  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will be a month and met up with someone I changed their life around

I mentor the troubled teens as well and this is my way of giving back. What my late dad did gave me a wake up call at age 16, signed me up for a program for troubled teens to see what prison life is like. It was tough love from him and knew he had to do this after I got a minor in possession ticket. I have been there for her through it all. Her son knows me well too
Thank you for helping those in need. We need more people in this world like you.

Passover sacrifice: roasted or boiled?

Roasted, Berean Standard Bible, Exodus 12:

9a Do not eat any of the meat raw or cooked [H1310] in boiling [H1311] water, but only roasted [H6748] over the fire..
cooked
מְבֻשָּׁ֖ל (mə·ḇuš·šāl)
Verb - Pual - Participle - masculine singular
Strong's 1310: To boil up, cooking, to ripen

Strong's Hebrew: 1310. בָּשַׁל (bashal) — 28 Occurrences

This Hebrew word had two meanings, Brown-Driver-Briggs:

  1. boil
  2. cook (general)
To make the meaning clear, a 2nd Hebrew word (cognate) was added:

boiling
וּבָשֵׁ֥ל (ū·ḇā·šêl)
Conjunctive waw | Adjective - masculine singular
Strong's 1311: Cooked, boiled

To affirm cooking action, yet another word was added:

roasted
צְלִי־ (ṣə·lî-)
Noun - masculine singular construct
Strong's 6748: Roasted, a roast

H6748 was an unambiguous word that occurred only three times.

Sometime later (ESV), De 16:

7a you shall cook [H1310] it [the Passover lamb] and eat it at the place that the LORD your God will choose.
How to cook it?

Berean Standard Bible interpreted it as

you shall roast it and eat it in the place the LORD your God will choose.
The Hebrew H1310 did not specifically say roast. BSB interpreted it as roasting, which was valid given Exodus 12:9.

Many years later, in 2 Chronicles 35 (Literal Standard Version):

13 they cook [H1310] the Passover with fire according to the ordinance, and they have cooked [H1310] the sanctified things in pots, and in kettles, and in pans—for all the sons of the people.
How?

English Standard Version interpreted:

they roasted [H1310] the Passover lamb with fire according to the rule;
the rule of Exodus 12:9

and they boiled [H1310] the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the lay people.
Passover sacrifice: roasted or boiled?

The apparent contradictions resulted from the ambiguities in the Hebrew word H1310, which could mean boil or cook. However, the contradictions can be resolved nicely if we stick to the clarity of H6748 in Exodus 12:9.

White lies and desperation
Hard times and conversation
No one should ever love me like you do
Sometimes my bad decisions
Define my false suspicions
No one should ever love me like you do
While I'm on this road you take my hand
Somehow you really love who I really am
I push you away, still you won't let go
You grow your roses on my barren soul

Who am I, who am I, who am I
To be loved by you?
Who am I, who am I, who am I
To be loved by you?
Who am I, who am I, who am I
To be loved by you?
Who am I, who am I, who am I?

Last night, confidence was shaken
My wounds and my past was saying
No one should ever love me like you do
While I'm on this road you take my hand
Somehow you really love who I really am
I push you away, still you won't let go
You grow your roses on my barren soul

Still I can't imagine that I've earned your trust
I don't understand where your love comes from

My Savior and my Lord, who am I to be loved by YOU? I know that I shall never, EVER, be deserving of You, Your love, Your Grace, Your Mercy, and your Forgiveness of Sins. Nevertheless, I lift up Halleluiahs to the Lord Jesus Christ for loving me, saving me, and forgiving me.
I am loving the indie pop vibes in this one. :) One little thing, is that the song does not mention Jesus by name. So, on a Biblical rating, I would give it a 5/10, but for a composition rating, I give it a 9/10. So, therefore, the song gets a solid 7/10 in my books.

The song does remind me of Romans again, and the verse applies to both Who Am I by Needtobreathe, and Casting Crowns - Who Am I (The Asidors Cover). Both songs have different lyrics, but connect to the same verse or message, that God loves us, even when we are broken.

