  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

On the centrality of the Word of God in the life of the Church

“The Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures as she venerated the Body of the Lord,” begins the sixth chapter of Vatican II’s Dei Verbum (CCC 141), as the Council Fathers endeavored to situate Scripture in the life of the Church. Many non-Catholic Christians would question the accuracy of this Vatican II assertion. The purpose here is to demonstrate that the Catholic Church is not only a “Bible-based” Church but the Bible-based Church. As Alfred E. Smith was fond of putting it, “Let’s look at the record.”

I smell propaganda.
Seriously speaking, I've always hated propaganda. I don't like 30's-feel.

...The feeling of the 30's, reminds me of the great depression, and of being surrounded by broke hustlers everywhere, trying to scam or one-up everyone else. Yuck!

Science teachers from Queensland Open Brethren schools told to teach students about vegetarian dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark

So people are denying that some dinosaurs ate plants? If they just took velociraptors, every animal and human on the ark would have been eaten and the earth would be a dead wasteland with no Bible or anything. Some people are just out there.

Ethics on lies and how to tell other Christians that they are supporting liars.

It still amaze me what level of tolerance concerning lying I often discovered in Christians, and how readily they are to sweep it under the carpet when it is called out, and how lightly they consider such serious warnings from the Bible.
The second word in the Bible that really gets my attention is the word MANY. Matthew 7:22–23 shows that many will come to Jesus on that day claiming they served Him, but He tells them to depart because He never knew them.

Through Him Who Strengthens Me

“Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13 NASB1995)

I live in the USA, in the state of South Carolina, and right now we have been hit with some pretty severe low temperatures for a southern state, and we have been having some snow storms and some ice storms, as well. And it appears that about 23 US states and nearly 200 million people are being impacted by this storm. And large numbers of households are presently without power to heat their homes and to cook their meals and to communicate with the outside world. And, if we were to lose power, I would not be able to write my daily devotions and to post them on the internet.

But I do not know the extent of the damage that this storm has created throughout all these US states at present, but definitely some areas got hit much harder than others. So far we have not suffered any damage to our apartment home, but with the coming weeks’ worth of below freezing temperatures there is the possibility of people’s water pipes freezing and of causing flooding in people’s homes. We did experience this in our apartment in December of 2022 when the water pipes froze in the apartment above us which then flooded our apartment, and we were displaced for a week or so.

The biggest danger here, though, would be for people who had nowhere else to go, and who had no heat to warm them, and who might die in the below freezing temperatures we are expecting here for the next 7 days, it seems. We do have family we can go to if we lose our power, so I think we will be alright, but not everyone has family they can turn to in times such as these. Not everyone has a shelter available where they can go to get heat and food and a place to sleep out from underneath the freezing temperatures. And my heart goes out to them who have no place of refuge, nowhere to go.

And then we read Paul’s words here. And in other passages of Scripture he shared with us some more of the circumstances in which he found himself where he was stoned and left for dead, and where he survived multiple beatings and three shipwrecks and several imprisonments and hardships and many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure, with enemies pursuing him wanting him dead, and much more (see 2 Corinthians 11:23-29). And God got him through every one of those difficulties, and Paul kept on speaking the truth of the gospel of Christ.

Now, when the world falls apart all around us, and we lose the comforts this world has to offer us, and our lives get turned upside down, well, that is the norm for a lot of people in this world. Not everyone has the comforts of living somewhere where they have heat to warm them and a comfortable and warm bed to sleep on and food enough to fill their bellies. So, if we lose those things, even just temporarily, we should think of all those who have none of that, and yet many of them survive. And we should give God thanks for what we do have, by his grace. And we should not grumble.

I like Paul’s words here, and I have lived by them, but not always, and I must still live by them. I must be content with whatever circumstances God allows to come into my life, that he has allowed them for my good, and that good will come out of them in my life and in the lives of people whose lives are touched by mine. I do know what it is like to live on little, and on plenty. I have never gone hungry, but we didn’t always have much. But in whatever circumstances God allows to come into my life, I can survive them in his strength. And if I should die in want, it is God’s will to then take me home.

Sing Praises

Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love

Sing praises to the Lord!
Tell of His wondrous works.
Afflicted, they cry out;
The Lord will not forget;
The needy, not desert.

