In 2 Timothy 3:16 Paul says:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

Peter also had the same idea when he said that man wrote the word of God while being carried along by the Holy Spirit in 2 Peter 1:21

"For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

And he also called the word of God "Living" and "abiding forever" in 1 Peter 1:23. Jesus, the Prophets, everywhere in scripture says that God is incapable of lying and that the Bible wasn't written by man, but it was written by God. It doesn't contain many errors, but it in fact contains NO errors. ALL of scripture is true and breathed out by God.

Then there are the verses that were spoken by God himself when he was physically here on Earth that mankind denies and doesn't call true. In effect literally calling God a liar and twisting his very words.

You cannot just cherry pick what verses you like and what verses you don't like and call yourself a Bible believing Christian. You might be a lost and confused Christian but, you are not a Bible believing one because, If you believe what God has to say to mankind, you have to believe ALL of it exactly as it was recorded. Because, God cannot and God will not lie. He has no reason to. For what reason would God have to lie to mankind? God is not a deceiver that is Satan.

You can have your own answers to said verses but your answer has to be to something exactly as it was recorded by God. You cannot twist the word of God to say what you want it to say. I'm sorry to say it, the Church has lost its way. So many Christians (and non Christians) today just plain do not believe God and what God has to say to mankind. They have to makeup their own God to suit their own needs because that God sounds "more right" to them than the God that actually exists.

Sound Familiar? The Egyptians? The Early Romans? The Greeks? The Huns? The Norse people? Sodom and Gomorrah? They all invented their own god's instead of just accepting the God of the Bible for what he truly is.

The only way we can know who the true God of the Universe is is to read scripture as God himself recorded it. Not adding our own personal reasoning to it because we will always be wrong because we are corruptible (Sorry but that just is what happens with sin and we are all sinners). Nor adding what the Pope or any other man says for the very same reason. Read ALL of scripture for what it is and you will come to see exactly who God is and what he wants and expects from people. Anything else, is calling God a liar. Not saying people cannot be saved while being confused on God and Bible. To quote Paul "Salvation is by grace through faith and it is not of ourselves but it is the very gift of God". But if you really want to believe the Bible and grow in your sanctification and Christian walk. If you don't want to invent your own God and add your own history into your head you have to read scripture for what it is, a book from God.

You will come to find out that the reformers and St. Augustine actually interpreted scripture for what it is. You will come to find out that the Apostles nor the Prophets nor God himself come in the flesh lied ANYWHERE when what they did or saw or said was recorded. You will come to find out a lot about life and the very question of "Why are we here? What is our purpose?" will be answered.

This all being said, I'm not trying to push Reformed Theology on anyone. I'm merely inviting people to read scripture for what it says. I'm merely asking if people believe scripture is the living breathing word of God. If you come to a different conclusion while honestly reading the entire word of God for what it says, more power to you. But, if you were really honest with yourself you will find that a lot of what the Reformers said, preached, and believed is true and was ALL contained and written in scripture.

Jesus is the Word of God. We forget this at our spiritual peril.

The Bible in this age has become nothing but a support many christians scientific beliefs book (if they alter the Biblical accounts), concerning Creation. But not really as support of science but more of a dismissal of The Bible as an accurate record of God's creation

And in many ways concerning salvation support many christains salvation plan, what they have pulled out and put together from the Bible.

Creation, Adam, Noah, Tower of babel, etc.. are just nice little stories to entertain a reader and not literal accounts speaking of God's work or actions taken against evil.

So, to what should we turn in order to be instructed in that ^, if not the Bible?

.
Scripture is the word of God. Christ is the Word of God. Be careful not to confuse the two. Scripture is the message but Christ is the one we follow and worship. The message abstractly is living as it spreads and grows through the church however it is source of power is from the life of Christ.

Well i will add, they use science to dismiss Biblical accounts, negate them again to just poetic stories or just stories.

But that only concerns some stories in the Bible not being literally as described. Do we then consider other parts of the Bible to be correct and accurate as written?

There is the written word, scripture, then there is the living "Word", Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Blessings.

There are many who pick and choose what to take as an accurate and truthful literal event. It varies within many churches and individuals.

But i see it as to be taken literal unless the Bible states otherwise and not because of any outside sources(science, history, archaeology, etc..)

By the way i rewrote my original post here as after your first reply to me, i realized i was not saying what i was meaning to say.

It is significant to remember that the purpose of Scripture is to reveal God to the reader so that the reader can have a living relationship with God. The Bible is not a science or history text, it is not about anything other than God and man and the relationship they have. Therefore it is not significant if creation happened in six days or six billion years, the significant thing is that God made everything, that God is all powerful, that God made man in His image to rule to earth and everything in and on it and that God wanted to establish and maintain a relationship with man. We need to understand that God was explaining things to men who did not have the scientific knowledge that we have today so He explained things in ways that they would understand so they would know who He is, who they are, and what God expects us to have as values. When we read the Bible we should be asking ourselves, what does what I just read tell me about God? What does it tell me about God's desires and expectations, What does it tell me about my relationship with God. What should I change in my life to make me more in harmony with God. We should not always be concerned with the question of did this really happen or is God just explaining things in a way people would understand as Jesus did in the parabolas. Many things in the Bible are factually accurate but not everything and that is exactly the way God intended it to be.

We need to keep in mind as we read the Bible that we are reading a translation, most likely it is a translation of a translation, there are words and idioms that do not translate well, there are also things about the people, social customs, recent history, and current event in existence at the time the message was written than can affect the message that God was delivering. For example if someone in our culture today mentions the twin towers our minds immediately think of 9-11-2001 and everything associated with it. If someone says it is raining cats and dogs we do not look for falling animals. The accurate understanding of the Bible is achieved when we determine what was understood by the hearer of the passage at the time and place it was originally intended to be heard. In example if we do not understand the history and social implication of the relationship between the Jews and the Samaritans the parabola of the Good Samaritan will have lost much of its value. Since most readers of the Bible are not scholars, and even those who are cannot know everything, they will get much more value out of the Bible if they use a commentary instead of missing much of the message by using their own understanding. It is not uncommon for people to totally misunderstand a passage if they do not use the resources available to them. I hope this is helpful.

You were doing good until you threw Augustine and the reformers in the mix. Augustine is responsible for a lot of errors in the church, in fact his writing is largely both the reason there had to be a reformation as well as the solution reformers found. He never fully abandoned his manichaeism instead infusing Christianity with much of the pessimism about the material world and asceticism from his gnostic heritage. The reformers are a mixed bag, but even among the best of them not much of their theology remains. Would you push Calvin and Luther's mariology as much as their soteriology is pushed today? How about their ecclesiology? Any other major area of doctrine that doesn't fall under the first 7 councils? I think not.
