(From Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh famous for such things as breaking the story of the My Lai Massacre.)

"The C4 attached to the pipelines would be triggered by a sonar buoy dropped by a plane on short notice, but the procedure involved the most advanced signal processing technology. Once in place, the delayed timing devices attached to any of the four pipelines could be accidentally triggered by the complex mix of ocean background noises throughout the heavily trafficked Baltic Sea—from near and distant ships, underwater drilling, seismic events, waves and even sea creatures. To avoid this, the sonar buoy, once in place, would emit a sequence of unique low frequency tonal sounds—much like those emitted by a flute or a piano—that would be recognized by the timing device and, after a pre-set hours of delay, trigger the explosives. (“You want a signal that is robust enough so that no other signal could accidentally send a pulse that detonated the explosives,” I was told by Dr. Theodore Postol, professor emeritus of science, technology and national security policy at MIT. Postol, who has served as the science adviser to the Pentagon’s Chief of Naval Operations, said the issue facing the group in Norway because of Biden’s delay was one of chance: “The longer the explosives are in the water the greater risk there would be of a random signal that would launch the bombs.”)"

Adding extra links just in case substack from an award-winning journalist is not good enough for the board standards.

The Daily Mail covers the basic story and has some nice illustrations depicting the alleged details.

Newsweek is covering the story too but noticed them omitting the fact that President Biden not only said he would blow it up publicly if the Russians invaded Ukraine, but he even promised he would do that while overseas, seemingly oblivious to the distress of the young German female reporter interviewing him on TV. who seemed bothered that the US would feel entitled to blow up an expensive piece of German infrastructure just to teach Russia a lesson!

This would have more impact if it were published by a newspaper or journal (with editors and fact checkers), rather than a blog.
Yes, but the story would also likely not see the light of day, because of sociopolitical bias of such instutions. or be delayed years so there is no political fallout for any parties involved.

Not to mention, papers are not above reporting suspicion as fact when it came to certain topics of recent memory like Trump's Russian Collusion, Hunter Biden's laptop as Russian disinformation op, the Covington kids and Kyle Rittenhouse.

Besides all that other younger investigative journalists are having to also use Sub stack to get around the system that actually frequently represses real investigative journalism, people like Gary Greenwald and Matt Taibi. If their work has any merit, it will be picked up by TV, and other official news outlets. I'm sure this story is going to be covered by the right end of TV and the internet in a matter of days, if not hours. Not to mention, vetting many facts often doesn't take weeks or months (foot dragging on stories is often just a passive aggressive tactic to not cover a story that hurts to much for the reporters and/or editors favored side).

All of them point back to Hersh as the source, some with comments like:

"Once hailed “the greatest American investigative reporter”, Hersh’s more recent stories have been called into question." [The Times]

"His reporting has previously been criticized for its heavy reliance on unnamed and anonymous sources." [Daily Mail]

Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning.

Collaborated with other sources?

This. Yet it raises a question: What was the verification of information from "Deep Throat?"

So far, the most plausible theory may simply be lack of maintenance. Wasn't the project shut down for a while?

An Interesting new development!

Not sure what pull Russia will have in convening a NATO summit. (OK, no pull. They aren't a part of NATO. They are literally the reason NATO exists.)

No evidence, just hearsay. This belongs in the conspiracy theory forum.
Seymour Hersh really is a respectable investigative journalist. That doesn't prove anything, but I take him seriously.

*was*. This is a very thinly sourced story and frankly it doesn't make any sense.

America clearly had motives and means. I would not be surprised if Biden authorized this but this evidence remains circumstantial and plausible deniability remains firmly intact.

The consequence for Germany which was the main potential beneficiary of that pipeline is to accelerate a trend that the new government was already committed to and especially the Greens who never wanted the pipeline in the first place. But Germany should never have put itself in this exposed position of strategic energy supply vulnerability in the first place.

Hearsay would imply that Hersh's sources don't have first-hand knowledge of the matter. Which in turn, would imply that you know who they are. Please, do tell.

Ironic, considering that the new standards of mainstream journalism, since around 2016, allow for more or less indiscriminate use of anonymous sources...

Circumstantial evidence is still very much evidence. Prosecutors can and do get convictions solely on circumstantial evidence - if they have enough of it.

Notice that the plan to sabotage the pipeline predates the deployment of Russian troops into Donbass a year ago. This may shed light as to why Russia chose to recognize the DPR and LPR when they did.

Ultimately, it underscores the reality of the war; there is no Russian war against the Ukraine. There is a US war against Russia by proxy.

I don't think it's on me to prove the reliability of this anonymous source (much less its existence).

It would not surprise me if something that sweetens the deal is that it would take down Germany's economy a notch at a time that the US is trying to rebuild it's industrial capacity. Stephen Greer, a "UFO disclosure project" advocate and more than a little prone to conspiracies, has suggested as much, that the war with Ukraine is part of a much bigger piece of geopolitics. He's crazy but sometimes people that say crazy things are right.

OTOH, maybe this is necessary for Germany to reassert itself and exercise agency in Europe. It's a long term "favor" for Germany, even if the German public can't understand it. They've been sleep-walking through history as a pawn of superpowers, ever since the end of WWII and been fed simplistic stories about its national identity as part of the post-war liberal consensus. Part of Germany's evolution may be having to find a confidence in itself to use its power wisely, freed from the psychological guilt of Nazism by recontextualizing the legacy of WWII. That will involve a renewed interest in the actual history of WWII, which is far more complicated than simply a powerful country that voluntarily chose fascism... because of some kind of intrinsic evil or original sin.
