What Christian careers (other than missionary) let you travel the world?

Graduating college next year. Still have no clue what I'm going to do with my Christian Studies degree, but love traveling (even for work). Don't think I could be a missionary as that may not be my gift, but open to all ideas. Interested to hear your thoughts, experiences, etc.

The fruit of repentance

My dear Brothers and Sisters. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham have all come forward and publicly admitted they lied to us all. They did it for MONEY and RATINGS. Rupert Murdoch when questioned about this said he KNEW they were lying and supported it. Many alleged religious leaders among us pushed the lies. Who is their spiritual father? Not YHVH! We know who the father of lies is and his name is Belial.

Jesus called out the religious leaders of His day identifying them as followers of Belial and demanded fruits of repentance. Are we less obligated to follow His example? Many alleged "Christians" (followers of Jesus) were beguiled by this crafty deception and many were sold the lie as if it were the truth. What should we say to our alleged "religious leaders"? Should they not show an effort to repent? Where is the fruit?

So many of us have been conned and convinced by them and now they are still supporting the lies, but why? Whitened Sepulchres full of dead men's bones! What would the actual Jesus say? "IF THEY REPENT forgive them! Do they have His Spirit (Isaiah 58:5-12). If NOT are they really His (Romans 8:9)?

My main concern are not these individuals though Sean and Laura both claim to be followers of Jesus but rather the alleged "Religious Leaders" and Pastors. Will they continue to push the Belial agenda? What about the heart of Jesus expressed in Matthew 25:31-46? Will they publicly admit they were wrong and correct the people they influenced?

Disgust with past classmate

Hi all

as you know, the title uses very strong and provocative words. but it is the way I feel. Let me explain. I met this girl eleven years ago in a high school I went to briefly for about 2-3 months. from what I can remember, she was a little above average in her studies, but there was something about her that was sort of unlikable. even in our friend group most of us would hardly talk to her, never mind classmates outside our friend group. anyway, I met her by chance, in a psych ward. we have the same mental illness. this was the first time for me hearing about this about her. there was another thing that I didn't know too: in this 11 years, she hadn't received any tertiary education, and the only thing she was doing with her life was sleeping with new men almost every night. When she told me this, the way of her speaking, told me that she was somehow proud of this, as if she was influenced by the media and thought it was a 'cool' thing. Keep in mind we are almost 30 this year.

I'm so sorry but I felt extremely disgusted. I spoke to her because we were in the same psych ward anyway and I didn't want to be rude. And then when I returned home I sent her messages about Jesus, urging her to turn her life around, giving other practical advice like how to find cheap to free courses that can help her in getting a job, and if she didn't want to study she could train in something vocational like cutting hair or applying make up. I also told her to buy a bible. Then I told her I would speak to her once a week, but after a few hours I changed my mind and blocked her and deleted her number from my phone.

I know a lot of you would feel that I was being judgemental, harsh and prideful, but please hear me out. I blocked her and deleted her number because
1) I have a mental illness myself and we all know the company we keep will shape us into who we ultimately become.
2) I am afraid of her. She is obviously bad company. She is poor, and to fall so far down in life this way (sleeping around so much), says something about the integrity of her character, not to mention the men whom she sleeps with. What if they decide they want to hurt me in some way?
3) I just don't like her. I already told you even eleven years ago no one really liked her. I think when everyone doesn't like someone, it kind of is our sixth sense telling us something. I can give you examples of the numerous times I have ignored this type of warning from my intuition and ended up in fixes.

But I felt guilty, like I was ignoring someone in need. so I prayed to God about it and a few hours later I came across the verse in Psalms 1:1-2. but the problem is, though I don't feel guilty any longer, I still feel disgust, anger and fear, and these past two to three days she has always been on my mind. Not always, but frequently. I think the reason for this is because all of the people I associate with are wealthy successful people, and I am not used to meeting someone like her, so this is a shock to my system, that is why it keep staying with me. but it is something else too and I don't know what it is. she doesn't know my home address, et cetera, so it's not like I am in any real danger. I have been praying for her, asking God to send someone better equipped to help her. I just don't like that I keep unintentionally thinking of her so frequently.

