Led by the Spirit versus led by the Word. (the Bible)

Obviously, we want both.
But I made a statement in another topic that being led by the Spirit is superior to being led by the Word.

Let's discuss. (play nice kids) Thanks.

So, I wanted to flesh that out a bit. Here's the quote below. Post #60.
Source: What is a successful (good) creation for God?

Don't get me wrong. A biblical-based decision is oftentimes the best for us. Especially as it concerns us personally.
But being led by the Spirit is superior. Something many know little about. Myself included.
Here's the background info that "led" to this statement which preceded this quote.
Since it was a bit off-topic, I wanted to create its own topic.

Begin quote:
"The difference between being led by the Spirit and being led by the Word. (Bible)
This is dangerous territory, and I'm likely to ruffle some feathers. WWJD?

I have wanted to address the issue of Christians feeling "led" to do something with a scriptural defense.
Actually considered this originally while reading the Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis. (the toast)

The 'thing" they are being led to do seems innocent to them and they can easily defend it, both rationally and biblically.
So... what could go wrong? (plenty)

The problem is that we never know enough of the behind-the-scenes activity to make either a correct rational, or biblical-based, decision.
And we don't need to know. God knows.

Both the serpent in the garden and the Devil tempting Jesus in the wilderness used the Word to deceive.
But the enemy is unable to use the Spirit in that way. Best he can do is counterfeit it.
A fully developed spiritual discernment is the only antidote. IMHO"
- End quote
(add the quoted bit above to cap the statement)

A couple of scriptures to consider. (the Word) I know, I know...
Notice that being led by the Spirit (not the Word) produces the fruit of the Spirit.
Why does it come from the Spirit and not the Word?

Romans 8:14 NIV
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Galatians 5:16-18, 22-23 NIV
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.
They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. ... [19-21]
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

1 Corinthians 2:13 NIV
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words
taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

Matthew 4:1 NIV
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Acts 8:29, 39-40 NIV
29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” ...
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,
and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about,
preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

Dying to "self"

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

Any other topic or argument seems a waste of time compared to this statement of The Lord. It requires us to be transformed. It demands that we look at each moment of our lives and evaluate our responses. It is so easy to argue. it is so easy to read, to study, even to pray. But to do things we do not want to do for the sake of love, to change our behaviors and attitudes for the sake of following Christ is something very different.

Of course the place we start is with out families. They seem to have the prime position to make demands of us and to push our buttons. What a gift family life can be. I know I might put a good show on for the world but there is no fooling my spouse.

Dying to self, transcendence of the ego, our small share in the pascal mystery.

Flood Geology and conglomerate rock

There is a theory that the layers of geology were created during the flood in a very short period of time. When they built the expressway they cut through all the layers. Most of what we have here is 12 feed of muck left from when this area was covered with Glaciers. If you look along the river you will find layers of conglomerate rick under all the muck. This is rock that is round that has been shaped by the water in a river bed. I like to stack river rock because it is very easy to balance. I believe in a literal Bible, but I am sure it takes longer than 24 hours for a river to create round rocks like this.

The history of how Sunday worship came about.

Since the scriptures are clear that no other day was made as the day of worship except the seventh day, and the Commandments show this with unblinking clarity to Christians, what does history show. If Christians look through all these things and become fully aware that Sunday worship is not ordained by God or anywhere in the Bible or given by Christ or the apostles, and with full knowledge continue to transgress what is shown to them from scripture, will God wink at it, lets look at scripture......

Acts 17:30
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

It shows that God allows for mankind's ignorance, but we have many scholars who have studied this issue and so Christians have become aware of the history of Sunday worship. How Sunday was the established day of pagan festival, which later, when these pagans professed Christianity, they gradually brought into the early churchm the practice of the pagan festivals with them into the church, and the bishops looked the other way as long as they had 'converts' to show they were more influential or had more numbers than other bishops.

Now from scripture we see the people of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, including Jesus Christ Himself, observed the Sabbath. We see Jesus Christ is “Lord even of the Sabbath day” as the Creator. Jesus said, “For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.” Matthew 12:8. By identifying Himself as “Lord even of the Sabbath day,” Jesus of was showing that He was the One who originally created Earth in six days, and rested on the seventh day. And the New Testament makes clear that Jesus is the Creator...

