at the end of the streams of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 19 And they will all come and settle in the steep ravines, and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes, and on all the pastures.
20 In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired beyond the River—with the king of Assyria—the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also.
21 In that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep, 22 and because of the abundance of milk that they give, he will eat curds, for everyone who is left in the land will eat curds and honey.
Isaiah 8:3 And I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz [quickly plunder]; 4 for before the boy knows how to cry ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria will be carried away before the king of Assyria.”
"Because the timing of Revelation 12:1’s sign of the woman giving birth and the sign of the red dragon in heaven is so poorly understood, ..."

It is not so poorly understood nowadays, with astronomical computer modeling. The date of the conditions given as signs in the heavens computes to September 11, 3 BC.

A Back-to-Basics Catechesis on the Fall of Man...

I am compiling a “Back-to-Basics Catechesis” by focusing on Biblical Stories. Here is a reflection on the Fall of Man. A PDF of this reflection is here: THE FALL OF MAN

God had made all things, and He pronounced it “very good.” And yet, something very tragic took place that would shake and alter the very foundations of what God had set forth. That event is call by various titles: Original Sin, the Sin of Adam, The Fall of Man, and so forth. The story begins in the third chapter of Genesis:

Now the serpent was more cunning than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. (Gen 3:1-7)

Two things surprise us right away. Why was there a serpent in the garden of paradise and, why was there a tree from which they should not eat? Both questions have a similar answer: They are there because of human freedom. When God made Adam and Eve He made them, and later us, to be His children, not His slaves. We were not like the animals who live by instinct, nor the plants which simply vegetate. No, we have rational souls, and the glory of our person is that we unite two orders of creation, the spiritual and the physical. We are called to love God as His sons and daughters. But love requires freedom and thus, real alternatives must be available to us.

Why This Tree?

From an outsider

I never believed in a God, and people always felt I was a little arrogent when it comes to other people`s problems. I never had a personal problem, and everything I solved just by doing hard work. But, there was always a side of me that had a soft spot for them, I lost empathy a little over the years because they always made me suffer, and I felt it a little degrading to be in a society. I prayed sometimes, though I never got heard in the sense that Jesus talked to me, or something changed. So many years now I have focused on making life better for everyone, you can`t expect life to be good if you don`t go through the hardships, but I didn`t want to be too judging. Why people have problems, I don`t know, I just wanted us to be together and have fun. For the first time, I feel Jesus don`t have an answer for me, we don`t mix me and society. I feel sad that people follow the gouverment and wants to be enslaved
I can relate to a lot of what you are saying.
It seems you have a soft spot in your heart, which is similar to me.
My experience is slightly different, in that I always felt God was encouraging me, even though I did not really know God.

Like you, seeing people get along and be happy, is something I like.
A lot of people want this too, and it's in a lot of songs, and movies.
I was watching Ferdinand yesterday - haven't reached - the end, but it does have something along these lines. Ferdinand has a very soft heart, while others around him have a lot of pride, and hate, which Ferdinand is optimistic, can change.

Perhaps you are optimistic about positive change in people?
What do you think is the cause of so much hatred and pride in the world, and how do you think this can change?

The Rise of the Exorcists

Young people are listening to exorcists. The endless need for content in Catholic media, especially on podcasts, has led to a host of newly-minted celebrity exorcists—many of whom are humble, helpful priests, and some of whom seem, frankly, nuts.

Exorcists have a trained eye (spiritual discernment) for recognizing demonic activity.

I have not heard the 'nutty' ones, but I've listened to exorcists Fr. Chad Ripperger and Fr. Dan Reehil and believe they both have alot of helpful insight into spiritual warfare to share. Both can be found in interviews on YouTube. Both have commented on the current rise they are seeing in the level of demonic activity. And apparently many are presently seeking them out, for exorcisms.

ICE Data on Immigrants Convicted of Homicide, Living in the U.S.

Note that I thought it fair to post the original article.

But also note that Trump does not seem to read articles carefully.
This CNN article makes it clear that the 13,000 dangerous people
it refers to, entered the U.S. OVER DECADES, and some of them were
in detention facilities.

Be careful, when Trump starts making claims about thousands of
murderers running around free in the U.S.
“ when any politician”

and thousands of murderers are out free

A new generation of worshippers is longing for a ‘lost type of Catholicism’ — and among young women, veils are making a comeback...

At the Catholic Identity Conference last nite in Pittsburgh, Bishop Athanasius Schneider gave a talk. At the conclusion of his talk, he and the conference attendees publicly made a "Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and His Church as the only path to God and to eternal salvation".

This profession was written by Bishop Schneider in response to the recent public statement by Pope Francis that "all religions are a path to God".

The profession:

Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and His Church as the only path to God and to eternal salvation

We unshakably believe and profess what the ordinary and universal Magisterium of the Church has continuously and infallibly taught since the time of the Apostles, namely,

That faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God and only Savior of mankind, is the only religion willed by God.

After the institution of the new and everlasting Covenant in Jesus Christ, no one may be saved by adherence to the teachings and practices of non-Christian religions. Because “the prayer, which is directed to God, must be linked with Christ, the Lord of all people, the one Mediator (1 Tm 2:5; Heb 8:6; 9:15; 12:24) through whom alone we have access to God (Rom 5:2; Eph 2:18; 3:12).” (General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours, n. 6)

We firmly believe that “there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12), except the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead (cf. Acts 4:10).

We believe that it is “contrary to the Catholic faith to consider the Church as one way of salvation alongside those constituted by the other religions, seen as complementary to the Church or substantially equivalent to her, even if these are said to be converging with the Church toward the eschatological kingdom of God” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Declaration Dominus Iesus, 21).

We furthermore hold that Divine Revelation, faithfully transmitted by the Church’s perennial Magisterium, forbids affirming:

That all religions are paths to God,

That the diversity of religious identities is a gift of God, and

That the diversity of religions is an expression of the wise will of God the Creator.

We hold, therefore, that Christians are not simply “travelling companions” along with adherents of false religions — which God forbids.

We fervently implore the help of Divine grace for all those churchmen today who, by their words and deeds, contradict the Divinely revealed truth about Jesus Christ and His Church as the only path by which men can reach God and eternal salvation. With the help of divine grace, may these churchmen be enabled to offer a public retraction, required for the good of their own soul and the souls of others. For “not accepting Christ is the greatest danger for the world!” (St. Hilary of Poitiers, In Matth. 18).

By the prayers, tears and sacrifices of all the true sons and daughters of the Church, and especially of the “little ones” in the Church, may the Shepherds of the Church, and first and foremost Pope Francis, receive the grace to emulate the Apostles, countless Martyrs, numerous Holy Roman Pontiffs and a multitude of Saints, especially St. Francis of Assisi, who “was a Catholic and an entirely apostolic man, who set about personally and commanded his disciples to occupy themselves before everything else with the conversion of the heathen to the Faith and Law of Christ.” (Pope Pius XI, Encyclical Rite Expiatis, 37)

We believe and, with God’s grace, are ready to give our lives for this Divine truth pronounced by Jesus Christ: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
