If a man says he is a prophet, you can pretty much take it to the bank that he isn't - at least not a prophet of the God of Israel.
Yedida, I truly do appreciate your chutzpah to jump in there into conversations even with people like me who you know are on a somewhat different page on many topics than you are. "For Better or For Best" by Dr. Gary Smalley is brilliantly written....personally....I believe that the three weeks of some form of fasting that he did when he wrote it along with a co-author.....gave him at least some sort of level of "prophecy!"
Numbers 11:29
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, [and] that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
The fact that Dr. Smalley fasted with water and/or juice (if I remember correctly) during a large part of the three weeks when he wrote that book....showed chutzpah in approaching G-d with another level of boldness. Dr. Smalley writes about praying about major questions and not making a decision until he feels "the peace of God" toward a decision! This is a level of "prophecy" that to me seems available to any Christian who will show the chutzpah and self control to do at least some minimal form of "fasting!"
