  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Never happened. Thats not what he said.
Mr. Kimmel went after Mr. Trump's supporters in his Monday program, calling them “the MAGA gang” during his monologue, and said they were “desperately trying” to paint the accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, “as anything other than one of them.”

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced it will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations, replacing it with news programming, despite ABC's decision to reinstate Kimmel after a suspension for insensitive comments made about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Sinclair stated that discussions with ABC are ongoing to evaluate the show's return, and that they will not air Kimmel's show until formal discussions are held regarding professionalism and accountability, and Kimmel issues an apology to the Kirk family and makes a significant donation to Turning Point USA.

What quote in the monologue did you object to?

A Republican tried to kill Trump on July 13, 2024. Hundreds of Republicans tried to assassinate Pence & Pelosi, and overthrow the government, Jan 6, 2021. The conspirators who plotted against Whitmer were sentenced in Dec 2022, though Trump is talking about pardoning them, which is another example of the right promoting violence.
Never happened.

He didn't label him as MAGA. He said it was the MAGA faithful trying desperately to disassociate themselves from any involvement. There's a difference. Which actually makes no difference.

It really doesn't matter who he supported or which side of the political fence he stood. It's relevant if you want to debate someone. It's relevant if you want to argue your position against someone else's. It's completely irrelevant if you want to shoot someone in the throat.

That's not a political position.
I personally think he should be able to say anything he wants. But if advertisers and broadcasters cancel him or viewers tune out those are the consequences.
And I don’t think a representative of the FCC should have chimed in.

Never happened.

The Biden administration countered it was persuading social media platforms to limit problematic content that included lies and misleading claims, which the surgeon general had warned would put lives at risks. It added that many of the flagged posts also went against the companies' internal policies.

So yes they did pressure them. They admit it.

Yeah, Democrats do it so well
You seem to be somehow confusing a critique of what Kirk stood for - and I personally agree with everything that AOC said, I have no problem with anyone making such statements, with the president, at the guy's funeral, calling for the country to come together to reject political violence.

The two positions are not mutually exclusive. I'll stand by what AOC said and I'll also stand by the snippet of speech that I would have expected Trump to have delivered.

Notwithstanding that you're back to the schoolyard arguments: 'If she did it then why can't I'. The two aren't connected whatsoever. If you think they are connected and what you think she said is wrong then you are tacitly agreeing that what Trump said was wrong. Or rather that he wasn't wrong in not calling for the country to join together in unity.

There were other parts of Trump’s speech that were good, and in his own way he was giving Kirk a compliment, that Kirk could love his enemies even though he can’t.
But divisive rhetoric is not exclusive to Trump.
Newsome tweeted today that Noem is going to have a bad day. There are a lot of ways you can take that.
I don’t see anyone giving a speech like you suggested except Charlie Kirk’s widow.
(It was a good suggestion though)

What did Trump actually say?
A lot of it was based on common sense, by the way. Charlie wrote back to the staff member saying, "I'm not here to fight them. I want to know them and love them, and I want to reach them and try and lead them into a great way of life in our country." In that private moment on his dying day, we find everything we need to know about who Charlie Kirk truly was. He was a missionary with a noble spirit and a great, great purpose. He did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them.

(24:38)
That's where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent, and I don't want the best for them. I'm sorry. I am sorry, Erika. But now Erika can talk to me and the whole group, and maybe they can convince me that that's not right, but I can't stand my opponent.

(24:59)
Charlie's angry. Looking down, he's angry at me now. He wasn't interested in demonizing anyone. He was interested in persuading everyone to the ideas and principles he believed were good, right and true. Before each appearance, he prayed these words. "God use me for your will." Always said the same thing. "Use me for your will."

The mourners laughed. The president can make grieving people at a funeral laugh.
Is that really so bad?

A lot of openness from Trump on this. He's always been an open guy about what he thinks about stuff, right or wrong. I think this seems to be a bare your soul moment for him. Maybe, just maybe this will help him to get closer to rhe Lord. I sure hope so.

There were like 250,000 people there rhat filled up two stadiums and other places. There were millions on line around the world. This really was an amazing moment. People around the world gave their lives to Christ.

Despite the lefts hateful rhetoric people came to honor a good man and Christ was glorified. Let God be true and every man a liar.

It's amazing how many folks don't seem to know the difference between suspended and fired. And that lifting a suspension, which is what's supposed to happen since suspensions are only temporary, ends up as ABC/Disney stood against "the autocracy" etc.

Whether he personally can or can't, it's his job to do his best to bring the country together at times like this. He did just the opposite.
But divisive rhetoric is not exclusive to Trump.
Newsome tweeted today that Noem is going to have a bad day. There are a lot of ways you can take that.
I saw his tweet. I also saw, on the same day, his moves to ban mask wearing by ICE. The one is obviously connected to the other. There is no possible way that he would have randomly posted a threat like that. Absolutely none.
I don’t see anyone giving a speech like you suggested except Charlie Kirk’s widow.
Someone like Obama perhaps? Obama condemns Charlie Kirk's killing, calls political violence 'a threat to all of us'

Speaking in Erie, Pennsylvania, at the Jefferson Educational Society, a nonprofit think tank, with moderator Steve Scully, Obama said that Kirk's murder was "horrific and a tragedy," adding that the nation's democratic system is grounded in the principle that people can disagree without resorting to violence.

"And when it happens to some, but even if you think they’re, quote, unquote, on the other side of the argument, that’s a threat to all of us," he said. "And we have to be clear and forthright in condemning them."

Or Harris? Kamala Harris, Barack Obama, top Democrats condemn Charlie Kirk shooting.

"I am deeply disturbed by the shooting in Utah. Doug and I send our prayers to Charlie Kirk and his family," Harris, the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee, wrote on X.

"Let me be clear: Political violence has no place in America. I condemn this act, and we all must work together to ensure this does not lead to more violence."

Or Newsom? MSN

“The best way to honor Charlie’s memory is to continue his work. Engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse.”

He added: “In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence. Honest disagreement makes us stronger; violence only drives us further apart and corrodes the values at the heart of this nation.”

I could go on all afternoon.

Exactly. Obama said the right things and pointed out that Trump didn't. I've been doing the same to show you that that is entirely possible.

But as vicious as the hordes of hateful, random leftists have been on social media, it’s the mainstream outlets that behaved most shamefully when news of Kirk’s shooting broke.

They revealed how much contempt they truly have for their fellow citizens who disagree with them.

As news broke about the shooting, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd appeared on Katy Tur’s program and said that Kirk was perhaps shot by one of his own supporters in “celebration.” Dowd, a “Never Trump” former Republican who was the chief strategist on President George W. Bush’s 2004 election campaign, insinuated that it was Kirk’s fault that he got shot because of his “hate speech.”

Dowd was fired for his comments but as he has pointed out no one is complaining about his firing
