  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

San Diego area drag queen 'Flamy Grant' tops the iTunes Christian charts

How a San Diego drag queen topped the iTunes Christian music charts

The iTunes Christian music charts were crowned in late July by a historic sight: A drag queen in bubblegum pink Dolly Parton-esque curls and a dressing gown spilling over with chiffon ruffles. Everything, from her heavy eyelashes to her rainbow jewelry and bright blue guitar, insisted she would not be ignored. She beamed under the large capital letters of the album title, “Bible Belt Baby,” and her drag name, Flamy Grant. Both titles insisted that Christianity and drag could — and would — be cradled together.

[The artist who performs as Flamy Grant uses 'they' pronouns.]

Drag, they said, gave them permission to believe in their own goodness.

It was ultimately through doing drag that they decided to stay in the Christian Church.

“I feel like it’s important for some people to take up space in the church when there’s no representation for the thing that you’re doing,” they said.

Flamy Grant — a play on Lovegood’s childhood Christian music hero, Amy Grant — embodied what seemed like a contradiction and gave Lovegood the boldness to declare that it didn’t have to be.

Hello, every one

Hello Christian followers. I believed in Jesus in April this year. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and God in the flesh. I believe that Jesus is the way and the only way, and he is the only one who can give life. The problem is, other than that, I and the Christian faith don't see things the same way. I can tell you about the differences, but I rather wait until you ask about them. I'm from Aden, Yemen. We don't have working Churches, and I don't know any Christians here.

The Old Testament originally does not believe in the existence of the soul.

"
Then the LORD God formed man of
dust from the ground, and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living being.
" (Genesis, 2:7)
It is clear from the verse above that the OT does not consider the existence of the Man's soul. The man was already formed before God breathed into his nostrils. The breath is not a soul; it was what animated the Man, like the washing machine animated by electricity, or like the Frankenstein monster animated by lightning. That explains why Judaism Originally does not believe in the afterlife.

Then why do Christians insist on holding on to such a book?

Is impatience a sin?

1 Corinthians 13:
4a Love is patient, love is kind.
Patience is a virtue.

Is being impatient a sin?

The Bible does not exactly say that impatience is a sin, English Standard Version, Zechariah 11:
8 In one month I [Zechariah] destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.

But impatient feeling can cause you to act in sin, Numbers 21:
4 From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. 5And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.”

Is impatience a sin?

By itself, impatience is a feeling. As such, it is not technically a sin. However, it can cause you to act in sin if you let it lingers.

On the positive side, when one sees suffering, he could sense an urgency, an impatience, to help immediately.

I would define impatience in two senses: feeling and action. As an avoidable physiological feeling, it is not a sin. As a deliberative action, it could be a sin. It is important to distinguish these two senses. For another example, failure to experience romantic love feeling is not a sin, but failure to love in action is.

A verse about money [questions]

I have questions on this verse. Please patiently read to the end, thanks!

Luke 16:9
I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.

I understand the first part of that verse, "make friends" with money. Now it doesn't mean we "buy" worldly friends by giving them expensive gifts, inviting them to exclusive parties. Nope. It means we get ourselves REAL friends by helping the poor, those who could not help themselves or those who could not return the favor. The poor and the weak or helpless.

The 2nd part of the verse is a big mystery to me: so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.

The verse Luke 16:9 comes after the Parable of the Shrewd Manager. Summing up this parable, the shrewd manager will soon lose his job. At the fear of losing his job and becoming homeless, the shrewd manager tried to gain favor from his boss's clients by canceling some of their debts so they may offer him a place to stay or live when he loses his job and his accommodation.

In essence, the shrewd manager tries to win friends by canceling their debts so that if he loses his home from losing his job, one them might give him place to stay instead of becoming homeless.

In Luke 16:9. you make real friends by helping the poor and the helpless/weak until you run out of money or until you lose your means of making money. But the poor will not be giving you eternal dwellings **THEY** will.

Who are **THEY**??

And we can't reach eternal dwellings until we die or at least that's how I think it works.

What gives?? If we lose all our money or lose our job helping the poor we fall dead and reach the "eternal dwellings"??

I've searched elsewhere with Google most popular interpretation says, "when we die" not "when we lose our money or lose our main means of income". They can't see it the way of losing money (influence of the false Prosperity Gospel me thinks). Yet, if I try see the context right after the Parable of the Shrewd Manager, the story about the rich young ruler, and the Greek transliteration, it clearly refers to money going gone, not our lives.

But still doesn't answer my question. If a real Christian loses all their money or lose their means of income + money from helping/saving the poor, are they going to die immediately OR it only means if they die broke, broke from helping the poor, they will be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven? It doesn't mean they will die right after they lose all their money, they may die much much later after they become broke finanically. Is that what it means?? Thanks!

