  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has Kirk's Death Prompted You?

So has Kirk’s death prompted you to be more outspoken? As I said, it has prompted me to be s better listener. A few years ago I read an article “what is the point of spiritual care: a narrative approach. It really helped me listen and connect to anyone I talk with. From time to time I need to be reminded. Effective communication is about so much more than me making my points.
If Charlie Kirk's death has prompted you to be a better listener, then that is good. But we need to make sure that, as well as doing good deeds and listening, we also speak. How shall they hear without a preacher? If Charlie had only listened to everyone without speaking, then we would never have known of Him.
The Holy Spirit was given so that we would have boldness to speak and be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

Never happened.

The Biden administration countered it was persuading social media platforms to limit problematic content that included lies and misleading claims, which the surgeon general had warned would put lives at risks. It added that many of the flagged posts also went against the companies' internal policies.

So yes they did pressure them. They admit it.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

A Republican tried to kill Trump on July 13, 2024. Hundreds of Republicans tried to assassinate Pence & Pelosi, and overthrow the government, Jan 6, 2021. The conspirators who plotted against Whitmer were sentenced in Dec 2022, though Trump is talking about pardoning them, which is another example of the right promoting violence.
Nope never happened.

Citing Charlie Kirk murder, Tennessee pastor demands removal of 'Hate Has No Home' signs

But it's what gets conflated for hatred that's the sticking point.
In my post, I answered this to an extent but to be honest, it was mostly in a "school" context with the posters that are approved by my school board.
Anything less than "let me do whatever I want, all the time" and "abandon your own viewpoints in favor of giving nothing less than full-throated support for mine" gets labelled as hate, when that's not the case.
Listen. If you're going to say 4 people making comments online about something like this is worthy of consternation, I don't know what to say. There have been all manner of people and they've always existed but thanks to the internet we are now force to deal with their existence or just ignore them, thinking they are unreasonable.
I have never EVER heard anything like what you say but i have to give space because everything exists.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

He didn't label him as MAGA. He said it was the MAGA faithful trying desperately to disassociate themselves from any involvement. There's a difference. Which actually makes no difference.

It really doesn't matter who he supported or which side of the political fence he stood. It's relevant if you want to debate someone. It's relevant if you want to argue your position against someone else's. It's completely irrelevant if you want to shoot someone in the throat.

That's not a political position.
I personally think he should be able to say anything he wants. But if advertisers and broadcasters cancel him or viewers tune out those are the consequences.
And I don’t think a representative of the FCC should have chimed in.

Trump dispenses with trials, orders military strike on alleged Venezuelan drug-trafficking boat (Now up to 2, 3, 4...)

Draft Bill Would Authorize Trump to Kill People He Deems Narco-Terrorists

Potential legislation circulating in the executive branch and Congress would grant President Trump sweeping military powers.
--
related commentary from the guy behind Just Security.

But the text is really quite striking. It is modeled on the 2001 Authorization of Use of Military Force, which has been the principal statutory authority for the U.S. war on terror for the use of force against the Taliban, against Al Qaeda, ISIS, Al Shabaab, and other Al Qaeda and ISIS affiliates. And it really gives the president a blank check to use force anywhere in the world against anyone he designates under the provisions of this as a narco-terrorist. There are no geographic restrictions, so potentially they could include the United States. It would provide detention authority.

Again, the administration is not engaged in counterterrorism in the same way that the U.S. was against Al Qaeda or ISIS. And it is not responding to an armed attack on the United States akin to 9/11. OK, on 9/11, Al Qaeda mounted an armed attack against the United States and killed almost 3,000 people. That is not the scenario here. Moreover, in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, it wasn’t immediately clear who all the perpetrators were. So that is why the 2001 AUMF, the model for this new legislation, provided discretion to the president to determine who the force would be used against, because it wasn’t known to Congress. It was assumed to be bin Laden, but they didn’t know the full list of perpetrators, organizations that might have been involved. So that is not the scenario here.
Sounds like a good bill to me. Get rid of any and all narco-terrorists. They perpetuate an evil upon the American prople killing more people in the US than ISIS ever did.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

Mr. Kimmel went after Mr. Trump's supporters in his Monday program, calling them “the MAGA gang” during his monologue, and said they were “desperately trying” to paint the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, “as anything other than one of them.”

What quote in the monologue did you object to?

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced it will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations, replacing it with news programming, despite ABC's decision to reinstate Kimmel after a suspension for insensitive comments made about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Sinclair stated that discussions with ABC are ongoing to evaluate the show's return, and that they will not air Kimmel's show until formal discussions are held regarding professionalism and accountability, and Kimmel issues an apology to the Kirk family and makes a significant donation to Turning Point USA.

Advent is coming soon, and the Music Director just distributed the song list! WoooHooo

Does the accompaniment or chant vs metric song matter? Is it less depressing as an unaccompanied chant than it is as an accompanied metric song?
Something less draggy and without all those minor chords.

(I can also sing the Hail Mary to the tune of "Anchors Aweigh", BTW.) ;)
