  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Most Americans figure Biden was involved in Hunter’s foreign business dealings

More than half of Americans think President Biden was “probably involved” in his son’s business transactions.

A poll conducted by J.L. Partners for DailyMail.com shows that 51% said Mr. Biden was probably involved in Hunter’s dealings. Republicans are likelier to believe the president was involved, with 92% agreeing with the statement, than Democrats at 11%. More than half of independents at 55% believe he was involved.

Missing Toddler Found Sleeping in Woods with Dog as A Pillow After Walking 3 Miles Barefoot

After a frantic four hours of search and rescue, a two-year-old toddler from Michigan was found sleeping in the woods amid sweet dreams, fairy dust, and the two family dogs whom she had “wrapped around her finger.”

Thea Chase was playing barefoot in the yard of her home in rural Faithorn, Michigan, when her uncle instructed her to go inside and put some shoes on.

Her Mother Brooke said she had the instinct to go and check on her and their two dogs, a Rottweiler named Buddy, and an English Springer named Hartley.

It soon became terrifyingly clear that Thea was no longer in the yard, after which Brooke and Thea’s uncle began to shout for her. They searched the woods near at hand to the house for about a quarter of an hour before calling the police and Chase’s husband.

“When we get a call like that, everything else stops,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mark Giannunzio told CNN.

In the rural area, the police put out a call for drones, canine teams, and search and rescue personnel to comb the county, while members of Brooke’s close-knit community in town formed their own search party.

Teacher explains equity, tells students why they can't be treated equally

This elementary school teacher uses a simple lesson to answer her students' questions about why those in the class with disabilities get special treatment to help them overcome their disabilities in the classroom.

Then she (or the article editors) make the huge leap to why society must use "equity" to address social inequities such as in wages.

What she's calling "equity" is what society has always done, to some greater or lesser extent, to greater or lesser effect, with greater or lesser sensitivity, to people with disabilities. At some point in the distant past, someone who broke his leg got recuperative treatment instead of being put out of the camp.

I remember in basic training that guys who were overweight were also given special treatment...they were made to do more running. Guys who were having trouble following directions were given a lot more directions to follow...for more practice. Basic Training provided different treatment to trainees to obtain an immediate equal result: Everyone's graduation from Basic Training.

None of this equates to "There aren't as many women engineers in the company as male engineers, so we must higher every woman engineer that applies until the numbers are equal."

Parents Beware: ‘Paw Patrol’ Spin-Off ‘Rubble & Crew’ Adds LGBTQ Character

‘So the progressive movement which is trying to destroy the American family was immediately ready to take ‘Obergefell’ as its launching pad for a push towards gender activism. And that’s where we find ourselves today …’

The promotional commercials have been running for a new Paw Patrol movie coming out Sept. 29 that many families are considering taking their young ones to. We have been toying with taking our 4-year-old for her first cinema experience. The lovable loyal dogs who protect the city from the zany kitten catastrophe crew have even piqued my interest at times.

But now, before even entering the theater, the lights are dimming on that idea with news of the Paw Patrol spin-off show Rubble and Crew being the latest children’s animated series to add what they dub a “non-binary” character into the program.

Rubble and Crew follows the beloved bulldog Rubble as he and his family work to build a new town called Builder Cove. It debuted earlier this summer, but already, in an attempt to appear “inclusive,” the show has featured what they called a “non-binary person.”

And of course, this news wasn’t shared through a press release about the decision to kowtow to the gender ideologues. It was only when the character’s creator, a gay-rights activist named Lindsay Amer, took to social media to brag about her role as a consultant for the show, cheerleading this new character named River.

I Am Hugh

Hello, everyone. This is long, so consider the brief intro and if you want continue reading more.

Brief Intro
My screen name is I Am Hugh, but my real name is David. You can call me by my full screen name, IAH, Hugh, David, Dave, etc. Whichever you like or catches on. I consider myself a skeptic, but that doesn't imply I'm not a believer. I am a firm believer in Jehovah God, Christ Jesus and the Bible. I also consider myself irreligious inasmuch as I've never and will never be a part of any organized religion. I'm also apolitical, meaning I have no political affiliation, don't vote, or try to otherwise influence legislation or sociopolitical issues. I am no part of the world. I do, however, often have an opinion on temporal topics through my own personal observations. I'm also not nationalistic which I think many believers tend to be. I don't acknowledge divisions created by borders, race, religion, politics, or other social or political issues. My beliefs are more similar to that of the Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs), so, although I'm not a JW, never have been and never will be I agree with many of their Biblical teachings.

