  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump dispenses with trials, orders military strike on alleged Venezuelan drug-trafficking boat (Now up to 2, 3, 4...)

People are not realizing the fundamental change that has occurred with this president, this Congress, and this Supreme Court.

Trump can literally do whatever he wants to do...because nobody is going to stop him.
Which is, of course EXACTLY what the left was saying was going to happen.

I'll be curious to see how the number of voters may change.

DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY: West Point Association of Graduates Announces Recipient of 2024 Sylvanus Thayer Award: Barack Obama

That's not misspeaking. He did it at least 4 times on two different occasions. Obviously he thought that's how it's pronounced.

He was president. He has a legacy. He's fair game forever. I'll call him out for accepting this "good citizenship" award for doing nothing. I'll call him out for accepting the Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing. I'll call him out for being a pothead and eating dogs and...I could go on.
It’s nice to have a hobby.

False. Just days ago, the GOP was screaming that Constitutional rights are God- given and apply to everyone.
Did you actually believe the God given rights outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution applies to those who reject them and wish to live under a different system? Perhaps the US ought to invade Great Britain and strip its government of their power and instill a US Constitutional one. After all the Declaration of Independence gives us that right. Canada should really be first since its so close.

Did you really believe thats what they meant?

It was Shakil Afridi who found bin Laden, and who was promptly imprisoned in Pakistan. Despite Obama being urged to intercede on his behalf, he shamefully did not.
Well that’s certainly a version of what happened, I suppose.

Some were voting. Some were not.

Some were....

Marching in lock step with Dear Leader if we are to believe this is 100% legit.
So, the "Americans who don't want to live in a banana republic that seeks to emulate Central and Southern American government styles" are irrelevant.

Why are you talking about them?

This is why I refuse to argue with ai overview.
Yeah, the number of people here on the forums plugging things into Google's AI search and uncritically parroting the results is, frankly, depressing. Like, if you're going to be that lazy in a zero-stakes casual discussion that you have no obligation whatsoever to participate in, what's even the point?

The fascinating reformed theology paradox of Hebrew 6:4-6

I disagree. Whatever Jesus did he did for us.
Not initially.
He appointed 12 disciples that they might be with him, go out and preach and have the power to cast out demons, Mark 3:14-15.
Jesus taught his disciples more than he taught the crowds. He explained parables and teaching to them that he didn't tell others, Mark 4:10-11, Mark 4:34, Luke 12:1. The sermon on the mount was spoken to the disciples, Matthew 5:1-2.

Jesus had many disciples - in John 6:66 a lot of them left him. But the 12 were his closest followers.
And he said we have to prove we are children of God by being good,
HE didn't have to prove he was the Son of God, God spoke at Jesus' baptism, transfiguration and on one other occasion to declare this. On the latter occasion Jesus said, "this voice was for your benefit, not mine", John 12:30.
To "be good" we have to be good consistently, in good times and bad times, when confronted with evil
Jesus wasn't good when confronted with demons. He didn't invite them to have fellowship with him; he drove them out.

If you mean that Jesus set us an example and practiced what he preached; agreed. But he didn't need to appoint a devil to be one of his closest disciples to prove that.
Jesus showed that he loved his enemies by going to the cross for us - we, who hated God and were far from him, were reconciled to God by Jesus.
Jesus forgave his enemies when they flogged him and he did not retaliate, when he could have called down 12 legions of angels to help him, but did not and when prayed, "Father, forgive them ...".
Jesus showed that God cared for the unclean, the unlovely, the sick and disabled etc etc when he ate and drank with them, and healed them. He showed that God cared for the lowly when he chose fishermen and a tax collector to be his disciples and not the religious elite who knew Scripture backwards.

Who am I to listen to--to Jesus or to you? Jesus said we must be confronted with evil
Jesus taught his disciples to pray "deliver us from evil", or "keep us safe from the evil one."
He didn't say we had to make a point of searching out evil.
We are to be the "light of the world," always showing God's virtues in good times and in bad times.
Jesus told his 12 disciples - including Judas - they were to be light and salt for the world.
Jesus is the light of the world. God is light, in him there is no darkness at all, 1 John 1:5. In the NT there are only two states; light and darkness. If you belong to one, you cannot belong to the other. People are either for Jesus, or against him.

