  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

‘Catholic American Bible’ gets green light from U.S. bishops

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) approved a new translation of the Bible, which will be used for personal Bibles, the lectionary at Mass, and the text in the Liturgy of the Hours.

Bishop Steven Lopes, chair of the Committee on Divine Worship, announced the translation will be called the “Catholic American Bible.” The translation for personal Bibles and the Liturgy of the Hours will be available on Ash Wednesday in 2027.

The bishops have not announced when the revised lectionaries will be available.

The USCCB also approved a Spanish-language translation of the New Testament, the Biblia de la Iglesia en América, which will be available on Ash Wednesday in 2026.

Vatican declares alleged apparitions of Jesus in France ‘not supernatural’

The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) has declared that the alleged apparitions of Jesus in Dozulé, France, do not have an authentic divine origin and are therefore “not supernatural.”

The prefect of the dicastery, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, confirmed the declaration based on the Norms for Discerning Alleged Supernatural Phenomena in a document released Nov. 12 and addressed to the bishop of Bayeux-Lisieux, Jacques Habert.

In 1972, Madeleine Aumont claimed that Jesus had appeared to her, asking the Church to build a giant “glorious cross” in Dozulé, next to a “shrine of reconciliation.” Furthermore, the alleged visionary claimed that Jesus had announced his “imminent” return.

In the document, the Vatican authority notes that the alleged apparitions in the Normandy town “have elicited spiritual interest” but also “not a few controversies and difficulties of a doctrinal and pastoral nature” that require clarification.

Syrian President Shaara conditions security deal on Israeli withdrawal from Golan Heights, claims Trump supports him

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa laid out his positions on a number of topics, including the talks about a security arrangement with Israel, in an interview with The Washington Post following his historic visit to the White House on Monday.

Before the first-ever visit by a Syrian president, reports indicated that a new security arrangement might be announced. However, the discussions appear to be ongoing despite no official statement being made.

The interviewer asked al-Sharaa how he planned to “protect Syrian sovereignty,” given the “repeated attacks by the Israeli military” against his country.

After the collapse of the Assad regime, Israel destroyed most of Syria’s heavy military equipment and, several months later, targeted sites and forces affiliated with al-Sharaa’s new regime after they took part in attacks on the Druze community in southern Syria.

Suicide bomber kills 12, injures dozens of civilians in Pakistani capital as tensions escalate

Tensions have escalated in Pakistan after a suicide bomber killed 12 people and injured dozens by blowing himself up in the capital, making it the first strike against civilians in the area in more than a decade.

The attack outside a lower court in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon, which wounded at least 27 people on top of the dozen murdered, came when the area is typically crowded with visitors, the Associated Press notes.

There are conflicting reports on whether Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter terrorist group that broke away from the Pakistani Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack, as reporters claim to have gotten messages from the group's leader claiming responsibility. However, a commander within the group stated in WhatsApp messages that the group wasn't responsible.

Rhode Island students launch TPUSA chapter after teacher mocked Charlie Kirk's death

Especially young men are realizing how wrong is the hate speech and the tactics by radical groups opposing conservatism and Christian/Judeo values.

Florida Man says "poor decisions" led to “rightful” arrest, termination after he threw tea on a Pride flag and then tore it down

I'm glad he owned up to his mistake. The Media seems to make people crazy. Why can't people on both sides mind their own business. I don't understand the craziness of flags.

ERLC giving ultrasound equipment to pro-life pregnancy care centers in pro-choice states

The Southern Baptist Convention Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission has launched a campaign to give ultrasound equipment to pregnancy care centers in pro-choice states.

Known as “Across State Lines,” the endeavor was officially launched last week, being an extension of the ERLC’s Psalm 139 Project, with a greater emphasis on providing the equipment in states where abortion is legal in most or virtually all circumstances.

ERLC interim President Gary Hollingsworth told The Christian Post that since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, “we saw how the Lord was working and stirring a cooperative spirit within Southern Baptist life to support pregnancy centers in abortion-permissible states.”

Fr. Josiah On Pornography, and Nick Fuentes

First, I still have a lot of respect for Shapiro,...
I do too. And when he was doing the college speaking years ago, I think he was excellent for conservatism. The perfect guy for that time.
...but I think he mislead me a bit, and this in two ways.
I wouldn't be surprised. There are things to dislike about him. He can be...um...what's the word...can't say "shifty", can't say "crafty"... okay - disingenuous. The Dice video below is cued. Shapiro asks for money to help "children", never telling the listeners that 100% of donations go to help Jewish kids and families exclusively. I've double-checked what Dice says, and it's true. And Shapiro may or may not be directly involved with one or both charities. It's murky.

