  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth...

Peace in Christ.

We must come out from among the man-based churches who are keeping and serving their church scribes’ handwritings of ordinances/dogmas such as a “statement of faith,” “church constitution,” “creeds,” “by-laws,” etc, etc, etc.

The church handwritings of ordinances = “images,” “graven images”, “other gods,” “idols.”

We must come out from among them and be separate. What agreement has the temple of God with their “images” (idols = images)?

2Co 6:16-18
(16) And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols (IMAGES)? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

This is the “holy commandment” that is delivered to us to keep: to come out from among them and be separate....no longer being attached to them who are "unclean" because they are serving the abomination....their handwriting(s) that they have established in their churches.

(17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
(18) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Deuteronomy 7:26
Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.

This is the “way of righteousness”…to come out from among them and be separate.

It is the “holy” (to be separate for sanctification) commandment delivered unto us to do….and not return back to the man-based churches and be overcome.

2Pe 2:20-22 KJV
(20) For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
(21) For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

(22) But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

We must leave the “house”…the man-based church….we are in. We must leave behind the church “family” were once part of. We must leave it all behind for His sake and the gospel’s.

Mar 10:29-30 KJV
(29) And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

We will receive all that we leave behind. We will experience “persecutions” by those we leave behind…but we must not return evil for their evil.

We shall also receive an age-lasting life in THIS AGE that we are living in now. In this age, we receive the coming age-lasting life.

(30) But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. (in the age the coming age-lasting life)

This is the holy commandment delivered to us from the Father: “ARISE, let us go from here”…from the man-based churches. We show that we love the Father by doing so.

Joh 14:31 KJV
(31) But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

We must hear and obey and “get out of our country and from our kindred and from our father’s house” unto a land…that is, the earth…that He will show us. We inherit the promises that were made to Abraham. Genesis 12: 1-3. Genesis 22: 16-18.

Abraham’s father served “other gods” Joshua 24:2 . Our church fathers also are serving “other gods”….their documents that they use to judge others with…and have passed them down to other generations to keep and serve.

Gen 12:1-3 KJV
(1) Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

(2) And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

In you, all the families of the “earth” (the Adamah) shall be blessed. The people of the outside world are the “Adamah” from which were taken from….called out of.

(3) And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth (Adamah) be blessed.

God had formed the “man”…the Adam…out of the dust of the “ground”…that is, the Adamah. The “Adamah” are the people of the outside world who do not have the Spirit of God in them.

Gen 2:7 KJV
(7) And the LORD God formed man (ADAM) of the dust of the ground (ADAMAH), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

We were formed from the “dust” of the Adamah…the people of the outside world…for not many that are called are wise according to the flesh (the Adamah)….not many mighty…not many noble. We were called from them (the Adamah) and have received His Spirit.

We are formed from the “dust”…as the outside world considers us. We are the “foolish things of the world” in their eyes….the weak things of the world….the “dust” according to the Adamah.

1Co 1:26-29 KJV
(26) For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
(27) But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
(28) And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

(29) That no flesh should glory in his presence.

God chooses the poor of this world (that are considered the “dust” in the eyes of this world) to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom (His government) which He has promised to those who love Him.

Jas 2:5 KJV
(5) Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

We are to “shake ourselves from the dust” and arise and sit down. We are to be exalted in this world in His government.

Isa 52:1-3 KJV
(1) Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.
(2) Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

(3) For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.

The brother of “low degree” is to rejoice in that he is being exalted in this world.

Jas 1:9-10 KJV
(9) Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

(10) But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

Our spiritual “beggar” status shall “die” as we are carried away into Abraham’s bosom….inheriting the promises of Abraham. We leave the churches of men behind where they once ruled over us (and rejoiced in it) while we received bad things (the curses of disobedience).

Luk 16:22 KJV
(22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Gal 3:29 KJV
(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

We shall be set on high above all nations of the earth by the LORD our God....our Judge. A church handwriting is not our "judge" ....not a living judge.

Deu 28:1-2 KJV
(1) And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

(2) And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

We shall only move upward in this world if we hear and obey. We are to observe and do His commandments of the LORD our God….our Judge….instead of man’s handwritten commandments. He shall make us the head and not the tail.