Romans 5:6-8 (ESV): "For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

The Elements by TobyMac

I lace the boots up, it's straight to the door
'Cause this, is worth fighting for
I get my head right, the heart's gotta follow
Whisper a prayer like there ain't no tomorrow
Take a breath, and I exhale slow
I wasn't made for this kind of cold
This ain't the kind of place that you wanna know
These are the elements, I'm telling you bro
This world, is up in my grill
This world, is shooting to kill
This world always gotta be stealing my heart
This world always tryin' to rip my family apart (apart, apart, apart)

I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
I got spirit, I got faith
I might bend but I won't break
I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
And I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down

This ain't our home, nah, not even close
They camouflage like we're fighting some ghost
You start to doubt everything that you know
I feel the heat and it's starting to show
They try to break us, break us, make us wanna give in
Lay down our arms, Novocain us again
Lay down a fight, I could never relent
And I'ma take it all the way to the end

I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
I got spirit, I got faith
I might bend but I won't break
I'll fight the elements (elements, elements, elements)
And I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down
I'ma go down swinging, if I go down

Let's go
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements
Elements, the elem-elements

Father, God, let me see it for what it is
This ain't neutral we're up against
These elements push me to the fence
And then I end up on top of it
If I'm not careful
To recognize what is pushing in
Open my eyes to these elements
Stand up and rise to these elements
I'm willing to fight, willing to fight

The elements
Elements, the elem-elements (I can feel it)
Elements, the elem-elements (I can feel it)
Elements, the elem-elements (I can feel it)
Elements, the elem-elements (let's go)
Elements, the elem-elements (I can feel it)

TobyMac made this song and put out this video about 5 years ago. I really love TobyMac and I'm a big fan of almost ALL of his music. What do y'all think about "The Elements" by TobyMac.
I like the old TobyMac better, but this new one has deep meanings, and the beat and orchestral parts are pretty darn cool. Also, I have noticed that a lot of songs posted here recently tie in to Spiritual Warfare. It seems that we are just a hair's breadth away from a great shift in our society, and we must stand strong in our faith. :)

The song reminds me of Romans and John, where we must fight the patterns of the world, and where God has overcome the world:

Romans 12:2 (NIV): "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

John 16:32-33 (NIV): "A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

why the late dream

I have had plenty of what I call"circumstantial" dreams...they depict future events usually alarming in some way. Many people have had them.Usually they come to pass from 3-12 months later for me.. I had a dream/vision of a big storm on the Gulf about 2 years ago. I was expecting it to play out during hurricane season that year but nothing happened. It was over 2 years until Helene showed up. The interesting part of the dream was that the gulf itself wasn't emphasized but the mountains north of the gulf that I thought was in the Tennessee area or maybe Georgia. In the dream there was an Airstream trailer and when it got to land around the northern gulf it blew up into a giant sphere instantly. Then the mountains were shown. A couple months back recently there was another storm in the area but when I heard its name I thought somehow that it wasn't the storm I had seen in the dream. When I heard the name Helene I felt it fit somehow although in the dream there wasn't a name mentioned for the storm. Now Helene has done exactly what the dream had shown. I still don't understand the delay of time but having the dreams is always good and I always thank the Spirit for them in my daily prayers. Its communication from God and that is comforting and informative and shows he cares. I wonder now even more about the New Madrid fault now and wonder if the nation is in for a double whack.

Dreams and visions

Here is a dream I had last September. Part of it came true within an hour of waking up.

The dream started out in my office room. There was garbage littered on the floor. As I was picking up the garbage, I wasted time inspecting some of the items, which were filthy. I realized the garbage wasn't things that I had thrown away, but belonged to someone else. After this, I realized it was garbage day, and I had forgotten to put the garbage bins out for pickup. This was in the dream, when in reality, it really was garbage day, and I did forget! After realizing this, a man in a black suit appeared. I didn't recognize him, but sensed some how he was a "pastor/teacher". He was trying to "help me", either sharing his theology from the Bible or something. Suddenly, I felt a burning discomfort on my side, and told the man this. He then tried to help further, but I knew he could not, and he wouldn't leave me alone. That is when I heard from God say to me "Lean on Me", in that quiet still voice. I told the man what God told me, hoping he'd go away and I could just trust in God as he told me to do so. But then the man became insistent in helping, and started wrestling me. After this the dream ended, and I couldn't really fall asleep. Also realizing I had to get out of bed early to make sure I put out the garbage.

