  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

That is HILARIOUS!

Not sure what's good to say - I can probably come up with TONS of weird stuff about myself.

People are usually surprised if they see a pic of me on my motorcycle in my younger days. No, not a Harley. But I rode everywhere, including a 1,000 mile round trip road trip. I was EXHAUSTED on the way back, my intercom broke so I was unable to carry on conversation, the vibration from the road and wind was fatiguing, and I actually fell asleep while driving on the interstate. My husband said I just kept speeding up and he was trying to catch me. I dreamed (still remember it) that God and the Coca-Cola man were coming to get me (?!) and woke up to realize that I was going 100+ mph and traffic was STOPPED just in front of me. I stopped as fast as I could without crashing. There was a state trooper standing at the bumper of the car in front of me, watching me. I stopped inches from his knees. He probably thought I was playing some stupid game with him. But he just looked at me, and as I recall I was thanking God I was not dead! (Even though I was not at all religious at that time!)

But yeah, I used to be a "motorcycle Mama"!

I have this sickness----if there's no chocolate in it, I have zero interest in it candy-wise ^_^^_^^_^
I'm pretty much the same way. And not only that, but it nearly always has to be DARK chocolate. I'm severely limited in my candy-interest.

I'm upset that they stopped making Snickers Dark. It's the first time I've enjoyed Snickers in decades.

But every ten years or so, I want a Payday bar.

Hm...another thing about me - I have cousins / aunts / uncles from 7 different countries - 3 different continents. None of them are in Ireland or Italy [emoji846]. I want to travel the world. I studied abroad in Prague (my first visit to an Orthodox Church was there) and I have a list of about 8 more countries I want to visit - plus the ones where my family members live. I have learned (to an extent) Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, Czech, Italian and a smattering of German. I tend to only remember two well at any single point of time though lol. As I mentioned earlier, Italian is the one I currently am learning.

I have been out of the US one time. I walked to Mexico and back - because I could. My car was relatively new at the time and I was thinking my insurance wouldn't cover me there, so I didn't risk driving. It was a rather underwhelming experience.

Family all over the world and that's not where you are visiting. :) That's kinda cool though. I know friends from here and there but my family is here and has been.

Lol that's funny about the languages. I've always studied languages - I don't know why. I sought out bilingual books as a young child. But I get the languages mixed up and forget things. I wouldn't call myself a fluent speaker in any, but I can understand some fairly well. English, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, a little French, smattering of German, very little Chinese and Vietnamese, Latin, and I'm working hard again on Greek, but I guess I'm going to keep working on modern Greek and Biblical Greek at the same time. It's funny to begin a sentence in one language and end up slipping into a couple of others before I get to the end though. I am confusing my poor brain! (Oh, and a couple of words in Russian! Sooooo many great books in Russian, but I don't think I'll live long enough to learn another language well enough to translate. I wish someone would translate!)

Ah, the conversation in the depiction of Jesus thread reminded me, but I don't want to post there. I was wondering the other day - if we live to old age, will we be "old" in our glorified bodies?

We depict the Saints in iconography based on how they were when they died. But then again, they have not received glorified bodies yet.

I suppose if we DO live in eternity in "old" bodies it won't matter, since we won't be vain and we won't have bodily pain. And it might be cool to recognize that earthly wisdom/experience gained by some Saints, for example. I'm comforted by those long white beards! But I don't know ...

Sometimes I wonder about weird stuff. :p

Y'know, maybe I'm forgetting ingredients, but off the top of my head, I'm kinda thinking my two favorites - York peppermint patties and Reese's dark chocolate peanut butter cups - might be totally Lenten food?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Lord have mercy. At least there is NOTHING about this Lenten season that is feeding pride or vainglory. I'm getting different sorts of input. Thank The Lord for truth.

Since we never went through that whole frontier, wild west period, the right to carry arms was never a part of our culture.

Are you sure? I thought the less developed part of the country was still mad max. Aren't hunting rifles common?

Ok, this thread needs to keep going. Let's say some fact about ourselves that nobody would probably ever guess. Weird information.
Those that know me would never guess that I really like folk metal. I have that Ann Taylor prep look going on and suppose I don't look like the type that would be into that sort of thing. I also used to be into martial arts big time. I have a black belt in karate and took aikido for a while.

Them's for shooting animals, not people. Plus they aren't so affective against the lucky country's most dangerous inhabitants, the crocs, sharks, snakes, spiders and the box jellyfish, the most venomous creature on the planet. As they say, there are two kinds of luck ;)

I (hope I will) wrote more about this soon - but I was curious...do you ever use DuoLingo?

I have never even heard of it?

https://www.duolingo.com

Check out the iPhone App. It's an awesome language learning tool. If you start an account, let me know and if your up for it, I'll include you on my leaderboard. It's definitely worth checking out if you love foreign languages.