How could Jesus have appointed a devil, told him to drive out other demons and said that he was to be light to the world?
The devil hates Jesus, is opposed to Jesus and cannot ever be in fellowship with Jesus. There is no way the devil would have ever gone out to preach the Kingdom of God and drive out evil spirits.
Why would Jesus have let an evil person - devil - into his band of closest followers, just to be able to say, "this is how you confront evil; by welcoming it"? He had enough opposition from the Pharisees, from demons, from his family, from Herod and from people who tried to stone him to death. He didn't need it from his closest friends as well. Yes they didn't always understand and trust him but they stayed with him and were, mostly, loyal.

What is your theory, belief around Foreknowledge?

Adam and Eve sinned with the free will nature they had and only one way to sin, so why would we not also sin with a free will nature and a ton of ways to sin (given through the knowledge of good and evil)? Why do we have to "fall" to being less of a human than Adam and Eve?
Adam did not have a fallen nature when he fell. We are fallen now because he chose to rebel against God then.

MS-13 Gang Member Kilmar Abrego Garcia to be Deported to African Country of Eswatini

She is in the demographic of toxic liberal women who's poor choices left her divorced multiple times, incapable of self-awareness and ownership for her actions, a deep rooted bitterness for men, and uses every opportunity seek attention by playing the victim. But she is my mother and I love her.
Wow. How you write about people you don’t love must be a real hoot. Gives me a lot of insight on your thought process and beliefs, though.

'You' made the assertion that "In May 2020, a Venezuelan navy patrol boat tried to ram a U.S. Coast Guard vessel involved in a drug interdiction operation."

Where is your evidence?
It was actually in March and it rammed a german cruise ship (and then sank).

This is why I refuse to argue with ai overview.

The cartels have been labeled a terrorist org.
Are we going back to having “outlaws”?
In the olden days an “outlaw” was someone designated as being “outside of the law”, therefore anything that the ”law” did to them was fine…this requires that the Constitutional principles of presumed innocence and equal protection in the law be dispensed with and that extra-judicial killings is just a-okay.

The Conjunction of Opposites

Your exaggerated adoration of God’s sheer omnipotence can yield conclusions as foolish as Calvin’s assertion, in Book III of the Institutes, that God predestined the fall of man so as to show forth his greatness in both the salvation and the damnation of those he has eternally preordained to their several fates.

Were this so, God would be the author of and so entirely beyond both good and evil, or at once both and neither, or indeed merely evil (which power without justice always is).

The curious absurdity of all such doctrines is that, out of a pious anxiety to defend God’s transcendence against any scintilla of genuine creaturely freedom, they threaten effectively to collapse that transcendence into absolute identity — with the world, with us, with the devil.

For, unless the world is truly set apart from God and possesses a dependent but real liberty of its own analogous to the freedom of God, everything is merely a fragment of divine volition, and God is simply the totality of all that is and all that happens; there is no creation, but only an oddly pantheistic expression of God’s unadulterated power.

One wonders, indeed, if a kind of reverse Prometheanism does not lurk somewhere within such a theology, a refusal on the part of the theologian to be a creature, a desire rather to be dissolved into the infinite fiery flood of God’s solitary and arbitrary act of will.

In any event, such a God, being nothing but will willing itself, would be no more than an infinite tautology — the sovereignty of glory displaying itself in the glory of sovereignty — and so an infinite banality.

Constitutional rights apply to everyone.
Then I suppose the 2nd Ammendment applies to everyone in the EU. We should see guns flooding into the EU now. England then has the wrong form of government because it doesn't follow the US Constitutional Form.

Canada has some explaining to do regarding the rights of their citizens because their citizens most certainly do not have the same rights as ours.

“You don’t arrest 58-year-old grandmothers,” her husband said. But she passed a bad $25 check ten years ago, so adios! er... Slán leat!

Local grandmother held by ICE over $25 bad check from 10 years ago

Jim, a veteran, and Donna, a full-time health care worker, married about eight years ago. A simple life of faith, family and friends. Jim says she’s the first to help others in times of trouble.

Donna, an Irish citizen, came to the U.S. when she was just 11 years old. She is a legal resident alien, or green card carrier, but not a U.S. citizen.

All was well, Jim says, until July. While in Ireland for a family funeral, on the way back at customs in Chicago, Donna was arrested.

“You don’t arrest 58-year-old grandmothers. It’s just wrong. She hasn’t committed crimes. You just don’t do that,” he said.

[To be fair, she did commit a crime.]

Ten years ago, Donna wrote a bad check, charging documents say, for $25. She was a single mom.

She paid it back and got probation. But Jim says the U.S. government is suddenly arguing that was a crime of moral turpitude.

[She was moved from Missouri to a county jail in Kentucky, where she's cooled her heels the past 30 days.]