Help with Evangelism through social media -- (what may be some Biblical guidelines?)

Hi! I have been thinking that I would love to help people around me learn about The Truth Jesus speaks of and so, because of the world many of us live in today and so many people being present in social media, I wonder if it would be okay to share what Jesus says and posting it in my social media for others that may be lukewarm or non-believers to possibly consider Him better! My question is, what Biblical guidelines are there to help me feel sure about how I may be able to do it safely, if it can be the case.

Context: What I've been concerned about among many things has been: under what circumstances or what Biblical Guidelines should I consider when sharing the Gospel on social media, if that is okay. To put things into perspective, lately, I've been wondering about many factors in my personal life, one that comes to mind is, how should I dress or present myself when reading The Bible. Lately, I have felt somewhat of guilt in possibly presenting nakedness for The Bible's standards when reading it, such as if I read it wearing shorts. I looked at certain Bible verses regarding clothing and came to the conclusion that it is important. So when I read The Bible, I try to cover my legs and upper body sometimes. I also do this when I pray. I wonder if whenever someone may stumble upon my Instagram story, and it may show a Bible verse, I may be at fault for presenting to the person reading it without them being ready or while they are in a situation where they may not be dressed appropriately, or doing an inappropriate act or maybe they are not in an appropriate mindset regarding Jesus, so I worry I won't be able to see who is behind the screen and on maybe not being considerate enough about their possible ignorance or ignorant reactions because I can't see them and guide them. I worry about possibly being at fault because these people I cannot see and they may not see me, many may not know about Christianity or may also resent it, etc. I wonder if I may be at fault for factors like this while trying to Evangelize through social media. I really wonder what The Bible and Jesus say about a situation like this one.

So...I wonder if I should give like a heads up beforehand like "be watchful of your mindset and appropriate presentation". However, considering people just scroll on stories and posts so fast, giving a heads up like that may not be as helpful for that context. I also want to be approachable and loving about it as well and not make it seem too cold...Should I just post videos instead of other people sharing The Gospel so the loving tone is better received and maybe just cover the post so people can consent to watching it if they click on it while at the same time being advised of showing discretion in a certain way and in an appropriate presentation? (any examples of how to word that would be so helpful! :) Or should I just stick to in-person Evangelism so I can feel more at peace in knowing I'm guiding things a bit more carefully (feeling more control)? I still think social media is where a lot of people are at and thanks to it, I saw videos of people sharing their testimony and sharing The Gospel, which made me put much more effort back into my Faith and recognize Jesus much much better! I thank so much those people (strangers) I didn't have in close proximity (like family or friends), that talked to me through a screen and helped my heart open so so much! I want to know what the Bible may advice regarding this type of situation then. Please let me know, as well as of your personal opinion or feedback!

Thank you for your help!

My conscience is bothering me.

Good afternoon.
For some time I have started to feel that even small things are sins, for example, if I talk to a female user I start to feel like I am sinning (Lust).

It's not only related to lust, I have the same fears when watching youtube (I may support evil content) and when I want to buy something (same as with Youtube).

The Wrong Debate!

The following that I re-post here was emailed to my spiritual family. The message is a series of quotes from writings that I link below by Charles Eisenstein where he argues that the main threat is not "warming per se", but is caused by "the degradation of ecosystems world wide:"

Charles Eisenstein writes:
“We are in fact facing a very serious climate crisis. However the main threat is not warming per se; it is what we might call “climate derangement.” This derangement is caused primarily by the degradation of ecosystems worldwide: the draining of wetlands, the clear-cutting of forests, the tillage and erosion of soil, the decimation of fish, the destruction of habitats for development, the poisoning of air, soil, and water with chemicals, the damming of rivers, the extermination of predators, and so on. Through disruption of the carbon cycle, the water cycle, and more mysterious Gaian processes, these activities degrade the resiliency of the ecosphere, leaving it unable to cope with the additional greenhouse gases emitted through human activity….The problem with the climate debate then is primarily one of misplaced emphasis….” He goes on to say, no matter whether there is global warming or not, “the most urgent priority is to protect and restore soil, water and ecosystems worldwide.”

His point is that we need to focus on all of these eco-systems, and do what we can, locally, each in our own ways.

He also writes:
“What does it matter, when one party disengages because they think there is no problem, and the other disengages because they think there’s no solution.”

