CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kashvi was arrested under state anti-conversion laws and spent three days in jail. While in jail, she said, she had no fear or worry. She had an opportunity to minister to a girl who had been in prison for two years. Many of the Hindu prisoners and some of the police officials also asked her to pray for them, and she was able to share the gospel with the police superintendent, who had asked her to pray for him after noticing her character and honesty. Fazal, a displaced Afghan Christian, was recently arrested in Central Asia for his Christian activities. Police eventually released him after he paid a significant fine. Front-line workers say Fazal has been very active in sharing his faith with other displaced Afghans. Since his arrest, Fazal has moved from house to house to avoid authorities, and he fears being returned to the Taliban. "If I go to Afghanistan, the Taliban will kill me," he said. Duy and Sua are a minority couple in Vietnam. When Sua decided to place her trust in Christ in 2016, her marriage nearly collapsed because Duy didn't want his wife to follow this "foreign faith." God miraculously intervened, however, and Duy became not just a believer but a committed evangelist. His family kicked them out, and their village would not let them have good land for building, so they built a house at the foot of a hill outside town. Pope Francis met with a group of Israelis and their family members who were freed after being held hostage in Gaza by Hamas and other Palestinian militants.
The private meeting with 16 people, including two children, took place at the Vatican Nov. 14. A few members held posters with the faces and names of men still held in captivity.

Church of England senior clergy facing calls for more resignations

More senior clergy in the Church of England might need to resign following the Archbishop of Canterbury's decision to step down over personal failings in how decades of "abhorrent" child abuse by the late John Smyth was responded to.
Julie Conalty, the bishop of Birkenhead and deputy lead bishop for safeguarding in the Church of England, said Archbishop Justin Welby had "done the right thing" by resigning but that his departure alone might not be enough as far-reaching change within the Church of England is needed.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4's "Today" program, Conalty said: "Just the Archbishop of Canterbury resigning is not going to solve the problem. This is about institutional changes, our culture and a systemic failure, so there must be more that we need to do. Very possibly some of the people should go."

Full Moon Determination

Thanks Bob. This is mostly concerning the new moon. I have that information already. And truth be told, I have the means to determine full moons. But just as there was a visual methodology for decisively declaring the new moon, I'm wondering if there is something similar for the full moon. I haven't seen anything in the Talmud to definitively suggest if there was or not, except for the vague statement about destroying your leaven if you see the full moon at dawn, for it is the 14th if you do.It seems that from the time of Ezra (400-500BC) to 70AD when the second temple was destroyed, there was an astronomical council which determined the precise date of a new moon, and from that the full moon.

BUT, it's not always the 14th when the full moon is seen at dawn. It is often the case at that time of the year. But it's not always the case throughout the year. So, for the sake of other calculations, such as the Olympiads, I'm trying to nail down anything I can find for the ancient world that delineates an ancient method for determining the full moon. It's only technically full for about twenty-four hours. But it looks full for up to three days (the day before, the day of, and the day after). With events that are dependent upon the full moon, like the Olympic games, there must have been a set method for saying, "THIS is the full moon," rather than, "well, it looks full."

Pastor Steve Lawson Removed Indefinitely

I believe that Dr. Lawson stated that they had an "inappropriate" but not sexual relationship. So I'm not sure one could say she was his "mistress". But what he considers an "inappropriate" relationship I'm not sure. I suspect it was more than just spending more time then he should have but less then a steamy bedroom scene.

Lawson is, tragically, a perfect case of how someone can ship wreck their ministry. I was never too much of a fan of Lawson but I felt he was a decent guy and his messages were decent. Now I have a hard time listening or reading anything by Lawson. It isn't that what he has to say is untrue. He had valuable insight. However, now I can't listen to him without thinking of his sinful behavior. Whether this is right or wrong of me, I don't know. It's just what it is. And I'm sure I'm not along.
I pray for Steve Lawson and my heart goes out to him. I think his repentence is sincere, but it is as though it is too little, too late. Many faithful kings in the Old Testament (e.g. David, Uzziah, Joash, etc.) failed as they grew older. We should all take Lawson's example, and those of the faithful kings who fell into sin, as a warning that we should take heed when we think we stand because we can surely fall, regardless of how long we have been faithful in Christ.
