On Jan. 28, Father Artur Bubnevych was consecrated and enthroned as the sixth bishop of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Phoenix. Originally from Ukraine, Bishop Artur has served in the United States since 2013 and brings pastoral experience and missionary energy to his new role. In this interview, he reflects on his vision for the Church, challenges ahead, and the beauty of Eastern Catholic witness in the modern world.

You’ve served in the Eparchy of Phoenix since your arrival in the United States in 2013. What insights have you gained about the eparchy through your service?

It’s a very big eparchy in territory covering 13 states all the way to Alaska and Hawaii — very diverse and multi-national. The faithful are not an East European Church at all. We are a missionary eparchy, with converts and returnees to the Faith.

Humans are natural born warriors

I’ve been thinking about this lately. I think humans are born to fight spiritually and it manifests physically. When we don’t have a common enemy we fight amongst ourselves.
The reason that you think that we are all fighters is that you have spent too much time on the Internet.
Could it be that it has been and are conditioned into us by those seeking control??
Mass hypnosis.. programming through media.. frequencies.. food.. think about it
Then add in tendencies from the fall getting worse here to the end
"Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?" (James 4:1)

You say, "from the fall". My opinion is that fallen humans have >

"the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience" > in Ephesians 2:2.

This is Satan's spirit of pride and of selfishness. This wrong spirit in humans has people deeply not satisfied; and so they can be desperate for some pleasure to make them feel nicer. And when you threaten or effectively mess with someone's pleasure which is a treasure . . . any person can become like a raving lunatic . . . when the person's **r-e-a-l** treasure is being messed-with.

But ones of this world can discover how it does not help them to enjoy their treasure pleasure if they are constantly struggling and fighting for it and about it. So, it is the tendency of people to have a pleasure which is easy to get and does not cost too much and there is no ongoing competition and struggling for it. And so, as siblings develop, they might tend to have separate favorite interests and pleasures and ways of personality so they are not constantly fighting and struggling and competing. This is part of why, in my opinion, children grow up with distinct personalities with different preferences of those personalities.

One sibling can use controlling. Another can discover how not controlling can bring the pleasure of peace and quiet while doing what does not require controlling. This way, they don't constantly compete, and thereby spoil the pleasures they enjoy.

And now we are seeing how ones treasure sexual pleasure and they have developed ways of getting it. However, ones are effectively interfering with what they treasure; and so now they are fighting for what they treasure. However, the real treasure and preference is for pleasure. And as I have offered with James 4:1 > the real preference is for pleasure, but ones can be competing for it.

And, about the fall > my opinion is we all were born wrong; so all of us without Jesus were getting our sexual and other pleasures the wrong way . . . not loving like we need to do while enjoying our pleasures.

God's love is so better than human love. Plus, in God's love we have self control to stay out of arguing and complaining and competing. We can stay peaceful, all the time; partly because in God's love we are perfectly satisfied in His way so we are not depending on treasure pleasures to make us feel good and fool us into supposing the pleasures are fulfilling us. But Jesus in us is our perfect fulfillment, with no need for help from what is created.

And so, we have no need to fight for a lot of things. Plus, in trusting and obeying God in His peace, we have His emotional satisfaction and safety and stability, plus His personal guiding with His creativity, while He guides us according to how He is coordinating people and things around us.

And so our attention needs to stay to submitting to how He personally rules us >

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

And our fighting is against things in us which would have us doing anything else. His peace has almighty immunity against any anti-love stuff that would mess with us.

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit?

I happened to find a message this morning that has me hungrier for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

I am listening to this now for the second time and I love what the pastor says about what happened in Scotland a century of so ago.

I know that I need to have a much greater HUNGER for the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in my life.

Nagasaki church replaces cathedral bell 80 years after it was destroyed in atomic blast

Catholics in Nagasaki, Japan, have replaced a bell in a cathedral bell tower there almost exactly 80 years to the day after it was destroyed by the atomic blast that leveled most of the city at the end of World War II.

An international effort to fund the construction and installation of the bell at Urakami Cathedral raised $125,000 in just over a year, with the funds coming from over 600 individual donors, according to Williams College Professor James Nolan.

Nagasaki was one of the two Japanese cities, along with Hiroshima, largely destroyed by the U.S. atomic bombings at the close of World War II. The city was bombed on Aug. 9, 1945, marking the second and last time an atomic bomb was used as an act of war.