Deu 28:13 KJV
(13) And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

We must hear the Word of Truth and BELIEVE and do the “holy commandment:” to arise from those who are dead in sins and trespasses in the man-based churches and go away from them and never look back.

By faith, Abraham OBEYED and went out into a place which he should afterwards receive the inheritance.

Heb 11:8 KJV
(8) By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

We must "put away the gods" of our church fathers....their handwritings that they made for us to keep and serve rather than keeping and serving God's commandments which are written upon our hearts and minds.

Jos 24:14 KJV

(14) Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood , and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

A Baker’s Dozen

Yes he did:

“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.” (Joh 12:3-6 NKJV)

John 12:3-8

KJV
Jesus replied, “Leave her alone! She has kept this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor with you, but you won't always have me.”

Belief in the afterlife is on the rise, even among religious ‘nones’

I suspect it is due to more awareness of near-death experiences and similar phenomena in the general public, as well as a growing interest in spirituality that isn't necessarily embodied in traditional religious institutions in western culture.

Fakers and Takers

I notice an emphasis on "Fakers", but not so much "Takers" here. This poem could use a bit more work, as it feels more of a generic description of a deceiver aka Faker, and less of a rhythmic construction. I would think more about the drama of deception and situate the reader into an actual "Faker" encounter with specific details and the glory of the correct response. This will bring the readers into the drama and invest them more in the outcome.
Linux, I appreciate you taking the time to give your critique of this writing. Do you believe that God gifts his followers with spiritual gifts, which are of the Spirit, and not of human flesh? Well, these poems are from the Spirit and not from my human flesh. I sit down with a blank screen in front of me and I pray that the Lord will give me the words to write, whether in song, in poetry, in devotionals, in Bible studies, or in Christian memes. When it is a poem, the Lord puts the words in my mind. It doesn't mean that I don't participate in the writing. I certainly do. But the poems are inspired by the Spirit, by God, and he feeds them to me in my mind, and I write them down as he gives them to me, and under his leading and direction. So, these poems cannot be altered unless it is for grammatical or spelling purposes, and it is necessary.

And on the subject of takers, I read this on Google:
AI Overview
Learn more

A "taker" is someone who consistently prioritizes their own interests and needs above others', seeking to gain as much as possible while offering little or no reciprocal value in return. They tend to be self-focused, may not consider others' feelings, and may exploit or manipulate situations to their advantage. END of Quote

I believe the description in the poem fits both with someone who is a faker and a taker. Sue Love

King Charles faces criticism over nods to 'Islam, other religious traditions' in Easter message

I see nothing offensive in the King's remarks. He is merely recognizing what is true. Jesus was a Jew, and Judaism and Islam both share similar social values.

The King of Britain also has to represent the entire nation of his country, not just Christians. His Eastern address should not be construed as a purely religious sermon.

Who Are They?

This is today’s “Verse of the Day” on Bible Gateway (on the internet):

“and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:28-30 NASB1995)

But what’s missing? What comes before the “and”? And who are “them” to whom Jesus Christ gives eternal life? Who are “they” who will never perish? There has to be a subject matter. And why cut it off?

Now, it is not just this particular internet site that does this. This is something being done by people all over the place, by many pastors and teachers of the Scriptures. This passage of Scripture, minus who “they” are, is being taught this way, and it is being applied broadly to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ with their lips. But does it apply to everyone who says, “Jesus is Lord”? If it does, why not say so? Why cut off who “they” are?

I believe the purpose, whether intentional or not by everyone who does this, is based in deception. They (who initiated this) want you to believe that if you “prayed the prayer,” or if you proclaimed verbally Jesus as Lord, or if you acknowledged belief that God raised Christ from the dead, that you now have eternal life with God secured for you, and that nothing and no one can take that away from you. But is that true? No! Why? Because this is being taught out of context and it is leaving out who “they” are.

For, with all of God’s promises come conditions. And that is biblical. So what are the conditions which go along with this passage?