The Lord’s our refuge now;
A stronghold when we fear.
The Lord will ne’er forsake
The ones, who Him pursue!

Sing praises to the Lord!
With all my heart I sing.
I will rejoice in Him;
Sing praises to His name;
Tell of His wondrous works.

My shield is God Most High.
He saves those who believe
In Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
His grace has pardoned you!

The Lord accepts my prayer!
The Lord has heard my cries.
He is so merciful.
He heals my anguished soul.
The Lord has made me whole.

Give thanks unto the Lord.
Give praise unto His name.
Our Lord is righteousness.
Sing praises to the Lord!

Sing praises to the Lord!

Even one day is too much

I'm having trouble going on my medication that stops my crying. Crying is absolutely imperative for me to do. Crying sucks but it also is necessary and allows people to actually see the real pain in my face.
I repeat. Please go see your doctor. There are different treatments out there. And- why is it important to you that others to see the pain on your face? Don’t you want to move past all that and find some happiness?

Do you think this is a real world possibility that doesn’t contradict what we know about history, science, and anything?

Two different race theory. I believe God created one male and one female, the Bible is clear, Eve is the mother of all living. Genesis 6 is interpreted two ways and I believe the Sons of God are referring to those referred to as angelic beings impregnating females and that is where all of the human diversities come in.

I believe in the Old Testament there are scriptures concerning the Holy Spirit, which is of God our Father but separate. I do not believe that in the Old Testament God our Father is the God who is referred to as El / Elohim / Yahweh but he who we referred to as Jesus / Yeshua is God written of in the Old Testament we tend to ignore Jesus himself said no man and I repeat no man has seen the Father but the Son. And when you read the Old Testament man saw, man talked to, man ate with, man walked with, man wrestled with God.

There are a few places in the Bible that seems to indicate God had to come and see for himself indicating he didn't know like when he came and called for Adam and asked Adam where was he, or when he came down to see what they were doing at the Tower of Babel...... He knew where Adam was physically located he was asking Adam about his untampered pureness that was lost. At the Tower of Babel he already knew but had to put a stop to it because man would wind up killing himself trying to build a tower to heaven ....... And there is place were the Angels come before God and give reports such as written in Zachariah 1:11-12 where the Angels reported to God and told him that they had come from the Earth and all this quiet. Job 1:6
Satan also walked the Earth and it is written that he walked up and down the Earth looking for who he can devour. But does that mean God doesn't already know?

Man's ideas of who God is has been established by the first translators the first heads of the church and passed down through the centuries....... Jesus said our Father is Spirit - spirit as far as man's knowledge is has no physical form and possibly not viewable...... Being honest we have no idea what the appearance of God our Father is / we have no idea of what the true appearance of Jesus is, 1 John 3:2 tells us we will be like him and see him as he is 1 John 3:2 Beloved, we are now children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when Christ appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. share.google
that scripture in itself is saying when he comes back he's not going to be in a human flesh body, the flesh is for Earth.

The best way I could describe God is to say this about God our Father; he is like energy, Energy that has life, energy that can create life / giving a part of itself, energy that sustains its own life, energy that thinks and feels. the Bible tells us that God was not created, God cannot be destroyed, and we know he can change forms. Two things science has determined 1) energy cannot be created, energy cannot be destroyed, and energy can change forms - just what the Bible wrote thousands of years ago about God. 2) science has determined everything in existence is energy (made of energy) humans are forms of living energy. But that's how I see God our Father, that's how I see the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for your time.

God Bless.

The Church, The Body of Christ

When Jesus spoke at the temple of Jerusalem, he warned us of the Pharisees of the Jewish high council. The same applies to the churches of the Christian faith.

Sin lives where fear thrives; This was used under a different argument but still relevant here. I mean when I say Sin lives where fear thrives is all about any form of fear, and all are bad.

In the song Amazing Grace there is a passage that says "It was grace that taught my heart to fear" but then with the line "Then with grace my fears released". As said by John in one of hist epistles, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love." What God wants us to do with religion after we have found faith in Christ he wants us to ditch it and put it aside because it can and will eventually be stolen from you "Made worthless to God for your good." Once we believe in Christ that's when the marching orders are given with your faith in Him. There's a reason I keep 1 John 4:18 and 1 Cor 2:5 close to me and always for the same reason. In the Chapters 1-3 John talks about the people who believe in social justice and the evil side of religion that God says stay away from. God is love and so on. If God is love, then the fear that is being preached from those who support the Mn Protesters might as well be preaching fear.