"All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that has been made." John 1:3

"He [Jesus] was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not". John 1:10

"God, who created all things by Jesus Christ." Eph. 3:9

"For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." Col. 1:16

So scripture makes clear Jesus Christ is our Creator and also gave us the Sabbath for man not just the Jews.

"And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" Mark 2:27

Not only did Jesus create the Sabbath but He makes clear it was the seventh day and Holy...
"For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exodus 20:11

"And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning." Exodus 16:23

Now you can check the scriptures and it will make clear the Sabbath is on Saturday, while Sunday is "the first day of the week". No where in the Bible, including after Christ's resurrection, will you find people observing the first day of the week, Sunday, as a replacement for the Sabbath.

So if Christians, knowing that Sunday is not the Sabbath, and knowing the Commandments show what is transgression or iniquity/sin, and clearly show what day is the Sabbath, continue to transgress what God commands, what will happen when Christ comes.

Knowing God is real...

Some thoughts on where faith and confidence comes from.

Walking by faith and not sight does not come naturally.

Knowing God is real must be a corner stone to all faith and knowledge.

Ponder on this verse...

"Be still and know that I am God....

Have doubts?

Come aside into the quiet - consider the ants - they are tiny and He knows each one...

Each one beautifully made and expressing His creative genius.

Consider the trees all lifting arms to the sun, the flowers presenting His beauty and food for the bees.

He made all this and it is good.

Come aside to the quiet - consider the beauty around you - evidence of Him.

Be still and KNOW that He is God.

Spouse's Business

My wife has a business apart from her full time job. In January the business has a two week period when it is profitable, and my wife sets up a market stall with her mother and sells clothes. I worked on markets as a child, but I stopped as I found dealing with people in retail was difficult because I suffer from acute depression and anxiety. This two week period used to take place during our winter vacation in Australia and would absorb most of our vacation period. I offered to help for a couples of days about eight years ago, but still felt the same way and did not want to repeat. My wife however, started expecting me to be involved every time, whereupon the whole vacation became something I dreaded.

We migrated to Australia eighteen months ago, and I have a full-time job here. I help my wife prepare stock for sale, which takes some time, but it is all I feel comfortable doing due to minimal people interaction. I have my own full-time job and teach online in evenings. Still, I offered to help her both Sundays of the sale period, the last of which is tomorrow. A few days ago, I was diagnosed as having a para-umbilical hernia that was very fatty, and the doctor advised me not to do anything that involved lifting or awkward body movements. I described what I did for my wife on the markets, and he said to avoid anything like that. I had to take a day off work on Friday, which my wife supported, but when she came home, she asked me to work an additional market day. I politely refused, and now she will not talk to me at all.

Now I know this is important to my wife and have tried to talk to her about it, but the situation has repeated itself for many years and I do not wish to be a part of her business when it comes to doing retail sales. I can help her in other ways for certain, but I cannot work in any line of work which involves sales or potential confrontation. The issue is that she is demanding something from me that I do not feel able to do because it makes me so anxious. The situation with the hernia is just making it worse. I do not know how to respond to her in a biblical way. I am not even sure what scripture says about this. Again,

Is There Faith In Calvinist System?

Is there faith in the Calvinist system? A Calvinist poster stated they tell a sinner that Jesus came to save his people from their sins. I'd say that right there demonstrates they're not giving the sinner by what they say as an ambassador any real FAITH.

They're giving them HOPE but not FAITH. Jesus Christ came and saved his people from their sins. How many people? How do they know who hear this they're one of the especially blessed? They can't. All they can have is HOPE. Now hope is a wonderful biblical thing we have the hope of the return of Jesus Christ but FAITH and HOPE when it comes to salvation is different.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1

FAITH is substantial. Hope is not. Hope is a good thing but it is not faith. And to prove that 1 Cor 13: 13 states,

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13

Not these two but these THREE!

In order for anyone's message to have FAITH it must come across that it's substantial for all.