Can someone give me some advice on what to do? What would you do if you were in my position, and what would you have done?
SplendidSeraphim
SplendidSeraphim
It sounds like you have some mixed feelings. You care about your safety and well-being. Those are all very genuine concerns. On the other hand, what if God treated us this way? What if God felt we were just too dirty and didn't feel like associating with us because we were poor in character?

But if it's not safe for you, or would hurt you in some way, then maybe you can pray for her regularly :)

MAGA-style GOP trustees take over North Idaho College Board; results in 5 presidents in one year, credit rating drop, and maybe loss of accreditation

For most of the past two years, the college’s governing board has been a volatile experiment in turning grievances into governance. Trustees backed by the county Republican Party hold a majority on the board. They have denounced liberal “indoctrination” by the college faculty and vowed to bring the school administration’s “deep state” to heel and “Make NIC Great Again.”

OG NYT link: The MAGA-fication of North Idaho College

The injection of such sweeping political aims into the routine administration of a community college of 4,600 students, one better known locally for its technical training programs than the politics of its faculty, has devolved into a full-blown crisis. The school has faced lawsuits from two of the five presidents it has had since the start of the previous school year. A district court judge ordered one of those presidents reinstated Friday in a ruling that castigated the trustees for “steering NIC toward an iceberg.” The college has lost professors and staff and had its debt downgraded by Moody’s, which cited the school's “significant governance and management dysfunction.”

...

In November, Greg McKenzie, the current board chair, dismissed the prospect of losing accreditation as “Fake News” in a letter to constituents.

But at the February meeting, as that loss suddenly seemed like a very real possibility, the trustees appeared somewhat chastened. McKenzie reminded the crowd that members of the accrediting commission were watching via livestream and asked attendees to help avoid the circuslike atmosphere of recent meetings.

...

Banducci’s bloc of trustees eventually fired MacLennan without cause, installing the school’s wrestling coach as interim president.

A little help from someone who understands Greek?

There's a particular radio interview of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou on Youtube that I'm very interested in listening to but can't. There is none that has English subtitles available. The interview is only about 6 or 7 minutes. Would it be possible for any of you Greek speaking members to listen to it and then explain to me what the Metropolitan has said, in summary? Thanks. Hershey’s faces boycott after ad with ‘transgender’ man promotes ‘Women’s Day’ chocolate bar

‘#BoycottHersheys’ trended shortly after Hershey Canada announced its new pro-transgender campaign.

(LifeSiteNews) – The hashtag “Boycott Hershey” trended on Twitter this week after the company used a gender confused man to promote a candy bar intended to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Hershey Canada, the Pennsylvania-based chocolate company’s Canadian branch, used “transgender” rights activist and gender- confused man “Fae” Johnstone to promote a limited edition series of chocolate bars called Her for She, which features Johnstone and four women on the bar’s wrapper in an attempt to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Johnstone announced his participation in Her for She on Twitter Wednesday. The post featured a video of Johnstone with the four women used in the campaign, in which Johnstone is heard saying “We can create a world where everyone is able to live in public space as their honest and authentic selves.”

Conservatives and feminists, reacting to Johnstone’s participation in the campaign, called for a boycott of the candy company, with the hashtag “Boycott Hersheys” trending shortly after Johnstone’s initial tweet. Others noted the irony of a man promoting a candy bar intended to promote women.

What I like...

...about the LCMS parish (I've attended twice).

Altar rails.
Kneeling to take communion (I haven't yet).
Pastor faces the altar and not the people.
Absolution! (never thought I'd enjoy that but wow).
The liturgy in general.

The Pastor's preaching is direct and short. After years of listening to Baptists and Reformed Pastors preach long winded messages I find the 20 minutes or less refreshing.

The people are nice but standoffish. I can tell they do not get many visitors.

I'm going back next Lord's Day.

Yours in the Lord,

Jessa Duggar’s miscarriage is not an abortion, OB-GYNs say

Pro-life doctors are emphasizing the difference between abortion and miscarriage after some media commentators and outlets claimed that a former reality TV star, Jessa (Duggar) Seewald, had an abortion.

