  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We have an Archbishop of Canterbury

The hyperventilating I'm seeing online about, there's the end of hope for unity (amongst ourselves, with Rome, with Orthodoxy, whatever) is seriously annoying me. None of those folks wanted unity anyway. This doesn't change that. It just says, we're not going to refuse to put our convictions into practice out of fear of other people's bad behaviour.

There’s a Giant Flaw in Human History

He was proposing technology he believed to be within the scope of Egyptian craftsmen of the time. You are not.
Actually no he did not think it within the Egyptian tech of the time. He thought this was beyond the capabilities of anyone for that time as the tech was even beyond what he knew for his time let alone some 4,000 plus years earlier.
BTW, the proper technical term for your "bent stick" is "boring bar," which would be the same tool used if the vases were made on a modern lathe today.
Thansks. Its not be the same tech as the 'boring bar' which was a wobbly and unstable rotation. Thats how it spun by having a wobble. Whereas the lathe tech required for the level of precise symmetry and circularity requires tight tolerances where the device is near perfectly still like a lathe.

That is why its commonly acknowledged it was some sort of lathing rather than the 'boring bar' or hand made.

The problem is the predynastics such as the Naqada culture (3,600BC) did not even have the 'boring bar' or potters wheel let alone a sophisticated lathe. They made pottery by the coil and slab-building method because they had no potters wheel which both did not come until near a 1,000 years later in 2600BC.

The potter's wheel was introduced to Egypt from the Levant during the reign of Pharoh Sneferu in the 4th dynasty (c.2600 BC).

Anyone up for a chat thread?

Glad to hear it all went well. And prayers for continued healing.

I am in the very weird position that I've physically moved, I'm due to start work in a week, and the bishop has only announced one half of the dual role he's offered me. The other half is still under wraps, and I'm really not sure what's going on there. Far out...

Tithing. What are first fruits in a non agrarian society?

I have been unemployed for a long time now (19 months) due to the AI dessimation of the IT job market. Honestly nobody really saw that coming nor prepared for it. But not the point I need to make.

To make ends meet I am driving ride share, doesn't matter which one, but I am hustling my tail off, working 12 hour days to make less than 1/4 of what I was earning before just so I don't have to end up on the streets.

I know I should tithe, but on what amount?

Let's assume I earned $5,000.00 in fares, and tips last month. That number is high, but let's go with it anyway.
Now let's assume that I spend $250.00 each week on gas and toll road tolls to do this, so my net is $4,000.00, and the weekly spend on fuel and tolls is likely LOW...
Now assume further in doing this I needed $3,000.00 in vehicle repairs to keep my car SAFE to operate for myself and my riders. Now my net is $1,000.00

Do I tithe on the $5,000.00 GROSS, or the $1,000.00 NET?

For anyone paying attention, that is 288 hours to get $1,000.00 net income and a car with an added 10K miles on it. That works out to $3.47 per hour.

If you rideshare and don't tip. You may want to look at those numbers again. Would you work for $3.47 / hour and wear out a valuable asset like a car?
If you run a business (ride sharing is that) you should look at your net business income if you want to tithe, but are you a Jew observing the Law of Moses? There is no tithing law for Gentile believers although it's still a wonderful principle and basically all our assets belong to Him.

Trump Orders Flags to Half-Staff for Charlie Kirk

Intelligent people frequently fall into the fallacy that, because they know a lot about a particular subject, they know a lot about everything. When they start going public with those thoughts, that can go badly for them.

Frankly, I've never heard of the guy.
Not just intelligent people, actors and musicians as well

Had that not happened, he'd still have been a golden boy of the progressives...at least until 2020, when he said some other things about vaccine mandates that got them bent out of shape.

Elon Musk says he canceled his Netflix account — and urges his followers to as well

How did what I said self-contradict? I suggested that the show in question wasn't merely "presenting a different viewpoint" but was indeed trying to influence opinions.
And I contend that the primary purpose of media is to "influence opinions." Sometimes, those opinions are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, and sometimes they have political or social implications. Sometimes the intent is obvious, and other times it's disguised. But all media is intended to make you feel a certain way about something.

The point is that your implication that this particular show is somehow nefarious or out of line is specious.
Where was the pervasive influence in shows like Full House?
I've never seen a single episode of Full House, so I couldn't possibly tell you.

New Here from North Carolina

Hey there!

My name is Lynn, and I was given my middle name Maria when I was baptized this Easter. It has been a long journey toward my faith, which took me from the streets of Brooklyn and the noise of NYC, to a quiet town in North Carolina.

Prayer is still difficult for me, as all the noise of my own mind bothers me. But being an active member of my church, and part of my science fiction group, helps me balance science and faith.

I am also an aspiring author, and accountant by trade.

Would love to chat and meet people, so drop me a line!

God Bless.

Did The Fallen Angel 'Samyaza' Manipulate DNA ?

Our little publishing company published both the Book of Enoch and Jasher. They sell pretty well, and there are generally no complaints on the Amazon reviews. Some of the long parts are hard to drudge through. But the opening chapters of both books are worth the read.

I didn't say anything about them not deserving opinions, I'm just rejecting the notion that before he became a performative reactionary that Bret W. was someone that us progressive-leaning, pro-science types paid attention to.
We recently passed a population of 8 billion people on planet Earth. I'm sure neither of us are paying attention to most of them.

Border Patrol calls for help, Chicago PD does not respond

It was the neighbourhood, not the building: From here: Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: ‘I feel defeated’

'The feds also claimed the South Shore neighborhood was “a location known to be frequented by Tren de Aragua members and their associates,” but DHS gave no evidence to support the assertion, and authorities did not confirm that any of the people arrested were members of the Venezuelan gang.'

These are actions that you might expect to see in Columbia or Venezuela. Not in the US.
Can we get back on topic now?

The DHS said the building was targeted because it was “known to be frequented by Tren de Aragua members and their associates.”

The will of the father in Matthew 7:21-23.

James said that he would show his faith through his works, so we embody what we believe through our works and everyone who is a doer of the same works as James believes in the Son. If you came across a rope bridge that someone told you was safe, then the way to believe that it is safe is by crossing the bridge. Someone who is born again is someone who embodies God’s likeness through being a doer of His character traits, which is why those who are not doers of righteous works in obedience to the Mosaic Law are not children of God (1 John 3:4) and why Paul contrasted those who are born of the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to the Mosaic Law (Romans 8:4-14).

I agree. A sign of the spirit is works is what James was saying. A true believer born of the spirit will have fruit as Jesus teaches in John 15:2 & 6:

2 Every branch in me that doesn't bear fruit he takes away and every branch that bears fruit he prunes that it may bear more fruit.

6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

So... Yeah... totally agree with you. Rebirth will show fruit.

Border Patrol calls for help, Chicago PD does not respond

Chicago police records shared with the Sun-Times show that a Border Patrol agent had called for assistance, reporting that roughly 30 agents had been “surrounded by a large crowd of people.” But police officials weren’t sent to help, the records show.
I can't believe that between ICE, Boarder Patrol, military, FBI and Homeland Security officers, they could not handle this situation. Rammed? Boxed in? Since when are these individuals so helpless?

Maybe a set up....who knows.