Imagine if I had a show and used it to get money that I gave to white kids only, or to Christian kids only, but you know, didn't think to mention that.

First, much of what is being said about Tucker strikes me as true, but after watching the whole interview I can see that Tucker was disagreeing with Fuentes, albeit very gently. This means that charges of "ideological laundering" pure and simple are not quite accurate.
It's possible Tucker didn't want to disagree with him sharply for the reason I gave a couple of posts above. Nick is good, and perhaps Tucker didn't want to be getting shown up on his large platform? But that's just speculation.
Second, Fuentes is not as bad as I thought he was after I watched Shapiro's initial video. Resentment and anger seem to drive much of what he does, but he is at the same time intelligent, thoughtful, argument-based, and capable of self-reflection. For example, this is a surprising video.
That sort of forceful, emotional speech he makes near the beginning - I'd never heard that before. And it sounds like he's acting. In real life he's almost always smiling and happy and lighthearted even when discussing what he's been put through.
At the same time, I think Fuentes' rhetoric is problematic, I think there is an affective problem (particularly with anger and resentment, albeit for legitimate injustices), and I think there are logical problems, including theologically,
Theologically. I've heard him say a few quirky things about his catholicism which I think are flat out wrong. But that's between you and him. ;)
I don't have time for the whole video. I found a little about Nick in the part where they're talking about Tucker. Is there anything else?

Obama referred to DOJ for criminal charges

Say what they want. But their opinions have no more weight than those of an illegal immigrant.
I'm almost encouraged that you didn't denigrate the unauthorized immigrant to a lower level.
We are American citizens.
Cool, so am I. It's not that hard to accomplish. All you need is to be born in the US or have a US born parent bring you back home after birth abroad. I manged one of those on my first breath.
My family has been here since 1620.
And so has mine... no wait it hasn't. We're much more recent arrivals. Does that matter? VP Vance thinks it does.
I have people in the Revolution, the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, VN, and the Gulf War. We have blood in this matter.
Yes, but did they fight for the right side (the US side) during the Slaveholder's rebellion? (I'll give you one guess in my case.)
My family has 250 years of blood, sweat, and tears. We cut down the trees, plowed the land, and picked up weapons when called up. We have been paying taxes since the nation was started.
Anyone that owns property here or comes on a temporary visa pays taxes. Do their views count now?
Foreigners can say anything they want. But their words really do not weigh beyond a logical position. Fine. They do not have any say in where that money goes. They have no say in who our leaders are. They have no say in our laws, our constitution, or the fate of our children. I assume they have problems in their own countries that need attending to.
One of the values of the outsiders perpective is that they *don't* have a say. They don't have to worry about if their taxes will go up or a policy will cost their jobs. They can evaluate without being influenced by how a choice will impact them directly.
They have a say there. Not here.
I do not ignore their opinions... I just wonder why they care what happens in my country?
If you don't understand the role the US plays in global everything, I can't help you. You should have learned that already.

Is stubbornness a Christian moral virtue?

If you are wrong in some way and this is the reason you are being criticized . . .
I’m always willing to consider that.

Though stubborn nitpicky criticism of where I choose to park the car, I don’t think that is covered. :p

Woman calling churches

MOD HAT ON

This thread is permanently closed.

Flaming, goading, and attacking your fellow Christians is not how to address this subject. As all the arguments presented here have led to that, all of them are wrong.

Flaming churches for using discernment over the phone is not really a good way to discuss this, and led to flaming those who disagreed with your flaming of a church. Churches need to know where a person is and what spiritual condition they are in in order to best help the person. They cannot give out cash in America because someone could lie to them and use the cash to buy illegal drugs. For these reasons, churches will help you if you show up in person, not over the phone. They need to get to know you before they can help, but they do help. Many churches in my area stock gift cards to give out to people in need and have benevolence funds to help Christians in their congregation who are struggling. Considering these facts may help you build a more rule-following discussion around these issues in the future that is more fair to churches and your fellow Christians here at CF.