“In a move meant to manipulate the public, abortion proponents have attempted to equivocate miscarriage and abortion,” Dr. Christina Francis, board member and CEO-elect of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), told Our Sunday Visitor. “This is not only false but it also exploits the heartache that so many women and families have experienced through the loss of a child.”

Jessa, best known for being a part of the Duggar family and starring in the TLC series “19 Kids and Counting,” recently shared that she suffered from a missed miscarriage over the holidays. In an 18-minute YouTube video published Feb. 24, the 30-year-old revealed that she underwent a D&C (dilation and curettage) — a procedure used both in abortion and after miscarriages.

In response, some media outlets accused Jessa, who is pro-life, of having an abortion.

“While the surgical procedures used to treat miscarriage are also used to perform an induced abortion, there is a major difference. In miscarriage management, the procedures empty the uterus when the fetus or embryo has already passed away of natural causes, while in an induced abortion, the procedure is used to deliberately end the life of a living human being in the womb,” Francis said. “Conflating the two is like saying that cremating a dead body is the same as burning someone alive.

INDONESIA: Official Stops Church Service

A local village official in Indonesia stopped a church service on February 19th, demanding that the church discontinue meeting. This is only one example of the many challenges recently experienced by Christians in Indonesia. For previous reports, and to learn how you can further pray for believers in this Southeast Asian nation, go to our country report.
While members of the Tabernacle of David Christian Church in the village of Rajabasa Jaya were praying together on Sunday morning, a local chief named Wawan Kurniawan leapt over a metre-high fence and stormed into the service. Pushing the pastor aside, Wawan took to the pulpit and demanded that the service end. In response, some of those in attendance asked the chief to be patient, for they were only praying.
While this was happening, ten other villagers entered the church and joined in the chief's demands. During the ensuing turmoil, someone grabbed the pastor by the neck and began to choke him. Eventually, the congregation was forced to disperse. In his defence, Chief Wawan claims that the church does not have a permit to meet – a requirement frequently demanded by local authorities despite the fact that governmental laws guarantee the constitutional right to gather for worship. Because of the violent nature of the confrontation, the matter has been referred to the police.
Speaking of the incident, the Indonesian Churches Association has called on the authorities to take the matter seriously and not "ignore such intolerant actions." The concern is that, if appropriate action is not taken, others could be emboldened to carry out similar acts of harassment against Christians. "At any time, [social friction] can ignite into an open conflict," explains the association's General Secretary, Jacklevyn F. Manuputty.
Pray that Indonesia's authorities will take appropriate action against the villagers involved in this violent incident, and that the country's governing leaders would strive to ensure greater religious freedom is granted to all people. Further, ask God to strengthen the members of this recently attacked church so they will not succumb to the tactics of the enemy. Rather, may they be encouraged to seek His wisdom and guidance so they can respond appropriately in the midst of a potentially volatile environment and, ultimately, continue meeting together for worship without further threat of interference or violence.

INDIA: Christians Denied Humanitarian Aid Rations

Ten Christian families in Bara Chomri village, Madhya Pradesh, have been denied government rations due to their faith affiliation. These families were summoned to a village gathering on January 26th where they were pressured to give up their Christian faith. The believers were told that if they did not comply, they would be denied provisions distributed to the poor by the government.
According to local sources, the families came to faith in Christ four years ago and, consequently, have faced harassment and abuse ever since. About eight months ago, a visiting pastor was leading a worship service when the believers were attacked by militant Hindu nationalists. The pastor was taken into custody and questioned but eventually released with a warning to never enter the village again.
Madhya Pradesh is one of 11 Indian states that enforce anti-conversion legislation, which militant Hindus frequently misuse to harass Christian minorities. For more information on the persecution encountered by Christians in India, go to our country report.
Prayerfully uphold these impoverished Christian families, asking the Lord to meet their urgent practical needs – whether it be through the fair disbursement of provided humanitarian aid or another viable means. Either way, may each one of them find assurance, comfort and peace in the fulfillment of His promised presence and provision (Philippians 4:19). All the while, may the state's governing leaders become enlightened to the various ways their anti-conversion laws are being abused and, as a result, be prompted to duly revise the legislation so justice and harmony will be encouraged among citizens of diverse religions. Although Christians have encountered numerous restrictions and difficulties due to the present laws, pray that their responses would serve as powerful testimonies of God's grace and faithfulness to all who are around them – especially those in need of His eternal salvation.