I finally made myself get out of bed at 6:30am to put the garbage out. This was where God got my attention, if he didn't have it already. As I went to the alley to put out the first bin, the area I leave the bins, had garbage scattered about! Someone had left garbage in a reusable walmart bag behind the garage, and I assume a raccoon or another animal had scattered it. It had also rained last night, so it was more messier than it should have been. As I used a broom and pan to pick it all up, I started looking over the contents of the garbage. Seeing various random things. I then remembered this was like my dream, when I was picking up the garbage in my office.

The coincidence of me picking up garbage in a dream, then about 7 hours later in real life, are quite slim. The two main things I took away from the dream is that God wants me to go to him for all things. And that I need to get rid of material things I don't need which will be burned up anyways at some point, and don't haven't any eternal value.

Its been a year since I had this dream. Yesterday evening, I encountered the "pastor/teacher", at my church's prayer night, which I'm currently leading. I took over back in the spring, when our interim pastor retired. I have no formal training in leading these types of events, and have been heavily relying on God to work through me, and lead our group. We start with a hymn, then I give a short devotional, before we spend time in prayer for various needs.

There is an elderly man who comes at times, and previously would come with a spirit of strife. He is a bible teacher, and spends much time evangelizing in our community. The church advertises the meeting as a time of prayer, however, this man usually insists we do a bible study instead and derails the event. Sometimes causing another brother to argue with him. This effects our spirit right when we're about to go into prayer. He also resembled the man in my dream yesterday. He was wearing black clothes, and his skin was dark, as he is east indian. Similar to my dream. Yesterday, he came, and behaved. However, once we were done, he talked to me privately, telling me how I need to ignore the leadership and change the prayer event into a bible study. He started to give me instructions on how I should lead the group. While he was speaking, I knew God was directing me to lead the group according to His will. While the man talked to me, I saw in his eyes this ungodly like anger. On one hand, he spoke certain truths, however, they were not according to God's will.

If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him SEVENFOLD

What were you thinking about this?
Of course it is very important to study the Bible. I think Science and History helps us to better understand our Bible. God gives us natural evidence to strength our faith and to learn more about Him. It is good that He does because a lot of religious people can not be trusted. He even puts a desire in us to learn more about Him.

There are several reasons why some people might think science is a lie:

  1. Misunderstanding of the Scientific Process: Science is a method of inquiry that involves forming hypotheses, conducting experiments, and revising theories based on evidence. This process can lead to changes in scientific understanding, which some people might interpret as inconsistency or dishonesty1.
  2. Misinformation and Disinformation: In the age of social media, false information can spread quickly. Some individuals or groups may deliberately spread misinformation to undermine scientific consensus for various reasons, including political or financial gain1.
  3. Complexity and Accessibility: Scientific concepts can be complex and difficult to understand. When people don’t fully grasp these concepts, they might be more susceptible to doubting or rejecting scientific findings2.
  4. Historical Misconduct: There have been instances where scientists have committed fraud or misconduct. These cases, although rare, can damage public trust in science34.
  5. Conflicting Interests: Sometimes, scientific findings can conflict with personal beliefs, economic interests, or political agendas. This can lead to skepticism or outright rejection of scientific evidence1.
It’s important to approach scientific claims critically but also to recognize the rigorous processes and peer review that underpin credible scientific research. If you have any specific concerns or examples in mind, feel free to share them!

Apparently Adventists are the largest Post-Trib pre-mill Rapture group

Why then does this view not come up in the popular "pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib" reviews done on the internet?
At 22.5 million we are bigger than even the Southern Baptist Convention - so why is this view not in the list?

Mainly I suspect - because Adventists are often found debating against either the pre-trib or mid-trib rapture views claiming that we don't believe in the secret rapture. -- So then that discussion proceeds as IF we are not in fact the largest promoter of post-trib pre-mill Rapture doctrine.