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27 NASB1995)

Jesus’ sheep are his followers. And a follower of Jesus Christ is a disciple of Christ, a believer in Jesus Christ who follows the Lord in obedience to his commands, and who walks in his ways, and who learns from him as to what he should be and do and say as a follower of Christ. And he listens to Jesus, and this is not just hearing with our physical ears, but this is to attend to what the Lord is saying, to adhere to (to heed, to obey) his commands, to take what he says to heart, and to apply his words to our lives, in practice.

And if Jesus Christ knows us, i.e. if we are known by him, this has to do with an intimate relationship with him based in the truths of what the Scriptures teach on what it means to know God/Christ and to be known by him. And the Scriptures teach that we must deny self, die with Christ to sin, in practice, by the Spirit, and walk with him in obedience to his commands. But if we say we know him or we are in relationship with him, but we do not obey him, in practice, and we continue in deliberate and habitual sin, then he does not know us, and we do not know him (read 1 John chps. 1-3).

So, in context..

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27-30 NASB1995)

So, if we have not died with Christ to sin, and if we are not putting sin to death in our lives, by the Spirit, in practice, and if we are not walking (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, but we are still charting our own course, living however we want, still making sin our practice and not walks of obedience, then we are not the Lord’s sheep, and so these promises do not apply to our lives. For the Scriptures teach that if this is how we live that we will not inherit eternal life with God.

So, please be students of the Scriptures who read them in their full and appropriate context. For all of God’s promises have conditions that we must adhere to or we do not have those promises. And this is not claiming sinless perfection, either (see 1 John 2:1-2). Where God draws the “line in the sand,” basically, is between those who practice obedience to him and those who don’t; between those who practice putting sin to death, and those who are continuing in deliberate and habitual sin. So read Scriptures in context!

[Matt 7:13-14,21-23; Lu 9:23-26; Jn 10:27-30; Ac 26:18; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Co 10:1-22; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; Gal 5:16-24; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:1-17; Tit 2:11-14; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2; 1 Pet 2:24; 1 Jn 1:5-10; 1 Jn 2:3-6,15-17; 1 Jn 3:4-10]

My Sheep

Based off John 10:1-30 NIV

My sheep hear me. They know me.
They listen to my voice and obey.
I call them and lead them.
They know my voice, so they follow me.
They will never follow strangers.
They will run away from them.
The voice of a stranger they know not;
They do not follow him.

So, I tell you the truth that
I am the gate, so you enter in.
Whoever does enter
Will find forgiveness and will be saved.
Nonetheless whoever enters
Not by the gate; other way,
He is the thief and a robber.
Listen not, the sheep to him.

Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,
Who laid his own life down for the sheep.
I know them. They know me.
They will live with me eternally.
The thief only comes to steal and
Kill and to destroy the church.
I have come to give you life that
You may have it to the full…

They know my voice, so they follow me.

So Close, Yet So Far: Jimmy Kimmel Actually Nails 1 Reason Trump's Winning

Jimmy Kimmel, a late-night host notorious for his seething contempt for President Donald Trump, recently stumbled onto a rare moment of clarity regarding the president.

In a Rolling Stone interview, he accurately and precisely pinpointed a key reason behind Trump’s roaring political success.

Kimmel acknowledged that cancel culture was a key issue that has fueled Trump’s rise.

“I don’t think anybody should be canceled. I really don’t,” he said, even going so far as to admit that liberals attacking comedians over jokes has driven voters to Trump.

As shocking as it is to hear that from Kimmel, it’s almost more shocking to type: He’s not wrong. Rampant cancel culture over the past decade has made people hypersensitive, with jokes — oftentimes meant to offend at least a little — becoming grounds for exile.

Trump, seemingly uncancelable, thrives in this sort of climate.

The backlash against comedians like Dave Chappelle for “offensive” humor has pushed many toward Trump’s unapologetic style. A 2024 Cato Institute study showed 62 percent of Americans fear expressing opinions due to cancellation.

Trump’s resilience against cancellation resonates with those tired of walking on eggshells. His 2024 landslide victory over Kamala Harris proved this, with America rejecting political correctness for raw authenticity.

Kimmel got this part right: The left’s obsession with policing speech has spectacularly backfired. People naturally crave freedom to laugh, speak, and offend without fear of stupidly vindictive retribution.

