  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump wins major victory: Appeals court overturns NYC civil fraud judgment

The decision came seven months after the Republican returned to the White House. A five-judge panel of New York's Appellate Division concluded that the $515 million judgment—originally set at $355 million plus interest—was "excessive" and unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment.

Trump did not committ fraud. The banks were happy with the total repayment of the loans. Hopefully, the next level of appeals will completely reverse the lower court ruling of fraud.

The law found he committed fraud.

Of course observers can hold to whatever opinion they prefer.

It's not fraud if you get away with it. OK.

I saw that coming.

It was overturned. It happens all the time in our court system. Someone gets convicted, fined, sentenced and then the case is reexamined and is overturned because it wasn't legitimate.

The guilt was not overturned. Just the extent of the fine

The whole thing is probably going to be dismissed.
Theres no evidence to suggest that at all.

(Note that I can see a constitutional argument against the felony verdict in the other case - even tho I think he actually did the crime and the crime should be a felony. But I dont believe the way the law was structured allowed him a proper defense. But this case is much clearer than that one. He'll stay guilty here.)

It's already been determined the case was mishandled.

The progressive left wing liberal judge said he committed fraud. This is yet another example of the weaponization of lawfare during the years of the Biden administration.