In certain areas churches may be strapped for resources, but they should refer people to community resources that can help them instead of just refusing to help. Churches who do these referrals should not be shamed or blamed, as that leads to the more extreme flaming that we saw here.

Ohio city to allow live Nativity scene at farmers market after initial rejection

A city in Ohio has reversed course and decided to allow a local resident to display a live Nativity scene at a winter farmers market on public property.

Susan Conley had asked to include the Christmas display at a farmers market scheduled to be held next month at the city of Pataskala’s Veterans Green Park.

Although officials had initially rejected the request to display a Nativity scene, Pataskala officials later reversed their decision following a complaint letter from attorneys with Jones Day and First Liberty Institute (FLI).

FLI Senior Counsel Nate Kellum said in a statement shared with The Christian Post on Tuesday that the city should never have refused to allow the live Nativity in the first place.

‘Someone Call a Priest’: Sacraments at Time of Crisis Are Not Administered as Often as They Used to Be

The Register contacted pastors across the country asking the question whether emergency personnel call them to life-threatening situations. For the most part, the answer is No.

When a multi-ton pile of clay covered a steam-shovel fireman in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in early December 1952, a 40-year-old Catholic priest had himself lowered upside down into a hole workers had dug to try to save the man.

“Only the tips of the priest’s heels were visible as his murmured prayers were heard above,” The Boston Globe reported the next day. Only a portion of the man’s leg was visible when the priest first got near him, and by the time workers freed the rest of Elpidio Baia, a 55-year-old father of three, the accident victim had died. But Father John Tierney’s efforts to bring him the last rites of the Church are an example of what used to be common — police and firefighters calling a priest to an accident so he can administer sacraments to the critically injured.

Priests still frequently offer confession, Eucharist and anointing of the sick at hospitals, of course, but not so much at the scenes of accidents. The words “priest called to the scene” and similar phrases appeared in many news stories in the United States during the last century until the late 1960s, when they started tapering off, according to searches of online databases conducted by the Register.

It’s not common anymore.

Our Long National Nightmare Is Over

Idk… I think it’s a YMMV kind of thing. The first time I sat on the lyrics to “Gangsta’s Paradise” it kind of broke my heart. And there are lots of good hype up songs that are rap.

I think since music depends on so many factors to illicit a response… Words, music, voice, pacing… It has more benchmarks to hit in order to hit people in a certain way. Like, I think Bob Dylan is a lyrical genius but his voice and accompaniments make me want to beat my head on a wall so I don’t find his music all that inspiring. Rap has a similar issue for me, but it’s because my tastes gravitate more to dance or modern pop, which in many ways is the opposite. The song that makes me feel heard, sometimes to the point of tears, is a dance pop song. It hits me perfectly, but anybody who’s not into that genre isn’t going to feel it like I do.
For sure rap can tell an emotional story, like a book or poem can. But compared to most other music genres its typically lacking in other emotion generating factors: melody, harmonic movement, vocal expression.

The Flood of Stunning New Evidence That J6 Was a Fedsurrection Can't Be Ignored

After the initial shock wore off, it became quite clear to many of us that something nefarious was behind the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the Capitol Complex. Things were too pat. Narratives were set and eagerly parroted by the media within hours. Buses filled with non-MAGA people were reported and verified by congressional reps. And there were "bombs" found at the Democratic National Committee and later at a club near the RNC. Impeachment talk was openly discussed.

Suddenly, questioning the obviously hinky 2020 election was a criminal act against democracy. Trump must go to jail, the left said. And then they went about trying to make that happen. A Hollywood producer soon was under contract to produce Congress's January 6, The Movie! where no exculpatory information was allowed.

The word "insurrection" became quickly affixed to all news stories, though no one knew what really happened. President Donald Trump's slow response in urging people to go home was seen as an admission of something nefarious. And his words spoken at the Ellipse were clipped, taken out of context, and all exculpatory words he spoke were mysteriously left out of the discussion.

And the fix is still in. On Sunday, two executives at the BBC resigned in disgrace after the popular British news program Panorama was caught making egregious edits in Trump's speech to make him sound like he was encouraging a run on the Capitol Building.

President Donald Trump has admitted that he did not need to tear down the East Wing of the White House in order to build his sprawling $300 million ballroom.

“I could’ve built the ballroom around it,” Trump told Fox News Monday. “I didn’t want to sacrifice a great ballroom for an okay ballroom by leaving it right smack in the middle.”