Bible Beliefs
I believe the Bible is the uninspired and fallible translation of the inspired and infallible word of Jehovah God. The meaning of the Bible can be summarized as being, after a brief introduction (Genesis 1:1-3:15), all about the vindication of Jehovah God's name through the ransom sacrifice of Christ Jesus.

Forum Participation
This - is a very nice looking forum with some really cool features I've not seen elsewhere. That was apparent immediately. I have posted on forums such as this for a number of years and it's my primary hobby because it allows me a sort of virtual, interactive study accompanied with constructive feedback. The study of religion and especially the Bible is my favorite pastime. Unfortunately, on most forums there is always a great deal of politics and it can become extremely unpleasant. I understand that the subject matter can be intensely personal and heated exchanges are to be expected, but often ideological fixations can be very frustrating. I'm very thick skinned with a really good (and sometimes odd) sense of humor, but the intense clash of world views can create distractions not at all conducive to civil discourse and debate, not least of these distractions are the egocentric. Like everyone else I am naturally inclined to these and try very hard to control them.

I don't know how often or how long I will participate here, but I hope to have a lasting and educational experience.

Discussion Preferences
Normally, being naturally skeptic, I prefer to discuss and debate with unbelievers. There's a few reasons for that; I was raised in an atheist/irreligious family and was myself agnostic/irreligious half of my life. All of my friends and family have usually been unbelieving, I relate to them more than I do religious people, I consider the believer to believe for good reason, whatever that may be, and so informed to whatever extent they feel necessary. Though I prefer discussion over debate the former always becomes the latter and that's fine. However, having done this for some time I'm not as interested in debate for the sake of debate or ideology. I can walk away from a debate without giving it a second thought. It doesn't get to me on an emotional level. I don't have to correct everyone on the internet.

Mission Statement
My intention, my reason for being here, is simple. I want to learn and discuss subjects of interest to me. I don't believe in conversion, or that the purpose of participation in a forum such as this is a service to God or man. I believe that as a follower of Christ my obligation is to inform interested persons according to the accurate knowledge of the Bible so that they can make an informed decision on whether or not to pursue the matter. To plant the seed. The rest is up to the individual and Jehovah. I'm not really here in that capacity. Though I used to think that was a good purpose I no longer think it is realistic. I'm here for learning and discussing.

Personality
Some people find me intelligent, most find me arrogant. Some people find me interesting most people find me weird. The irony is that no one ever finds me because I don't think I am any of those things. I'm not particularly bright, having the intellectual capacity of, say, Winnie the Pooh. I'm not as arrogant as I sound, I'm just confident and concise, I prefer boring - the goal is to live as boring a life as I can. I'm not really weird, I'm just unique in my perspective as a true skeptic (as opposed to naysayer), and an irreligious apolitical one at that. I'm not afraid of controversy but not for the sake of controversy. I think in occidental culture we're dumbed down and taught to be suspicious of intelligence and so people act as if that intelligence is something they want to suppress or they are aggressive towards anyone who doesn't do that. I don't so I may seem more intelligent or arrogant than I am. My grammar is atrocious, if you didn't notice. I don't because, well, how would I? Sometimes I get into arguments with my spellchecker and I often wonder if maybe it's not dumber than I am. But, we all have our burden to bear.

What Are Anglicans Required to Believe for Church Membership?

Hi. I'm quite familiar with Anglican theology, but I have never been a member of an Anglican church. What, exactly, are members (not presbyters or bishops) required to believe to be in good standing? Is it just the Creeds? What about the 39 Articles? I know Anglicanism is a big tent, and I know that in the Episcopal Church the guidelines would be much more lax. I'm more interested in the ACNA and the continuing side of the Anglican movement. Thank you!

What Are You Required to Believe to Become Orthodox?

Hello. I'm curious about Orthodoxy. What are non-Orthodox required to believe/do to become Orthodox? Are there any beliefs outside of the Creeds that are required for someone to become a member and receive the Lord's Supper?

In the Roman Catholic tradition, my understanding is that a person must agree to all Catholic church dogma to be in good standing and receive the Eucharist, in addition to confessing one's sins, being baptized, etc.

Police say they thwarted a planned shooting at a Virginia church by man with grievances against the government

But someone in Maryland had spotted troubling Instagram posts by the man in sunglasses, leading police in three counties to rapidly mobilize and track down and arrest the suspected would-be shooter as he stood in the vestibule during the Park Valley service with a loaded pistol, extra ammunition and two folding knives.