I'll explain it this way. A wealthy man announces to a crowd of 100 I'm able to give $1000 dollars to everyone here. How many can have (substantial) FAITH they're going to get it. NONE. Faith doesn't rest on just knowing one's ability. The will needs to be expressed what the one is willing to do. He now states, "I'm able to give 70 of you $1000 dollars." How many can have (substantial) FAITH for it? None of them. They can hope they're going to be one of lucky ones but they can't have substantial FAITH. NOW he states, "I'm able to give 100 of you $1000 dollars and I am going to do it" How many now can have substantial FAITH? ALL OF THEM! They're now in the realm of FAITH! The only thing that needs to be addressed is the wealthy man a good character and does he keep his word? Well we KNOW God does!

So there you have it....FAITH

Now a shocking things I'm going to say to Calvinists here. There really is no FAITH in the Calvinist paradigm, that is not in any real true sense of the word. Those who hear Calvinists say God came to save his people from their sins is like saying I'm able to give 70 of you 100, $1000 dollars. They can hope they'll be one of the lucky ones but FAITH? NO. Just hope and not faith.

Now Romans 10 calls the gospel the Word of Faith! Get this and don't let go of it. That therefore means salvation must be for ALL in the same way it's only a message of FAITH is the one says I'm able to give 100 of you $1000 dollars AND...AND I'm going to do it. If they know your word is good and honorable they now have FAITH.

When God said he so loved the world he did not say just the especially blessed. But ALL! And because he said that ALL can have FAITH. I'd say woe to the one who seeks to strip it away from others.

A re-introduction

Good morning all!

I'm an OG CF'er. I was an admin/chaplin way back in the day (almost 20 years ago) but have been away from the forum for quite some time. You still see my name pop up in a few things (like some of the stickies here). Life took me away for quite some time... then I lost my log-in info for a while...

I'm now based in northeastern Thailand where I am a missionary bishop. I'm serving as pastor of a new church plant "Church of the Resurrection" as well as being the head of a small international school here. Life is quite busy, so don't know how much I'll be around but thought it would be nice to reconnect with some of my old friends if they're still on here.

Blessings!

Biden is the one evading taxes

So, it looks like, even though DT has some things on his tax forms that none of us peasants can do because we don't have high priced accountants....

He has not been charged with any tax fraud or wrong doing.

However, Joe Biden has not claimed the $ 50,000 odd dollars a month that Hunter claimed that he was paying his dad to stay at the house where the classified documents were.

So, who is lying? Did Hunter pay that phenomenal amount? Did they have a money laundering scheme going on?

Either way... that is tax evasion.

Do not try earn your own salvation through the law

There are people who tried to use the law to earn their salvation. But God showed me this. Do you know the Litmus Test is used to identify acid (acidity) and base (alkalinity)? If the Litmus paper turn red, it is an acid. If it turn blue it is a base. The law is the same as the Litmus test. Everyone is born a sinner but they do not know it. So God put the 10 commandments as a Litmus test to show us that we are all sinners. If you break any of the 10 commandments even once in your life, then you know you are a sinner. The law is not meant to save but just as a means to identify sinners. By obeying the 10 commandments and sin lesser does NOT turn you from a sinner into a righteous saint. Just like the Litmus test, an acid is identify when it turn red. Regardless how red (very red or pinky light red) it turn the litmus paper, it is still an acid.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

Christian who left gay lifestyle and came to faith arrested for "Conversion therapy" for testifying about his conversion.

A Christian charity worker in Malta could face jail time after he claimed that his faith enabled him to turn away from a homosexual lifestyle he no longer wanted.

Matthew Grech, 33, faces potential fines and imprisonment for allegedly falling afoul of his country's ban on "conversion practices" when he explained to a local media outlet last year how he left homosexuality behind because he came to believe it was wrong.

"I was invited by this new emerging platform in Malta called PMnews to share my story and to discuss sexuality in general," Grech told Fox News Digital, noting that he was "surprised" when police later called him early on a Sunday morning and ultimately served him with a prosecution order summoning him to court on Feb. 3.

Legal counsel for Grech maintains that his case is the first of its kind and threatens to set in motion a legal "domino effect" that could endanger freedom of speech and religious liberty throughout the Western world.

THOUSANDS OF CHURCHES RAISE ALARM ABOUT SCOPE OF NEW CANADIAN ‘CONVERSION THERAPY’ BAN

Morals and actions

Every two years Americans are asked to vote and voting is one way to exercise one's moral compass in a public act of decision making, so, how do see this matter relating to your faith?

