  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Word of God Sunday: Scripture expert explains why the Bible is ‘modern,’ how to preach well

A Scripture expert who is now the official preacher of Pope Francis has explained what makes the Bible “modern” and why knowledge of the word of God is important for evangelization.

“The revelation of God is offered within a great variety of stories, tales, situations that correspond closely to life,” Father Roberto Pasolini, OFM Cap, told CNA in an interview last month.

People today are always thinking in terms of stories, whether that is Instagram “stories” or films or TV, he continued. “Because stories are places where we recognize ourselves immediately,” while it is sometimes harder to see ourselves in “more abstract, theoretical, and dogmatic formulations.”

“And so in this way, I think, the Bible is very modern as a resource for proclaiming the mystery of God,” he said.

Continued below.
Will Francis ever tire of living wall-to-wall with "Yes!" men? So he approves, commends, hires and embraces those who echo the papal prerequisites, and safely never hears straight-talk rebukes that might pierce his heart and save him. He likes Scripture that helps himself, and others, "recognize ourselves immediately"? He reads Scripture to find himself? That is certainly "modern." And barren. And futile. Can anyone ever help him silence himself so as to finally hear God? It is not in ourselves, but in God, that life can be found.

This new papal preacher says, “So, when I became a priest and started giving homilies and catechesis, I would just tell others what God and I had already said to each other during prayer.” This is really painful, and pathetic, to hear. We all need, simply, to dialogue with God? - have a nice conversation? I'm sure God was left greatly edified, and the priest left very confirmed in his precious opinions. No.

Rom 10:14 But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher?
Rom 10:15 And how can men preach unless they are sent? ....
Rom 10:17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ.

A look at Isaiah 27:6-28:13 and Matt 22:1-23:39

Very nicely written. The flow of the concepts weave together well, and the support of the rebirth of Israel is the indisputable evidence for the truth of it.

We do know this is not a just a story, being that it has the flesh and blood of the eternal God as its foundation in Lord Yeshua. The Kingdom of Heaven and the Wedding Supper always strikes me as a part of the truth many people miss, and the rest of us struggle to grasp the full implications of it. It is not just an unfounded analogy, something abstract with no basis that the Lord pulled out of thin air to make a fancy imagination to hold our attention and gain admiration.

The "Word of Adonai" absolutely changes us piece by piece, and the parable of the Wedding Supper I think illustrates that the Bible is the invitation to this great event, of which many toss to the ground and find no time or place for the "ancient writings". Failing to grasp the supernatural nature of the words on the page, it seems to be that, they disregard the invitation for emotional reasons and being "too busy." The Jewish people and Gentiles hold this same plight of peer pressure and public scrutiny, and so to engage in seeking a seat at the Wedding Supper is to be an outcast in the world they now live and to give up things they currently have and refuse to let go of.

I think the question many must answer first is, "have I asked God to show me whether this is true?" Because such an amazing offer certainly does, from the view of this cold world, seem to be "too good to be true," until one starts seeking to validate the reputation of the sender.

What are we to do respecting the Ten Commandments?

Oy Vey!

Is anything profitable coming from this thread? I just see people lobbing proof texts at each other. I'm all for hammering out the truth and trying to get to the root of a matter -- but recently all I'm seeing is just heat, and no light.

Maybe we should agree to disagree?

Trump signs executive order affirming ‘biological reality of sex’

I would say you almost definitely have schizophrenia. Please seek proper professional help and do not stop taking medication on your own advice.
God be with you.
you're not the only one, but are the most recent. the last person to call me skitzo was about in 2016. they noticed a particular "word salad" style of communication on my reddit posts.

I wish my experiences on this earth were psychosis, it would make life easier.
o_O
Now I know you did not get this from the creator, or the Bible.
So, I think we can let that pass as some idea that some person came up with.
I'm curious to know who though. Who told you this?
I spoke to a friend about some of these matters just a couple days ago. he spent 30 years studying hermeneutics, knows some of the people who translated the NIV bible, and completely suspends judgement on the matter because the bible simply doesn't talk about whether or not the spirit of a person is gendered.

we joked about whether or not its ok to be mormon and be resurrected into a gendered body on the new earth and have more children...

What we do know however, is that not all spirits are the same. the spirits of the prophets for example are different, and when Jesus says "for those who can accept it, John is Elijah to come. but Elijah was not the same as Jeremiah, nor moses, nor the other minor prophets.

It does not mean Elijah was resurrected or re-incarnated. it means they are the same spirit. and whether the prophecy was incorrectly transcribed, or the language was lost doesn't matter.. the point is it was fulfilled and John the baptist is the Elijah sent by God to call Israel to repentance. but its not literally Elijah the person.

In real life people have told me I remind them of jeremiah.

my wife has a very sensitive spirit and is easily traumatized. she is not a prophet but very occasionally has prophetic knowledge.

I tend to believe the disney film "soul" Soul (2020 film) - Wikipedia is not completely wrong. God creates peoples spirits for his purposes and they are all different. -without one, we are animals. not dead meat. just animals, pure biological instict and gut feelings. but no life force.