What can Christians do to combat catcalling/sexual harassment?

I don't hate Christians. Far from it. Im no bigot. There's no
" All Christians are..,:

Among those who call themselves christian I find those who call me a hater. A fool. An agent of Satan.
Thetes assaults on my character. Im.a "blasphemer". The list is long.

The "what's to be done?" of op seems to be about what OTHER people should do.

That could use rethinking.
That seems very difficult, and I'm truly sorry, I could have phrased it different. Could you, and all of you find it in your heart to forgive me?

How did the Sabbath explain why Jesus' body had to be taken down?

Ex 20:

10a The seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.
De 21:

22 If a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is executed, and you hang his body on a tree, 23a you must not leave the body on the tree overnight, but you must be sure to bury him that day.
Jn 19:

31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
These Jews wanted to make sure that the three people on the crosses were dead and buried before the Sabbath. If they died on the Sabbath, they would have to be buried on the Sabbath day, according to Deuteronomy.

Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 151a permits certain preparatory burial activities on Sabbath. Jerusalem Talmud, Berakhot 3:1 mentions postponing burial until after the Sabbath.

How did the Sabbath explain why Jesus' body had to be taken down?

It didn't. It was an excuse for the Jews to make sure that they died before the Sabbath.

32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
De 21:23 explained why Jesus' body had to be taken down before sunset. Ex 20:10 Sabbath law explained why Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus were in a hurry to bury Jesus's body and the women had to anoint the body of Jesus after the Sabbath.

What is the point of life for people who die too young?

I believe children who die before the age of accountability go to heaven.

Matthew 19:14
"Jesus said, “Leave the little children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to me, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”"

Jimmy Lai: A Victim of the Dangerous Silence of Vatican-China Relations

The ordeal of Hong Kong businessman and Catholic convert Jimmy Lai continues as he awaits trial on trumped-up charges of violating China's national security. As faithful lay Catholics, we urge the Holy See to break its silence on this matter by demanding Mr. Lai’s immediate release.

Mr. Lai’s international legal team has submitted an urgent appeal to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture. It claims that the 76-year-old publisher has been in solitary confinement, often in his cell for 23 hours and 10 minutes a day, since late 2020; that he is diabetic, but has been denied access to independent medical care; and that the facility where he has been held is infamous for subjecting prisoners in solitary confinement to intolerable round-the-clock lighting and extreme temperatures. Mr. Lai is a convert to Catholicism; although he has been permitted occasional visits from priests, prison officials have banned them from bringing him Holy Communion.

Not even the most infamous criminals are subjected to this level of mistreatment in the United States. Why has the Holy See not condemned such cruelty?

French Outrage at Tipping Point After Student’s Rape and Murder

For her fellow students, what happened to Philippine has been a wake-up call for those who still thought that insecurity was a distant issue

The news of the rape and murder of 19-year-old Philippine on the outskirts of Paris, involving a Moroccan illegal immigrant who had already been convicted by the courts and was facing deportation, exacerbates the anger of French citizens who see the repeated and culpable failings of the justice system leading to bloody, yet avoidable, tragedies.

The chain of events that led to the death of Philippine, a 19-year-old Catholic student, highlights a dramatic chain of responsibility that has already been observed in similar cases.

The Fdesouche website recalls the main stages in the life of Taha O., the 22-year-old Moroccan arrested in Switzerland on suspicion of Philippine’s murder.

In 2019, having entered France legally while still a minor, he raped a 23-year-old woman. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment but did not serve the full sentence and was released after five years. In June 2024, an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) was issued against him, and he was taken to a detention centre awaiting deportation. He had to wait for the agreement of his country of origin, Morocco, and for a consular pass to be issued. On September 3rd, a judge decided to release him. A few days later, Morocco gave the go-ahead for the deportation, but it was too late. He had disappeared, flouting his obligations: clocking in and out and of house arrest in a hotel. On September 19th, the day before Philippine’s murder, he was on the national file of wanted people.
