The fire is devouring a physical body. There is also the judgement of unbelievers at the great white thrown who are found not written in the book of life, that are thrown into the lake of fire.

Why would he speak of hell and the lake of fire. Are you questioning God's word? Or just the part you don't like?

I believe the LOF is the second death, Christ's own words. I don't spin that into eternal life in hell. I believe it's eternal destruction. Both death and hell are cast into the Lake of Fire and then we will get the new heavens and earth and the former things are passed away.

Even one of the most quoted verses of all time clearly tells us what will happen.

John 3:16

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

There really is no way to exonerate Damnationism.

The CEO of a multibillion dollar oil and gas company (CHK) learned he had been indicted by a Federal grand jury after rigging bids for oil and gas leases to get them at lower prices. About the same time the price of oil was down as there was a glut of oil in storage. The man drove his car into a bridge abutment. He died in the crash. God chose not to save him. God did not force him to swindle people. Love of money causes loss of salvation.

I do not believe God set up eternal torture chambers. There is suffering enough on earth for those who make unwise decisions. There are accidents and injury lawyers to take away a person’s assets, falls, divorce, war, paralysis, amputations, infection, disease, cancer, blindness, poverty, starvation, strokes, heart attacks and pain. Whether a person can turn back from sinful behavior remains to be seen. John the Baptist taught repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Right before it mentions the lake of fire being the second death in revelation 21, it talks about the old world disappearing and death, pain and sorrow are gone forever.

God sent Jonah there for 3 days and night, he even sent Jesus there for the same time. The ones He sends to hell are there because they believed a lie that was a prophecy, the ones sent there are destined to be there. Like the people alive, their eyes are open. What they witness is what fallen angels do on their last day of life.

The ones sent to hell is the 2nd group in Re:7 as hell is known as 'great tribulation' in Scripture. They appear to be saved in those verses.

Robert Young who "wrote" the YLT was self-taught in Hebrew and Greek. Would you go to a doctor who was self-taught? I wouldn't. The Young's Literal Translation is called "literal' by the author not by any body of learned scholars. Caveat emptor.
