  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Government attorney tells judge in ICE case it's like "pulling teeth" to get DHS/ICE/DOJ to obey court orders.

More of the court transcript, annotated by LawDork

The unfathomable Minnesota transcript that must be read, as it tells the reality of America today

It is an unfathomable exercise to read lawyers and a federal judge discussing at length the ways in which the rule of law is slipping through our nation’s fingers, but it is an absolutely necessary document to read for anyone who wants to protect the rule of law — and America.

And, though a lot was made on Tuesday of one comment from Le about wanting to be held in contempt so that she could get some sleep, I want to start by sharing the full paragraph, which adds some important context about Le — who had earlier told Blackwell that she had already threatened to leave the assignment.

“We think as well as we read, and we read as well as we kneel!”

Ignatius Press recently published Pearce’s new book, Great Books for Good Men: Reflections on Literature and Manhood. We recently corresponded regarding the book, discussing literature and the many lessons and insights—in this case, especially for men—to be gleaned about pursuing a wise and virtuous life.

An Open Letter to US Dioceses

In the past, we’ve trusted the oversight of bishops and the proficiency and good intentions of chancery staff. That is no longer a prudent strategy, if it ever was. Blind trust with no accountability may actually encourage shoddy behavior.

Saint Augustine On Reading Scripture

Together, Scott and Rob walk us through the inseparable relationship between St. Augustine and biblical theology and the different dimensions behind reading and studying Scripture.

How and Why Some Angels Fell from Grace

In a previous article, we looked at why Adam and Eve, whom God created full of grace, sinned when Satan tempted them (click here to read it). But this begs the questions—what temptation caused Satan and other angels to sin, and why would God have created them knowing this would happen? This article will hopefully elucidate the reasons. Let’s begin with the angels in general.

Ladies, what are your hobbies?

I’m more into drawing than painting, though I have been reading painting books lately. I think I may want to stick with dry medium like colored pencils and maybe pastels. Some coloring medium that goes good with charcoal drawings would be my absolute jam. The quest continues.

I also like ink as a medium, especially for more design-y and internet-y things. I think I just need a coloring medium that works, or some research into color theory.

—————————————

To be honest, I have the same problem with a long list of hobbies. I have my old friend Trauma to thank for that. In addition to its addition of Toxic Hobbies that make me miserable, it has blurred the line between Hobby and Work, trying anything and everything to escape my situation or otherwise survive. Now my Hobbies are in a state of transition.

Needless to say, I’m ready to end my icky relationship with Sewing and it’s attendant Machine Repair obligations, and move on to something more enjoyable. Probably I would enjoy weaving better, on a small loom size. I also want to try to learn some dance. As a child I really liked that, so maybe taking that up again would be suitable. The drawing I mentioned above I would like to continue to expand.

At the same time I would benefit from calling Woodworking, Gardening, and Machine Repair Work, for that is what they are, and pay myself accordingly. Probably the same for gaming of various kinds, because I get paid for doing it, even though I enjoy it. I don’t do it unless there is some monetary or spiritual benefit involved.

Then there is Poetry and Programming Technology, which I suppose are abandoned Career pathways that basically function as Hobbies now until I can get back to monetizing them. I don’t think broke people really have hobbies, if you’re broke, everything is either monetizable or a mental health treatment to cope with your life, not a hobby. But what I’ve described above is the closest I’ve got.

TRUMP "MISSED THE DEADLINE" TO CALL OFF TX GERRYMANDERING; CALIFORNIA WILL NOW DRAW NEW, MORE “BEAUTIFUL MAPS”

There is nothing normal given what Texas did at the behest of a president.
It was normal in that they just passed it via legislature and had the governor sign it--the normal way to pass a law. California was legally required to take a separate step; putting it to referendum was far more likely something they did because they were legally required to do so than for any idea of moral duty to put it in front of the people.

Three Reasons Why I Walked Away from Social Media

Hi, Michie. I personally left social media around 2010. I only used Facebook, but deleted my account due to the constant passive-aggressive actions of those I knew. When I left, my relationships with all these people (many of whom are relatives) became non-existent. They all ghosted me, and one got the police to tell me not to contact them. Today, I only do LinkedIn for business reasons, and my posts are only business-related. In hindsight, I do not miss using Facebook. I do not have any friends to speak of today (since 2010), but then again--that takes work. IMHO, social media is the lazy road for those who don't want to do the work that real relationships demand. It promises that one can "be more connected", but the results are often hollow and at the cost of one's mental well-being. I have observed the world's populous become absolutely controlled by the influence of social media, and deep down believe that it is a device of evil meant to keep people's relationships artificial and at arm's length, rob their wallets with endless ads, and shape how they think. Biblical precepts are at odds with this, so I have decided to use some wisdom and avoid it for the most part. God knows who I am, and that is enough for me.

Gov. Bill Lee shares how his faith guided him after wife's death, how he first met Jelly Roll at Nat'l Prayer Breakfast

At the 74th annual National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday morning, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee shared how his Christian faith helped him get through the suffering and grief that he and his children felt following the tragic death of his wife.

