If a man says he is a prophet, you can pretty much take it to the bank that he isn't - at least not a prophet of the God of Israel.

Yedida, I truly do appreciate your chutzpah to jump in there into conversations even with people like me who you know are on a somewhat different page on many topics than you are. "For Better or For Best" by Dr. Gary Smalley is brilliantly written....personally....I believe that the three weeks of some form of fasting that he did when he wrote it along with a co-author.....gave him at least some sort of level of "prophecy!"

Numbers 11:29
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, [and] that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

The fact that Dr. Smalley fasted with water and/or juice (if I remember correctly) during a large part of the three weeks when he wrote that book....showed chutzpah in approaching G-d with another level of boldness. Dr. Smalley writes about praying about major questions and not making a decision until he feels "the peace of God" toward a decision! This is a level of "prophecy" that to me seems available to any Christian who will show the chutzpah and self control to do at least some minimal form of "fasting!"

Well Yedida, I believe we are close to the time period when the MOST FEEBLE Jew, will be stronger than King David, who was certainly a prophet based on the obvious level of prophecy displayed in the Psalms!

Zechariah 12:8

True, we aren't quite there yet....but we may well be closer than we imagine!

Now another thing is that I am biased toward the Catholic Bible being an inspired book that we stole from the Jewish people. It may not be quite as good as the 66 books of the Protestant Bible.....but it is certainly in that league and surely the words of Baruch the friend of Jeremiah would have at least some value for Protestants.

(Baruch 6:6, Douay Rheims Version of Catholic Bible)

It does seem logical that the Word/Logos would make something of a covenant with all humans to at the minimum do a review of our lives....and judge us.....based on some sort of criteria??!!

I am of the opinion that the question something to the effect of "What did you do with your life that you can show me" that so many people who have a brush with death report....could well be what Jeremiah's servant Baruch was referring to????!!!

After all...Elisha the servant of Elijah may have been trained how to do an out of the body experience that would give him insider information regarding the actions of the King of Syria????!!!

Just a theory!!

Moses/Moshe wanted ALL THE PEOPLE OF G-D TO BE PROPHETS.....The Pharisees wish to nail down the age of prophecy to a specific time period and no other....who is more likely to have their will done....Moses/Moshe....or the Pharisees????

The above had absolutely nothing to do with a man claiming he is a prophet, which is what my post pertained to.

The gift of prophecy....is not either zero percent or one hundred percent....there is a continuum. One hundred percent of us are somewhere on that continuum...... Balaam had a prophetic gift...but his greed and other character flaws prevented him from writing more of the Bible than the brilliant few paragraphs that he did contribute!

Pray about it and ask God to show you if there really is some relevance in my reply. God will answer you.....He really will!!!!

The ceremony of the High Priest on Yom Kippur is detailed in Leviticus 16. The primary purpose of this ceremony is to bring atonement for the entire nation of Israel for their sins committed during the previous year.

Leviticus 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the Lord.

Well....Visionary....over the next five centuries I believe that God will have specifically answered over eighty percent of your prayer requests of the past five years....with a Yes!!!!

Frankly God might just get up to 98% percent of your prayers so while you pray are you temporarily in a prophetic state of some sort????

Even your prayers for the salvation of your temporarily lost loved ones.....if I have not misunderstood some of the evidence that strongly indicates that time branches you may be amazed how many of your temporarily lost loved ones are led back..even if not within our branch of time??!! There is evidence that strongly suggests that Ezekiel 37 rather than being a one time only event actually occurs again and again and again.....

I am sure you also had times when you knew that you knew that you knew that what you had just prayed for was on the way.....even if delayed for 21 days or so such as occurred when the Prince of Persia attempted to prevent Gabriel from answering the prayers of the Prophet Daniel!

True....and when the house of Israel get to the place where the most feeble resident of Jerusalem is stronger than King David then we will know that Yom Kippur has been fulfilled at a level that we have not seen at any time in the past!

King David, in my opinion, was on a higher level of contact with God than the Prophet Nathan was!

Zechariah 12:8 "In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David [shall be] as God, as the angel of the LORD before them."

We are going into an era when the most feeble inhabitant of Jerusalem will be gifted like David so as we enter that time period we can rest assured that more and more people will be given astonishing gifts that will cause the outpouring of the first century to seem anemic in comparison!

Actually.....if what I have read that could be evidence that Ezekiel 37 happens again and again and again and again is from God....then your prayers from this branch of time could even affect another version of you that exists in another branch of time that is only perhaps ten years old at this time!?