I think a lot of people on the left are realizing they took it too far. There's a clear schism forming between the ones that want to pump the brakes on the woke culture and the ones who want to keep driving farther over the cliff.

The new covid.gov webaite makeover

I can't say how bad Trump look or is. Because of this forum rules. But if Trump really believes China unleashed this horrible COVID-19 virus on purposes. Because of Trump harassment . Then he would stop starting trouble with China. But he knows it's BS. Trying to make people mad.
Not sure the theory is China released it on purpose. I believe most people who go with the lab leak believe it was accidental and the outrage is based more on the fact Fauci was allegedly helping to fund what amounts to a bioweapon.

Levite's rebuke

@eraja

This is my first day posting in here, and I think I'm right in thinking this is a debate forum where non-Christians are welcome? If I'm mistaken, please forgive.

You've asked a great question. Genesis 49 is a key text in Jewish tradition, and Jacob's words are seen not merely as blessings or rebukes but as prophetic insight: “what will happen to you in the end of days” (acharit ha-yamim), meaning the future of each tribe. Jewish commentators wrestle deeply with the implications of Jacob's words, especially concerning Simeon and Levi. Here are some of the ideas that they suggest:

Jacob condemns Simeon and Levi for their violent behavior, specifically referring to the when they massacred the men of Shechem in revenge for the rape of their sister Dinah. Jacob’s language is striking: he curses their anger, not their persons directly. He says: “Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.” (Genesis 49:7)

Rashi (11th c., France) emphasizes that Jacob curses the anger, not the individuals themselves. He points out that the punishment—scattering—isn't purely negative. For Levi, it becomes a means of atonement and sanctification. "I will divide them... I will make them wander as scribes and teachers of children, so that they will not be numerous or influential." In other words, the "scattering" of Levi becomes their mission: religious service and teaching throughout Israel.

2. The Midrash (Bereshit Rabbah 98:5) expands the idea that Jacob’s curse becomes rechanneled for Levi: “Because they displayed zealotry improperly in Shechem, their descendants would one day channel that zeal for God, like in the incident of the Golden Calf.” This alludes to Exodus 32, where the Levites responded to Moses’ call, “Who is for the Lord, come to me!” and acted to purge the camp of idolatry. That zeal, once violent and self-serving, was now redirected for a holy purpose.

3. Nachmanides sees Jacob’s statement as both a critique and a prophecy. For Simeon, the tribe becomes weak and mostly absorbed by Judah (see Joshua 19:1). For Levi, there is no inheritance of land, but later elevated to serve God in the Mishkan and Temple. He emphasizes the transformation of Levi’s fate: “Although Jacob cursed their anger, the Levites later merited the priesthood and service of the sanctuary because of their faithfulness in the wilderness.” After the Golden Calf episode, Levi is set apart. “At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord…” (Deuteronomy 10:8) Instead of land, they are given God as their inheritance (Deut. 10:9). Their "scattering" becomes a spiritual one; they are dispersed throughout Israel to serve in the Temple and teach Torah. Cities were allocated to the Levites across the land (Numbers 35), fulfilling Jacob’s prophecy, but for a holy purpose.

I hope that helps augment the possibilities for you.

Shalom

New Coronavirus Discovered in Chinese Bats: merbecovirus uses same ACE2 receptor to infect as COVID

New Coronavirus Discovered in Chinese Bats

HKU5-CoV-2 was found by a Chinese research team led by virologist Shi Zhengli, known as "Batwoman" for her work on coronaviruses, especially at the Wuhan Institute, which has been at the center of the theory suggesting COVID-19 came from a lab leak—something Shi has denied.

HKU5-CoV-2 is a coronavirus belonging to the merbecovirusgroup, which also includes the virus that causes MERS.

It has a higher potential to infect humans than other coronaviruses because of the way it binds to human ACE2, making it similar to SARS-CoV-2 and NL63 (a common cold virus). [emphasis added; this does not appear to be spreading in humans... at the moment.] HKU5-CoV-2 was able to infect human cell cultures in the mini-human organ models the scientists used.