Nolan told CNA last year that parishioners at Urakami Cathedral managed to dig up one of the original bells after the bombing and save it; the bell was installed in the cathedral’s right bell tower after it was rebuilt in 1959.

Meet the Catholic saints included in the National Garden of American Heroes

President Donald Trump’s National Garden of American Heroes could potentially come into fruition within the next several years with the recent passing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allots $40 million to create a park that Trump first proposed during his first term.

According to the executive order, this national garden would consist of over 200 individuals who embodied “the American spirit of daring and defiance, excellence and adventure, courage and confidence, loyalty and love.”

Among those on the list are five Catholic saints: St. Junípero Serra, St. John Neumann, St. Katharine Drexel, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, as well as three Catholics whose cause for canonization are ongoing: Venerable Fulton Sheen, Venerable Augustus Tolton, and Servant of God Dorothy Day.

Amid plunging births, scholar says parenthood needs to be touted as ‘pathway to happiness’

Catholic marriage and family expert Brad Wilcox is calling for efforts to make having a family in the U.S. “more attractive” in the wake of “troubling” data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showing that U.S. fertility rates are at an all-time low.

“It's troubling that we're actually hitting a record low here when it comes to fertility in America,” Wilcox, a sociologist who directs the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, said in an interview with EWTN News Nightly Anchor Mark Irons on July 25.

Swedenborgianism

Oh my: Swedenborgism, AKA Church of the New Jerusalem. That's something I haven't heard of in a long time The Handbook of Denominations in the United States skims over it. The Kingdom of the Cults briefly (by the book's standards), discusses it. Emmanuel Swedenborg, mystic who claimed to speak with the dead and to have argued with the spirits of Paul and Martin Luther. Swedenborg, who denied books of the bible that disagreed with him. Swedenborg, who denied not only the Trinity, but that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was substitutionary and also rejected a physical resurrection of both Christ and of those who believe on Him. Swedenborg seems to have been considered a medium by some, though skimming over the article in The Kingdom of the Cults this morning can't determine if he was considered such by contemporaries. Considering he had "revelations" of events purportedly given to him by spirits of the dead, that his contemporaries thought he was a medium is highly likely.

Amnesty International says Iranian missile attacks on Israeli civilians violated humanitarian law

An Amnesty International report published on Thursday concluded that the Iranian regime’s deliberate use of cluster bomb warheads against Israel last month violated humanitarian law.

“Cluster munitions are inherently indiscriminate weapons that must never be used,” stated Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s senior director for research, advocacy, policy and campaigns. “Iranian forces’ deliberate use of such inherently indiscriminate weapons is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law,” she emphasized. Some 100 countries worldwide have already banned the use of cluster bombs due to the danger they pose to the civilian population.

The Amnesty International report criticizing Iran is noteworthy because the human rights organization has a history of hostility towards the Jewish state.

US provided path to permanent residence for hundreds of sex offenders, gang members: report

A recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) report highlighted critical national security failures in its Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) program that allowed approximately 800 known or suspected gang members to enter the United States.

The report, titled “Criminality, Gangs, and Program Integrity Issues in Special Immigrant Juvenile Petitions,” examined more than 300,000 SIJ petitions submitted from fiscal year 2013 through February 2025, according to a USCIS press release on Thursday.

The report found that 198,414 SIJ petitions were approved between fiscal year 2020 and 2024, and that half of SIJ petitioners in 2024 were over the age of 18 when they entered the U.S. without inspection.

'Systematically slaughtered': Oklahoma student lost 34 family members in a Christian massacre; pregnant woman's stomach cut open

WASHINGTON — Barr Franc Utoo, a native of Nigeria's Benue state and a graduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma, awoke to several missed calls one morning last month.

Fulani terrorists murdered 34 members of his immediate family during the June 13-14 Yelewata Massacre, including his pregnant aunt, by slicing open her belly and removing her twin unborn children.

The extremists attacked the Christian community of Yelewata in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue, slaughtering more than 200 believers in what has been described as one of the deadliest assaults in the region's ongoing violence that has claimed the lives of countless Christians.

Put not thy trust in AI

That said, you can get even the best of these systems to provide inaccurate information if you cause the system to believe that’s what you want.

I could convince chatGPT to believe every character in the Bible is a villain by flooding it with "what-if" scenarios that explore the potentially negative consequences of their teachings and actions as recorded in the Bible.

