  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From trans man to traditional mother: How one woman broke free from ideological chains after finding Christ

Influencer says she wishes someone had told her it's OK to be a 'tomboy'

Surrounded by baby gear scattered in her living room with the distant cry of a newborn in the background, Lex Renick, a former transgender man who de-transitioned back to being a woman after reconnecting with Christ, reflected on her life-changing testimony.

After living as a man for 14 years, Renick recalled the moment she reconnected with God after losing her faith. "I remember falling on my face at a dock in our small town in Big Bear, where I ended up giving my life to the Lord in the sense of finally saying, ‘I trust you with all of it'," she told Fox News Digital.

"I just wish that I had someone to lovingly come alongside me and say, 'hey, it's OK if you're a tomboy,'" the influencer revealed. "I was the kid that liked to hike, who liked to be in the mud, who was a total tomboy, and I just needed a parent to come alongside me and say, ‘hey, that's OK.’ But now we live in a world where there are no tomboys anymore. We live in a world where if you like these things, then you're that. And that's a very scary place to be because children are so vulnerable, and we need to protect [them]."

Inevitable isn't it?

Sin is resistible, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses with the help we need to resist a fall into deeper and deeper sin. He brings us to Christ for forgiveness, and the Father accept Christ's absolution given to us.

All of the above applies both for individuals and for communities. A nation that turns away from sin will be forgiven. Remember the story of Jonah and the repentance of Nineveh.

I also like, on that subject, the story of the repose of Abba Sisoes, who is venerated by the Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and the Assyrians, and I think the Anglicans and some Lutherans as well. He was one of the Desert Fathers.

Matthew 7 and John 6 connecting the verses together

So I was studying scripture and I came across something interesting. Most of you probably have made this connection before but I happened to notice it anyway. The verses in question arwMatthew 7:21 and John 6:37-40 they read:

Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

John 6:37-40 – "All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me: that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day."

So when connecting the two verses together I happened to notice that both verses together made a strong case for predestination. Why? Well because in Matthew 7:21 Jesus says that possessing faith by itself is not enough. Its not just about calling him "Lord" or about going to church or Sundays. You can have an outward possession of faith but still not have Holy Spirit and still not be born again. Jesus is making the case here that it's actually about doing the will of the Father and what is the will of the Father? Jesus did not leave us guessing he answers this question in John 6:37-40.

In John 6:37-40 Jesus says that all who come to him have been given to him by the father and he will NEVER cast them out. This seems almost contradictory because he casts out people in Matthew 7 but no this underscores the sovereignty of God in salvation rather those who are truly saved are those whom the father has given to Jesus and Jesus guarantees their preservation to the end.

Here's the connection: in Matthew 7:21 Jesus talks about the need to do the father's will and part of the fathers will as explained in John 6 is that Jesus will not lose any that the father has given him. Those who have been truly saved are those who have been chosen by God and they will come to Jesus in true faith and preserverence.

So John 6:37-40 compliments Matthew 7:21 by showing that God is the one that initiates and secures salvation and also that genuine faith will result in a life of obedience and preserverence. The people who truly belong to Jesus will not just say "Lord, Lord," but will do the will of the Father and that will involves coming to Christ in faith, being sustained by His grace, and living in accordance with His commands.

You failed to mention the strong Eucharistic connection in John chapter 6, which is a fundamentally Eucharistic chapter, which forms the Gospel of John’s equivalent to the Institution Narratives found in the Synoptics and in 1 Corinthians 11.

Where this becomes interesting relevant to your argument is if one considers the promise of Christ in John 6 in a Eucharistic manner, together with the warnings given by the Holy Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:27-34.

It establishes clearly that Holy Communion is the apex of the life of the Church and the very medicine of immortality, but if abused, if taken unworthily not discerning the Body and Blood of our Lord, which we are required to partake of according to John 6, the results can be fatal.

Do You Know Him Truly?