From a Catholic perspective, voting should be guided by a commitment to upholding the Church's teachings on social justice and the protection of human life and dignity. In the Catholic tradition, the sanctity of human life, the importance of the family, the rights of workers and the poor, and the protection of religious freedom are all considered to be central moral concerns.

When evaluating political candidates and issues, Catholics are encouraged to consider how a candidate's positions align with these values, and to vote for those who will best promote the common good.

It's important to keep in mind that the Catholic Church does not endorse any political party or candidate, rather encourages Catholics to vote according to their conscience, forming it with the help of the teachings of the Church and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Are we subject to the Old Covenant today?

In a conversation with DAQ in another thread, the question moved from whether we were still required to keep the kosher laws of the Old Covenant to whether we were still required to keep any of the laws of the Old Covenant. Below is a summation of my understanding of the modern Christian's responsibility to the Old Covenant based on Scripture, New and Old.

What is the purpose of the Law today?
1 Cor 10:11 - "Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come."
The Old Covenant stories are an example to us and as instruction to us; they are history from which we learn.

Rom 15:4 - "For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."
Again, the Old Covenant Scriptures are for our encouragement and instruction.

2 Tim 3:14-17 - "You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work."
The "sacred writings" and "all Scripture" here are the Old Covenant (the New Covenant having not yet been compiled as we have it today). The Old Covenant Scriptures are valuable "for teaching, for rebuking, for correction, and for training in righteousness". However, are they still binding on us today? Are we still bound to obey the Law of Moses? Is our salvation tied to keeping the Law? Or are we freed from the Law?

What then is the purpose of the Mosaic Law and the Old Covenant?
In Galatians 2, Paul tells of his confrontation with Peter. Before some of the Jews came to where Peter was, Peter was living and eating with Gentiles (presumably eating what the Gentiles ate), but when the Jews came Peter withdrew hypocritically from the Gentiles, and caused many of the Christian Jews with him to sin also (Gal 2:11-14).
Gal 2:15-21 - "“We are Jews by nature and not sinners from the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless, knowing that a person is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law; since by works of the Law no flesh will be justified. 17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Far from it! 18 For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a wrongdoer. 19 For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and ]the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”"
The Law of Moses does not have the capability of making a person righteous before God.

The purpose of the Law was to show us what sin was, and to demonstrate to us that we could not keep the Law of God perfectly no matter how hard we try.
Gal 3:21-29 - "Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? Far from it! For if a law had been given that was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. 22 But the Scripture has confined everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the Law, being confined for the faith that was destined to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our guardian to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. 26 For you are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise."

The Law was not given to make us righteous, nor was it able to give us life. It was given to be a guardian (some translations say schoolmaster), an educator that would teach us morality and bring us to Jesus when He came. But now that Jesus has come in the flesh, we are no longer under the guardian, but are now under Christ. And this makes us heirs to God's promise to Abraham.
Romans 3:19-20 restates this same point.
"Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin."

But we are told in Jeremiah 31:31-34 that someday a New Covenant would be made with Israel.
"“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord: “I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their wrongdoing, and their sin I will no longer remember.”"
This very passage was quoted by the writer of Hebrews in chapter 8. Right after the writer says that we have a High Priest greater than any High Priest of the past (the Old Covenant), who is not able to be a priest of the Old Covenant because He is not of the right House. But He is both our High Priest and King then and forever.
Heb 8:1-7 - "Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord set up, not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. 4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; 5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things by the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.” 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, to the extent that He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been free of fault, no circumstances would have been sought for a second."

The OT priests (Levites) served a copy of the Heavenly things, but Jesus is the thing which they copied. But there was fault in the first (Old) Covenant, and so a second was required; a better Covenant based on better promises.
Heb 8:13 - "When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is about to disappear."
When did He say that there was a New Covenant coming? In Jeremiah. The Old Covenant was made obsolete when Jeremiah was alive, but it did not disappear (cease to be relevant to believers in God) until Jesus came and fulfilled it.
Heb 10:1-10 - "For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the form of those things itself, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually every year, make those who approach perfect. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,
“You have not desired sacrifice and offering,
But You have prepared a body for Me;
6 You have not taken pleasure in whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin.
7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come
(It is written of Me in the scroll of the book)
To do Your will, O God.’”
8 After saying above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), 9 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. 10 By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time."