ALGERIA: Only Ten Churches Remaining Open

One of the many church closures in Algeria.
Photo: Morning Star News

Over the past few years, numerous reports have surfaced from Algeria describing the forcible closure of church buildings and the detainment of various Christian leaders. In one instance, Pastor Salah Chalah and three other believers were charged in December 2021 with "practising non-Muslim rites without permission." To learn more about this incident, and/or to review previously published news reports, go to our country report.
According to the most recent report, four pastors are presently facing trial. The accusations against these Christian leaders include holding a church service in a home and producing Christian media content. As another church was forced to close in January, there are now only ten churches remaining open throughout the entire country of more than 40 million people. The situation remains difficult for followers of Jesus in this nation. "We don't know what's going to happen," states one of them. "Algeria doesn't have democracy or freedom, so they can charge [Christians] with anything."
Continue to pray for Christians in Algeria who are facing uncertainty and ongoing threats. May they be given the strength to respond to situations of persecution with unwavering faith, courage and perseverance. Please also remember those who are being brought before the courts because of their Christian beliefs, asking the Lord to work in the hearts and minds of the judges so they will be encouraged to bring about equitable rulings in each case. Additionally, in the words of a local believer, "Pray that this persecution may lead into a greater expansion [of the church], and that the Gospel may spread even to different nations across North Africa."

Propitiation

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
— 1 John 2:1-2

It’s is commonly understood that propitiation is the atoning sacrifice that appeases God’s wrath. That’s the definition I’m going with here. Looking at this passage, we can conclude one of two things. God's wrath was satisfied for some or for all. Those who think it’s for all take “whole world” prima facia and say God loved the whole world and bore the sins of every man. Those who say it’s only for some look at the context and see the “our sins” as John’s immediate audience, and “whole world” as indicating that it’s just not his audience, but others throughout the world.

My argument against the former is that if God’s wrath is satisfied by His Son’s sacrifice, then He would be unjust for sending anyone to hell. It would be akin to someone paying off my house in full, yet the bank foreclosing on my house. That would not be just.

So it’s best to see “whole world” as referencing people throughout the world, as opposed to every single person in the world.

SPONTANEOUS PRAYER BREAKS OUT IN JERUSALEM’S ACTUAL UPPER ROOM; “T’WAS LIKE A ROAR OF HEAVENLY TONGUES”

"Worship leader Ryan Delling got to capture the special moment and posted to social media. According to Ryan, he had been to Jerusalem’s upper room many times. But always experienced a more revenant atmosphere during his visits. He said, “I have been to the upper room in Jerusalem many times over the years, and I have never seen this happen. Usually, it is fairly quiet with a few group singing songs.”

“But today, four groups were there from different nations, including Brazil, Ghana, [the] United States, and eastern Europe. Spontaneously all of these groups began praying out loud together without any music,” he continued.

Love for God is Obedience

Psalms 103:17-19 ESV

“But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children's children,
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.”

Now, this is not just Old Testament teaching. This is New Testament and New Covenant teaching, too. For, who are those who fear the Lord? They are those who honor, respect, revere, and obey him. They are those who take God and his word seriously, and who do not ignore them, but who put the Word of God into practice in their daily lives. For they are doers of the word and not hearers only who, after they have heard the word, walk away and forget what it teaches them about how they are to live their lives.

Now, we hear a lot these days about God’s unconditional love. Well, he did love the entire world of people enough to send his only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross for our sins. And he loved us while we were still sinners. And we did nothing in ourselves to deserve his love. He gave it to us freely, which is what his grace is all about.

But then we have these Scriptures which speak of God’s love as conditional, when it is speaking of the intimate love he has for those who are truly his by genuine God-given faith in Jesus Christ. If we obey his commandments, it shows that we love Jesus/God. And we who love him are loved by God the Father and God the Son (Jesus Christ), and thus they make their home with us. And if we keep our Lord’s commandments (New Covenant), we abide in his love. But if we don’t obey him, then we don’t love him, and we do not abide in his love, and so we do not have eternal life in him.