“By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” (1 John 2:3-6 NASB’95)

There are many people today claiming to know God, to be “in Christ,” to be saved from their sins, and to be on their way to heaven, but regardless of how they live. For they are being taught that a mere verbal profession of faith in Jesus Christ will guarantee them forgiveness of all sins and eternity with God in heaven. But if we read the Scriptures in their appropriate context we will learn that isn’t the truth. We cannot just “claim to be in Christ” and that it will cover all addictive sinful patterns of behavior.

For knowing God is not head knowledge only. There are many people who know of God, and they know what the Bible teaches about God, at least intellectually they do, but they are not in an intimate relationship with God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – because they do not obey God and his New Covenant commandments, not in practice. But this word “know” has to do with intimacy of relationship with God via personal experience in dying with Christ to sin and now walking in obedience to his commands.

And to know God is to be in fellowship with him. And fellowship with God is a union, partnership, and participation with God in his work of grace in our lives via dying with him to sin, in practice, and walking (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to his commands in holy living, by the grace of God, empowered by God, via God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in him, which is not of our own doing – not of the will nor of the flesh of humans. All this originates with God, but we must cooperate with God in his work of grace.

So if we want to be assured of our salvation and that we are now “in Christ,” by genuine biblical faith in the Lord Jesus, then we must obey our Lord’s New Covenant commands which are all throughout the writings in the New Testament. And we must obey him when he calls us to a specific ministry, and when he lets us know of the gifts of the Spirit we have been given, and the body parts (within the body of Christ) to which he has assigned us, and we must do what he has called and equipped us to do, as his servants.

For obedience to God is not just about following a bunch of rules, but it is submitting ourselves to his will and purpose for our lives, willing to go wherever he sends us, and to say whatever it is he wants us to say, and to do whatever it is he wants us to do, as his followers. For we are now to be his possession, and he is to rule over our lives, and we are to submit to him and to who he has called us to be and to what he wants us to do. For we are not on this earth to serve ourselves, but to serve God with our lives.

Therefore, if we claim to know God, to be in intimate relationship with him, by faith in him, and to be “in Christ,” but then obedience to him and to his New Covenant commands is not what we practice, but sin is still our practice (habit, addiction), then we are liars, and the truth is not in us. For we cannot know God, in an intimate and biblical relationship with him, and to be of him, and to have the hope of eternal life in him, if our practice is sin, and if obedience to him and to his calling on our lives is not our practice.

For it is those who make it their practice, in the power of God, and under the direction of the Holy Spirit, to keep (obey) God’s Word, who are truly “in Christ,” and in whom the love of God has been perfected. For to love God is to obey him, to keep his commands. And if we do not obey him, in practice, we do not love him or know him, so we are not truly in relationship with him. For love, which comes from God, prefers what is of God, which is all that is upright, godly, morally pure, honest, faithful, and obedient to God.

So, if truly we are “in Christ,” by genuine God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in the Lord Jesus, and so we are abiding in (continuing in) Christ, in walks of obedience to his commands, then our walks of faith should reflect the character of God. Our walks of faith should reflect our Lord’s walk of faith and obedience to God the Father when he lived on the earth. And this is not claiming that we will be perfect, as Jesus was perfect, but that we should be following him, and he is to be our example for how we are to live.

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897
Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,
Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Claiming One Thing, But Living Another

“This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” (1 John 1:5-10 NASB’95)

When John stated here that God is Light, and that in him is no darkness at all, he was saying that God is truth, righteousness, purity, honesty, and faithfulness, etc., and that in him is no sin, evil, unrighteousness, impurity, and lying, etc., all of which block out the light of truth and righteousness. With him evil does not exist. So he is totally trustworthy. We can depend on him to be who he says he is and to do what he says that he will do.

So, if we claim that we are in fellowship (union, partnership, participation) with him, by faith in him, and yet we walk (in conduct, in practice) in sin (impurity, lying, cheating, stealing, etc.), then we are liars who do not practice the truth. So, all those people who are telling you that you can profess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and that you can say you believe in his bodily resurrection, and that you are now saved, done deal, are lying to you. Do the Scriptures teach that? Not in the appropriate context.