By His sacrifice on the Cross, Jesus took away the first order (the Old Covenant) to establish the second (New Covenant).
Finally, Gal 4:21-31 gives us a very clear picture from history to depict the reality of the two covenants.
"Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the Law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and one by the free woman. 23 But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise. 24 This is speaking allegorically, for these women are two covenants: one coming from Mount Sinai giving birth to children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. 25 Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is enslaved with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother. 27 For it is written:
“Rejoice, infertile one, you who do not give birth;
Break forth and shout, you who are not in labor;
For the children of the desolate one are more numerous
Than those of the one who has a husband.”
28 And you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 But as at that time the son who was born according to the flesh persecuted the one who was born according to the Spirit, so it is even now. 30 But what does the Scripture say?
Drive out the slave woman and her son,
For the son of the slave woman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman.”
31 So then, brothers and sisters, we are not children of a slave woman, but of the free woman."

The Old Covenant which came from Mt. Sinai is likened to Hagar, the slave mother of the slave son of Abraham who would not be heir.
The New Covenant in Christ is likened to Sarah, the free mother of the free son of Abraham who was heir to the promise.
As we have seen in Gal 3:29 above, those who believe in Christ are heirs to Abraham and the Promise, not those who cling to the Old Covenant.

What does this mean for us today?
Acts 15:8-11 - "And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; 9 and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. 10 Since this is the case, why are you putting God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our forefathers nor we have been able to bear? 11 But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.”"
Peter, speaking here to the other Apostles and leaders in Jerusalem, asks a very pertinent question. Why would the Jews seek to put around the necks of the Gentiles a yolk that they themselves had been able to bear? The Jews were and are saved through the grace of Jesus just as the Gentiles of the first century were and are still today.
So then, it is clear when Paul speaks to the people at Colossi that he is telling them that they are not bound to the Law in what they eat, or what festivals they keep, or to keeping the sabbath.
Col 2:16-17 - "Therefore, no one is to act as your judge in regard to food and drink, or in respect to a festival or a new moon, or a Sabbath day — 17 things which are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ."
Let no one judge you or criticize you about what you eat or drink, or about a festival you keep or don't keep, or about keeping or not keeping the sabbath, because these things are only a shadow of the real thing, and the real thing is Christ.
Matt 5:17-18 - "“Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!""
Jesus came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets (the Old Covenant). What does it mean that He "fulfilled" it?
1. He kept them perfectly
2. He fulfilled the prophecies about the Messiah that would come and save both Israel and the Nations.
3. He satisfied the Covenant with God, finishing all the requirements of the Law and making room for a New Covenant to be established that would accomplish the promise made to Abraham.

Heb 4:1-11 - "Therefore, we must fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also did; but the word they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united with those who listened with faith. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,
As I swore in My anger,
They certainly shall not enter My rest
,”
although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this passage, “They certainly shall not enter My rest.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who previously had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 He again sets a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,
Today if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts
.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11 Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience."

From this passage we see that the Israelites were given the sabbath as a rest, but many did not "enter into My rest". Why? Because of disobedience. But then He sets another day. What day? TODAY! Then verse 10 says that the One (Jesus) who has entered His rest has also rested from His works (salvation). So let us make every effort to enter into His (Jesus') rest.
But from what is it that Jesus is our rest? Jesus is our rest from our efforts to be "good enough" or to keep the Law perfectly. He kept the Law, and He offers us His perfection so that we can rest.
Thus, Jesus is the New Testament sabbath, and TODAY is the day to enter into Him.

@Doug Brents Please quote exactly where it says Jesus is the Sabbath (without your commentary) Nothing in Hebrews 4:1-11 says that- no cherry picking just specifically showing you that we are to rest when God rest and the verse says the SEVENTH DAY God rested. Post the verse that says Jesus is our Sabbath, no commentary. Thanks

Just because you cannot see it, doesn't mean it is not there.
"10 For the One who has entered His rest has Himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11 Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest,...."
...effort to enter that rest.... What rest? The rest of the One who has entered His rest, Jesus.

When does God rest? Read Genesis 2:1-3, Hebrews 4:4 it literally spells it out. You still did not show that Jesus is the Sabbath. The rest Jesus provides does not replace the Sabbath commandment- we enter through obedience not disobedience Hebrews 4:6, Hebrews 4:11 Jesus is not the Sabbath- the rest He provides has been available from the foundation of the world- Old Covenant.