And then we read that we know that we have come to know Jesus/God if we keep (obey) his commandments (New Covenant). So, if we claim to know Jesus Christ, but we don’t keep his commandments, then we are liars. So, we don’t know him. And if we love (prefer, long for) the world and the things in the world – the desires of the flesh and of the eyes and the pride of life – then the love of the Father is not in us. And Jesus is the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him. So there are conditions to his love when it speaks of his intimate love for his people.

So, just because God loved the whole world, and while we were yet sinners Jesus Christ died for us, this does not mean that we are in a love relationship with the Lord, and him with us, if we do not love and obey him, in practice, and if sin is still what we practice and not righteousness. We can’t just make a profession of faith in Christ, done deal. We must walk now according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, for if we still make sin our habit (our practice), then we do not know God and we do not love him and we do not have eternal life with him.

Follow Him

An Original Work / February 21, 2013
Based off Luke 9:22-25

Jesus, Son of God,
Died for us on a cross.

Anyone who would come to Him
Must deny himself and follow.
He must take up his cross daily;
Die to sin and self each day.

Father, God above,
Loved us so: gave His Son.

If you want to save your old life;
Keep on sinning, follow your ways,
You will lose your life forever;
Hope of heaven gone away.

Spirit of our God
Gives us life in God’s Son.

Nonetheless, if you die to self;
Forsake your sin; follow Jesus,
You will live with God in heaven,
And forever praise His name!

This is the story of the two prodigal sons. I put a lot of work in this particular video. You will like this video. It has a lot of details in it that show how much God wants us to see people reached with the Gospel. I think the Parable should really be called the Parable of the merciful father. Christians are a gullible lot.

Secular have found it lucrative.
Christian tv now has ads. So we think this site represents God, honesty, integrity, etc. We can trust what they sell here. Anything is being sold on the stations now. When you think about it it is ludicrous. Don't be fooled by wolves in sheep's clothing.
Personally i think we all are being scammed by the latest and greatest scams. COLLAGEN -& OMEGA XL. We're so easily convinced by actors and supposed godly enterprises.

God does things for us?

I am very confused about this.
A very popular minister said this recently, my words. Since i am still confused about it after hearing this sermon twice i still need to hear it again.
He said don't expect God to do things you ask him to do. I've waited 50 years and it hasn't happened. I'm thinking he's talking about things like, help me not to eat to much,. Help me to make this green light. Help me make it to the bathroom, etc. Daily things? I ask God daily so many times for all my needs. This is a shock to me. What do you think?

Students Raise $270,000 So 80-Year-Old janitor Can Retire from Texas High School

High school seniors managed to secure a quarter-million dollars for their sweet, 80-year-old janitor who had to come out of retirement after his rent went up.

The money was raised through a GoFundMe, which started out as a simple goal of $10,000, but quickly took on a goal of its own.

Several seniors at Callisburg high school in Texas noticed their school had a new janitor: “Mr. James” an 80-year-old former retiree whose rent had gone up $400 and needed a job to support it.

How to understand the 1290 days and 1335 days of Daniel 12:11-12

During the 45 days (on the chart below highlighted in blue) between the 1290 days and 1335 days, the kings of the earth will gather their armies at Armageddon with the (in vain) intent of stopping Jesus from executing judgment on them. Psalms 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

First, determine on what day the AoD will be set up to be worshiped. day 2520 - 1335 = day 1185.

Then, count forward from the AoD day - 1290 days.... to get to day 2475. The sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven (the third heaven), i.e. Jesus with sickle in hand, ready to execute judgment on the evil men of the world on day 2475.

In complete terror of Jesus appearing, the kings of the earth assemble their armies at Armageddon for 45 days, in the vain hope of avoiding their demise.

"Jesus Is not the Lord God Almighty" (Ellen White, Lift Him Up, page 253)

"There is no one that can explain the Incarnation of Christ, yet He came as a man and lived among men. The Man, Christ Jesus was not the Lord God Almighty, yet Christ and the Father are one. The Deity did not sink under the agonizing torture of Calvary. Yet it is none the less true that God so loved the World that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth will not perish but have everlasting life."

quote transcribed from Answering Adventism video, Doug Batchelor Fables #8 "The SDA Church's Closest to the Teachings of Jesus?!"