Lee gave the keynote address at the annual gathering in the nation's capital, where he recounted how he and his children struggled with deep sorrow after his first wife, Carol Ann Lee, died in July 2000.

He recounted thinking that he was “the most blessed man ever” shortly before his wife unexpectedly died in a horse riding accident, saying that his life “took a very dark turn” that day.

Lee talked about “the staggering grief” of his children, which included tough questions from a 4-year-old and his oldest daughter later attempting suicide with a gun, thankfully surviving.

“The days of my life had become chapters of grief, brokenness and sorrow,” he recalled.

Lee recounted ordering a marble grave marker for his wife in the family cemetery, and being left alone with the marker engraved with a Celtic cross and the Bible verse Proverbs 31.

World Vision calls for urgent assistance in DRC after landslide killed over 200

The Evangelical humanitarian organization World Vision is pleading for humanitarian assistance following a recent landslide in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which claimed over 200 lives and an estimated 70 children.

In a statement published Tuesday, the United States-headquartered charitable organization reacted to the Jan. 28 landslide at the Rubaya artisanal mining site in Masisi Territory, North Kivu, where children work in the mines.

World Vision warns that the disaster has "had major consequences for communities already weakened by years of armed conflict, forced displacement, and chronic poverty." Amid years of conflict, a desire to control mineral-rich areas has fueled violence that has pushed countless families from their homes and has left children with "few options other than unsafe and poorly regulated mining or other hazardous work to survive.”

Our Hearts Rejoice in God

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in You.” (Psalm 33:18-22 NASB1995)

Who are those who fear the Lord? They are all who, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, have denied self, died with Christ to sin, and been raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin, but now as servants of the Lord in obedience to his commands (New Covenant). They are all who are living righteously, by the grace of God, who are faithful in service to the Lord Jesus. And they are all who believe that God will do both what he promised and what he also threatened.

[Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 6:1-23; Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23]

And those who hope for the lovingkindness of the Lord are not those with just wishful thinking, but this hope is a confident assurance of God’s lovingkindness to all who call on him in truth, who deny self, die to sin, and obey our Lord in daily practice. We can be assured that God is with us, that he is directing our path, and that nothing will happen to us but what God allows it, and he allows it for his purposes, and that he will carry us through it all to the finish line, by his grace, in his power, via our surrender to Him.

[Psalm 145:17-20; Psalm 13:4-6; Psalm 23:1-6; Psalm 31:7-8,15-16]

And what is the goal in our salvation from sin? It is not just so that we will have our sins forgiven so that when we die we will go to heaven, and not to hell. The goal of our salvation is to deliver us out of our slavery (addiction) to sin so that we will now follow our Lord in walks of obedience to his commands in holy living, by his grace and in his power. For if sin remains our practice, and not surrender to God in obedience to our Lord’s commands, then we will not escape hell, and we will not have eternal life with God.

[Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 5:3-6; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Acts 26:18]

What should it look like for our souls to wait for the Lord? Well, it definitely has to do with patience, endurance, faith, and belief in God’s sovereignty over our lives, that he is the one in control, and that he has all things under his command. And if we truly believe that God is our help and our shield, then we should have no fear of danger, and we should not fret what may be coming, but we should be those who put our hope fully in God to work out his plan. We should put our trust fully in him without fear of the future.

[Psalm 33:20-22; Jeremiah 1:4-19; Matthew 10:24-28; Philippians 1:12-14; 2 Timothy 1:6-7; 1 Peter 3:13-17; Revelation 2:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10]

$1 million a day: TSA flags suspicious cash outflow at Minneapolis–St. Paul Airport

If you're not going to bother responding to my point, then reply to some other post.
Your post simply said that Solomon wasn't a reputable source, so I provided a source from a local Minneapolis news affiliate that is reputable.

Literally every single post of your in this thread had to do with concerns about the source that the other poster used

I addressed that directly by providing a credible source (a local-to-Minneapolis mainstream affiliate leveraging the statements of a 15 year FBI joint task force veteran talking about the exact same things happening 7 years ago)

Which point of yours am I not addressing?

DENMARK’S GREENLAND ILLUSION Sovereignty without power

I had a thought on this recently. There have been mining contracts made that have not had anything done for 10 years. Some of this is probably the harsh conditions; but some of the delay is getting permits through both the Danish and the Greenlander regulatory agencies. My thought was this, what happens if the U.S. needs Arctic early warning and missile interceptors in Greenland and Northern Canada and the countries won't approve the installations or will only do them on short term leases? Do we let 57,000 Greenlanders put millions of people at risk of nuclear annihilation?
The existing 1951 treaty with Denmark (Greenland added later as a party) largely permits expansion of US military assets without any significant discussion. Where there might be more discussion necessary might be basing of US combat forces. But just more technical bases...that wouldn't require more than advance notice of intentions from the US.

That's whole world of difference from a corporation establishing environmentally damaging resource extraction.

Border czar Tom Homan says over 145,000 missing children brought in under Biden have been found

Those 170 children are safer in detention than the hundreds of thousands whom are being trafficked for cheap child labor and other despicable forms of human trafficking.
Yes, safer in detention than trafficking. Lots of reasons though for the 6k or so children in detention that are not there because they were trafficked.