I have zero doubt that God acting on his foreknowledge and mercy creates spirits of people that.. can handle it.

my brother's former gf had a dark take on the matter "bad things happen to people who can handle it"

however there are exceptions. i think you can actually break a person's spirit. not just their mind, and they die.

a man i met 12 years ago willed himself to die. i've come close. two different parts of my mind spent 4 years, and 1 year, asking God to end their life. they died, left me, and the rest of me is a whole lot better. i don't have access to their memories as to why they asked for death.

Did Joe Biden join the Freemasons?

I suppose we are the targets because they know we will give them a modicum of respect while they're slamming us. Everybody else would say 'who gives a rip' and ignore it.
The attitude of a Christian on the path of life is that we can receive no punishment of which we do not deserve. No discipline is too severe compared to the debt we owe Our most holy Lord.

We accept the harsh discipline of the hierarchy and use it for self reflection. We fast and pray that it be taken away yet we are not justified in rebelling against it

Deny ourselves and take up our cross. There is so much opportunity for advancement in the spiritual life at this point in the Church but if we grumble and speak ill of dignitaries we will not get it.
So what if the unjust are not punished? Pray for their repentance. What good does grumbling do? Does it get the unjust to repent? I don’t think so.

I think it rather causes the unjust to mock us and blaspheme God. Is that what we want? God forbid!!

Anyone thinks that he is punished unjustly, prayerfully follow the stations of the cross and imagine looking into your saviors eyes as he takes the cracks of the whip, the spittle and mockery in the crown of thorns, and every hammer blow of the nails in His wounds all for the sins we have committed

As Catholics, we do not go for the prosperity gospel or the popularity church. We accept and desire more suffering for the good of souls especially for our own.

Joe Biden Potentially Faces Excommunication After Quiet Induction Into Historically Black Masonic Lodge

I would think if anything were a reason for Biden to be excommunicated (aside from his radical promotion of abortion) his officiating a homosexual "wedding" on two occasions in 2016 and 2017 would be it.
Sounds like it was simulating an ordained person. But then Joe Biden was pretty golden wrt the Vatican.

When We're Not Looking

Tragedy strikes when we’re not looking,
Folks are estranged, and lies are cooking,
Leaders are armed with their new vices,
To the naïve their plan entices.

Time now is spent with much distractions,
Looking to us for our reactions,
Mesmerize folks with their devices,
Changes they make and their new prices.

Stir up this group, then turn to others,
Open in air, and under covers,
Target naïve and those who’re suckers
For the next trick which they’ll uncover.

Trick and confuse, then the next story,
Whether be nice or it be gory,
All a mirage to keep us guessing,
While our resolve they’re truly testing.

All about this, the New World Order,
Stir they up then a new disorder,
Chaos insist, so they give reason,
Have now excuse to commit treason.

Need an excuse to fix the problems,
For they think we need them to solve them,
They say they’ll now make all things better,
So we’ll now feel to them indebted.

So be now wise, and look to reason,
Pray to the Lord to spot those demons,
Help us to see the times and seasons,
So we live now for God to please Him.

As Hegseth takes charge at the Pentagon, here’s what changes could be in store

One of my sons lives in S. Korea and in Trump's first term he continually threatened to pull troops.
Although my son teaches, he is also a partner in two successful businesses which would suffer with base closings or downsizing.
And having visited this country several times and falling in love with the warmth, creativity, ingenuity, and goodness of the friends I've made there, I would fear for their safety.

The struggle with Romans 14

Certainly. This kind of experience is one good cause of many, to focus more on that which Christ the Lord has Personally said:

You have contradictory mandates inside you. These are things you have sworn to do and to not do, whether or not you have used that word "swear" in your thoughts about them. They cause you to struggle mentally, and to take on heavy burdens that the Lord has not given you. Throw all of those mandates out. Make them part of your repentance towards His will and His way. Ask Him to free you of these things, to give you worthwhile repentance, which comes with His peace in your soul. This is absolutely, and eternally, worthwhile.
I'm not gonna lie it is aggravating especially when I feel like I need to do things a certain way and I just want to get through my day. It's not fun and I wish I could just turn my brain off sometimes.

I (still) don't know .. (hence my query).

Then you have 'abilities' stimulated by your 'general' education, no(?)

Nah. Probably not anymore. The older I get, the more I realize what little I have left. It's all fading now.

Excuse me now while I go find a dark corner and sulk.

Remain Steadfast in Your Trials

“As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.” (James 5:10-11 ESV)

When we who are disciples of Jesus Christ share with others the truth of the gospel, as taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles (in context), depending upon where we live, and the culture around us, including the Christian culture, may depend upon what kind of responses we might receive. For example in America the Christian culture at large is fairly worldly and driven much by the culture and by the world. So the gospel largely being taught is an altered gospel aimed at appeasing human flesh.

