That's probably correct. Some who were there apparently did nothing but instead left when told to do so by the guards.Donald Trump has defended some of his supporters who rioted at the US Capitol on 6 January, saying they posed “zero threat” to the lawmakers who had assembled there to certify the electoral college vote that confirmed Joe Biden’s election victory.
“Some of them went in and they’re, they’re hugging and kissing the police and the guards. You know, they had great relationships. A lot of the people were waved in and then they walked in and they walked out.”
The Guardian piece is well written and does not incorrectly portray Trump as defending the storming of the capitol. The OP Headline however is clearly incorrectly doing that . It does not represent what the article actually says.
Trump's claim is that the rioters in Washington are being targeted and treated differently by the authorities than other rioters have been and that they (or perhaps only some of them. This is unclear) posed no real threat the Legislators. He is not quoted as defending the riots. One may dispute his claim but proclaiming that he is saying something entirely different is not factual.
The following subhead below in the article is in direct contradiction of the idea that Trump is defending the "storming of the capitol. ".
"Former president says rioters ‘shouldn’t have done it’" .
I will include the definition of "some" for those that seem confused in thinking that it means the same as "all"
PRONOUN
- an unspecified number or amount of people or things.
"here are some of our suggestions" ·
[more]- at least a small amount or number of people or things.
I think that's the guy who tasered his genitals while trying to steal a painting. His taser.Kevin Greeson - died of a heart attack outside the Capitol building during the riot. He had a history of high blood pressure. His wife said he was not there to participate in violence.
My comment is about as relevant as Trump right now.Your comment is relevant because?
Does Trump?Do you realize that Trump isn't president anymore?
That's hilarious. Sounds like a good candidate for the Darwin award; but Greeson died outside the building. Perhaps one could make the case that the general turmoil prevented his getting medical help fast enough.I think that's the guy who tasered his genitals while trying to steal a painting. His taser.
But sure, not to participate in violence. Just came with a taser in case he needed to....tase his genitals I guess. I've never stolen a painting from the Capitol and I don't know what procedures it entails.
Does the op?Does Trump?
You should check on that. Regardless of what Trump said, there was threat in actual reality, and even though Trump didn't say to 'hang Mike Pence ' or such, some were chanting that, and some searched for Pence.there were zero threats to the lawmaker
Sorry? To be clear, the death threats against law makers were NOT threats? And Trumps words are getting twisted in what way?How many of those 5 deaths were the lawmakers that Trump made clear were the ones not threatened?
I see we are still twisting Trumps words.
I tend to agree. Threat is in the perception of the person being threatened. So if AOC says she felt threatened even if she wasn't in the Capitol building at that time, I believe her. But I think the issue is that they were not threatened by Trump; but by the rioters. So you can only blame Trump if you can prove that he directly incited the riot. Most of the current investigation is about individuals who were there and threatening in actuality and trying to determine motive and coordination. I am not sure if there has been a serious attempt to show a direct line from Trump to any of the individual rioters. I don't count the impeachment as anything but political theater. You should check on that. Technically I tihnk you're twisting his words Goldenboy. Did he clearly indicate it was his supporters? I didn't get that impression....At least we’re now in agreement these were definitely Trump supporters that breached the Capitol. I consider that progress from 2 months ago. Now if only Trump would grow up and take some credit for the insurrection he caused we can all move on from this episode.
Yes, apparently many arrested rioters -- now to be defendants in court cases -- are specifically saying they were doing what they believed Trump wanted them to do, as a main part of their legal defense in court.I tend to agree. Yeah, you might call that the "God told me to do this" defense. Unfortunately, you could pull stuff out of the Bible to try to prove this; but there is a lot more in there that tends to say you shouldn't commit acts of violence. Ultimately you either have to say the person is insane for believing this or show direct proof that God did actually speak to them and told them unequivocally to do this. Even then, that only lessens culpability.Yes, apparently many arrested rioters -- now to be defendants in court cases -- are specifically saying they were doing what they believed Trump wanted them to do, as a main part of their legal defense in court.