This is a strange idea but if God is indeed the most emotional being in the universe....as I began to suspect back in 1990.....then what type of drastic measure might this Being take to accomplish what He actually wants to happen???

http://www.christianforums.com/t7695357/
Could God be the most emotional being in the universe????

This would seem to correspond with the Creator actually having thought up and choreographed an infinite number of Big Bang Events over infinite time in the past as some physicists seem to believe has been the case!

Investing infinite time in the creation....would certainly tend to give the Creator a greater emotional attachment to all of us than we can begin to imagine...considering how young we are.

“When My Father moves His little finger, the whole universe trembles. To shake the nations with words does not impress anyone who dwells here. But when even the least of My brethren on earth shows love, it brings joy to My Father’s heart. When even the most humble church sings to My Father with true love in their hearts, He silences all of heaven to listen to them. He knows that one cannot help but to worship when they are beholding His glory here, but when those who are living in such darkness and difficulty sing with true hearts to Him, it touches Him more than all of the myriads of heaven can." Oy vey! If God is that emotional, then we're in big trouble! Emotion is linked to the "heart" which is the most wicked of things. An overly emotional God is definitely not good news.

My point is that claiming the position or title of prophet takes on a bigger task than personal communication with Him. It is taking on the responsibility of nations spiritual conditions and acting as God's ambassador.

True....but even an ordinary person can hit a level of consciousness at least once or twice in a lifetime where they are given a dream or vision of some sort that has off the scale value that is playing around in the league of "prophecy."

Revelation 19:10 "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

When some sincere believer attempts to nail down the Word of God to one level of meaning that fits with what they learned in Sunday School when they were a child.....that isn't even close to what Rabbi Jesus/Yehoshua actually intended...they are playing with fire. So....is the testimony of Jesus the Spirit of prophecy....or not????

What about this woman from Edmonton....is it possible that her praying and worshipping and supplicating to God resulted in her being given a valid prophecy for the near future????

http://www.christianforums.com/t7647344/
A word for those ministering to Moslems!

Over these past 11 years my gifted Pentecostal wife has introduced me to a world that I had zero comprehension of in the past. I am wide open to this message given to a woman from Edmonton being a genuine message from God to all of us:

Mary A Burris:
"February 6, 2009

While spending time with the Lord He reminded me of Ali's funeral (Ali was my first husband who was murdered in 94/95) and how the Holy Spirit had me praying in tongues and in travail for the muslim people's salvation in Christ Jesus.

He assured me that He heard my prayer that day. Suddenly I became very excited in my spirit and asked the Holy Spirit

"What's going on?"

This is what He said:

You'll see... It'll be explosive when it happens. They will flock towards salvation as the hardness is lifted off of their hearts and the scales are removed from their eyes. They are a passionate people but their purpose has not yet been served. Upon the fulfillment of their role in the history of mankind there will be a flood of souls pouring into the kingdom of God for His glory. They have been scorned, they have been accused, but the ones who are pure in heart shall see God. When He reveals Himself to them in all His glory they will prostrate themselves before Him in a way they have never done before. When He opens the eyes of their understanding and unstops their ears to hear what His Holy Spirit is revealing the waves of tears of repentance will flood the ground they occupy and they will be purged once and for all time of the stains of their unbelief. The Lord is calling out for a pure and holy nation before God and He will do as He chooses and choose as He pleases and mankind will truly stand in awe of His mighty Majesty and Splendor as the precious souls are ushered into His kingdom.

GIVE HIM PRAISE AND GLORY!

I really don't see that recognizing Mrs. Burris word as being genuinely prophetic means that she has to remain in a prophetic state of mind 24/7/365 for the rest of her life!!!!!!

Even Elisha asked for a minstrel to play in order to stir up the gift!!!!!

Possibly.....even King David ordered a census for far less than perfect reasons......

But....wouldn't the murder of somebody's husband in '94/'95 tend to inspire them to pray with a little extra chutzpah/energy regarding a particular subject????

That little "prophecy" is no different from what you can get in any city's "prophetic houses." You know what I mean. Every city has at least one little house that claims to have a palm reader, tarot card reader, prophet, etc.
Their prophecies are all so vague and ambiguous that they can cover anything and will eventually come to pass. Don't be blown away by these winds that tickle your ears. They're everywhere and they're dangerous.

It is not the method, it is the result... There is no doubt God communicates with man. .. what is doubtful is in this case... it didn't bring them further into the walk.. but kept them to focus on the "gift" itself like it is the end all be all.

Yep, Sid probably already knew that tongue. He's in it for the money dear heart. Tongues are for the unbeliever and have no business with believers, serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Hashem is not a waster of time and resources.