As the Youtuber says "I have heard their Apologists try to give the defense 'No! No No! She was just differentiating between Jesus and the Father'. Folks, she said her words were barricaded by a "Thus says the Lord." The same author behind those words she claims was the same author behind the Scriptures. The Holy Spirit.

The video host also notes similar excuses like "A slip of the pen" where the same retort also applies.

My commentary

People familiar with Nicene Theology and Heresy will see some Arian and Nestorian potential in the previous quote. Adventism has a lot of this, and it is no wonder why "the Pioneers" eschewed the "pagan philosophy" behind the Theology of the Ancient Church. Such theology and its precise Greek terms and formulations were specifically crafted and engineered to prevent confusion and bad and accidental statements/beliefs about the Godhead, Hypostatic union etc. but by eschewing these things and instead embracing their own language and even trying to explain things in a modern folksy way Adventist's and other similar folks essentially make all the old theological mistakes again as the Ancient Heretics by virtue of trying to reinvent the Wheel but using inferior materials in the effort.

PS - another noteworthy comment from Answering Adventism creator is his observation (as a former 3rd generation Adventist), that official Trinitarianism and other classic theology is not a "Foundational" teaching the way the church other teachings on.
This is in agreement with another official statement that I may add if I run across it again that agrees and says that the Church's "Eschatological Message" was where it's priorities were and all other topics like this were on a lower level (This means that stuff like not eating pork, and you shouldn't worship on Sunday are more important than orthodox Trinitarianism and proper Christology). Basically, within a given organization you can have people that are Trinitarians in the common Christian orthodox sense, but also have folks who closely follow "the Pioneers" that are basically Arians or Tri-theists and "it's all good", just as long as everybody follows the Adventist denominational distinctives.

I walked out of church today

I walked out of our Lutheran (ELCA) church this evening, at the evening service (we have been visiting the local UCC church in the mornings). The service began with the pastor introducing the security team leader advising us to not give money to homeless people, because it might attract more or them, and they might use the money to buy alcohol. My blood ran cold, and I just couldn't participate in the service after that, and I left.

As some might know here, I've had issues with how this church handles "security" before. But I think this crosses a line, for many reasons. For one thing, I took an ethics class in college, and one of the lesson plans involved listening to C. Everett Koop discussing ethics with a group of people, and Dr. Koop said he wouldn't have a problem ethically with giving money to somebody who might be an alcoholic, because he understood that alcohol withdrawl can be dangerous . I also think it's incredibly judgemental to assume that a homeless person is an alcoholic and/or wouldn't know how to use the money wisley, like its a subtle denial of the dignity of homeless people in general. It's just wrong on many levels. Jesus said to give to the person who asks, after all.

So, disappointed, I left at the beginning of the service with my S.O. I am not sure what to do now, and I am looking for advice.

I give money to homeless people all the time, everybody in my family does. A year ago I gave money to somebody nonchalantly who was begging at a fast food restaurant. I didn't even consider myself a Christian really anymore, but I just did it out of compassion, without any thought. I wonder how people can be so afraid to help other people and cut them a break? Why are homeless people so scary to some people? I just believe in giving because I want to be the change in the world I want to see. I don't want to be a fearful person who says "no" to somebody else that "makes me uncomfortable". However much discomfort I feel, I'm betting the other person is feeling alot more in asking for money.

REDEMPTION/ATONEMENT: US vs THEM (the L of TULIP)

There are different theories about REDEMPTION.

We all, if we are Christian, believe that Jesus Christ died to redeem.

Beyond that, different people teach a different NATURE of the atonement and a different DESIGN of the redemption. With what follows, I propose to lay out in clear and logical terms how THEIR view is wrong and OUR view is correct. Nothing more and nothing less.

