  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Prayer requests post here!

as always, continued prayers!
Thank you, Matt, and for others who messaged that they were praying. :)

Everyone, THANK YOU FOR PRAYERS!

It couldn't have gone better! (at least for knowing there was a new cancer) My oncologist hugged me and we both thanked God! (I'm thankful to have a Christian oncologist - he's my favorite doctor of all those on my care team.)

The new cancer could have been caused by the first one (I hope so, which would mean there was no additional cause), but more importantly they caught it VERY early. There was no spreading.

I don't need more radiation, or chemo, or any more surgery. All I have to do now is recover. I have to be monitored frequently from now on, but if I understand correctly, I think I can consider myself cancer-free now?

(Not only that, but they rebandaged my drains and gave me pouches to carry them since they are very large, and the cord I carried them on wrapped behind my neck was getting so uncomfortable. So I am much more comfortable!)

At any rate, it's VERY Good news. Glory to God!

Please pray for me. I have suffered from guilt and shame from my childhood for years. It has impacted every aspect of my life. Lately I have been struggling at work with issues with a supervisor. He reminds me so much of my dad and it only stirs bad emotions towards both of them. Pray that I would regain peace again. Initially after coming to Orthodoxy, my anxiety, depression, and probable PTSD-A went to the background. Now that I am settled in prayers and a beginning walk in an Orthodox life, I am once again battling. This time it seems I have the tools necessary to fight these tendencies. The prayers of fellow Orthodox are part of those tools. Thank you.

Are we allowed to pray for non-Orthodox who have died. My calvinist Presbyterian minister friend died suddenly this week. He's apparently been dead a couple of days when they found him. I'm just really torn up about it. When I was single one of my biggest fears was dying alone and then nobody finding me for a period of time afterwards. The thought that it happened to him is just tearing me up inside. I'm also hoping/praying that it wasn't his 18 year old son who found him.

we absolutely can, may his memory be eternal!

you know you can do a Trisagion for him and there is an Akathist to St Varus who intercedes for those who die outside of Orthodoxy.

Asking for prayers for my FIL, Vladimir.
His legs are approaching emergency condition and there are no good specialists in our town - we have to get him to Moscow. He's 80, health worries are considerable.

What's a Trisagioin and a Akathist? I went to Matins this morning just so I could light a vigil candle for him and talk to our priest. He didn't mention a Trisagioin.

a Trisagion is a specific service you can do for anyone, even the non Orthodox. an Akathist is a long standing prayer to Christ, a Feast, an icon, a saint, etc. the one to St Varus is for those who die outside of the Church

Trisagion is in the Small Book of Needs which a lot of priests have, and the Akathist to St Varus I would google. we might have it still in the St Tikhon's Bookstore

Lord, have mercy! I'm sorry to hear this. May God grant him rest with the Saints.

His legs are approaching emergency condition and there are no good specialists in our town - we have to get him to Moscow. He's 80, health worries are considerable.
Update: we got him to a super-duper hospital in Moscow; he was seen by someone who was clearly along the lines we needed, but they couldn't hospitalize him without doing a bunch of tests and deciding whether an operation is even possible for him. So we have to take him back next week when all the results are back.
(That means yours truly has to navigate rush-hour traffic into Moscow. :p )
Thanks for your prayers; we're not out of the woods yet. If he can't walk, then basically, we lose the dacha for our kids this summer, as babushka can't get by there without him.