For, we must walk (in conduct, in practice) in the Light (in Christ, in truth, in obedience, in righteousness, and in moral purity), as God is in the Light, if we want to have fellowship (union, participation, partnership) with God the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ, and with other followers of Jesus Christ who are also in Christ by faith in him. And the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. Do you see what this is teaching? Salvation is not a one time deal and you are good to go. We must be following (obeying) Jesus.

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. For all of us humans were born into this world with sin natures, in the image of Adam, who was the first man God created, and who was the first man to sin against God. We have all sinned, and we have all come up short of attaining God’s divine approval and his righteousness of our own will and of our own flesh. It is only by the grace of God, via God-persuaded faith in Jesus, that any of us can be saved from our sins and have eternal life.

[Romans 3:9-26; Romans 5:12-19; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22,42-49; Ephesians 2:8-10]

But if we confess (speak to the same conclusion as God, in full agreement with God, in full alignment with God, saying the same thing as God about) our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And to be in full alignment and agreement with God about our sins is not to just make repeated proclamations and admissions of the same sins repeated over again, habitually. It means we align with (support, side with) him that we must die to sin and obey God.

For it is as we walk (in conduct, in practice) in the Light (truth, obedience, righteousness), and not in sin, that we are in fellowship with God, that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. But so many people today are not teaching this in the appropriate context, and they are teaching that we can keep walking in sin, and as long as we acknowledge that we sinned, we are then forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness. But if we agree with God about our sin, we will die to sin and walk in obedience to him.

For what did Jesus teach? He taught that if we want to come after him, we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin) and follow him in walks of obedience to his commands. For if we hold on to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, put sin to death, by the Spirit, in practice, and we walk (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to his commands, then we have eternal life in him. But if we deny him by our practices, he will deny us when he returns (Luke 9:23-26).

And he taught that not everyone who says to him, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God who is in heaven. For many professers of faith in Jesus will stand before the Lord on the day of judgment, proclaiming him as Lord, and professing all the works they did in his name, and he will tell them plainly that he never knew them, and that they are to depart from him, because they are workers of lawlessness, because they would not obey God (Matthew 7:21-23).

So, please do not use 1 John 1:9 out of context and self-proclaim yourselves forgiven of all sins because you verbalize your addictive sinful patterns when you sin. For the Scriptures are quite clear on this subject. If sin is what we practice (deliberately and habitually), and if obedience to our Lord and to his New Covenant commands is not what we practice, then we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of what our lips have professed. You cannot live a sinful lifestyle, and not obey God, in practice, and have eternal life.

[Matt 7:13-14,21-23; Lu 9:23-26; Jn 10:27-30; Ac 26:18; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Co 10:1-22; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; Gal 5:16-24; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:1-17; Tit 2:11-14; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2; 1 Pet 2:24; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6,15-17; 1 Jn 3:4-10]

Arose because he was healed, or healed because he arose?

John 5:
8 Jesus said to him,
Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

9 And immediately the man was made well,
took up his bed,
and walked.

Was the man made well by hearing, or doing?
Was he healed because he obeyed and arose, enabling him to take up his bed? or,
did he arise because he "realized he was healed?

Kidnapped 6-year-old girl found by state troopers, 2 men with her taken into custody

A Kansas highway trooper rescued a 6-year-old girl missing for over a month after she was kidnapped and took two men she was with into custody, authorities said Saturday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol trooper pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation and discovered that the front-seat passenger had a warrant for his arrest from another state for kidnapping a 6-year-old girl just over a month earlier, the agency said.

The trooper spotted a girl around that age inside the vehicle with the passenger and driver, both men in their 60s, highway patrol said. It was also discovered that the driver had a criminal history which included homicide and numerous weapons violations.

The trooper, with help from a local sheriff’s deputy, secured both men before safely removing the girl from the vehicle, highway patrol said.