Article in Cell

Bat-infecting merbecovirus HKU5-CoV lineage 2 can use human ACE2 as a cell entry receptor

It is important to note that HKU5-CoV-2 was sequenced after 2019 and that it did not exist in the Wuhan lab at the time of the covid19 outbreak. This is ongoing research that if anything supports the zoonotic theory of origins

Chinese scientists 'create' a mutant coronavirus strain that attacks the BRAIN and has a 100% kill rate in mice

I was conscious that at the very beginning of Covid-19 there was also debate amongst scientists and regulators as to the safety of gain-of-function research. Gain-of-function research - Wikipedia
I would argue that people further away from the science are more likely to see the real risks of this activity but are less likely to see the benefit of the science gained from it.

A forthcoming paper from the virologist at the heart of the lab leak theory indicates that there were no bat-viruses directly related to COVID-19 in the Wuhan lab. 233 sequences were surveyed.

Also a foreign scientist (Aussie) who actually worked in the lab in 2019 cannot corroborate the wild accusations being made in current US government literature on this. She describes a very safe containment regime.

Illegal Alien Arrested in Tennessee After Impregnating 11-Year-Old Girl He Met on Facebook

God Desires All People to be Saved

As someone who is in the Christian Universal Redemption camp I believe that That God always gets what He desires in the end and through this process of creation all will work out to that end eventually. The salvation of all is already taken place because of the cross, but the process is still ongoing and will not be complete till 1 Cor 15:28 when God is all in all. God knows we have to live in this fallen world and the more people who follow Jesus the better our time will be. Most of the problems we face is from people not following Jesus, other than the fallen worldly disasters if all followed Jesus our time down here would be so much better. The other reason for wanting all to follow Jesus is that when you experience Gods love you want all to come in because Gods love is infinite and the more that are following the fuller our lives will be.
Thank you for reading and for responding. Sorry, but I am not comprehending exactly your meaning here.

What kind of star did the magi see?

Possible Historical Sequence:
  • Augustus’s census decree (late 8 BC) would take months to reach distant provinces.
  • Herod’s dynastic crises in 7 BC (traveling to Rome and Beirut) likely delayed any census or loyalty oath.
  • In 6 BC, the loyalty oath Herod demanded (Josephus) plausibly parallels Luke’s census as a local Herodian registration.
  • The Pharisees’ resistance and subsequent persecution likely fueled messianic expectations and unrest.
  • The Magi’s arrival in 5 BC, with their dramatic inquiry and the appearance of the star, reignited and focused these hopes, inspiring the Pharisees to concoct their own prophecy that Pheroras (wife of Herod's brother) and her children would overthrow Herod, which plot Herod foiled and punished with the same the same ferocity as the massacre of the innocents.

Moreover, the involvement of Pheroras' wife hints at a maternal theme, consistent with some indignation at Herod's execution of dozens of young children in the massacre, and resonates with the indignation and grief associated with Herod’s execution of children in the Massacre of the Innocents.

The prophecy given to Pheroras’ wife by certain Pharisees specifically promised that the kingdom would come to her and her children after Herod’s downfall. This focus on her as a mother and her children as heirs places maternal hope and future generations at the center of the political-religious drama.

Herod’s actions—executing not only rivals but also their families, and ultimately ordering the massacre of Bethlehem’s infants—stand in stark contrast to the maternal hopes embodied by Pheroras’ wife. The massacre narrative in Matthew is deeply shaped by the image of mothers mourning their lost children, echoing Jeremiah’s “Rachel weeping for her children”.

The prominence of women and children in both the Pharisaic prophecy and the biblical massacre narrative underscores how Herod’s paranoia and violence targeted not just political opponents, but also the most vulnerable—mothers and their children.

Summary:
The maternal aspirations of Pheroras’ wife, as highlighted by the prophecy, provide a poignant counterpoint to Herod’s violence against children. This parallel deepens the emotional and symbolic resonance of the Massacre of the Innocents, connecting political intrigue and prophecy with the suffering and indignation of mothers in Herod’s Judea. This hints that Josephus was obliquely referencing the massacre of the innocents in 5 BC with all his references to Herod's violence against children and motherly outrage from 7-5 BC.