1 Cor 2:5; I met God at a thumb wrestling match with Satan and I put all my investments on God's team. Simple enough but not quite...

What this verse really means Is what this thread is touting; I don't trust a church that claims they are the best, nor do I trust a church that says we'll get you to heaven; When I find a church that says "Follow Jesus and he'll heal you with his blood and prepare you for heaven" Then I might decide to sit in a pew...

Why can't I connect to my account?

For some unknown reason I had to log in this morning which I usually don't have to do.

But there was also an issue with another site, so I think it may have been a local telecommunications issue ie. Telstra (Australia), as they did send a message to say they were working on the local network somewhere.

It's official-Trump signs executive order barring Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes

I question the legality of such an EO, but let's look at it:

Stopping Wall Street from Competing with Main Street Homebuyers

Turns out it's not quite what's been reported, but that's no surprise; I seriously doubt "reporters" bother to read EOs of any president. At least, how they report EOS is often not what the EOs actually say.

In this case it doesn't seem to overstep the law. It addresses the questions of determining definitions, seeks to gather information on house sales and purchases; restricts instructions to what a president can do; specifically states to remain within the framework of existing law; and seeks to recommend new legislation to address block purchases. Long story short, it doesn't forbid investors from buying up homes for rental or resale.

DEGREES OF PUNISHMENT & REWARDS

1 John 3
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

Leslie Phillips : Libera Me

Reins that I can't trace
pull my heart away
from love I long to taste.
Why do I run away
when I come face to face
with anything I need?

I am so afraid
if i keep hoping
there will come a day
when my heart is open
that you will walk away
like you were never there.

And I don't know all the truth
from the lying
but I know that I need you
'cause I am dying
from bein' held by hell
in this cell of blinding fear.

Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Libera, libera, libera me
from this dark dream
to the Life stream.
Libera, libera, libera me
from this bruised soul
living half whole.
Libera, libera, libera me.

I know there is a place
free from no borders
before I turn this grace
into disorder
I've got to find a way
out of this chaos.

And I don't know all the truth
from the lying
but I know that I need you
'cause I am dying
from being held by hell
in this cell of blinding fear.

Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Libera, libera, libera me
from this dark dream
to the Life stream.
Libera, libera, libera me
from this bruised soul
living half whole.
Libera, libera, libera me
let the truth break
what my fears make.
Libera, libera, libera me
from this dark dream
to the Life stream.
Libera, libera, libera me.

Help me understand the Catholic teaching on the Eucharist.

And they were trying to answer a protestants question about one of the differences in teaching between catholics and protestants to try to understand and bridge the divide in the church catholic and not... Isn't Christian Unity something to be reached for after all? (Catechism in a year, day 115 Fr. Mike seems to teach that IS one of the goals...) Login to view embedded media
Radagast is not Catholic and was not asking a question. All the congregational forums have the same rules. You’ll notice the post is no longer here and this thread dates back to April of last year. Not sure why you felt the need to post as you did at this point.

Army vet detained by ICE for 8 hours says he wasn't allowed to call an attorney

If they had no intent to question or interrogate him, then what would've been the purpose of bringing him in?
Intimidation.
And it sounds like he already had a personal attorney, and was requesting to call them but was denied, so it's not a case of having to wait for a public defender to show up.

Given that ICE is already under a public magnifying glass, you'd think they'd want to avoid that sort of thing and just release him as quickly as possible, and do the paperwork later. (and I'm saying that a person who's defended ICE pertaining to some of these recent encounters)
You would think that, but, as we've been pointing out to you, ICE has not been acting reasonably or rationally with regards to protestors.

Is Tithing even necessary?

If that's not you, you are lucky!
I agree. It takes a long time to realize what you want is not what you need. Yet the idea is to have something to fall back on when things go sideways. God taught that. Living beyond one's means has become a way of life, especially in America where credit is considered cash and the people are expected to play the game of perpetual indebtedness to the moneychangers. When people are scrambling to feed and shelter themselves, they are less likely to cause trouble for their masters. Saving need not just be money but being more practical when it comes to what you eat or drive or wear.
