  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Violence erupts at Kansas ‘black mass’ as Catholics pray for peace

Satanists are deluded idiots.

Remember the old saying, "It's all good fun until somebody loses an eye"? That's basically what you have with Satanists. They're having a high old time being countercultural and sticking it in the eye of Christian society; but someday, when they actually meet up with the object of their affections, they're in for a horrible, terrifying, nasty, mind-shattering surprise.
Imagine being a fly on the wall during their particular judgment! That's all I will say. eek

Jasmine Crockett calls out black rep for being married to a white woman

If you dont want people to make a connection to Jim Crow, then dont say "Jim Crow" as the identifier for the era you value. Say "pre welfare" or whatever makes the meaningful connection you intend.

Why do protesters in Gaza want Hamas out? Expert breaks down group's 'dictatorial' rule

After thousands of Gazans took to the streets last week in a rare display of defiance against the Hamas terror group, a strategic advisor for a Christian advocacy group believes it is "unconscionable" for anti-Israel activists in the West to continue supporting Hamas.

Phillip Dolitsky, an Orthodox Jew who works on issues related to foreign policy for The Philos Project, a United States-based nonprofit that equips Christians to support Israel and the Jewish people, says the ongoing Israel-Hamas war is not the sole focus of the protests in Gaza.

"They want Hamas out," Dolitsky told The Christian Post. "And I think that now that Hamas has been made vulnerable and that its capability has been so greatly depleted, finally, there are people who are trying to call for an end to Hamas rule."

Morgan Wallen gives glory to God in SNL performance: 'Praise the Lord and Go Vols!'

The musical guest on Saturday’s edition of “Saturday Night Live” shouted “Praise the Lord” at the end of his performance in the latest example of the country singer using his platform to promote his faith.

Country singer Morgan Wallen performed on NBC's long-running sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live,” where he concluded his performance of “Just in Case” by proclaiming “Praise the Lord and Go Vols!”

Wallen’s shout out to the “Vols” refers to the University of Tennessee’s Volunteers basketball team, which was set to face off against the University of Houston in an Elite 8 game of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual March Madness Tournament on Sunday. The Volunteers ultimately lost to Houston.

Global Awakening

Something interesting- I was at the Global Awakening building in Mechanicsburg a few weeks ago for a healing service to get prayer. I was waiting to get called back and there was another woman sitting at the table next to me, I got to talking with her. It turns out she was a senior research scientist at Purdue University doing research on quantum physics, she may have been one of the top experts on quantum physics in the entire world! I didn't ask her at the time but if I see her again I would like to hear about what she was working on!

Onesimus was a SLAVE/bondservant of Philemon

Berean Standard Bible, Phm 1:

15 For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good— 16 no longer as a slave [G1401], but better than a slave, as a beloved brother. He is especially beloved to me, but even more so to you, both in person and in the Lord.
Strong's Greek: 1401. δοῦλος (doulos) — 126 Occurrences

BDAG:
① male slave as an entity in a socioeconomic context, slave (‘servant’ for ‘slave’ is largely confined to Biblical transl.)

English Standard Version:

no longer as a bondservant but more than a bondservant, as a beloved brother—especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
At Biblehub, 29 versions used "slave"; 17 translated it as "servant".

I put quite a bit of weight on BDAG. I'd go with 'slave'.

Man arrested striking Tesla counter-protestor with vehicle

Yeah I just wanna apologize in advance for the crazy things I’ll do once I turn 70. I have a lot of things planned for when I get beyond the age of accountability that I’m looking forward to. Mostly just getting back at my kids for the things they did before they reached the age of accountability. Things like throwing my ps4 controller in the toilet, writing and coloring on everything, jumping on my face, chest, neck, groin while fully asleep, bashing my wife in the head with a doorknob for no apparent reason. Oh yeah payback is coming as soon as I can get away with it!!

I stated when I hit 50. Gonna give them a full 18 years while I still have my senses about me, 14 years to go.

