  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Monsignor Stephen Rossetti's claims about aerial phenomena and demons 'gravely undermined' the Church's teachings, Cardinal Robert McElroy said.

Washington Archbishop Cardinal Robert McElroy on June 3 removed a prominent priest from his role as an archdiocesan exorcist after the priest made remarks linking UFOs to demonic activity.

Monsignor Stephen Rossetti was “removed ... as an exorcist of the Archdiocese of Washington,” McElroy said in a statementposted to the archdioceseʼs website. Rossetti is a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse, New York, the statement noted.

In addition to Msgr. Rossettiʼs removal, Cardinal McElroy said the archdiocese had “ended all affiliation between the archdiocese and the Saint Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal located in Washington, D.C.”

Led by Msgr. Rossetti, the St. Michael Center is a Catholic nonprofit that “conducts spiritual education workshops and trains clergy, religious, and laity,” according to its website.

I'm not going to get into a theological bun fight, although I think the Archdiocese has over reacted personally.

But in the warning he gave online, Msgr. Rossetti mentioned "... the speed...". Naturally he was thinking of the speed at which alleged UFO's supposedly move.

Msgr. Rossetti had on May 29 posted a video to YouTube in which the exorcist had expressed his personal belief that “many, if not most, [UFO] sightings are, in fact, demons.” Such entities, he said in the video, “can do things that we canʼt do, such [as] the speed and all sorts of things that human beings canʼt do.”

I've often mentioned that my father turned up in my room the night he died. Most of the time he "stood" around the foot of the bed, but I also noticed he seemed to move a bit from side to side. I wondered at the time why he just didn't stay put.

I thought about this for some time. Eventually I realised I hadn't taken into account my own movement through universe.

A quick search gave this AI answer

We are hurtling through space at roughly 2.1 to 2.2 million km/h (~1.3 to 1.37 million mph) depending on your reference point. Because motion in space is relative, this speed is the sum of a few compounding "rides" we are on simultaneously:Earth's Rotation: As the planet spins on its axis, a person standing at the equator moves at about 1,670 km/h.Orbiting the Sun: Earth zooms through our solar system's orbit at an average speed of 107,000 km/h.Orbiting the Galaxy: Our entire solar system travels around the center of the Milky Way at roughly 828,000 km/h.Galactic Movement: The Milky Way itself hurtles through intergalactic space toward the cosmic microwave background at an astonishing 1.3 to 2.1 million km/h.

Taking the lower figure, 1.3 million kmh per hour is the same as 361 kilometres per second.

Now that is no problem for me because I'm firmly bound to earth by gravity and moving along with it wherever it goes.

But for a purely spiriitual being on which gravity has no impact, it either has to provide its own momemtum or something else has to provide it. My father had just died, so he was an absolute new chum when it came to keeping up with the supernatural speedway. I think something was keeping him there but also allowing him to drift a bit from side to side. What's a couple of feet of sideways drift when you're moving at 361 kilometers per second or more?

Since our guardian angels and personal demons are also keeping up with us, then it's obvious that "speed" is no problem for them.

It makes you wonder about the logistics of maintaining heaven, hell and purgatory in separate "locations". For example how is the the "great cloud of witnesses" continuing to witness us as we hurtle around the universe?