Christians blaspheming the Holy Spirit

For many years I have thought that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was either, to use the words "Holy Spirit" as a cuss word, or to deny the Holy Spirit when the Gospel is said to you. But recently, I have been wondering if it was something different that believers could commit.
In Acts 1:8, it says that they Holy Spirit was given so that we would be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
"but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
So, the Holy Spirit was given so that we would fulfil the great commission. So that we would have power, boldness and clarity to share the Good News. Those who have the Holy Spirit, will want to warn as many people as possible of the coming judgment and they will tell others about the great sacrifice that Jesus did on the cross for them. They will say it in boldness and clarity.

If we look at what happened in the upper room when the Holy Spirit first came upon the apostles, they spoke with such clarity that the people from other nations even understood what they were saying. They spoke of the wonderful works of God. So, we who have the Holy Spirit will declare His goodness to as many people as possible.

In Mark 16:15 Jesus tells us to, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation". So, we are to tell as many people as possible. He also said, "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter"
In 2 Peter 3:9 it explains what the will of the Father is. "The Lord....not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance." God wants all to come to repentance and He has given us the Holy Spirit so that we will have power, boldness, and clarity to go out and preach the Good News to as many people as possible.

So, could blasphemy of the Holy Spirit be when we have the Holy Spirit but deny it by not proclaiming the gospel? Even though Jesus has commanded us to go out and preach the Gospel to all creation, there are many who deny the Spirit by saying, “I do not need to go out and warn people because God has not called me to do that.” Are these people are speaking against the Holy Spirit who lives in them. The Spirit was given so that they would be witnesses.
Now let’s look at the verses that specifically talk about denying the Holy Spirit. In Matthew 12:30-32 it says “"The one who is not with Me is against Me; and the one who does not gather with Me scatters. Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come."
In verse 30 it says that if we are not gathering with Him, then we are scattering. So, we need to do as He has commanded and preach the Gospel to all creation. We need to gather.

Now, in James 4:17 it says, “So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, for him it is sin”. We know the right thing we ought to do. We need to warn as many people as possible about their condemnation that they are under. If we don’t, then we are acting in a wrong manner. As Penn Jillette said, “If you know of everlasting life, and you know of everlasting death, how much do you have to hate somebody to not tell them of it?” By not warning the lost we are not fulfilling the second greatest commandment. “Love your neighbour as you love yourself”.

One other verse that is rather interesting is one about those who act cowardly. Many believers will let fear rule them that much, that they will not take the risk and go out and share the Gospel. They make up all sorts of excuses like, “God has not called me to do that”, or “I have not been given the gift of evangelism”, or many other weak reasons. But really, the main reason why they will not go out is because they are fearful. They are scared. And rightfully so. It is a scary thing to go out and warn others. But we must not let this fear rule us. If we do, then we will not obey what Jesus has asked us to do. If we then, profess to be believers and we claim to have the Holy Spirit but will not warn people of the coming judgement, then we are letting fear overcome us and we are denying the Holy Spirit who is in us. So here is the verse that corresponds with those who allow fear to overcome them. Revelation 21:8 “But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

So, my question to you is, are we denying the Holy Spirit in us if we allow fear to rule us? Is this blaspheming the Holy Spirit?

Judge rules in favor of young Montana activists in US climate trial; state constitution guarantees a “clean and healthful environment”

‘Game-changer’: judge rules in favor of young activists in US climate trial

Sixteen young plaintiffs had alleged the Montana state government had violated their right to a healthy environment

The judge who heard the US’s first constitutional climate trial earlier this year has ruled in favor of a group of young plaintiffs who had accused state officials in Montana of violating their right to a healthy environment.

“I’m so speechless right now,” Eva, a plaintiff who was 14 when the suit was filed, said in a statement. “I’m really just excited and elated and thrilled.”

On Monday, Judge Kathy Seeley said that by prohibiting government agencies from considering climate impacts when deciding whether or not to permit energy projects, Montana is contributing to the climate crisis and stopping the state from addressing that crisis. The 103-page order came several weeks after the closely watched trial came to a close on 20 June.

“In a sweeping win for our clients, the Honorable Judge Kathy Seeley declared Montana’s fossil fuel-promoting laws unconstitutional and enjoined their implementation,” she said.

The state, which previously vowed to fight the decision if the plaintiffs won, now has 60 days to decide whether to appeal the decision to the Montana supreme court.

Do sacraments save?

A lot of evangelicals would answer the thread topic with a resounding "NO". But why?

Is it because they are completely committed to the idea that one is saved by faith alone and not by works? Some say that participating in a sacrament is a "work" and they reason from that claim to the conclusion that sacraments - being works - cannot save.

Yet the scriptures tell us this: now you also are saved, in a similar manner, by baptism 1 Peter 3:21 and Jesus tells us "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you." John 6:53

The first passage says that baptism saves us, the second says that eating the flesh of Christ and drinking his blood is necessary to have life.