Election Watchdog Uncovers Nearly 5,000 Potentially Illegal Voter Registrations in Milwaukee Ahead of Crucial Wisconsin Elections

For all those who think the Michigan Islamic community couldn't vote for Trump, they did. They called Biden Genocide Joe. They are realizing that may have been against their best interests. Actually they didn't all vote for Trump but they voted against Biden. Same result. Mess around and find out. I'll be swinging past the local Islamic food store tomorrow to load up on some goodies.

Donald Trump's return to office: Ten consequences

I imagine some might see a mixed bag here.

8. Trump is promoting European unity. Can that be bad?
If Trump fails the Liberal International Order will become far more powerful. I know the MAGA are counting on this to continue but for that to occur you have to have success. The reality is that it could be a catastrophe. Trump really could be setting the USA up for an end time transition. Not one where the government is operating closer to Christian principles, but one where the USA is humbled and broken.

Overcoming Theological Amnesia by Michael Root

We need to reclaim not only the Patristic sources, but the other medieval sources like Bonaventure and Duns Scotus, and the folks like Scheeben. We Catholics are the folks who are willing to look at ALL of Christian history and not ignore hundreds of years of the faith like some of those other guys are prone to do.

Australian election: Bishops say Catholics have a vital role in shaping nation’s future

Australian bishops on Sunday said the country’s Catholics have a vital role to promote the common good when they head to the polls on May 3 for a national election.

The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s Commission for Life, Family, and Public Engagement — chaired by Archbishop Peter Comensoli — released “Election Statement 2025: Called to Bring Hope in the Year of the Jubilee” after the Australian government announced the election date over the weekend.

“Our faith calls us to engage in democracy, to build, in the words of Pope St. John Paul II, ‘a civilization of love’ and ‘to contribute to the good of society with a spirit of truth, justice, solidarity, and freedom,’” the March 30 statement read.

“The jubilee reminds us that voting is not just a civic duty but an opportunity to advance the common good and pave the way for hope,” the bishops’ conference said.

It All Has Purpose

The world is turning topsy turvy,
Everything seems upside down.
Our leaders we call into question:
Are they real, or are they clowns?

Each day is changing, different stories,
Where to listen? Who truth tells?
Each day is filled with much confusion,
Who is who? What do they sell?

The craziness is overwhelming
Many people truth not know.
The madness that is all about us –
Truth? Or is it all for show?

It seems it goes in all directions,
One day this, and that day that.
We never know what we’ll encounter,
All agree? Or all do spat?

It seems that all these are distractions,
Keep us guessing, fear do dwell,
While leaders plot all their disasters
Meant for us to spread, to tell.

The Bible warns us days are coming,
Like we’re seeing up to date,
It tells of storms and wars and famines,
Of the ones who do Christ hate.

It says that we’ll be persecuted
For our faith in Jesus Christ,
And tells of how the gospel message
Will by some be taken heist.

But do not worry, all has purpose,
God is surely in control,
So share the gospel, give the message:
Give your life to Jesus whole.

Lourdes bishop covers Rupnik mosaics on doors to Basilica of the Rosary

The Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France announced Monday that the entrances to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, featuring art by the disgraced artist Father Marko Rupnik, are being covered.

Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes called the decision a “second step” after his initial decision in July 2024 to no longer light up the mosaics at night and during processions.

“You know my opinion about the presence of these mosaics on the doors of the basilica. It seemed to me, together with my collaborators, that a new symbolic step had to be taken to make the entrance to the basilica easier for all those who today cannot cross the threshold,” Micas said in an online postfrom the renowned Marian apparition site.

Mosaics by the alleged sexual abuser Rupnik, who is under investigation and awaiting a trial by the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, were added to the neo-Gothic facade of the lower Lourdes basilica in 2008.

Most people come to faith between ages 4 and 14, but 'theological education hasn’t done enough to focus on next gen'

Lucy Kajidori, leader of the International Council of Evangelical Theological Education's (ICETE) Impact Team on Children and Families, spoke with Christian Daily International about the urgent need to integrate ministry to children more deeply into theological education. She shared how the initiative began, what gaps exist, and what the group hopes to achieve.