All but one. I can't convince AI to portray Jesus as the villain despite the many logical scenarios telling that Jesus is serving a conspiracy. Cannot find any logical grounds to support it.

AI also won't deny Christ's existence. His wisdom opposed the thinking of that time it could no have been made up even as a fiction. And it's not just mere or random contradiction of cultural beliefs and ideas because the wisdom of Jesus rang true even in our times. With solid grounding in logic not even the wisest philosophers of the period could have made up.

There are exceptions and limits unless the AI deduces that you're just "chilling" not engaged in a serious discussion and just want AI to be your "beer buddy".

I suppose everything is possible. If you can't convince AI in deep and serious arguments, try shallow and insensitive discussions.

AI is not the problem. We are

If you use Google search, Amazon.com and many other places we go to via internet, you're using Ai. It can process something on the order of 28,000 times faster than the human brain at this point. However, I entered a question about an additive for paint, got instant reply. Reworded it asking the same question and got the opposite answer !

A guy named Billy Krohn ( spelling) has stated, the guy who spear headed the start of Ai has regretted ever starting it. It's now scaring scientist, as it learns to self develop. It's leaning it's way around safe guards. It's playing a large part ( from a Christian perspective) in setting up the beast system. Think about it.

Another win for Women's rights

All that means is that while 26% female students in collage are getting sexually assaulted, todays republican party worry more about 10 biological male winning swimming competition. Wrong priority !
Interesting that the Democrat Party hasnt solved the problem already since they are so worried about it?

We CAN stop men competing against women today. Right now, with a stroke of a pen. Now if we could only do the same with sex assault.

Since we cant stop sex assault with a stroke of a pen, we shouldn't do anything that we can stop?

When you figure out an easy way to stop sex assault by a stroke of the president's pen I et us know and I bet we can get it signed.

IF the New AI Tools are SO GREAT, Why Aren't They Being Used by the Big Social Media Platforms to do Fact-Checking???

Spell checkers, or word suggesters, are not really AI.

On this we agree, and this is yet another area where the new LLM systems like Grok and even Google’s DeepMind system really demonstrate their worth.

Microsoft’s CoPilot promises to do away with useless spell checkers by hooking a competent AI application directly into Office 365, which will be a huge leap forward, enough to justify the annual subsciption fees, since you can no longer simply license Office (which I find terribly annoying, however, in a few years time, consumer hardware will be fast enough to run an equally competent open source AI as part of LibreOffice or OpenOffice or other open source office suites, and the problem will solve itself; Apple will probably help as they presently lack a viable LLM-type AI system, and could really use one to enhance the user experience for Pages, KeyNote, Numbers, etc, which are a major selling point of the Mac vs. PC systems (and which for a lot of use cases are nicer and more pleasant than Office)

Judge Denies Release of Epstein Transcripts

The events occurred outside the boundaries of U.S. jurisdiction.
That doesn't matter. From here: Can the US Prosecute Crimes Committed Abroad?

'While U.S. law is presumed to apply only domestically, Congress has enacted specific statutes that extend their reach. This authority is based on several established principles of international law that create a connection between the U.S. and a crime committed abroad.

  • The “nationality principle,” which allows the U.S. to prosecute its own nationals for crimes committed anywhere in the world.
  • The “passive personality principle,” which grants jurisdiction when the victim of a crime is a U.S. national, regardless of the offender’s nationality.
The U.S. also prosecutes its citizens for engaging in illicit sexual conduct with minors in foreign countries.'

Notwithstanding that Epstein's island in in the United States Virgin Islands. It's a US territory.

Tesla Deliveries Down 13% Year Over Year, Misses Expectations

Now for Q2

Tesla stock dips as second-quarter earnings reduce investor confidence

Tesla shares tumbled Thursday after its latest earning results knocked the wind out of investors’ confidence in Elon Musk’s electric vehicle maker.

The company has been facing intense competition, cooling consumer interest and a reduction of the government incentives that made buying EVs more affordable.

Tesla announced Wednesday that its automotive sales totaled $16.6 billion in the second quarter, a 16% drop from last year. Total revenues declined 12% from last year to $22.5 billion.
Any Tesla owners who want to ditch their otherwise working car, I can do that for a dollar. You pay me or I pay you, I don’t care. I am not offering to pick up your monthly payments though.

If you have Tesla stock, same offer, a dollar a share, you pay me or I pay you. But I have a limit of a few hundred shares so act fast.
