Peace in Christ.
Thank you for reading the entire post (and not just read the first paragraph and assume the rest of it).
Pro 18:13 KJV
(13) He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
How can we say that there is no resurrection of the dead? We can’t. There is a resurrection of the dead.
We are all “dead” in our mortal bodies because of sin even as we live. But what I am talking about here now is about those believers in Christ who have mortally died.
The mortally dead in Christ did not hear the TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL because they had listened to false prophets who did not understand the gospel (good news).
They were led astray by false prophets down the broad way to their destruction….to their mortal destruction. Matthew 7:13-15 .
There is a “truth of the gospel” that we must hear. They DID NOT hear it from their church “preachers” who had no understanding of it because their minds were blinded to the glorious gospel of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 .
They suffered loss….the loss of their mortal bodies. They did not inherit an age-lasting life (aka “eternal life”). They believed in Christ but mortally perished.
They (the mortally dead in Christ) will be resurrected AT the last day of this age. Jesus shall not lose them for He will raise them up again AT the last day. They have not completely perished for good.
John 6:39 KJV
(39) And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
Even though they may die, they shall live. Jesus is Lord of both the dead and the living as He died for us and rose again so that we might have life. …whether we had mortally died or not. They believed in Christ but mortally died. They fell "asleep".
Young's Literal Translation
John 11:25
Jesus said to her, 'I am the rising again, and the life; he who is believing in me, even if he may die, shall live;
They had “fallen asleep in Christ”. Their death from this earth is only temporary. It is an intermission….a “sleep”…for the remainder of this age…as they will be raised again AT the last day of this age. They will not experience the rest of this age in this earth where we are to help Him put down all rule and all authority and power in this earth.
1Co 15:16-18 KJV
(16) For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
(17) And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
(18) Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
The dead….those believers in Christ who have mortally perished…. are the “corruptible”…that is, perishable because they had PERISHED in their mortal bodies. They did not hear the truth of the gospel and perished. There are 2 groups being talked about here. One is the dead...those who perished...and the other are those who will never perish mortally from this earth.
The dead….at the very end of this age at the “last trump” moment…will be RAISED imperishable. They will no longer be able to perish like they were when they lived (but mortally perished) previously in this earth. What I have highlighted here in red applies only to those who had mortally perished from this earth.
1Co 15:51-53 KJV
(51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
(52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
The dead in Christ were sown mortally in corruption. They were sown in dishonor. They were sown in weakness. They mortally perished in these conditions…but they will be raised in glory and power and imperishable. They will never again experience these humiliating conditions....and die in them.
1Co 15:42-43 KJV
(42) So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
(43) It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
In contrast to the dead, the living… those who will hear the truth of the gospel and believe… shall NEVER MORTALLY DIE “to” the last day of this age. They will have an age-lasting life (aka “eternal life”) to the very end of this age where they will then put on immortality at the last trump moment.
John 11:26
and everyone who is living and believing in Me will not die—throughout the age;
This is the truth of the gospel: Jesus came to this world and died and rose so that we might be saved in this world. Those who will believe the truth of the gospel that is made manifest by our Lord Jesus shall NOT PERISH (mortally) but shall have an age-lasting life here in this world.
He has “abolished”…that is, rendering idle…death NOW for us. Death has been rendered idle NOW in our mortal bodies. He has brought to light through the gospel….the TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL…life. This “life” is age-lasting and to be had in our mortal bodies... where death is now being rendered idle.
2Ti 1:9-10 KJV
(9) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
(10) But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
We believe INTO Him. We shall continue to mortally stand here in this earth unto the coming of our Lord. We shall never die from this earth. The just shall LIVE by faith. They will not perish…mortally die.
Young’s Literal Translation
John 3:16
14 ‘And as Moses did lift up the serpent in the wilderness, so it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up,
15 that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during,
This is truly good news. He has rendered death idle for us NOW as He is living now. Jesus was raised from the dead. He tasted death for us so that we do not have to mortally die. He died in our place so that we may continue to live mortally throughout the remainder of this age (having an age-lasting life).
The only death that we participate in is dying to the sin. We keep His "daily" sacrifice in our mortal bodies which manifests His life there. We participate in His death this way so that we do not mortally die from this earth. Mortal death is NOW rendered idle through His sacrifice that we keep in our mortal bodies.
16 for God did so love the world, that His Son — the only begotten — He gave, that every one who is believing in him may not perish, but may have life age-during.
17 For God did not send His Son to the world that he may judge the world, but that the world may be saved through him;
We who believe in Christ and His truth of the gospel will continue to live in our “flesh and blood” bodies UNTIL the “last trump” moment at the very end of this age where it will then put on immortality.
This “mortal” body (mortal= subject to death ) will then at that time put on immortality so that our bodies shall never be subject to death anymore. I highlighted in red all the words that apply to those who inherit an age-lasting life in this mortal body. They will not perish mortally but will keep on living in this earth in their mortal bodies until the very end of this age (having an age-lasting life) where then they will put on immortality thereby circumventing death completely through Christ.
1Co 15:50-54 KJV
(50) Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
We shall all “sleep” as we shall NEVER DIE from this earth until we are changed from mortal to immortal.
(51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
At that time, both those who had perished mortally from this earth (the dead) and those who had kept living in their mortal bodies by never dying shall be changed.
(52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
There are 2 groups being talked about here. The dead…the mortally perished…shall be raised imperishable. The "corruptible" are not the same group of believers as the "mortal". The corruptible perished mortally. They did not inherit an age-lasting life. They were "asleep" in their mortal death from this earth so-to-speak. They experienced an intermission from this earth temporarily until their resurrection.
The living (who never mortally perished from this earth but continued to live in their flesh and blood mortal bodies) shall then put on immortality.
(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
The living are those who will remain ALIVE AND REMAINING upon this earth unto the coming of our Lord Jesus. They will never mortally perish from this earth.
We ….the living who heard the truth of the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…shall be ALIVE AND REMAINING…until He comes to change us all.
1Th 4:14-17 KJV
(14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
(15) For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
(16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
(17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