When officers spoke to Rui Jiang, 35, he allegedly admitted he had written the threatening posts on Instagram, which included a photo of him holding a firearm target with bullet holes and captions. And according to court records, he had written: “Blood will be on your hands. The world will know my story. And what you did to me. And why I’m about to do what I do.”

[After a search of his apartment] they found “a very detailed one-page manifesto,” Fairfax Police Chief Kevin Davis said. It “systematically and logically identifies his grievance with the government, identifies his intent to harm and kill, and identifies his own desire to end his life. It was eerie.”

Davis said there were references related to “why he selected that church, but he also articulated that he didn’t know anyone at that church. … He knew he was going to take many lives yesterday, and he also said that [he didn’t] know any of them.” Davis said there was no indication that Jiang was connected to any groups or terrorist organizations.

Do Not Let Yourselves Be Deceived

Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

1. What is God’s grace to us?
2. What is faith? What does faith look like in our lives?
3. What is the gift of God?
4. What is this teaching us about works?

I believe that verses 8-9 here are some of the most misquoted and misunderstood passages of Scripture in the Bible. And many people are using these verses out of context to excuse away their sinful lifestyles and to convince themselves that they don’t have to repent of their sins, and that they don’t have to obey God, and that no works are required of them, and that they don’t have to do anything at all to be pleasing to God.

But go back and read all the verses prior to these verses, and then read verse 10, also, which I have quoted here along with verses 8-9. For, in context, it speaks of how those of genuine faith in Jesus Christ are those who once (past tense) walked in sin, and who once (past tense) followed the course (way) of this world, and once (past tense) followed the ways of the devil in the passions of the flesh and in walks of disobedience to the Lord.

So, what is God’s grace to us? It is not freedom to keep living in sin. For, God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, instructs (trains) us to renounce (say “NO” to) ungodliness and fleshly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return. For Jesus Christ gave himself up for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works (see Titus 2:11-14; cf. Ephesians 2:10).

For Jesus died on that cross that we might die to sin and live to righteousness and that we might live for him and no longer for ourselves. He shed his blood for us on that cross to buy us back for God (to redeem us) out of our lives of living in sin so that we would now honor him with our lives. For by faith in him we are crucified with Christ in death to sin, and we are raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, no longer as slaves to sin, but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness. This IS GRACE!

[1 Peter 2:24; 2 Corinthians 5:15; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 6:1-23]

And what is faith? It is divine persuasion, the persuasion of God as to his holiness and righteousness and of our sinfulness and of our need to repent of our sins and to follow him in obedience. And it comes from God and it is gifted to us by God, and it is not of our own doing, not of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of the will of God according to his purposes for our lives. So we don’t get to decide what that faith looks like. God does.

[Hebrews 12:1-2; Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12-13; John 6:44]

So, how is our faith described in Romans 6:1-23? We were crucified and buried with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer as slaves to sin but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness. Therefore we are to let sin no longer reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its passions. For if sin is what we obey, it leads to death. But if obedience is what we obey, it leads to righteousness and to sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God.

So, what is God’s gift to us? It is all of the above and more. Everything we have that is good and upright and holy and godly comes from God and not from ourselves – our faith to believe in him, his grace to us, his love, his forgiveness, our deliverance from slavery to sin, the empowerment of God to live godly and holy lives to the praise and glory of God, etc. But when we receive the gift, we put it into practice in our daily lives, in the power of God.

And what is this teaching us about works? It is good for you to do a study in the Scriptures on that subject for works are mentioned in three different ways, two of which come from the same source. There are the works of the flesh which come from our sin natures and these can be sinful practices and they can be “good deeds” done in the flesh to try to gain God’s approval while we continue living in sin, which is what the Pharisees did.

But then there are the good works that God requires of his followers, i.e. of all those of genuine faith in him, which he prepared in advance that we should walk in them and which we are to pursue and to put into practice and be zealous for. And these are listed for us all throughout the New Testament to include walks of obedience to him, the forsaking of our sinful practices, loving others with the love of God, and living holy lives pleasing to him.

[Jn 15:1-11; Rom 8:8; 1 Co 15:58; 2 Co 5:9; 2 Co 9:8; Gal 5:6; Gal 6:8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 5:10; Php 2:12-13; Col 1:9-14; 1 Thes 2:4; 1 Thes 4:1; 2 Thess 1:11-12; 2 Tim. 2:4,21; Tit 2:11-14; Tit 3:8; Heb 11:6; Heb 13:6; Jas 2:17; 1 Jn 3:22]

So, if anyone is telling you that you can believe in Jesus Christ, have all your sins forgiven (past, present, and future), be on your way to heaven, and that nothing can take that away from you, regardless of how you live, he is lying to you. And if he is telling you that God requires nothing of you other than to “believe,” which they rarely define biblically, he is lying to you. And if he tells you that no works are required of you and that you don’t have to do anything to be pleasing to God, he is lying to you. Do not believe him!