Kajidori is an educator with experience in intercultural ministry and development. She has an MTh from the University of Oxford, U.K., and is a Ph.D. candidate at Fuller Theological Seminary in California, where she is researching local and contextual theologies of children. She also serves as researcher of theology and practice for the Viva Network, a Christian NGO working with children internationally.

CDI: Lucy, thanks for speaking with us. Could you share how your involvement with the ICETE Impact Team for Focus on Children began?

Should Employers Who are Looking for New Hires With Critical Thinking Skills, Reject Applicants Who Believe Conspiracy Theories???

You would have to explain what you mean by "paradigm".
But, the topic that you bring up, is important.
By "paradigm," I tend to mean what Thomas Kuhn would mean by it, and as a point of simple logic, I don't think it's too much to say that we no longer live in a Greco-Roman derived view of the world's functionality, scientifically speaking. Claims that I hear, then, that we all live in a recognizably shared reality seem to indicate the presence of conceptual conflations and equivocations about the nuances of how any of us perceive and conceoptualize, and make clear and distinct reference to, that 'shared reality' (which I just call "Reality" and treat as not fully known and sometimes 'other.')

The catch in this for me is that I think in order to understand Paul's assertions in Romans 1, particularly Roman 1:18-20 which provides an all too brief statement about theological epistemology and ontology contributing to any one person's "lack of excuse before God," we have to get out of our present paradigm about how the world works and what it's "essential nature" is and attempt to see it from the viewpoint of those who lived in Paul's 1st century Jewish and Roman milieu. If we instead decline to take this step in academic fashion, applying today's scientific paradigm, we will not see, or fully see, any solid reason why Paul's statement has any substantial purchase on our ontological and epistemological sensibilities. In my saying this, one reference among several in my saying all of this is Craig S. Keener's first chapter of his book, The Mind of the Spirit: Paul's Approach to Transformed Thinking.

Keener doesn't specifically state what I state about how I think it is necessary to put ourselves in the ontolotical and epistemological shoes of a 1st century Jewish Apostle such as Paul---or even those of Jesus---so I will take the fall for making this assertion. I will also invoke the Problem of the Criterion by which to further illustrate the problematic nature of your insistence about our living in a "share reality." Of course we do, but despite that we may be living in a shared reality by no means implies that any of us with identically perceive, or have immediate education to perceive, that share reality in the same way leading to the same inferences, especially where the contents of the Bible are concerend.

I wish it was easier, though. I really do. But being that figuring out the complexities and complications that exist in any of our attempts to apply cogent Hermeneutics to understanding our world or the Bible is riddled with frustrations and many false starts, makes assertions about recognizing our 'shared reality' become a very difficult abductive rather than a deductive project.

Moreover, in saying this, spotting the Before Copernicus vs. After Copernicus bifurcation should be enough by which to indicate this trouble spot in our assessing a 'shared reality,' and I shouldn't have to provide you a bibliography of every Formal or Informal Logic textbook I have on my book shelves.
If you think that different "paradigms" in different times during history,
would result in different understandings of what "You shall not lie" means,
you need to explain what that means. Otherwise, I cannot respond to
your comment.

It doesn't take different paradigms, for example, to understand that the
evidence is that there was no big conspiracy in the murder of JFK.
---------- ----------

My underlying argument, is that God's moral-ethical commands remain
the same throughout all of history. And, that this requires a Christian
worldview that conceives of "our shared reality" as very much stable
throughout human history. (If this is not so, then how can we understand
what ANY of God's moral-ethical commands mean, for a specific person?
Believing this, would lead to impossible theological requirements.)

I assert that the elements of formal logic, are part of our shared reality,
whether or not different generations of humans had formalized them,
or taught them in K12 education curricula. And these formal logic elements,
as well as philosophical primitives, remain the same for all human beings.

FOR THIS REASON, I assert that the formal reasoning tools that could be
used in Jesus' time, to discern that there WAS a plot among the Jews to get
Jesus indicted and condemned, are the same formal reasoning tools that
could be used to debunk the modern Kennedy assassination plot. Or the
"conspiracy theories" surrounding the false stories of why the Columbine
High School shooters, did what they did.