PART I: THEM

THEY claim that Jesus Christ did not die with the intent to save any particular person. When Jesus died, that death did not, all alone and completely by itself, secure the salvation of any specific living human being beyond any shadow of a doubt. THEY teach that Jesus Christ died to make salvation possible for all men and available to all men … that because of Christ’s work of redemption, any man who pleases may obtain eternal life by doing something else.

If THEY are willing to be honest, then THEY will be forced to admit that IF no man was willing to give way and voluntarily surrender to God’s grace, then Christ’s atonement would have saved no one. THEY must admit that in their belief there is no PARTICULARITY in the atonement of Christ for one individual over another. According to THEM, Jesus Christ died on the cross for Judas in hell as much as for Peter in heaven. THEY believe that for every person who is consigned to the eternal fires of hell, there was a redemption made that was every bit as real, and was identical to, the redemption made for every person who stands before the throne in heaven.

PART II: US

WE believe that when Jesus Christ died, that He had an objective in view. WE believe that objective will with complete assurance and beyond any shadow of a doubt be accomplished. WE measure the intent of the death of Christ by the effect that it accomplished. If THEY were to ask US the question:

What was the purpose or intention of Christ’s death?

WE would respond with the obvious answer: “What the death of Christ accomplished.” The measure of the effect IS the measure of the intent when one is speaking of God’s Love. Is is nonsense to think that God Almighty’s intentions could be frustrated by anything! It beggars the imagination that the design of something so great as the Atonement could have in any way, shape or form missed the mark in any measure.

Therefore, WE are not afraid to believe, proclaim and firmly hold that Jesus Christ came into the the world to accomplish exactly what He did accomplish … to save “a multitude which no man can number” [Revelation 7:9]. Furthermore, because of this, WE believe that every person for whom Christ died must - beyond the shadow of a doubt certain:
  • be cleansed from sin
  • be washed in His blood
  • stand redeemed before the Father’s throne
WE do not believe that Jesus made any atonement for those that are damned. Christ only makes EFFECTUAL atonement, Christ does not fail in atoning for people. WE cannot think that the blood of Christ was spilled with the intention of saving those whom GOD Foreknew could never be saved. WE cannot believe that the precious blood of Christ was pointlessly shed for those that were already damned and in hell when (as THEY would have US believe) Christ died to save them!

PART III: THE FALSE ACCUSATION

THEY will often make the accusation of US:

Calvinism limits the atonement of Christ because WE say Christ did not die to bring Sanctification to all men.

This accusation is false, it is THEY that limit the atonement. WE do not.

THEY say Christ died for all men, but that death did not secure the salvation of all men. (Even THEY are not UNIVERSALISTS arguing that there is no hell). THEY teach that Christ did not UNCONDITIONALLY secure the salvation of any man in particular. They teach “Christ died so that any man may be saved if …” - then come the conditions for salvation. Above and beyond this, THEY typically believe that a man can fall from Grace even after they have been justified. So then … who is it that really limits the death of Christ? THEM! THEY say that the death of Christ did not irresistibly secure the death of anybody, but accuse US of limiting the death of Christ.

WE say that Jesus Christ died to, with complete certainty, secure the salvation of “a multitude that no man can number” [Revelation 7:9]. WE say that through Christ’s death this multitude of individuals not only MAY be saved, but MUST be saved, and WILL be saved … there is no possibility of any outcome other than their being saved!

So who really has a limited view of Christ’s death: US or THEM?

Charles Spurgeon presented this issue with a terrific analogy. THEY (Arminians / Free Will / General Atonement) is like a great wide bridge that spans only half way across a river: it does not secure salvation for anybody, but has room for everybody. WE (Calvinist / Reformed / Particular Atonement) is like a narrow bridge that spans all the way across the river: it secures salvation for all who cross it and none others.

Now, I had rather put my foot upon a bridge as narrow as Hungerford, which went all the way across, than on a bridge that was as wide as the world, if it did not go all the way across the stream.“ - C.H. Spurgeon

Me, too.

PART IV: THE VERSE

Those that know me, know that I like a scripture verse to support what I say. Recently I have observed that posting many verses just leads to many bunny trails. Therefore I offer just one verse (from two places):
  • Matthew 20:28 [NKJV] "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
  • Mark 10:45 [NKJV] "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