Instead, read the Scriptures for yourselves, but please read them in context. For the Scriptures make it real clear that if we live in sin, and if sin is our practice, and if righteousness and obedience to our Lord are not what we practice, we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of what our lips have professed. For not everyone who says to Jesus, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one DOING the will of God the Father.

[Matt 7:21-23; Matt 24:9-14; Lu 9:23-26; Rom 1:18-32; Rom 2:6-8; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-14,24; Rom 12:1-2; Rom 13:11; 1 Co 6:9-10,19-20; 2 Co 5:10,15,21; 1 Co 1:18; 1 Co 15:1-2; 2 Tim 1:8-9; Heb 9:28; 1 Pet 1:5; Gal 5:16-21; Gal 6:7-8; Eph 2:8-10; Eph 4:17-32; Eph 5:3-6; Col 1:21-23; Col 3:5-17; 1 Pet 2:24; Tit 2:11-14; 1 Jn 1:5-9; 1 Jn 2:3-6,24-25; 1 Jn 3:4-10; Heb 3:6,14-15; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2; Rev 21:8,27; Rev 22:14-15]

For Our Nation

An Original Work / September 11, 2012

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

A normal confusion about what god is

The normal confusion, is that, when you go through challenges in life, you start to feel the prescence, of a god. Then, perhaps you have a spiritual experience with god. Then, later, you realise that the god was you after all, so you tell people that god is yourself, and you lie about the spirtiual experiences because you want to believe, when it was just you trying to see something, so your mind made it real. We have to have this out of the way first to believe I think, what do you think?

A Brief Look at Yom Kippur (Leviticus 16:1-32)

YOM KIPPUR (Leviticus 16:1-32)

This year Yom Kippur, started September 24 (Sunday) and ended September 25 (Monday evening). On The Hebrew calendar, it is always on the 10th day of the Hebrew month of Tishrei. It is a time of fasting and prayer, a time of getting right with God again, and with our family, and neighbors, those around us, it is the holiest time of year.

The Hebraic belief was that on Yom Kippur, God's books were closed and those whose names were written in the "Book of Life" were "safe". Those whose names were NOT written would have to wait until next Yom Kippur. Yom Teruah, the day of Trumpet sounding was a reminder and a wake-up call, to start getting right with God, because on Yom Kippur, the destiny of each person would be "signed and sealed" sort of.

Yet, as believers, we know that the mercy of God is always there. His "book of Life" is open 24-7 to whoever would repent and accept Jesus/Yeshua as LORD and Savior. As long as the breath of life is within us, as long as our hearts beat, we still have a chance.

Yom Kippur was the time when the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies, in the Tabernacle, and in the Temple, Only once a year could he do this, and offered a bull for himself and for his family, for the atonement of their sins, a bull represented strength, and the ancient symbol of God was shown by the outline of a bull's head with horns, that was the ancient Hebrew letter "alef"

He also took two goats. One he would sacrifice, and, like with the bull, sprinkle the blood on the altar and on the covering of the Ark of the Covenant (Ha Aron Ha Kodesh) and on the altar, and the other, he would place his hands on its head and symbolically placed all of the sins of Israel, on that goat, then let it go into the wilderness, never to return.

These spoke of two things, Messiah Yeshua paid our price in full on Calvary, by His one-time sacrifice and atonement, of His own blood, and our sins were "cast into the sea, never to return" and "as far as the East is from the West, so our sins are separated from us" never to meet.

But the Yom Kippur (Yom Ha Kippurim) "Day of Coverings" had to go on year after year, and so, sins were only "covered" for one year at a time, but when Messiah Yeshua took our sins to himself on Calvary, our sins were paid for and atoned once and forever, so, his one-time-only sacrifice was good for all time. Even the Apostle Paul said that we are "under a better covenant" which is based on the blood of Yeshua and not on the blood of animals.

