Yes, do unto others as you would have them do to you. I would want someone to lie to the Nazis in order to protect me from them.
Yes that story is helpful.Apparently God agrees with you. Rahab also comes to mind and why God counted her as among the righteous.
Sometimes we are forced in the world to choose the "lesser of evils". Rahab lied to protect Joshua's spies, the midwives lied to protect Moses and the other Hebrew babies. Lying is still technically a sin, but if we are forced to answer something, it is a greater sin to deliver up the innocent to murder.
In the eyes of those who claim that lying in those cases was evil, yes.Did Rahab commit evil? Did the midwives?
In the eyes of those who claim that lying in those cases was evil, yes.
And so did Corrie Ten Boom.
God told Samuel to lie and commit an act of treason (1 Sam 16)I know the 10 commandments command us not to bear false witness against our neighbor but what about other lies?
No. And that is based on the principle I put forward in post #20.Perhaps i should ask this:
Was it considered "evil" in God's eyes?
Of course not. And when they interfere with our own obedience, we are free to ignore them.Do unjust laws that are an abomination to God, supersede God's laws?

“We must obey God rather than men..”
I was blessed by reading that chapter, thank you. I dont see where Samuel lied though. Nor do i see treason because God is the authority, not Saul. Treason would be to go against God.God told Samuel to lie and commit an act of treason (1 Sam 16)

Yes it took a minute to sink in but i finally understood why you posted that. I answered your post in my last post.Nope, Thought it was a humerus addition to the questions "Does the OT say NOT to lie.
Let the weak say....I Am strong??????
I know the 10 commandments command us not to bear false witness against our neighbor but what about other lies?
Yes, I agree we need to considered more the effects of lying and what a lie is. The OT states that those that are weak (genuinely weak..) should say that they are strong....I get it now @RaymondG. Perhaps thats not a lie but instead is a truth. Consider Pauls testimony about being strong when he was weak. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
I hate lies.
But I can't help thinking that some lies, under some circumstances, are ok.
After all, Rahab hid the spies and lied to the king of Jericho - she said that they had left the city when all the time they were under the roof. She is commended in the book of Hebrews for her faith, Hebrews 11:31, rather than condemned for her lying.
