  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I passed my Certificate IV in Mental Health - praise God, with praise to come!

Hi there, Yes, so: praise God, I passed my Certificate IV in Mental Health - a year long course with numerous assessments and role plays and placement (at work)! I couldn't have done it without Him, as I was on medication and forgetting things all the time... on my own, I learned to pray for my...

Alain de Botton on Love etc.

A fan thread for author and speaker Alain de Botton. I somehow got to watching videos about marriage and relationships and eventually stumbled on this video. It's a funny but also thought provoking video from a obvious secular author and thinker on modern relationships. He spends the...

Should the Practice of Legacy College Admissions End

End Legacy College Admissions Affirmative action != unqualified, so I think the application of the term here is off, but on the subject of legacy admissions (topic of this thread), the practice should be ended. However, there are some issues like donors/maintaining endowment via legacy...

Seminary - Life as a professor?

I'm considering pursuing a graduate education in theology, primarily because I'm socially and intellectually isolated. I love dealing with facts and ideas, and I'm very critically minded. But most church people are bigots (technical usage, not a slur), sinfully judgmental and intolerant of ideas...

    A Culture Sunk in Vanity

The Western culture has been sinking deeper and deeper into vanity. I feel that, in our society, virtue has become degenerated from something that is valued in itself to something valued as a rhetorical tool. We have developed into a sort of 'hype culture' where a virtuous action is principally...