So if you are one who is teaching what Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught, in context, you are probably not going to gain a large following. And you may end up being ignored, mocked, criticized, rebuked, mistreated, and cast aside as unwanted because you don’t blend in with the culture and with the world, and you don’t buy into the diluted gospel which is permeating the American church. And you may be told to “go someplace else where you will be a better fit,” because you don’t fit with them.

But, as followers of Jesus Christ we are to be sharing the gospel message in the manner in which Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught it. For they taught that faith, which comes from God, results in us dying with Christ to sin, not just once, but daily, and us walking in obedience to our Lord and to his New Covenant commands, in practice. And they taught that if we profess faith in Jesus, but we keep living in sin and not in obedience to our Lord, that we don’t have salvation from sin nor eternal life with God.

For Jesus Christ went to that cross for us to put our sins to death with him so that we will now die with him to sin and walk in obedience to his commands in holy living, in daily practice. And he rose from that grave in victory over sin, Satan, death, and hell, so that we can also live in victory over sin and Satan and slavery to sin and the control of Satan over our lives. He didn’t die that horrible death just to forgive us our sins so we can go to heaven when we die. He died to take us from death to life in him.

So, if you are teaching what Jesus taught, and what his New Testament apostles taught as the gospel message (in context), don’t be surprised if you end up suffering for the sake of the gospel because what you are sharing does not bode well with the more casual Christian audience who are more accustomed to an altered and diluted gospel which tickles itching ears and does not offend the ungodly. And don’t be surprised even if others who profess faith in Jesus are the main ones who oppose you and reject you.

For think of who Jesus’ greatest persecutors and opponents were. They were the religious and the influential and the rulers in the temple and in the synagogues who were supposedly of the same faith as Jesus, of the same family of God. But they didn’t like his messages. They didn’t like him calling them out in their sins and in their hypocrisy. And they didn’t like him healing people on the Sabbath. And they didn’t like what he stood for, and so they aimed to “take him out,” basically, and they did accomplish their goal.

But God had the last word on that. He raised Jesus from the dead, and after Jesus went back to heaven, he sent his Holy Spirit to indwell his followers (his disciples – all who followed Jesus). And they continued the ministry that Jesus had begun, and the gospel message spread far and wide despite Jesus’ enemies who were out to destroy him. And I have personally experienced something like that in my life, where others wanted to silence me, but the Lord provided a way for me, and the gospel is going out to the world.

So, the point of this is to not let other humans discourage and dishearten you or dictate for you what you can and cannot do or say, unless what you are wanting to do is against God and against his word. If truly you are obeying the Lord, and what you are speaking is the truth of God’s Word, then don’t let others’ opinions or treatment of you keep you from obeying the will of the Lord. Yes, they may laugh at you and scorn you and ignore you, but just keep doing what God has called you to do – all for his glory.

Here is Your God!

An Original Work / July 18, 2012
Based off Isaiah 40:9-31 NIV

You who bring good tidings to Zion,
Lift up your voice; raise with a shout,
And do not be afraid of the people.
Say, “Here is your God!”
See how the Lord God comes now with power.
His arm rules for Him; His reward with Him.
He tends His flock just like a shepherd,
His lambs in His arms.

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from beginning?
Our Lord sits enthroned above all things.
None to Him compare.
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens.
Who made all of these? Who calls them by name?
Because of His great power and strength,
All accounted for.

Why do you say, “My way is hidden
From the Lord, and my cause forgotten”?
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord, He is your God.
He will not weary. He gives us power.
Those who trust in Him will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings just like eagles;
Walk and do faint not.

Trump Floats Funding Government Solely Through Tariffs: ‘How About Just No Taxes, Period? We Could Do That’

You know, if the tariffs worked out, like a thing like that could happen if you want to know the truth. Years ago, 1872, 1913, we didn’t have an income tax. What we had is tariffs where foreign countries came in, and they stole our jobs, they stole our companies, they stole our product, they ripped off. And, you know, they used to do numbers.

And then we went to tariff, a tariff system. And the tariff system made so much money. It was when we were the richest from 1870 to 1930. Then we came in with the brilliantly came in with an income tax. So we don’t want others to pay. Let’s have our people pay. And then you had the depression in 1928, 1929, I call it 1929. It was a bad time. But, you know, you didn’t have tariffs, and you had tariffs that ended in 1913. But it was the richest our country ever was.
This grasp of our economic history is quite something to behold.

Japanese Aquarium Cheers up Lonely Sunfish with Cardboard Cutouts of People

How do you cheer up a lonely fish? Trick question, fish don’t get lonely.

Or do they? It’s difficult to know for sure, but one aquarium in Japan seems to think, in fact, they just might.

The Kaikyokan Aquarium in Shimonoseki, southern Japan closed on December 1st, 2024 for renovations. Within a few weeks, their 30-plus kilogram ocean sunfish began exhibiting strange behavior.

Continued below.
My fish go crazy when I walk by. They press the front of the aquarium and flitter about. Part of that is that sometimes I stop and feed them.