In the Tabernacle and Temple times, a red cord was tied on the horns of the "scapegoat." When the scapegoat was taken to a cliff and pushed over so it would die, the scarlet cord turned white, stating that God accepted the sacrifice. However, 40 years before the destruction of the temple by the Roman Emperor Titus in 70 C.E. that cord stopped turning white, it stayed red. This indicated that the sacrifice was no longer valid. The only "valid" sacrifice was that of YESHUA, who was the "sacrifice Lamb" once and forever.

God has reached down to you through YESHUA, have you reached up to him?

"Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

New bank subpoena shows Hunter received money from Beijing during Joe's campaign

The revelation is another blow to President Biden’s insistence that he had no knowledge or discussion of his only surviving son’s foreign business interests.
“Bank records don’t lie but President Joe Biden does. In 2020, Joe Biden told Americans that his family never received money from China,” Comer said in a statement.
Joe needs to address his previous claim about his family never receiving money from China. The American people deserve the truth.

Why has Christianity failed in America?

I can't stop thinking about the moral decline America has gone through since World War II, and how the church may be responsible at least in part for it. America was founded as a deeply religious country, and somehow we (the church) have allowed a pretty devout country (at least in its founding) over 250 years, to become perhaps the most degenerate society since the classical Greek and Roman cultures.

I do think that any country which experiences the sort of economic blessings and upward mobility that America has given people for the last 70 years is going to become decadent. In that, I don't think it's a uniquely American thing. We are the most prosperous country in the history of mankind when you consider the opportunities that people have had, both native born people and people who have come here, have experienced.

Perhaps Christians in America are not so bad in that any nation which experiences our kind of prosperity will naturally become materialistic and worldly, and will probably subvert evangelization and witnessing to others about Christ to more immediate economic concerns, opportunities, and increased avenues for pleasure, which our media system has certainly given us. Additionally, the fact that evangelicals in particular, who form a great percentage of the church as it is portrayed in American popular culture, always seem like they want to fit in and be "relatable" to unbelievers in their messaging (I'm talking about churches and ministries, not necessarily the people who attend those churches) in order to win them explains why those same religions are rejected by most people.

I also don't think people see enough light shining from us as a whole. If people want a religion, which very often they don't in America (for the very same reasons that Christians become lukewarm) they want one that clearly is producing fruit in the lives of those who adhere to it.

I don't think that the Christian faith does well in times of prosperity. In ancient days, Rome was corrupt, and the Christians brought salt and light into it, whereas the exact reverse has occurred in America in the last 70 years or so. This seems to correspond almost perfectly with the rise of America as a world superpower following World War I and the industrial revolution before that, notwithstanding the Great Depression. I know there was slavery before all of that and it's not like America was ever a Christian utopia, but it wasn't as degenerate as now. What is concerning is that AI can end up turning even more people away from God, as they can try to become their own digital gods.

One could argue that it was the industrial revolution and the increased opportunity for wealth and pleasure that compromised the church, especially after World War II, coupled with the vapid nature of modern evangelical religion and public indifference and mistrust towards traditional (in this case, Catholic) religion that explains why America is such a profoundly declining and irreligious nation.

It seems like unbelieving America has rejected evangelical Protestantism because it sees no fruit, because it is in love with sin and with the devil (there are so many opportunities in America to worship the devil and his fruits), there's not enough contrast between evangelical religion and the world, and Catholicism is not a viable alternative to many unchurched people because having a religion that is perceived as restrictive, formal, and rigid is the last thing they are wanting. I mean, if Protestant evangelical preaching was compelling at all, I think droves of people would sign up, because having a "personal" religion ("relationship") with God apart from any membership to a church is about as appealing a concept as an American would be willing to accept.

I would like to get opinions from those who have tracked with this post (sorry!) on whether the church's failure in America in the last 70 years is due to economics, spirituality, both, or factors I am not taking into account?

I personally believe that there's only two religions that have the power to stop the tide of evil in America currently. One is Eastern Orthodoxy and the other is Islam. My first reason for thinking that is the counties where these religions are practiced by the majority of people are not suffering the same problems as the U.S. I don't see the same culture in Romania, Iraq, Russia, the Baltic countries, or Saudi Arabia that I see in America. That has to say either that the religions are more reverent, which stems the tide of evil, or that those countries are simply better off morally because they haven't been exposed to so much wealth. Maybe both.

The second reason I believe that only Eastern Orthodoxy or Islam can stem the tide of evil in America is because I know firsthand that these religions are highly reverent towards God, whether or not you believe in their specific tenets. There is no question when you enter a mosque or a divine liturgy that there is a great sense of reverence towards God and the things of God, and that is precisely the thing that would be needed to change the spiritual landscape in America. Add to that that I think evangelical and Catholic religion are simply too familiar to most unbelievers. All of them know evangelicals and Catholics personally and not enough of them know that we are different enough from them to actually offer them anything they don't already have through their worship of wealth and opportunity.

