Is This The New Normal?

Hey are actively participating in the allowance of the breaking of federal immigration law by harboring illegals. In fact they invite them.
They were bussed there by Texas, too, or did we forget that? I think the claim was “now they’re your problem, and Boston accepted them.

Trump 1.0's National Security Advisor John Bolton's House Raided by FBI

A little clarity:

"During the first Trump administration, the Justice Department opened a criminal investigation into Mr. Bolton after publication of his 2020 book, “The Room Where It Happened.”
At first, the White House tried to block publication of the manuscript, arguing Mr. Bolton had not sought appropriate approvals. The court rejected the effort.
Separately, a federal grand jury issued subpoenas as part of a criminal investigation. While there has been little noticeable activity on the case for years, it continued into the Biden administration and has become more active in the second Trump term." --NYT
This is informative. However, the case remained open for four years. If Bolton were not implicated, it would be expected that the FBI would have closed the investigation during that period.

edited - just another poster saying DOJ closed the case during Biden administration.

FBI raids home of John Bolton, former Trump national security advisor

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Do we know the contents of the warrant and the probable cause which was affirmed?

Democrat Appellate Judge overturns half billion dollar fine

Are you saying the banks never appraised anything and just loaned him the money? None of the banks said he defrauded them. They all got paid, right? James ran on "I am going to get Trump"...
Bad faith argument.

If you don't understand how Trump broke the law read the court documents. It is not rhe obligation of posters here to inform you of such basic information.

1. He still did it.
2. He still broke the law

But listening to him speek you'd think he was exonerated.

But there's no inherent racism in the system. It's classist. Or maybe both but likely.

Rich white guys break the law all the time (in fact it was one of the arguments in defence of trump). Sooo often that the prosecution of Trump was characterized as targeted.

A black guy sells after market cigarettes and ends up getting killed by the police.

Illegal Immigration

Nonexistent.
I have no doubt that there are cases in which government representatives have illegally or unjustly used law enforcement resources to punish personal or political opponents. The problematic part is trying to apply that to Trump.

The reality is that running for public office - especially the presidency - puts your life and the lives of those around you under a microscope. Illegal activities that you might otherwise have gotten away with may come to light, and when they do, you might end up getting prosecuted for them or facing other personal or political consequences. This goes for both sides of the political aisle. Do you think anyone would have cared about Hunter Biden if his father hadn't run for president? John Edwards probably would still have a political career (and possibly even his marriage) without his presidential run. And so on.

Im simply asking anyone to show me something I can gain enlightenment from, or appreciation of, in regards to anything within Palestinian culture.
No one can show you that, it's a quest you will have to make for yourself. No doubt there are elements in any culture from which you could gain enlightenment from or appreciate. But, just as a suggestion, Palestinian culture offers us an example of resilient Nationalism which has lasted for over a century. Whether you can appreciate or gain enlightenment from it is up to you.

Whitehouse liat of complaints...

Provided to the Smithsonian.

White House releases list of Smithsonian exhibits it objects to

Awwwwww. The president doesn't like what's in the world famous museum. He thinks history is meannie weenie.

We can all agree the best thing to do is change history right?

It's hard to take this guy seriously. And it so sad people can't handle their own history; refuse to acknowledge the bad things in history. Just refusing to take, not even responsibility, but just acknowledge it happens.

Their own misdeeds are so hard to hear.

Jesus & Social Justice

Depends on if you are Christian or not. Under most religions, this would be true but amongst Christians this isn't how it works.

We all deserve death because we all have sinned. Since Jesus died for those sins, we have an out, through faith.

We look at justice through the same lens. Compassion.
The exercise of which compassion had to be bought and paid for with the execution of justice, where there was no compassion to the one suffering the execution of that justice.

“It’s inappropriate and inaccurate,” Larson testified. “I should have been told, and an appraisal should have been ordered.”

This is how it works. The state of NY has rules. That NY statute I noted. It is there so all citizens of NY have a level playing field when comes to the lucrative and competitive market of NY real estate. If one entity is lying about their assets in light of cheaper interest rates and premiums while lying about their tax liabilities, they are literally defrauding the other citizens of NY who do those same kind of investments. The NY AG is the representative of the people of NY, which why the indictment was filed. With that said, if for example Trump as with is past six bankruptcies had to file again and defaulted on those loan(s), then yes that bank would have sure fire took Trump to court for inflating his assets.

Trump 1.0's National Security Advisor John Bolton's House Raided by FBI

NBC reports that the investigation on Bolton began under Christopher Wray.
And it was closed a year later.

Justice Department drops Trump-era criminal probe and lawsuit related to John Bolton’s book

Wed June 16, 2021

The Justice Department has closed its year-old criminal investigation into former Trump national security adviser John Bolton and dropped a related lawsuit connected to the publication of his book about the ex-President’s diplomatic bungling.

The Trump-era criminal investigation had scrutinized whether Bolton’s book illegally revealed national security information, while the lawsuit had sought to grab royalties from Bolton for publishing his book without the administration’s full approval.

