  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

I grew up with a Vietnam veteran for a dad. He saw a lot of horrible stuff and made it out alive, lived with PTSD for a while off and on, knows what that war was like. My dad has told me on numerous occasions that he HATED that movie, Platoon, saying it's bull-kaka. He said it's so inaccurate that it's just not even funny. He's a Full Metal Jacket fan.

Full Metal Jacket was a very intense movie when I saw it as a child, btw speaking of Vietnam, and the war in SE Asia, anybody seen the movie "The Killing Fields" about Cambodia, any hipster Bernie Socialist followers should watch that movie as a sober wake up.

The Killing Fields...yep, Sam Waterston, John Malkovich. Incredible film. I've seen it several times. Mind-blowing. It was a touch worse than mere socialism, it was fanatical mind-numbing cult thinking. It's parsecs beyond Bernie and his free college nonsense. It's not like Western democratic socialism, we're talking full-on communism with collectivization of agrarian systems, mass torture and genocide, Hitler youth style evils, the whole shabang. That was off the charts spooky stuff, man.

The scenes with the passport, I swear, it's just gripping. Makes me a nervous wreck every time I see it!

oh I know it is not accurate, I just personally think it is well acted and an interesting story. Full Metal Jacket is another good one.

Not sure if this is weird - but I ALWAYS have to be learning a foreign language. I just don't have a place to use the languages I learn...EXCEPT...That I am going to Italy with my husband in a few weeks!!! Now I actually can use the Italian I've been learning [emoji4]

It will be a crazy month...Pascha, Ireland with my family, Italy with just me and my husband... [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

Seriously though, my parents went about 8 years ago and had A BLAST! You're in for a lot of fun and awe. Just pretend it's pre-1054 and they're still Orthodox! ^_^

I offically have Convertitis, before offically being Chrismated. Some lady came to Church to talk about Missonary stuff, I kept thinking, in my mind, how cool it would be next Lent to wear a suit, with a purple neck tie.

Don't you live in Australia, pro? They disarmed that country years ago. Hopefully I got the right country and won't be wearing egg on my face tomorrow! LOL

Since we never went through that whole frontier, wild west period, the right to carry arms was never a part of our culture.

Not sure what's good to say - I can probably come up with TONS of weird stuff about myself.

People are usually surprised if they see a pic of me on my motorcycle in my younger days. No, not a Harley. But I rode everywhere, including a 1,000 mile round trip road trip. I was EXHAUSTED on the way back, my intercom broke so I was unable to carry on conversation, the vibration from the road and wind was fatiguing, and I actually fell asleep while driving on the interstate. My husband said I just kept speeding up and he was trying to catch me. I dreamed (still remember it) that God and the Coca-Cola man were coming to get me (?!) and woke up to realize that I was going 100+ mph and traffic was STOPPED just in front of me. I stopped as fast as I could without crashing. There was a state trooper standing at the bumper of the car in front of me, watching me. I stopped inches from his knees. He probably thought I was playing some stupid game with him. But he just looked at me, and as I recall I was thanking God I was not dead! (Even though I was not at all religious at that time!)

But yeah, I used to be a "motorcycle Mama"!

I wouldn't attribute the right to bear arms to the wild west. That's kind of the anti-American propaganda most of the world believes. The U.S. Constitution ensured the right to bear arms and to maintain a well-regulated militia long before the wild west was even wild. The British presence in America created a system in which we were a sheep-like, disarmed, impotent populace at the mercy of a government that was extremely well-armed and subjugating the populace. Not only for hunting and self defense, but for keeping a well-regulated militia to keep the feds honest the 2nd amendment was created. You're right that guns are a part of our culture for sure. Keeping the government honest. The day they truly come for our guns in this country and try to make us 100% at the mercy of the government, you'll be reading about total insurrection.
Since we never went through that whole frontier, wild west period, the right to carry arms was never a part of our culture.