Tesla Recalls Nearly All Of Its Cybertrucks Due To Them Falling Apart

...more details on the 7 recalls last year + the latest:

Ah thanks. All I was getting was a flood of stories about the current situation.

Personally I've always seen the Cybertruck as novelty vehicle for a niche market. I didn't think very many would be sold.

Ministry: Not Sure What To Do

Dear lord, I know ministry is trying and I know it’s easy to lose heart so early on. But the calling is sure and the love is sure. I pray you don’t give up so soon. That you will take heart in the scriptures and lesson planning and being a big sister to the middle school class. To lose everything and start over…. You might not get another chance. Lord let not fear take this person and dash them. Fear can be conquered. Isa 41:10, 1Tim 1:7. I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me. I encourage you not to quit. It starts slowly and you will warm up. Other opportunities to follow- teaching, counseling, encouraging. Let God encourage you and others.

Were YHWH and El Elyon the same?

The question is ambiguous. There are three interpretations.

First, were the strings 'YHWH' and 'El Elyon' the same?

Let string S1 = 'YHWH'.
S2 = 'El Elyon'.
S1 ≠ S2.

They were two distinct names.

Second, did S1 and S2 refer to the same concept?

No. De 32:

H5945, Elyon, most high

Assume H5945 was a shorthand notation for El Elyon.

El Elyon was the international God.
YHWH was a national God to Jacob.
These two were nuanced concepts.

Third, did YHWH and El Elyon point to the same God?

Define YHWH as the one and only self-existing true God who created everything.

Was El Elyon, YHWH?

Ge 14:

H410, El, god

El Elyon was identified as YHWH by definition.

The term "El" was a generic name for "god" in the ancient Near East, but in the context of the Hebrew Bible, it was associated with the God of Israel. "Elyon" added the superlative "Most High," emphasizing God's supreme authority over all creation.

Ps 7:

  1. As names, they were different.
  2. As ideas, there were two nuanced concepts.
  3. As existential beings in the OT, the two terms always point to the same one and only True God.
Well said, YHWH is the proper/personal name of the Most High God / El Elyon.

Ancient culture is those days was polytheistic, so the GOD of Abraham was THE God above all others.

Most believers these days are not aware that the Hebrew word 'el' was used for other gods / idols; the plural 'elohim' is even used for human judges, divine beings, etc. Yeshua confirms 'elohim' could refer to human beings in John 10:34-36, that awareness shows even more the semantic background of El Elyon / the Most High God. Furthermore Yeshua is announced as the Son of that Most High / El Elyon in Luke 1:32.

Bad work quality

God tells us to do our best in whatever we do. If you feel the work you did wasn't the best, find out how you can improve it, and if possible, redo the weld. No one should get hurt or injured because of our lapses.
Your heart is in the right place. Ask God's help and make the necessary changes to your work, and then deal kindly with your coworker, patiently.

Apologies - the EU does NOT buy $190 bn in USA weapons. It's $60 bn. But that's still 105 TIMES more than the USA puts into NATO each year!

Hi all,
I edited the original thread where I started my error - and have put the new findings over there.

Romans 4, water baptism?

Peace to all,

To me Paul received the Spirit, on the road to Damascus, blinded by "The Light" and was able to transform the gentiles without the Gentiles in the area even being Baptized. With Paul, was Peter, who said who would not baptize those Paul gave the Spirit unto. Then after they receivd the Spirit from Paul they were later Baptized by the water Baptism that John preached. The gentiles were so reverent that they had a temple for all their Gods, and even had a temple of the unknown God, This is the opportunity Paul took to walk right in, and evangelized and gave the Holy Spirit Baptism, the Pentecost to the Gentiles to The Temple of the Unknown God of the Gentiles, we now know and recognize as Jesus.

Peace always,
Stephen
And Saul / Paul NEVER did water BAPTIZE anyone at all and he BAPTIZED NO one with WATER //HUDOR , Unless

you have a verse !!

Water baptism was GIVEN TO Israel in John 1:31 and not to the BODY of Christ !!