Career lawyers [at DOJ] had long viewed the civil and criminal cases as politically tainted because of the involvement of top White House officials and the former president’s public statements.

Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that Bolton could seek evidence about the classification process around his book in case there was bad faith decision-making by the White House and intelligence community meant to protect Trump politically.

That decision had put the Justice Department in a potentially difficult spot, as the door had opened for Bolton’s legal team to push to interview under oath people around the President.

A long-time government official specializing in classification had stepped forward last fall to allege the Trump White House mishandled classification around the book, and said she believed she had been forced out of a job because of the then-President’s ire toward Bolton.

Trump Threatens Federal Takeover of Washington After Member of DOGE Is Assaulted

Defense Secretary Hegseth authorizes National Guard troops to carry arms in DC

The new authority is expected to be acted on in coming days, the person said.

"You got to be strong, you got to be tough," Trump told Guard personnel at the U.S. Park Police Anacostia Operations Facility. "You got to do your job. Whatever it takes to do your job."

“You do the job on safety, and I'll get this place fixed up physically, and we're going to be so proud of it at the end of six months,” he said.

“But let's say at the end of the year, this place will be maxed out in terms of beauty. You'll have all new surfaces. You'll have all new medians, everything's going to look beautiful,” he added.
That's not something that happens overnight.

"Let's get 2000 National Guard troops into DC right away!"

"Yes sir! Done, sir!"

"Good! Are they armed?"

"Oh...did you want them to be armed? Umm. Most of the troops we rushed into the city were support troops, because that's mostly what we have...they aren't currently qualified to carry arms. That's going to take a while. We'll have to swap out the ones we have there now for troops who are currently qualified."

Can you be more specific? Culture is generally defined as the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group. Which of those elements to you find to be inferior?

They had ample time to get to the point of a needing raid. In fact it seems rather late in the game.

I'm not saying I know this investigation is unwarranted. Just that the promise of revenge motivated persecution casts doubt that this is an application of law against this guy in particular..

Book Of Enoch And The Flat-earth

I think we can agree I am not your friend.
No. That is not at all what I am saying. I say the words should FIRST be read, then it should be decided whether or not they are literal, fictional, mythical, lies, rhetoric, etc., etc. You insist upon a literal reading. I consider that to be a foolish approach.
I think we're struggling with semantics.

I know what it is to literally read the word "the". I don't know what it means to read it literally, objectively, subjectively, metaphorically, or allegorically.

When we read "Noah built an ark", or "Huck stole a raft", or "Tom went up to the house", we can begin to assess meaning.

(I'll reassert that the words objective and subjective are useless for this discussion. Let's just understanding what and how we understand what the author wrote.)

In the three sentences above, every one can/could agree that the sentences are to be read literally. That is, a person named Noah put some effort into transforming materials into something we'd call an ark; Huck took a raft without permission of the presumed owner; Tom went to a house whatever the and up means.

It's almost certain the authors meant us to understand the sentences literally. But, what to we take with us? Who was Noah? Huck? Tom?

Well, if we were raised in a culture steeped in the Abrahamic religions, we automatically assume Noah of the Bible. If we are American, we probably get Huck Finn. None of us probably can guess who Tom might be (cuz I made it up, without a conscious reference to anything.)

So now we discover that the reader brings something to the table. (Here, I find the phrase "death of the author" deliciously ironic, but let that go.) Our culture deeply influences our interpretation.

So, did the author want us to understand that Noah actually built an actual ark? What did the author believe about what he wrote? Just a story? An allegory? History? Why did he include the story at all? Whatever he thought he was writing, there was a reason to tell the story. Perhaps all he wanted to say was that it happened. I'd say then that that would be a useless thing for a religious text. Perhaps he wanted to convey something about the nature of the relationship between God and man.

If the latter, that meaning is conveyed regardless of the historicity of the story.

In contrast, Twain both meant you to understand his sentence literally and as fiction.

And Tom? Well, we'd need more context before we'd be able to assess that sentence.

To circle back, it's not clear that there is a correct default way to read anything. You get clues from where and how you came across the text (e.g., what section of the library). And you bring yourself to the text; that is, you interpret the text from your own cultural accumulations.

(This is a long way of saying that I agree with @Ophiolite .)

Please tell me what I can learn from Palestinian culture, that could enlighten me in any way at all.

If you can think of some things, then I might re-evaluate my position. But at this point in time, I don't see this as ethnocentrism, but rather as an obvious example of an inferior culture.

Trump 1.0's National Security Advisor John Bolton's House Raided by FBI

According to available information, Bolton’s investigation began during the Biden administration under then-FBI Director Christopher Wray. President Trump and the current FBI Director were not responsible for initiating this investigation.

However, your statement that no one is above the law may be misleading. There appear to be instances in America where individuals are seemingly not held accountable under the law. For example, how can one explain a person with 34 felony convictions receiving 312 electoral college votes?