Personally, I think unbelievers in America would need to be exposed to something totally different in order to change. One thing you can say about Eastern Orthodoxy and Islam is that the way they dress and the way they gesture and the way they live are things that can be tangibly observed, noticed, and appreciated, even if one doesn't agree. When you look at these groups, you can tell that their faith is something that actually impacts their day to day lives. Maybe that is the religion, even beyond Orthodoxy or Islam, that America needs.

That being said, I have no plans to convert to Islam, but I appreciate the sincerity of their faith and devotion. I am looking into Orthodoxy!

I'd appreciate any prayers for my recovery, so far symptoms are mild just a dry cough, body aches, a headache, with the only really significant symptom being a fever over 101 but I have been able to get it down to 99.5 degrees, but sometimes I have transient feelings of weakness/lethargy too.

Supreme Court rejects Alabama’s attempt to avoid creating a second Black majority congressional district

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected an emergency bid from Alabama, setting the stage for a new congressional map likely to include a second Black majority district to account for the state’s 27% Black population.
The one-line order reflects that the feelings on the court haven’t changed since June when a 5-4 Supreme Court affirmed a lower court that had ordered the state to redraw its seven-seat congressional map to include a second majority-Black district or “something quite close to it.”
The justices’ action will have immediate consequences in Alabama and perhaps nationwide in the 2024 elections. There are currently six Republicans and one Democratic member of Congress from Alabama, but the changing makeup of the districts is likely to mean the state will pick up a new Democratic member of Congress.

Taylor Swift’s Popularity Is A Sign Of Societal Decline

^_^

"Audiences and elite tastemakers alike have decided Taylor Swift’s narcissistic lyrics and cliched music are a cultural triumph — but why would we celebrate this?"

^_^

After the last 8 years of unrelenting narcissism, it is Taylor Swift's narcissism which which is leading to societal decline! The deflection is strong...

New York judge finds Donald Trump liable for fraud

Engoron granted Attorney General Letitia James’ motion for summary judgment, finding Trump, his sons, and others “to be liable as a matter of law for persistent violations” of New York state law.

In the order, the judge rejected Trump’s deposition testimony in which the former president said that the financial statements were not fraudulent because they contained disclaimers. Trump said the statements contained a “worthless clause” in them warning lenders and others that they shouldn’t be relied on.

Tuesday, the judge said that “the defendants’ reliance on these ‘worthless’ disclaimers is worthless.”

Trump is found liable for fraud in New York civil case

NEW YORK, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Donald Trump and his family business were found liable for fraud on Tuesday by a New York judge in state Attorney General Letitia James' civil lawsuit accusing the former U.S. president of illegally inflating his assets and net worth.

The decision by Justice Arthur Engoron of the New York state court in Manhattan is a near total defeat for Trump, and limits the scope of a scheduled Oct. 2 trial largely to how much the defendants should pay in damages.

Engoron also ordered the cancellation of business certificates for the Trump Organization and other corporate defendants, and sanctioned Trump's lawyers for contributing to their clients' "obstreperous" conduct and making "preposterous" legal arguments during the case.

Lawyers for Trump and the other defendants did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

James sued Trump in Sept. 2022, accusing him, his adult children and the Trump Organization of lying for a decade about asset values and his net worth to get better terms on bank loans and insurance.

The attorney general has said Trump inflated his net worth by as much as $2.23 billion, and by one measure as much as $3.6 billion, on annual financial statements given to banks and insurers.

James has said assets whose values were inflated included Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, his penthouse apartment in Manhattan's Trump Tower, and various office buildings and golf courses.

Engoron said James had established liability for false valuations of several properties, including Mar-a-Lago and the penthouse.

The judge also chided Trump for offering defenses in a deposition that were "wholly without basis in law or fact."

"He claims that if the values of the property have gone up in the years since the (financial statements) were submitted, then the numbers were not inflated at that time," Engoron wrote.

"He also seems to imply that the numbers cannot be inflated because he could find a 'buyer from Saudi Arabia' to pay any price he suggests."

Judge rules Donald Trump defrauded banks, insurers as he built real estate empire

from AP

Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling Tuesday in a civil lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney general, found that the former president and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing.

This is new this afternoon so there is more to understand about the decision. There are still things to be addressed in a non-jury trial starting Oct. 2.