How our view of Yahweh influences our understanding of scripture

I was listening to a orthodox priest talking about how the early Greek Christians saw Yahweh as a loving Father and it wasn’t till Augustine and the pagan influences that Yahweh became a angry God who must be appeased because his creation had rejected his rule. If you see Yahweh as a loving Father who will stop at nothing to redeem his fallen creation even sacrifice himself so as not to lose anyone. If you see Yahweh as that kind of God then you will put greater emphasis on all the verses that UR camp stands on and the verses that seem to not fit you try to figure out what they are saying ( if you translate Olam/Aionios as age enduring then there is no conflict) We ( I am in the UR camp) filter all of scripture through the lens of UR. We see Yahweh as a loving Father and even in his discipline it’s for love to bring his creation back to himself. If you see Yahweh as a angry God who is upset because satan came in and spoiled his plan and now he has to torture forever all those who went against him, but fortunately he can have Jesus come and he can take his wrath out on Jesus instead of man and if you follow Jesus you are covered by the blood he shed and you get to go to heaven. Then you focus on and give greater attention to the eternal torture of people and Gods wrath because we know all should be tortured but fortunately there is way to escape that torture. Then the verses that talk about Jesus being the savior of the world and that Yahweh wants none to be lost must be explained away by adding words or subtracting words to those scriptures so they fit into your view of God. I find it interesting that on this forum the UR camp and the ECT/ conditional immortality all use the same Bible ( different translations) to prove their point. So as I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense that how we see/understand Yahweh influences how we see and read scripture.

Iowa Republicans want to ban SNAP recipients from buying meat, white bread, and American cheese

  • Iowa Republicans proposed a bill that would drastically limit what foods SNAP recipients can buy.
  • People wouldn't be able to buy grocery staples like white bread, American cheese, fresh meat, and more.
  • Critics argue the bill would further burden low-income people who are already food-insecure.
Iowa Republicans are proposing sweeping changes to the state's food assistance program — including banning beneficiaries from buying grocery staples like meat, American cheese, or flour.

A bill co-sponsored by 39 Republican state legislators would limit those getting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to buying food on a more restrictive list from a separate program intended for pregnant women and children.

SNAP recipients wouldn't be able to buy a variety of foods, including white grain bread, buns with added nuts or seeds, white rice, pasta sauce, canned fruits or soups, baked beans, cheese slices, butter, or flour.

They would instead be limited to foods approved for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

The foods people can purchase in the WIC program are much more restrictive than those allowed in SNAP. That's because WIC is designed to complement SNAP, and is meant to provide necessary nutrition specifically for — as the name suggests — pregnant women, new mothers, and infants, according to Michelle Book, the president and CEO of Food Bank of Iowa.

Now Biden's fourth batch of Classified Documents found and questions:

The discovery of a fourth set of classified documents, at the Biden residence in Delaware, has further undermined the White House’s virtual mantra that the president “takes classified documents very seriously.”
Putting aside the repeated movement of highly classified documents over six years, one curious element has emerged in this scandal: the use of private counsel.
But why was a legal team sent in six years after Biden took the documents on leaving as vice president? Were the lawyers specifically selected because they had clearances, an acknowledgment there might be classified material unlawfully housed in the office?
After the fourth batch of documents was discovered this week (the third found in Delaware), Richard Sauber, referred to as the “special counsel to the president,” stressed that he has a clearance. Sauber admits the lawyers who found the first batch at the residence didn’t have clearances but says he found the later documents.

Isaiah 17:1

Well sorry if I am late to the party I have not been paying very good attention to the news. Also apparently I dont have any privledges to post anywhere on this website so I guess I will just post it here. Hopefully somebody will see it and answer my question or maybe I will ask somewhere else because I feel its important. I dont know why I dont have privledges but I am beginning to wonder if this place is the right place for me.

Anyways I saw some pictures of syria on the web and damascus looks pretty terrible, It looks like a bombed out ruin. So do you think that is the isaiah 17-1 prophecy come true? I dont know but I have been waiting my whole life for that prophecy to come true. Dont get me wrong I dont want bad things to happen to the people there but I always was taught that this had to happen before the end times could happen and my Lord was going to return.

So what do you think?
